As expected Tim Krul will start the game today against his former club ADO Den Haag this afternoon.
And Tim will have a strong back four against his home town team of Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Davide Santon at the back as this is Newcastle’s second last full pre-season game before the season starts in two weeks time at home to Tottenham.
The two big guns of Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are up front, and Cheick Tiote and Haris Vuckic are in the engine room for Newcastle in central midfield – this is a good chance for Haris to show what he can do in the first team.
Gabby Obertan and Jonas Gutierrez are on the wings, and we would look for a good performances from our lads this afternoon – and a win.
The bench is very strong without many youngsters on it, in fact only new boy 18 year-old Gael Bigirimana is the only real youngster on the bench.
Dan Gosling returns, and we could see a few substitutions in the second half from the Magpies.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams
ADO Den Haag (4-3-3): Gino Coutinho; Kenneth Omeruo, Vito Wormgoor, Gabor Horváth, Aaron Meijers; Danny Holla (c), Jens Toornstra, Kevin Jansen; Mike Van Duinen, Rydell Poepon, Tjaronn Chery
Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Gabriel Obertan, Cheick Tiote, Haris Vuckic, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba
Substitutes: Steven Harper, James Perch, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Gael Bigirimana, Dan Gosling, Romain Amalfitano, Shola Ameobi

Vuckic in a CM role with senior players around him and plenty of movement ahead from the front 2.
Should be an interesting watch!

Its not the end of the world or anything like that, I just think we play better football in a 4-3-3 regardless of the result

I’m still waiting to see Vuckic show us exactly how far he has developed and how far he has to go. It’d be great if he could break into the 1st 11 on a regular basis…but all the reports are inconsistent on how he’s doing

Aye, I want to see more of why he apparently had overtures from Madrid, Milan etc, as a youngster. We’ve seen it in glimpses.
He seems too nice and casual sometimes and it takes him to get kicked a bit and then his competitiveness comes to the fore.

I think we’ll play 4-3-3 when the best players are available.
Pards is a horses for courses manager and will try to tailor team tactics to the opposition weaknesses.
If we are getting swamped in midfield yes he’ll play 2 DMs and Cabaye in front, and pull back the flanking players into a 4-5-1. If he wants us to play wing style with the big guys up front he’ll go 4-4-2. If he thinks the oppositon weakness is their CBs he’ll got for them, if its FBs he’ll play down the wing… He is a canny guy, doesn’t always get it right but is a fast learner.

Comment #17We don’t have one set formation for an entire season and to think that because we are playing 4-4-2 in a pre-season friendly means that we are stuck with it all season is to my mind quite frankly ridiculous.
Yes we do play better with a 4-3-3 but sometimes it is not about the type of football you play but the result that you get. We have evolved from The Entertainers, and because of that I actually think we are more entertaining…paradoxical isn’t it 😀
