When Newcastle play Cardiff City next Saturday afternoon in their final pre-season game, they will find Cardiff in unfamiliar red strips – and we suppose they’ll not have the nickname The Bluebirds any more?
Malky Mackay – Cardiff City manager
Cardiff City have confirmed they will change their shirts from blue to red with a new dragon crest as part of the major investment being made by Malaysians Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Dato Chan Tien Ghee, known as TG.
The move was objected to by the fans when it was first proposed earlier this summer, which is hardly surprising – it’s almost like Newcastle changing to red and white strips, but there goes the tradition, and it’s not surprising Cardiff City fans are not pleased.
The new Cardiff City Crest
Newcastle will likely play their top side at Cardiff City Stadium next Saturday, and we hope we can get on the goals track, because in six pre-season games we’ve scored only five goals, and failed to score yesterday against Den Haag, although the Magpies were well on top in the 0-0 draw.
The Cardiff manager Malky Mackay played for West Ham in 2004-2005, while Alan was manager of the London club, and they are good friends, and Alan even tried to get Malky to Newcastle as Assistant Manager when Malky was still at Watford, but the move failed.
Malky talked about the upcoming game next Saturday afternoon against the Magpies:
“It is a smashing game for us.” “Alan is a good friend of mine and I’m delighted he’s agreed to bring his side down here.”
“It’s going to be a very tough test because they were fantastic last season, they were a real surprise package.
“It’s the last game for both of us before the season starts proper and by then you usually go with what you are ready to roll with.”
Before the Newcastle game Cardiff travel to Bournemouth on Tuesday, and Newcastle will send an eleven to play at Hartlepool United on the same evening.
It should be a good game next Saturday, and it will be on a good pitch against a good side, and that’s a fitting test for the last game of pre-season.

Oh yeah I forgot he’s injured till early 2013 🙁
Well that scuppers that idea. If he was fit he’d have been the perfect player for us in a Del Piero role behind Cissé, able to play wide in a front 3 as well as CF of course. I’d be prepared to wait for January for him actually; such a good player.

Unfortunatly corchia isnt really an unknown talent at sochaux hes had a cracking couple of seasons, maybe if they had been relegated could of got him on the cheap but think he would be just as much as debuchy

Comment #16That’s shockin that. I can’t believe he actually went thru with it and changed them to red. No respect for the club at all…. Does he think he’s bought a train set?? Jus shows, money really does alienate you from reality sometimes

Comment #22Corchia has only had 1 year in the french premier league he signed from LE Mans who are a 2nd division outfit, last summer, I mentioned last year to Niafron that we should be after him as he was young with amazing potential and I have been proven he’s had a cracking season with Sochaux would love us to sign him he’s only 21

Comment #23I think I agree with the mighty Ketsbaia & if we don’t sign Debuchy (which looks unfortunately likely now) then we should make a move for Aly Cissokho and then put Santon at RB. With Cissokho also younger than Debuchy it may benefit us in the long run as well. Lyons apparently are willing to listen to offers as well.

Comment #29Wrestling is awesome. Shame it’s not 1999 again.
On subject, I’m looking forward to this game and I hope we can get Anita and debuchy over the line next week. Wouldn’t mind seeing Douglas and a striker as well but it’s all wishful thinking.

Comment #32I’ve got no respect for the Cardiff fans whatsoever .
I was in the Black Bull on Barrack Rd after we played them in the Championship on the Friday night, when so called Cardiff Fans stormed the pub and the Police were called.
Total animals!
