As expected Tim Krul will start the game today against his former club ADO Den Haag this afternoon.
And Tim will have a strong back four against his home town team of Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Davide Santon at the back as this is Newcastle’s second last full pre-season game before the season starts in two weeks time at home to Tottenham.
The two big guns of Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are up front, and Cheick Tiote and Haris Vuckic are in the engine room for Newcastle in central midfield – this is a good chance for Haris to show what he can do in the first team.
Gabby Obertan and Jonas Gutierrez are on the wings, and we would look for a good performances from our lads this afternoon – and a win.
The bench is very strong without many youngsters on it, in fact only new boy 18 year-old Gael Bigirimana is the only real youngster on the bench.
Dan Gosling returns, and we could see a few substitutions in the second half from the Magpies.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams
ADO Den Haag (4-3-3): Gino Coutinho; Kenneth Omeruo, Vito Wormgoor, Gabor Horváth, Aaron Meijers; Danny Holla (c), Jens Toornstra, Kevin Jansen; Mike Van Duinen, Rydell Poepon, Tjaronn Chery
Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Gabriel Obertan, Cheick Tiote, Haris Vuckic, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba
Substitutes: Steven Harper, James Perch, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Gael Bigirimana, Dan Gosling, Romain Amalfitano, Shola Ameobi

Comment #43would love to see us go for Moussa Konate, fast, tricky, powerful and scores goals. can play up front or out wide aswell. Doubt he’d cost all that much either

Comment #50Why 4-4-2?? World Cup and European championship has already proven that 4-4-2 is dead and buried in modern football. Modern more dynamic 4-5-1 and 3-5-2 has already shown it will overrun 4-4-2 no sweat.
Cmon pardew. Why play a formation just to suit one particular player?

Comment #51Sammy Ameobi was Out in Tup Tup last night, and was drinking bottled beer! I was shocked as it’s pre season. Other thing is he appeared and seemed very ignorant when we tried to have a crack with him. I expected better as Shola is a sound bloke.

Comment #55If Tavernier is the great next hope why isn’t he playing in a friendly which is a very similar game to something we might face in Europa, and am I about to be attacked and then ostracised for being critical of a Pards decision and being disloyal to RTaylor.

A couple of results doesn’t prove that 4-4-2 is the way to go. In tactical point of view its proven 4-4-2 will get you nowhere. 2 recent major tournament has shown it. We might not be so lucky with 4-4-2 all the time. Especially with wingers like obertan and guittirez who can’t cross.

Comment #61How does the fact that Spain don’t play 442 prove that it’s dead and buried?
That is the worst piece of logic I’ve ever heard.

Comment #63How is it “proven” that 4-4-2 gets you nowhere? Who has conducted this research? Or are you simply stating a “fact”?

I am aware of the great power entrusted upon my shoulders, I carry my burden stoically…being a bit dark is fun at times though. When the season resumes and positivity is emanating then I shall be my usualy yoda-like self 😀

Comment #65No. Nothing to do with Spain. Teams that used 4-4-2 got overrun fairly easily. For eg. England. Italy 4-5-1 made short work of England. It’s an outdated formation.
