It’s always nice when Newcastle players are called up for their countries, but it’s also a worrying time, because they could get injured and sometimes there is an awful amount of traveling to do for a single game, especially for South Americans or Australians.
Fabricio Coloccini – Newcastle United captain
But it was still great that Newcastle captain has again been called up for Argentina, after having been omitted from Diego Maradona’s squad for the World Cup in South Africa, and not having had many call ups at all since that time.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is rightly delighted that one of his very best players has again been recognized by his country, and Alan had this to say on the Newcastle web-site today:
“We all know at Newcastle how good he is and he should never have been out of the Argentinian squad.” “They’ve got a new manager and probably that’s something to do with it.”
“It’s difficult for us because he’s going to have to do a lot more travelling but on a personal level I’m absolutely delighted for him.”
The new Argentina coach is Alejandro Sabella and Fabricio is back in the squad for the friendly against Germany in Frankfurt on Wednesday, 15th August, but it really is daft to have friendly Internationals just three days before the Premier League kicks off – where’s the sense in that?
And the last time Coloccini represented Argentina was the inaugural game at the Aviva Stadium against Ireland back on Thursday, August 12th, almost two years ago, when Coloccini came on as a sub for Walter Samuel after about 80 minutes, and Argentina won that game 1-0.
We hope that Colo can rekindle his International career, because he’s certainly good enough, but first things first, and we just hope he returns on Thursday, 15th August all ready to lead out Newcastle against Tottenham at St. James’ Park. to kick off the new season.

Comment #41the way i look at it would be this. if newcastle have only managed to sign players young, inexperinced and not ready for first team, then it will have become clear that football teams have learned from the mistakes. so now they are not selling players we want for small fees, that way they can avoid suffering another cabaye like loss.

Comment #43Sell Shola? Howay man. What would we get for him at this stage? Surely that money is worth seeing him heartbreak the great unwashed down the road alone.
We’re already complaining at a lack of strikers, I don’t see selling one has any benefit at all.
On your other comment, I’m really hoping for an out of the blue signing. Those are great and would save some posters some stress eating as we near August 31st.

On Olympic based humour, saw this earlier which made me smile.
In the Women’s 400m hurdles event one woman fell over. Any guesses who? Vania Stambolova of Bulgaria…classic.

Comment #52maybe off topic but to finish any higher than sixth would be amazing. because chelsea who finished just below us go out nd spend 30 million on a player. ashley wouldnt pay the fair transfer fee of around 7 millionfor debuchy and now looks to have missed out. we leaked so many goals last season and still no defenders through the door, im worried.

Comment #58Ibiza, I thought he already was 😉
…he just have a coach, who think he’s the Manager, running the training and going with the team on trips and so.
Is that not the case? 🙂

I think I have them finishing 9th. Fulham finished 9th last year, and are not going to improve their squad. QPR aren’t going to be top class…they just appear on paper to be the best of the 3rd tier of teams. There is a drop off at 9th, in terms of team quality. Who would you have?

Comment #64Lukes…Apparently my math is not as good as I would like to think. Honestly it get’s a little sketchy after 4 🙂 I really am not sure overall, but would be shocked to see them in the top half with all of the ego’s etc.
Jesper…..You’re not wrong, but at the minute he has someone else to blame for their short comings.
Tequila…Perhaps we can all agree that Sunderland in general provides us with endless entertainment? Long may it last.

Comment #65Not sure Sunderland and entertainment belong in the same sentence but agree with the sentiment

Aug 6, 2012 at 7:03 PM
Comment #66Of course Sunderland and entertainment belong in the same sentence, its merely the construct that is the concern.
such as
Sunderland provided the entertainment this weekend showing how to p*ss away a two goal lead.
Sunderland lack the skill and possession power let alone the striking power to provide more entertainment than a school sunday side.
The entertainment was about the same as the atmosphere at the SOL last night.
Shola provided the classic entertainment of shattering the mackems dreams again.

Comment #67I don’t play Fifa – a little bit of FM 2011 once in a while and I don’t spend much time scouting the net for good players, but the player I still would like for us to sign is Mateo Musacchio.
With Villarreal playing in the Segunda División (Spain) this season he should be affordable 🙂
Ibiza you live in Spain; do you follow Spanish football?

Comment #70Of course Debuchy aint coming his coach has openly told him any attempts to force a move in this window will only harm his France selection.
Only way hes coming now is if MA coughs up the money… so no he aint coming untill Jan at the earliest

Comment #77Missed most of the position banter but…
I think we should aim for where we are ….5th.
Okay ….if Chelski have a good season then we’re 6th.
Agree we can compete with Spuds, think Man U & C, Arsenal and Chelski will finish above us.
Be disappointed if Bindippers finish above us, and even more disappointed if Everton finish above us..
My whole point is that 5th is our PB and so that is where we should aim…. not just top ten or top eight.

Comment #78No The spuds wont do as well as last year they have a wacky way of keeping morale going by getting rid of `arry. Now there is a club with expectations beyond capability, the nearly there team that gets knocked back year after year. I would be disappointed in our lot if we couldnt hold them at bay.
