ESPN analyst and former Newcastle winger Chris Waddle has been interviewed in the local press today, and he thinks if Newcastle can finally get French International right-back Mathieu Debuchy through the door before the end of the transfer window, he will turn out to be a good signing for Newcastle.
Mathieu Debuchy – playing for France earlier this year
After Chris left Newcastle back in 1985, he played 363 times with 52 goals for the Magpies from 1980 – he moved to to Tottenham and then ended up at Marseilles in France in 1989, and stayed there for three seasons, and made 140 appearances for the side and scored 28 goals.
So Waddle knows the French leagues fairly well, and while Debuchy’s possible transfer to Newcastle is still on – at least it seems so from a Newcastle point of view – he thinks if the Magpies can get the French International on board, he will be a good signing.
This is what Chris said today, when he spoke to the local press:
“I can see why they want Debuchy.” “He’s a very talented player and is good up and down the wing.” “We saw that in the Euros for France.” “He was one of the best players.” “He’d be a good acquisition.”
“Yohan Cabaye has turned into a great signing.” “He had a very good Euros and was brilliant last year for Newcastle.” “With Newcastle at the moment the players that Alan has bought in have succeeded.”
“They have been successful signings.” “If one or two come in and are a success story it will good news for the club as they are working the transfer market well.”
Certainly Mathieu’s big pal Yohan Cabaye has been one of the best signings Newcastle have made for many many seasons, and we have to think that spurs Newcastle on in trying to bring his best pal to Newcastle, to play at right back.
If and when Mathieu arrives, we will almost certainly see Danny Simpson leave the club for around £2M, and probably move to Reading.
There are approximately 26 days to go until the transfer window slams shut on Monday, September 2nd, and we hope and pray Newcastle can get three good players through the door by then.
If we can do that we’ll be in fine shape for the upcoming season.
Here’s hoping. 😀

Imo, it’s a worry that Ba doesn’t have any goals. Not having any goals gives u nothing to reach for and it shows a lack of ambition imo.
If he put some sort of goal there, it would give him something to try for, it would make him an even better goalscorer.
Understand me right, he’s a good player, he gets goals and he can work hard for the team if he wants to.
But i reckoned he could do better, had he put a 20 goal tally infront of himself last season, it would give him that little extra to stretch for, just try ever so slightly harder.
I reckon goals and ambitions are important to aspire to new hights in general.
One shouldn’t undermine that.
But hey, Ba may have other goals on the pitch which he doesn’t mention…

Comment #5Can see us signing Anita, Debuchy and a striker. We will still need a centre-back and a striker. If we made 5 signings (adding Konate and Doulgas), I think we’d be in great shape for the new season.

Comment #6To be honest, it doesn’t really matter what Waddle thinks of how good he is – if we don’t sign him, or it becomes “Too Difficult” we need to be looking elsewhere.
Strengthening the team at LB & CB is almost essential to improving our squad and the subsequent improvement in our chances of having an even better season than the last one!

We have a qiute though start, but after that we will take the pace 🙂 No worries, and ‘not that bad the transfer window this is’ 😀 Some top youngsters we signed.. And couple of first team players are going to be signed too. What can you do? Just relax and wait, wait, wait 😀

Comment #13I am patently cleverer than all of you, my bugbear is that some of you cannot accept this and feel the need to take personal swipes, rather than lock horns on topics and perhaps, although a rare occurrence, match me.
I’m now retreating to the sidelines once more. Had to get that off my chest.

Comment #20Does waddle have a chip on his shoulder as whenever he commentates on nufc for espn he is always over critical. I find it annoying. Or is he trying to be an impartial pundit?

Ba did set himself a 20goal tally last season.
He said, when we were all doubting him that he promised he would be that 20 goals a season man.
On another note, just wet myself after reading some Liverpool fan on skysports site state “I think Citeh will offer £18m and Johnson for Agger”
Agger has missed 53% of games while at Liverpool. People are quoting £20m about him. Surely logic dictates that on that basis was he available 100% of the time he would be worth £40m? Or is it that the fee should be knocked dow to £10m wen you consider you can only play him half the time.
DEM FANS SHOULD STAY OF THE DISCO BISCUITS

Aggers a quality CB though, just a shame about his injuries really.
Agger & Skrtel could be the best pairing in the league in my opinion – but sticking Carragher in the when Agger is injured is pretty poor (;

Oh dont get me wrong Agger is a great CB when fit and as I was saying to a Liverscum fan the other day, the defence is the only thing that looks solid in that team.
BUT
Paying £20m for a player who plays about half the season? (Would you buy Saylor for £15m? thats probably what he’s worth in relation to this).
2) I would sell him in a heartbeat for £20m. They have no kitty to spend and that £20m could do wonders. £10m on a new CB that isnt injured. And then £10m on say Dempsey who they’ll probably need to replace Bellamy.
My other point was that Adam Johnson is rated at around £10-15m. Which I think is fair. So to expect £18m plus Johnson (a deal worth £28-33m is bloody ridiculous.
