Brazilian Has Heard Nothing Of Potential Newcastle Move

11:52 pm, Friday, August 3rd, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 68 Comments

We haven’t heard much about the proposed Newcastle move for Douglas this week, other than the Tyneside club were supposed to bid around £4M for the big Brazilian center-back last week, if reports are to be believed.

Douglas – has heard nothing from Newcastle

But earlier today, Douglas told Eredivisie Live that his future is still undecided, and he could still stay in Holland for another year, and see out his contract at the Dutch club:

“It’s still not sure that I will stay but I am very happy here and basically I will stay another year.”   “I will focus on FC Twente. Nobody knows anything of Newcastle United.”  I have not heard anything, nor have the club.”

Douglas has said many things in the summer, and some of his quotes include that he definitely wants to move on to a Premier League club, and then this quote is not the first time he’s said he’s thinking of staying at FC Twente until next summer.

But since Douglas has to remain resident in Holland until late August, to meet the FIFA requirements to play for Holland, maybe Newcastle will make their move for the player at that time.

There’s nothing to say that Newcastle cannot sign him now, and then have him move over to Newcastle, after he has seen out his residency requirements in Holland.

Douglas is hoping to be able to play for the full Dutch side soon, and with the residency requirements completed, he will qualify for a Dutch passport and be eligible to play for the National side.

But if  the 6’4″ Brazilian does decide to stay in Holland and see out the final year in his contract, the local papers on Tyneside are suggesting that Newcastle would remain interested in the player,  and could sign him for a small fee in January.

If that isn’t possible,  Newcastle could sign him as a  free agent next summer, if  the club are indeed willing to wait that long to bring in another experienced center-back into the squad.

That would essentially be what Newcastle did last summer with a striker, when nobody seemed available last summer, and they brought in nobody, but they signed Papiss Cisse in January for about £9M, and that has turned out to be a stellar buy  for the club – wuth the emphasis on stellar.

It’s a bit of a mystery what the real status of Douglas’ proposed move to Newcastle really is, but so are all the other potential moves of players linked with Newcastle this summer, including Mathieu Debuchy, Andy Carroll and Vurnon Anita of Ajax.

Surely Newcastle will get a senior player through the door shortly?

Comments welcome.

Maybe he’s trying to keep the whole thing quiet as it has some sort of impact on his residency? Clutching at straws here.

Cheik tiote once entered a black hole just to see what was in it. Dissapointed, he then walked out.

  • 30 RobertNufc25 // Aug 4, 2012 at 12:30 AM

    Was away having a smoke.

    Did I miss much?
    Debuchy finish his medical?

  • 31 Robby Bobson // Aug 4, 2012 at 12:32 AM

If we nap Toulalan we wont need any centre backs…tiote alongside toulalan would be a brick wall, add cabayes vicious streak to that as well.

Not that i can see if getting toulalan, but he is defo the sort of player we could use to bring experience to the team.

  • 32 Robby Bobson // Aug 4, 2012 at 12:34 AM

hmmm i appear to have got too tactical in a thread of just poor jubberish..

the joys of being on the blog after the pub ;)

  • 33 toonLYF // Aug 4, 2012 at 12:34 AM

reading between the lines he’s at the Jesmond Dene Hotel

  • 34 nobby sol // Aug 4, 2012 at 12:36 AM

he never wanted him to come anyways, move on,

everyone calling for anita, or any other centre midfielder, please shut up!

we have cabaye tiote bigirimana amalfitano gosling vuckic abeid taylor perch, only 2 of which can play so hush we wont be signing another centre midfeilder for any sort of money like the speculated 6-8 million for anita

I will eat my hat if we sign another centre midfeilder, it makes no sense why we would.

only 2 more players will come in that is it regardless whether simo stays.

a top fullback and a quality striker

colo tayl willo good and perch is enough to cover centre half (noway taylor will get injured so bad again…..right) so douglass can shoe off, dont need him, he doesnt want to come.

can only predict debuchy and carroll

  • 35 nufc786 // Aug 4, 2012 at 12:41 AM

we will see what happens in the end…… i rely on gosling to step up next season

  • 36 Phil K // Aug 4, 2012 at 12:48 AM

The more I read about this arrogant wanker, the less I want him here.

  • 37 stoonley // Aug 4, 2012 at 1:44 AM

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m still waiting on the Steven Taylor swap deal with Puyol to happen…

  • 38 Kyo // Aug 4, 2012 at 2:41 AM

    Puyol is too old

  • 39 ilovetoon8788 // Aug 4, 2012 at 3:59 AM

so….. looks like Willo and Colo are going to be our first team centre back again if Saylor is injured.

    Willo. like seriously….

  • 40 stoonley // Aug 4, 2012 at 4:00 AM

    …tumbleweed…

  • 41 Zebras4Life // Aug 4, 2012 at 5:37 AM

Blah blah F’n blah. Over under set at £2M for starters and reserves this transfer window. Who wants action???? I’m thinking under personally. MA gives hundreds at Sports Direct a £50k bonus as he cleared £158M in profits personally. I wonder what the fans will get as a bonus? Will we get another transfer? Will we get peanuts? Or just go nuts?
    Gnite peeps.

  • 42 Klatoon // Aug 4, 2012 at 6:16 AM

    its always about Debuchy

  • 43 Ben3arfa // Aug 4, 2012 at 6:18 AM

he surely is playing “dumb” here right?

  • 44 anirudh175 // Aug 4, 2012 at 6:29 AM

i think we need another player in the Ben Arfa mould…someone who can create chances for our strikers..a playmaker…someone like riquelme (not him though..he’s too old…dunno if the lad is still good enough)…and we also desperately need to sign a defensive midfielder to cover tiote…sign anita as soon as possible…or target another DF midfielder…coz considering the amount of games we’ll be plaing this season…we definitely need a replacement for tiote for the games he is given a rest…

  • 45 ToonMauritius // Aug 4, 2012 at 6:47 AM

    Hi lads,
Breaking News, the Transfer Sage is actually having a Medical in maternity ward, i think he will deliver a big shite lie very soon, that’s why he is not on the blog

  • 46 ToonMauritius // Aug 4, 2012 at 6:51 AM

    very interesting check that “Cissensational”
    http://www.skysports.com/fanzone/blogs/story/0,,16786_7729262,00.html?

  • 47 SpaceGhost // Aug 4, 2012 at 6:52 AM

Dunno about u guys but I feel once Debuchy or Gregory Van der Wiel signs for us, the only area we really need to address is the CB position. I’m hoping we get Douglas or Mbiwa. With Curtis waiting in the wing, defensively we are sorted. I dont mind if we sign Rhys Williams, that Aussie defender at Boro to help Curtis.

If our 2 Senegalese strikers shown us it benefits the club, can’t see why 2 Aussie defenders won’t do the same.

Every other area in our 1st team are international level players with the exception of Saylor & Willo. Having said that, Anita & a top young ST such as Guidetti or Senegal’s Olimpic player, Moussa Konate will def take this already strong team to the next level.

Hope tonite’s match in Holland leads us to some Dutch signings over the weekend. Lets keep it positive here guys. C’mon Ashley! Stop sitting on yer fat wallet:)

  • 48 pizzicatochan // Aug 4, 2012 at 7:28 AM

Masks of Debuchy are for sale in front of Transfer Sage’s front door.

  • 49 Toon73 // Aug 4, 2012 at 7:29 AM

Debuchy and VDW..??? News flash we won’t be getting either of them. The Debuchy saga dragged on longer than needed he’s probably glad it fell through, seriously what a total debacle on every level.

Expect Pieters and Toivenen through now.

  • 50 Dannyo // Aug 4, 2012 at 7:44 AM

This guy sounds the same way Bramble plays football.
In other words, drop him and move on.

  • 51 bills-son // Aug 4, 2012 at 7:59 AM

Ed – you say we didin’t sign a striker last summer?

    What position does Ba play?

  • 52 sks_toon // Aug 4, 2012 at 8:05 AM

  • 53 HullMag6 // Aug 4, 2012 at 8:22 AM

    For example.
Shhh don’t tell anyone but scharner has been spotted near the Dene

  • 54 ferritass // Aug 4, 2012 at 8:31 AM

  • 57 jesperfuglsang // Aug 4, 2012 at 8:39 AM

  • 58 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 4, 2012 at 8:40 AM

    Morning,

Does anyone know if Debuchy will be playing tonight?

What? He’s not with the team?
Wait? He failed his medical yesterday?
You sure? He didn’t even have a medical yesterday?

Does this mean Transfer Sage is an ITKAN?

  • 59 jasper // Aug 4, 2012 at 8:41 AM

    First bite of humble pie…….?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19043308
How much of a write down on assets can they swallow in a season? Will they have a clear out and take it all in this season’s accounts and shift AC as well?

  • 60 pbNcl // Aug 4, 2012 at 8:42 AM

    Oi oi

Where is the transfer sage?!? Hahahahahahaha!

I wanna see him try and wriggle out of this one!

Has scharner been granted citizenship yet? Oh wait hang on, still a bit early for me

  • 67 dunbartoonfan // Aug 4, 2012 at 10:38 AM

loving the convo on here so much i thought i’d join in.
maybe we should all just go and sign the players we want ourselves and charge it to ashley.. would be funny.

btw that goal tiote scored agains arsenal, he didn’t actually kick the ball. the ball was that scared it flew into the net itself trying to get away from him. true story!

  • 68 geordiejamie89 // Aug 4, 2012 at 5:50 PM

He’s not needed. He’s got too much of an attitude. There’s plenty more talent out there and if he wants to stay at FC Twente, let him. There’s plenty would love to come to Newcastle United.
