With the Debuchy deal with Lille potentially falling apart Newcastle could look to new targets soon, if they cannot get the French International through the door soon.
Gregory van der Weil – talented Ajax right-back
Ajax are telling clubs their right-back Gregory van der Weil is available for transfer, and since he has only one year left on his contract, Newcastle could potentially get a good deal for him, and if necessary could even make it a loan deal, with an option to buy the player next May for a stated fee.
And that would give Newcastle time to see how the right back performs in the Premier League in the coming season.
Gregory van der Weil was born in Amsterdam to a father from the Carribean Island of Curaçao, and a Dutch mother, and he is a product of the renowned Ajax youth system, and the lad joined his home town club when he was just seven years old.
Van der Wiel made his professional debut for Ajax in March of 2007, when he was 19, in a 4–1 win at FC Twente, when he came on as a substitute for Jaap Stam, and he made his debut for the full Dutch national side in February of 2009, when he had just turned 21.
Gregory was in the Netherlands’ squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, when they were losing finalists to Spain, and he started at right-back in the final, and he was in the squad that competed in the Euro 2012 tournament this summer.
He doesn’t turn 25 until next February, so he is about 30 months younger than Debuchy, and he has played a total of 184 games for Ajax with twelve goals, and has appeared 35 times for the full Holland side.
Alan Pardew went to watch this lad play last season, so if we cannot get Debuchy in, it remains to be seen if the 6′ tall defender is next in line.
But Gregory doesn’t seem too pleased with things at Ajax at the moment and he has this to say:
“When you go on to celebrate your 24th birthday, you expect a nice, lucrative contract from your club.” “That certainly will keep you happy, but it seems unlikely that I would be hearing any good offer from the club now.”
“Playing at Ajax was always my dream, but now the club is making life difficult for me.” “Unfortunately, the policy of the club is not benefiting their youth players.”
“I am always surprised why the Ajax youth players receive smaller salaries as compared to the players who come from elsewhere.”
It seems that Debuchy is still Newcastle’s top choice for right back, but at least van der Weil could be brought in for a decent fee, if it’s money that Newcastle are worried about.
What do you think?

Comment #4We dont have a stronger squad, but we do have a Stronger starting 11, Cisse > Best.
Also did Marveaux and Ben arfa play that much up until christmas?
( obviously marveaux got injured).
Our line up against arsenal (H)
Krul
Simmo– Saylor–Colo- Raylor
Barton– Cabaye– Tiote– Jonas
Ba—– Best
Compared to potential line up v spurs
Krul
Debuchy/VDW– Saylor–Colo– Santon
Ben arfa— cabaye —Tiote— Jonas/marveaux
Ba—- Cisse
Sorry for the long post, but that line up is miles better than it was last year and the players from then have improved massively over that time.

Starting line up theres no question that were stronger. Squad wise, i dont think we are at this moment in time, but theres still time left to bring players in. That horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach is starting to appear a little bit tho lol hopefully the board loosen the purse strings soon.
As someone said earlier, this is our most important transfer window in yrs. I think were on the cusp of something great. Just gotta see if ashley is gonna show the ambition to go for it this window. Because if he doesnt i can guarantee this time next yr we wont have Cisse, Cabaye or Benny playing for us and that would be gutting. Cheik im not sure about he seems to love it here,

Comment #8Super Magpie, yep agree with that. Plus a few of the youngsters are ready now to challenge for a place, ie Tav, Sammy and hopefully a fully fit Gosling.
3 or 4 more good additions and it could make the difference between battling for 6th and 3rd or 4th.

Comment #13What is wrong with journalists these days.
They make up stories to such an extent that they have lost any truth in the article.
How can their editor not sack them for gettin such basic details of a story wrong.
On the BBC transfer rumours page, one of the papers claim spurs could be after rondon from Malaga an they call him a midfielder.
I’m sure anyone could be a tabloid sports journo.

Comment #14http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2183077/Mathieu-Debuchy-angry-Lyon-preventing-Newcastle-move.html
they also said in the article that we finished 6th last season when we finished 5th whoever wrote that seriously needs to be sacked on the spot for total rubbish 😛
i hope we sell demba ba in january i hope he bangs in the goals by now and january and we can sell him off for a decent price.
dont get me wrong i love demba ba think he is a good player and like him alot however newcastle comes first and i really do think he will be terrible player for our long term season chances.
if we didnt have cisse then we should keep ba but we have cisse now and ba will really push pardew to start him up front with cisse
and 4-4-2 is just not good noawdays last season was proven when spurs did that against norwich and got outrun in the middle of the park.
we were much smoother with a 4-3-3 last season been a 4-5-1 when defending
hoilett would of been perfect but im sure marveux can do that role to
marveux-cisse-ben-arfa
so i would like us to invest in a left winger who can play in a front 3 on the left a player like adam johnson just might do the trick.
i really dont think ba and cisse up front this season is the way to go would love to keep ba if he settled for that left wing spot but didnt seem happy atall and seems to be selfish for goals and not a great team player.
cisse is our man next season you watch but if its ba and cisse up front then it could be really bad for cisse as they dont click atall together up front bad parternship as proven with senegal in african nations cup

Comment #18Right its waffling time. At centre back we definately need one more in.
If you look at the others
City – Kompany, Lescott, Toure, Savic, Richards, Boyata.
Utd – Rio, Vidic, Jones, Smalling, Evans
Chelsea – Terry, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Hutchinson
Spurs – Dawson, Gallas, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Bassong, Caulker
Arsenal – Vermaelen, Kosielney, Mertesacker, Djourou, Squillaci, Bartley
Liverpool – Skrtel, Agger, Carragher, Coates, Wilson.
us – Colo, Saylor, Wilo, Good. Streete is probably another year away. Perch is a not a cb, Tav can do a job there. But all the top teams have 4 or 5 recognised centre backs.

Comment #22Ben-Arfa11 – quite a lack of respect for Ba there. Incase you forgot he scored 16 goals in 16 games for us playing up fron in the 1st half of the season. And his goals were one of the main reasons we finished so high in the league. But now we’ve got Cisse you jst wanna disregard him. Its no wonder palyer have no loyalty these days with fans like you who would just get rid once they’ve done there bit.

Comment #26i like sinclair good choice doubt swansea would sell tho
johnson on loan from man city might be the best bet
and from the area to which helps!
pardew has done a pretty good job to be fair
but his biggest descion this season is the formation he shouldnt please 1 player and ruin newcastle chances.
i hope he has the courage to decide whats best for the team
and that was proven with a 4-3-3 last season when we tore the likes of liverpool the shreds
i dont like the balance of cisse and ba up front and ben-arfa also is more effective in a more attacking area that right midfield!
cabaye and tiote and jonas are more than capable of sweeping up in midfield
tiote-the destroyer
cabaye-the silk passer
jonas-bundles of energy!

The quotes just show that cisse if anything understands that it is better for him to stay with us in pre season.
No blame or anger there. I still think we should have left it to cisse and Senegal but can understand why pardew wants to keep him here. It is Pardews job on the line if we don’t perform well.

Comment #29nick 69-i do respect ba i was happier than anyone when he scored that goal against man united he was on fire
however if i had to pick between cisse or ba it would be cisse im afraid.
and i would love to keep ba if he settled for a left wing spot or a place on the bench
however he proved towards the end of the season how unhappy he was with both those ideas.
ba and cisse up front in my view will detiorate our chances of a good season
yes we might score lots of goals in some games however i feel the points tally would be more impressive if we played the 4-3-3 most of the season than playing 4-4-2 if we played a 4-4-2 at arsenal or at liverpool we get hammerd off the pitch
we also would find it hard to break teams down at home against the lowly sides like norwich etc
4-3-3 gives you massive balance
you got the prolific cisse banging in the goals you got ben-arfa weaving his magic and you got another winger on the other side and as proven towards the end of the season ben-arfa can work hard and track back so when defending that turns into a 4-5-1
if you play 4-4-2 its just to easy to shoot the ball up long and hit and hope just like big sam does at west ham if thats what you want then ok 😛

Comment #35Ben-Arfa11 – you seem to think its a simple as ‘play Cisse and he’ll bang in the goals’. What happens when he has a poor run of form? What happens if teams figure out how to put him out the game? Ypour also forgetting the part that Demba played in quite a few of Cisse’s goals, either assists, or in the build up. Why does it have to be a choice of Demba or Cisse, it doesn’t, its simple, if we wanna push on, we need to keep our best players. You need 4 good strikers these days, we have 3, and you want to sell one. in return for a elft winger, that would leave us with Cisse and Shola.

Comment #36On a number of occasions last year, Pards described his 4-4-2 system as a gamble. For example v ManU in the 3-0 victory when it worked, and then in the 5-0 defeat to Spurs… where it didn’t!
4-3-3 gave us 7 wins in row. I think it’s the way forward.
