All the best to tamas kadar

  • 2 Slater // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:48 PM

Went to tOnights game being from Hartlepool. Shola before his injury was outstanding, brilliant hold up play and vision. A great game from Amalfitano, Gosling and Marvoiux. Ben Arfa had a very quiet game and seemed to easily loose possession but overall a fantastic performance with a great Newcastle following. Oh and by the way, first post after following the blog for 3 years. Keep up the good work Ed and great to hear your on the mend.

  • 3 Jail for Ashley // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:50 PM

On topic, never seen or listened to the game so can’t comment.
From my previous (previous) thread, apart from the obvious disadvantage of players taking time to bed in,I suppose in a way it might make sense to see whether we are competing in Europe if we aren’t I think it would be wise to buy a LB rather than a RB but if we are (in Europe)then a move for Anita and Debuchy could be on the cards, really don’t know what to expect though.

  • 4 Szarka // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:53 PM

Kadar hopefully will be a starter for Roda, plus have a pal in Nemeth there. He really needs games, could have liked a one year loan later in hes carrier, so he could have developed better. Maybe England isnt the best place for him, too much injuries too.

Any video for this friendly, or something? Couldnt even find a link for the match.

  • 5 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:55 PM

Didn’t Shola come off at half time ?. I’m sure you cant even walk when you have done your cruciate

  • 6 Kyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:55 PM

How the frack would we know who the best player was?

  • 7 markmac // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Did any1 except ed (and any1 who made the trip) actually see the game? If not Cant really vote on this 1 lol

  • 8 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:57 PM

Impossible for me to vote on this Ed, only those who where there should vote tbh.

  • 9 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:58 PM

The highligts are supposedly on SSN in 2 mins.

  • 10 darrenfletcher88 // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:59 PM

Lol,who nos but Marv got two and an assist so should be him!!!!

  • 11 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 9:59 PM

Anyone got a stream for SSN? Mines dead now.

  • 12 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:00 PM

Great result. Good to read most of the team gave a good showing of themselves. Great to get a big win, always good for morale. Hope Shola’s injury ins’t too severe, but perhaps just bad enough to get us a decent striker in sharpish, with Shola returning shortly after ;)

We obviously didn’t see the game, but it’s clear who our best player was. Scharner.

Good night one and all, hasta luego x

    Never mind, found one,
Highlights from our match are SUPPOSEDLY to be displayed here tonight.

  • 15 BeeGuy // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:04 PM

I just checked my Nigerian/English dictionary and found the word Ameobi means “injured by half-time”.

  • 16 jesperfuglsang // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:05 PM

With Jake Alnwick getting game time today do you guys think AP is not convinced about Elliot?

  • 17 bollance // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:06 PM

Was Luke James any good for H’pool? We were liked with him last season. Good prospect

  • 18 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:07 PM

I attended the game tonight, Bigiriman absolutely outstanding picked passes allover the box! Then Gosling was quality too, gotta say Bigi has got a massive chance of starting this season.
Shola played awesome (dare I say it) won every header. Obertans goal was quality! Vuckic’s goal was nicely taken. Marveaux was really good. When Shola got injured we played a 5 man midfield with Vuckic up top, very entertaining match :D

  • 19 bollance // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Alnwick is in the shop window. Needs to get out on loan next season to a football league club.

  • 20 Cool Hand Luke // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:09 PM

of all the matches not to have a stream :-/ good to see the lads had a good performance there, especially glad for Vuckic and Obertan. Its nice to see Pardew give Vuckic the playing time he needs to regain his form.

  • 21 Cool Hand Luke // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:11 PM

Oi Ed… Obertans not on the list of olayers in the poll ;-)

  • 22 Cool Hand Luke // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:12 PM

Can anyone who was at the game confirm the formation? was it actually a 4-2-1-3?

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:12 PM

I have been one of Goslings biggest critics since he’s been given a few chances I would like nothing better than to be proved wrong about the lad.

  • 24 kevymartins // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:13 PM

All the pre season goals are coming on ssn next

  • 25 geordie157 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:13 PM

    Highlights on ssn sometime soon

  • 26 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:14 PM

We still need a few players!

  • 27 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:14 PM

AP has either second thoughts on Robbie, needs to put Alnwick in the loan window, Alnwick is a better GK, Robbie was injured, fielded Alnwick to have a look incase we should have 2 GKs injured at some point.
The latter is not unlikely considering Harpers knee popping in and out.

  • 28 geordie157 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Good to see vuckic getting on the score sheet and playing well, gosling and Obertan seem up for the challenge of proving their critics wrong. Shola injury though just enforces the matter that we need another striker. Will ranger or xisco get another chance?

  • 29 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:15 PM

The most official source u can find is the nufc official home page, which states it as 4-2-3-1.

  • 30 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:16 PM

Was 4-1-3-1, bigi defensive midfield, shola on top with amalfitano, gosling and marv in the middle.

Gosling looks a class player same as last season, every time ball was delivered into box he was there ran a mock. Europe for him no doubt, yes was on Hartlepool but I feel the way we played.. We’re ready to attack Spurs!

  • 31 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:17 PM

    4-2-3-1. Sorry mate

  • 32 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:19 PM

Perch was alongside Bigi, untill Saylor got shifted off

  • 33 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:21 PM

    Guys stop getting excited.

We beat a lower team with our reserve side. Yes it was a good result with good performances but we should’ve won by that margin.

There is a long way to go before we are ready for Spurs and a few players light of where we need to be!

  • 34 mattnufc // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:23 PM

We wont get the players we need by Spurs but by the end of transfer window, in Pardew we trust, we will.

  • 35 jesperfuglsang // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:25 PM

I am really syked about Gosling this season. Thought he had a great pre-season last year as well, but injurie and great form from others made it difficult for him.

Plus I think he has confidence issues. Really hope he comes good this season :-) the same goes for Vuckici

Any news on Ameobi? We really need him staying fit this season :-)

  • 36 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:25 PM

Like I said it was Hartlepool, but the way the game went you’d look at the players and think yeah some of these are ready.. Meaning Bigi, Gosling, Obertan and Vuckic, these will all pile pressure on the first team. Really want to see Bigi and Tiote playing alongside together mind.

  • 37 Novocastrian66 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:25 PM

    Beattie. Sanity prevails.

  • 38 ToonDownSouth // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:27 PM

No point trying to stop people being happy about a victory.

  • 39 Munster Mag // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:28 PM

Good post Beattie. People need to stand back from this a bit and look at how slow we are to invest, when we definitely have money to spend. Three players can make us a top 5 team and maybe better. Are we willing to take the plunge, or must we put value before all else??

  • 40 kevymartins // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:29 PM

    Ruddy not been back yet?

  • 41 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:30 PM

It would be nice to throw an 18 year old into the PL after 30 championship games for a relegated team and a handful of friendlies.

I am as excited as the next person about Bigis potential but the fact remains we are still too weak in depth and quality and it’d be a a massive gamble to play kids in the Pl, Europe and domestic cups.

  • 42 BelfastMagpie87 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:30 PM

    How did Gosling do lads?

  • 43 jakesome // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:33 PM

    ssn after the break

  • 44 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:34 PM

IMO we have a stronger starting 11 this season but not nessicerally a stronger squad. We have let Best, Lovenkrands and Guthrie go and have not really replaced them. My main worries are at CB and upfront. I dread to think what we will do if Saylor gets injured again or if Senegal qualify for ACON, especially with Shola crocked. I would sleep alot easier if Ashley would sign at least 3 players

  • 45 kevymartins // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:34 PM

Take my breath away boom boom

  • 46 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:35 PM

I aint gunna fuss but why not test him for 30mins in a game? He really looks up for it, had steve howard allover the pitch, doesn’t that say something?

  • 47 Spuggy // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:35 PM

Gosling is a decent player but he’s too slow for the pace of the PL, especially against top teams.

  • 48 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:35 PM

    Paul Fraser ?@paulfraserecho
Shola Ameobi had to go off with a knee problem tonight. It’s not serious. Seemed happy enough after the game. #nufc #echosport

    Thank god.

  • 49 Novocastrian66 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:35 PM

I think we started down a slippery slope when we qualified for the CL a few year back and we only brought in Lee Bowyerin the transfer window. We went out in the play off for the CL proper and I was convinced at the time this was a direct result of a lack of investment to build on our achievement.
I fear we’re doing the same this close season. We need to buy.

  • 50 ToonDownSouth // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:38 PM

    Vuckic’s finish was decent haha.

  • 51 hotdog // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:38 PM

Ed can i vote for Obertan even though i didnt see the game? Im usually his worse detractor but as i didnt see it he might of been out of this world ;-)

  • 52 Spuggy // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:39 PM

Obertan’s goal was the pick, although nice control from Marveaux for his. Their defence looked all at sea.

Pards saying he hopes to add more players.

  • 53 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:39 PM

Ameobi I certainly agree with you there.

Coming on as a sub would certainly only quicken his improvement and he will be an immense player but I still think we need more and that Bigi, Mehdi and Haris should be nurtured not pressured. The only way we can do that is by buying the enforcements we need.

I don’t want to dampen your optimism but we cannot be led into a false sense of security.

It’s likely that against Spurs we are going to play a 4-4-2 without any new recruits.

IMO that is going to lead to a performance a world away from tonight’s result. It certainly won’t be the free flowing attacking tactics we saw tonight.

  • 54 martoon // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:40 PM

Apparently Shola hobbled off – I don’t think you can walk with a cruciate ligament injury – so hopefully not too serious.

  • 55 Novocastrian66 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:41 PM

    BPC. Agree. 100%.

  • 56 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:41 PM

AP: “Maybe we should all focus a little bit on the transfer market now.”

His comment after talking a bit about the olympics…

  • 57 kevymartins // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:43 PM

Thought obertan’s goal was’nt that good as people were saying

  • 58 Kyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:44 PM

No shyt, Alan. We need our top priority targets!

  • 59 Jail for Ashley // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:44 PM

Listening to total sport tonight and its not just us thats worrying about lack of activity ,according to the ”expert” opinions of Ando and Benno the market should start moving this week ?

  • 60 Kyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:46 PM

JFA – Sky Sports and a journalist in Holland reckon Anita has refused to sign a new contract and is expected to arrive here by the end of the week.

  • 61 iamrough // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:46 PM

  • 62 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:46 PM

Well, compared to recent years, the market has been very quiet in general.
I dunno why that is. EC at first, then all the focus on the olympics maybe?
I mean, something is stealing the attention.
Could also be the new FIFA rule on spending.

  • 63 nufc786 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:47 PM

    kyo is right
A Dutch journalist claims Vurnon Anita could be sold to Newcastle this week and expects another Ajax man to follow.

We ask our sources in France how want-away right back Mathieu Debuchy is reacting to the news he is to stay at Lille.

  • 64 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:47 PM

Arsenal, QPR and Chelsea are the only teams that have been relatively busy in the transfer market so far like

  • 65 TorqToon // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:48 PM

KYO – have you got a link for that?! Would love the news to be true but 20yrs of toon support has made me cynical!

  • 66 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:48 PM

It was the skill before goal, he did a lot.. Really good goal.

Aye exactly, we will strengthen it was just a kick really but a good one. Let’s just focus on transfers till Staurday.. Had more fans than hartlepool today I think we had just over 2600 ;)

  • 67 Spuggy // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:48 PM

I think we only have a 20% chance of signing Debuchy, the deal may well be dead already and at 27 years of age, I can’t see us wanting him next window.

  • 68 hotdog // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:48 PM

Ok so we buy 4 or 5 players, how are the youngsters going to progress. People need to remember these back up lads are not like it was 20 years ago, where they were local lads Watson,Thompson,Clark,Elliot etc. The club has scoured the world and invested alot of money in the likes of Vuckic & Abeid. The club wants to build a reputation of bringing 17-20 year olds through, signing more potential first teamers will only hamper their development.

  • 69 nufc786 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:49 PM

its the link i posted mate kyo is spot on

  • 70 Spuggy // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:49 PM

If we do sign Anita he can also cover LB as well as DCM.

  • 71 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:50 PM

Maybe that was a hint from Alan?

I mean even Man Citeh haven’t bought anyone yet have they?

C’mon Derek, Lee and Mike let’s get cracking on so I can crack one off.

  • 72 ToonAndy // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:51 PM

Did any of u actually watch the game?? …. Bigi was the best player by a country mile! The lad is sheer class! … He is pretty much tiote with a much better range of passing… Granted he doesn’t tackle quite as well yet but almost!! …marveaux looked good… Didn’t lose the ball once and showed flashes of skill and good passing…
Are you ready boys??? – obertan came on and was absolutely immense!! .. His skill and speed was very good to watch and he took his goal very well!

  • 73 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:53 PM

Signing 2 first team players will not hamper the youngsters! It will help bring them on if anything!

  • 74 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:54 PM

    @ Hotdog

Our youngsters will still get a chance regardless of signing a few players.

You have to take into consideration

    1. Injuries
    2. Europe
    3. FA cup
    4. Carling cup
    5. Suspensions (cough…cough Tiote)

Believe me they will get their chance

  • 75 hotdog // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:54 PM

ToonAndy – Did you get a stream and how did Taylor do?

  • 76 hotdog // Aug 7, 2012 at 10:56 PM

Hey I agree we need a couple of bodies in but im just trying to make the point that we will see alot more of the squad being used, You can see the back up players are getting better and better imo.

  • 77 lukes26 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:00 PM

When was the last time Newcastle truly lost a quality player to the transfer market? In the past decade, Bellamy and Scott Parker are the only two Newcastle truly missed.

  • 78 ToonAndy // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Hotdog – no I went to the match… Steven Taylor I’m presuming?… He looked solid.. Didn’t have a lot to do but when he did he did well.. Still needs a few games in him though.

Another player I was quite happy with was Gosling… He worked very hard and strung a few nice passes together… By far the best game I’ve seen him in

  • 79 nufc786 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:01 PM

    what about curtis good????

  • 80 Griff-toon // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:01 PM

@toonandy Obertan plays well in friendlies where there is no pressure. Did the same last season. Rusta why I hope fans stay of his back and encurages him during the season. Always back out players.

  • 81 GeordieToon89 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:04 PM

Martoon – you can walk with the cruciate injury mate, i done mine plus fractured my fibia i got up walked to my car drove home seen my leg was mahoosive then went to hosp and waited over a year for my operation ha

  • 82 LGFUAD21 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:04 PM

True, he looked like one of Manures best last pre-season. Was played in the number 10 role and was making a mockery of defenses.

  • 83 Griff-toon // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:05 PM

Rusta – thats, out – our. Damn mobile.

  • 84 Spuggy // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:05 PM

Why don’t you give us a player by player review of the game seen as none of us could see/hear it.

  • 85 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:05 PM

I think I’ve figured out what’s going on with transfers.

Pardews comments about the olympics and now concentrating on transfers.

Take for example Carzola. Signed for 15 million by Arsenal but relegated to second place in the interest of the public behind the behemoth that is the Olympics.

Ashley is a bonafied pimp when it comes to generating headlines for his sports direct company and nufc. Why compete for headlines against the Olympics?

Monday next week when the Olympics is finished and normality returns is when we will see deals being pushed through.

Optimism returns until the bi polar kicks in.

  • 86 LGFUAD21 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:07 PM

That’s odd. My mam did hers and fractured her tibia and she couldnt walk without someone to properly support her.

It’s now 6 months on and after 2 operations and weeks of phisio she can still only walk short distances with a limp.

  • 87 Spuggy // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:08 PM

Nice conspiracy theory – I like it. Plus I’m bored of track and field now the 100m is done.

  • 88 hotdog // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:08 PM

ToonAndy – Cheers – I know a mad Everton fan and they were gutted when they lost Gosling as he reckoned he was the best prospect they had apart from Rooney.

  • 89 Dannyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Swansea linked with Obertan all of the sudden, Routledge wasn’t enough?
Bit out of the blue that one.

  • 90 ToonAndy // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Good came on with about 15 mins to go and looked promising… I was keeping my eye on him more so than others with him being our new signing… His positional play was spot on and made a few clearances from crosses into the box… Only played simple passes but all the right ones… Hard to know exactly what he’s like after just 15 mins and against Hartlepool lol

  • 91 hotdog // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:11 PM

cheers sounds like a very mature player for such a young age

  • 93 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:12 PM

Y’know what, I’m bored of being on the outside looking in so I think I will swallow my pride and throw myself back in the game. I love this club and this blog too much to be bullied off it.

On topic- great result and if people are allowed to get disheartened and start criticising Pards for the poor performance against Den Haag then equally we should be allowed to be perky and upbeat given that we completely outclassed a side that beat the Unwashed!

Added to the great result, is the fact that seemingly some of the fringe/young players are playing really well. By all accounts Bigi was very good, Marv seems to be getting into the swing of things and the whipping boys Gosling and Obertan are even getting praise from people who were at the match so surely this bodes well for the players we have already at the club.

I do also genuinely believe that 2 more bodies for the 1st team will be through the door by 31st August, perhaps not by the time we face Spuds but we will get them in.

I have faith in the wily silver fox that is our manager. In Pards I trust :D

  • 94 Griff-toon // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:13 PM

I think you are on to something. Like the transfer of Carrol is too big a story to have diminished by the olympics. ;) dont think we will get him though.

Anything above splendid. 1 point from those 2 I may grudgingly accept.

Think we will sign Debuchy and Anita next week

Would also love us to sign another forward and possibly Pieters if he proves his fitness….

  • 106 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:22 PM

I saw that, apparently my problem was that I was patently more clever than everyone and simply wanted people to match my intelligence…can’t say I disagree with those views :P

    (Again I am joking…)

I am not going to qualify every joke I make from now on, if haters want to hate then bring it ;) haha

  • 107 BelfastMagpie87 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:22 PM

I new you would be back Ruddy.

    You love the battle :-)

  • 108 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:23 PM

    Griff toon,

    Spot on!

Carroll massive pre olympics. Now nobody cares that West Ham are out of the running and we sit, biding our time, waiting idly by as the euphoria surrounding the Olympics dies down and football returns to the number 1 sporting activity and journalistic importance.

  • 109 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:25 PM

I think you might be right but I prefer to battle with people over things related to football and preferably NUFC but recently a lot of people were getting very personal in their attacks and they just happened to catch me on a low day and I jumped the gun by saying I was leaving.

I would be happy with 2 points from Spuds and Chelsea, let’s not forget that Chelsea have astronomically improved their quality in the close season and the AVB effect could see Spurs come out of the traps quickly. Anything less than 2 would be a let down but not disastrous, after all the season is 38 games long and a lot can happen I mean look at Arsenal’s start to last season and they still managed to finish 3rd.

  • 110 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:27 PM

    Enjoy Sunderland JFA. Safe journey.

Also regarding the olympics and transfers

Has anyone considered that if we signed anyone during this period there photos in the stadium would not have any sports direct logos due to the Olympics.

We are waiting for it to finish I tells you.

  • 111 SupaToonKid // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:28 PM

Bad news lads on our main transfer target :(

  • 112 GeordieToon89 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:29 PM

Hotdog – No mate manual car, don’t get me wrong i was in sheer agony but couldn’t leave my car where i was playing so drove home, obviously i wasnt walking normal it was slow and painful but i was still walking..

LGFUAD21 – Well obviously it effects people in different way and i’m guessing my surgeon was better than what your mam has had unfortunately, I had my operation back in March and i’m not well on the road to recovery, walking normal doing runs and loads of cycling and i’m even kicking the odd football all be it only little short pass and moves.. BUT i must stress in the year i waited for my operation i was doing as much as possible to keep mobile and keep my muscles around my knee strong so the operation would be more successfull (Surgeons Advice) … Hopefully your mam has better luck in the future.!!

  • 113 hotdog // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:31 PM

Does Lille’s president know about the Olympics finishing and our signings ;-)

  • 114 Beattie25 // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:33 PM

I think that Chelsea may struggle early on and that we may find playing them early in the season may benefit us.

We were lucky last year how well we jelled over such a short period of time and I hope that we can snatch a draw. If not then I wouldn’t be too dissapointed as long as we beat Spurs.

Spurs are a team we should be looking to beat to really push for top 8 again this season.

  • 115 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:33 PM

    @ Beattie

You stole my post, how dare you :). Great minds think alike I suppose

  • 116 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:33 PM

So were there many of you guys at the match tonight? Would love to hear in depth analysis of how certain players played. Aside from his goal did Vuckic play well, was Obertan making better use of the ball and is Gosling finally going to realise his potential for us this season? (I’ll admit that last question cannot just be answered on his performance tonight alone but it is one I want answered)

  • 117 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:33 PM

Welcome back Ruddy, good to see you back :D

  • 118 SupaToonKid // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:34 PM

If Debuchy deal is truly dead & buried then I’d like us to go in for Cissokho & move Santon over to RB.

Also interesting to see Swansea linked to Obertan. If they give us the money we payed Man Utd for him I’d sell & reinvest in a Carr gem. Think Fergie tricked his mate Pards into that deal.

  • 119 Kyo // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:34 PM

I’ll promise to stop moaning if we sign Anita this week.

I’ll probably break that promise because I really can’t stand Simmo but selling Obertan would help soften the heartache of missing out on him a little.

  • 120 SupaToonKid // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:35 PM

I hope this Dutch journo is right about Anita.

  • 121 magpiebop // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:36 PM

The pressure is on these players to perform and they certainly stepped up to the mark. Now is not the time to dampen our optimism wii the build up to the spurs game the stadium will be electric wii anticipation.

  • 122 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:37 PM

Well you could be right about the need for their team to gel, but I think the sheer quality in their side will make them a formidable opponent, so much so, that I am actually tipping them to finish maybe 2nd or 3rd.

Spurs are a different kettle of fish altogether, and I do agree with you that we should be looking to beat them, but a draw wouldn’t be a bad result either.

And lastly, is that your preliminary objective for the season, pushing top 8? If so then I would like to congratulate you on your pragmatic realism and not succumbing to the notion that “if we don’t do better than last year we’re going backwards” philosophy. Given the added football and strains of playing in Europe a top 8 finish would be excellent progress.

I must admit that I really don’t understand where exactly you’re coming from. What exactly has Simmo done wrong?

As for selling Obertan, he’s still a young lad with bags of potential.

Here’s a bit of slack, will you cut a bit for Obertan?

  • 132 AMEOBI // Aug 7, 2012 at 11:52 PM

Ruddy, I’ll try my best for you as I attended tonight.

Tavenier – played at LB, very good easy game looked very good on the ball was attacking a lot had a few good shots, similar to Santon but stronger.
Saylor and Willo – nothing wrong at all at CB, conceded through a corner ball scrambled to sweeney he had a nice goal from a rocket to the top of the net.
Simmo – very well, gave marveaux a lot of space to attack. Good performance
Bigi – played box to box, wow he was incredible, picked long balls allover the pitch, had big Howard in his back back pocket.
Gosling, Amalfitano – both really good, gosling was always prepared to attack, nearly every cross.. Gosling attacked it, amalfitano however played just behind shola before halftime very skillful (had me off my seat!) Easy game for both.
Marveaux, ben arfa – Marv being the better player, thought having both on the pitch was exciting.. A lot of skill beautiful runs, marveaux looks very promising mind. Ben arfa being as clever as he is took a dribble to far and keeper saved his sitter haha.
Shola – he had every cross covered unlucky not to score 5 mind
Obertan – very good tonight, best I’ve seen him play, but then again its Hartlepool. Plenty skill and movement, topped it off with a great goal.
Vuckic – played up top with benny behind him after HT. Great runs, looks the lad he’s been seen to be, brilliant! Good chip to finish his night.
Good – he came on for 15mins, nothing to do but looks comfortable like.
Pick of the bunch would easily be.. Bigi, Gosling, Marveaux, Vuckic.

    Just for you Ruddy ;)

    The battle of the Ruddys…

  • 137 jonny-intense // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:01 AM

For those who couldn’t be there…

Harper – Same old Steve, assured but all shots down his throat. Was having craic with us (along with Simpson).

Alnwick – Not much to do really, didn’t look out of place though.

Simpson – Played well. Looked to get forward and seemed to enjoy himself. Defended as well, as per.

Willo – Not a difficult game for him. Won most headers and was in and around for the corners.

Saylor – Again, not difficult and not much to do. A bit of a run around to get his fitness up.

Tav – Looked very good. Was attempting to get forward a lot from LB and linked up well with Amalfitano etc. (ended up at LW when Santon came on). Only had one issue against Franks, who isn’t a bad little player. He had a good game and gave his top to a kid in the crowd at the end, which was nice to see.

Perch – Didn’t look as good at CB when he was moved next to Willo. Seemed more comfortable in midfield.

Santon – Looked bright when he came on and tried to take it to their defence when he had the ball at his feet.

Raylor – Didn’t get the biggest run out. Nothing to do really. This game won’t have told us what we already know though (over the wall and whatnot).

Bigi – Played excellent. Passing, tackling and general marshalling were very good. Seemed to be everywhere. Couple fouls given away (pushes and the like) but he’s only young.

Gosling – Again, he was everywhere. Played well and put together some decent passes. Was in and around the box when we were looking to get forward but defended well also.

Perch – Looked good in midfield – broke up the play well.

Amalfitano – His passing and touches were excellent. Many moves came from him and he was also looking for the ball all the time.

Marv – Excellent. Two well taken goals, a lot of skill, good passes, pace. H’pool didn’t know what to do.

Abeid – Thought he was very good when he came on. Baptism of fire as he had to stay back to defend when he came on as we had a corner. The guy got past him and he was brought down. This lead to their goal from the set piece. No big issue though as we were 4-0 up. He slotted in seamlessly and controlled the game from a deep playmaker position it seemed. Knocked passes here, there and everywhere.

Ben Arfa – Looked bright enough, linked up well and tried some nice things. First 45 of pre-season under his belt so will only improve (as we know). Had a hand in Vuckic’s goal I think.

Obertan – His pace and skill really caused H’pool a problem and his goal was a very good hit. Hope he takes this confidence into the season with him. Was involved in more or less every passage of play when he came on.

Shola – Held the ball up well and set up some good moves when he came deep for it. Scored a good enough goal and looked a real danger. I was worried when he went off.

Vuckic – Was lively and involved when he came on and took his goal very well. Was part of some nice moves that we put together and made some intelligent runs.

Thought I’d some up my thoughts on how we played (for what it’s worth). I don’t imagine there’ll of been a link available. If anyone else who was there wants to add something, feel free. If I’ve missed anyone/thing, my apologies.

What the f? I’m lost me

  • 139 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:01 AM

Interesting that Amalfitano was played in a No 10 role and Vuckic up top. Serves to show that Pards is at the very least contemplating them in those kinds of positions, I’d thought that Amfo was a winger but maybe I got that all wrong.

Great to hear that Gosling, Obertan, Marv and Vuckic had good games as these are the types of players that we need to see step up to the plate if we’re to kick on this season.

Thanks for the real in depth analysis lad it is greatly appreciated.

Tav at LB? Have we got our very own mini-Perch!?! He’ll be playing CF next ;)

    Cheers fella!

I also dont understand why you feel we need to rid ourselves of Simmo and Obertan. Isnt squad depth important. Its not like they are hurting the team by beeing in the squad. And Obertan was good today aparently. Only 22.

  • 147 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:06 AM

There actually is no difference which is the annoying part, wish there was some kind of filter that doesn’t allow the same name to be used by more than one user.

    Ruffy imposters abound!!!

It was an easy match for us, as would be expected, but it will give us a bit of confidence a week and a bit before the season starts. It was also a good game for everyone to realise where we need to be looking for each other when we pass it about. An easier match to let us string some competitive-ish attacking moves together will help us going forward.

  • 151 GeordieToon89 // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:11 AM

Ah cheers Ruddy, thought you was on one with me haha.
Yeah exactly mate, it was nice to see Vuckic playing there instead of further back, he’s defo a CF/ST mind.
With Amalfitano, yeah he suits the number 10 role, liked Pardews choices, with Tav being the “mini perch” that’s right haha love it! Just bursting down nice to see some confidence in the team.
Let’s try a new formation and maybe Abeid start on saturday, till then let’s hope we get somewhere with transfers!

Aye jonny, Abeid looks a tank like doesn’t he, battering their midfield haha. Good game to watch :D

  • 155 AMEOBI // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Ah, Ed sort some filter out with the names, give a mail Ruddy, he’ll sort it out. Oi fake ruddy why do it?

  • 156 Kyo // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Reason I’m not a Simmo fan is because he is awful at going forward and his defending is average. Don’t even tell me his goal-line clearance at old trafford saved the day because it was he who was responsible for us conceding the goal in the first place.

  • 157 jonny-intense // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Vuckic is clever enough, in an attacking sense, to lead the line and has the skill and ability to draw those in around him. He clearly excels in ST/AM, as you say.

Abeid looked like Xabi Alonso or something tonight, he just took it off whoever had it and set up our next attack with a lovely, neat pass.

Very fun game to watch and we were in excellent voice!

Amal was everywhere as well and was linking up well with whoever was around him. I said to my Bro-in-Law on the way there, we could play him across midfield but he would be ideal behind a striker. Lovely touches and passing so it’s difficult to get the ball off him before he’s set someone away. His movement is good as well.

  • 158 jonny-intense // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:20 AM

Kyo – From what I’ve seen of pre-season (ESPN and live) Simpson hasn’t looked too bad going forward. He’s passed and crossed it well, which has surprised me.

  • 159 Super Magpie // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:23 AM

Love seeing that 5-1 scoreline, reminds me of another game we won 5-1. :)
Realistically from our first 2 games I can see us getting 1 point.
We are capable of beating spurs but I think it being our first game at home the team won’t want to lose, 1-1 draw.

And for chelsea, on paper we should get beat, plus we have a Europa league game 2 days before. I think we’ll do well to come out with anything from Stamford bridge. 2-1 loss

  • 160 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:23 AM

I wouldn’t even know where to begin in attempting to guess who it might be. The list is too long :P

I know it has been a while. Things aren’t too bad fella just trying to cling on to my sanity while waiting for the new season to get started, the lack of activity on the transfer front doesn’t help either though I am quietly confident we’ll get the players we need. How have things been down your end lad?

It just seems like a good coming together tonight, that things seemed to just click. From the sounds of things Pards was experimenting a lot, or at the very least, trying things out in a competitive match that he has already tried out on the training ground.

I have seen Vuckic play the CM a few times and have been more than disappointed as I think he lacks the physicality to do it, and for a big lad that is a surprise so I am glad to hear he done well a little further up the pitch, maybe there is a chance for him yet ;)

I am really hoping that Amalfitano and Bigi can have an impact on the 1st team this season, as well as maybe seeing Abeid have a breakthrough season as I think that kid has some immense quality.

The cherry on the cake would be a few signings wouldn’t it? haha

  • 161 AMEOBI // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:24 AM

Good voice? Was classic haha. Pleased they scored wish they scored a few more was loving me dance haha what a tune!
What would you do with Bigi, amal, gosling and vuckic? Europa or cup games and maybe 10mins on some prem matches? All helps

  • 162 GeordieToon89 // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:27 AM

Ruddy – Yeah same here mate, rather stressful with the lack of news and unlimited amount of rumours (mostly rubbish).. but yes also agreed i’m confident in our management team from top to bottom that we’ll get the players we need

  • 163 jonny-intense // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:28 AM

1 or 2 through the door/over the line would be nice. I really hope we get a CB as we are desperately short if Good can’t step up straight away (which is likely). Perch just isn’t a CB but is very good as DM. Willo is a good stop gap but we need one more to come in to help with the extra fixtures.

A striker is a a must as well I feel, a young one who would be willing to pick up minutes here and there and the odd start (pity about Ranger really). When Shola went, it showed how short we are up front with AFCON or an injury.

Bigi looks like he can do a job for us and will only get better with Tiote & Cabaye helping him along.

Amalfitano too looks like he can make an impact and has played, and stood out, in many games this pre-season.

  • 164 AMEOBI // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:31 AM

Aye exactly, when I’ve seen Vuckic only liked one game think it was west brom, he played class on AM but once he’s further back he looks below average, now Pardew has found his position that helps.
I can easily see Abeid, Bigi and Vuckic having the breakthrough season, would like sammy and fergy to also but injuries get the better of the 2 of them. Can’t wait for the season to start, its all us geordies live for isn’t it a saturday afternoon :D
Gunna try pop to Cardiff this weekend like, would be a nice trip (again!)

  • 165 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:32 AM

Hopefully Ed can have somebody make the necessary tweaks, so that we can’t have no-marks fraudulently masquerading as such imperious identities as mine. Smearing my good name.

I wouldn’t mind if somebody was doing it to underlings and scrotes such as yourselves ( I don’t mean that…….. of course I do) :D

  • 166 jonny-intense // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:34 AM

I think Gosling may be who we play at first instance (as Guthrie was). We can see how Bigi does in PL, he may be well suited to the smaller teams. I think Abeid and Vuckic will get Europe and cup along with Bigi. I think they’ll play alongside Tiote/Cabs depending on the opposition. If it’s a relative minnow (in the group stages) it could be worthwhile giving them all a go with Tiote and Cabs on the bench just in case.

If we end up in Tel Aviv or something, I’d give Ranger a run out in the group. Pointless in dragging our only 3 strikers all the way to Israel if it’s not needed.

Yeah, we truly took over there goal celebration, for anything and everything lol!

  • 167 jonny-intense // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:37 AM

Now I’ve said it, I’d actually like to see Vuckic behind a striker with Abeid and Bigi holding and dictating. Could be the way to go in a few years time, you never know!

  • 168 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:39 AM

I have seen all the other pre-season games except this one and have been very impressed with both Bigi and Amalfitano. Bigi has been described as a mini Tiote but he does have a much better range of passing and while he does have a bit of a bite about him I think he could make it as a box-to-box midfielder or perhaps a deep lying playmaker but it sounds like Abeid was the deep lying play-maker when he came on.

Is anyone else as ridiculously excited about our youth prospects as I am? Bear in mind that we have the likes of Remi Streete, Adam Campbell, Paul Dummett etc to break into the fold in the next few seasons so we seem to be getting things right on that end.

I agree with you on needing a CB as we cannot count on Good to step in straight away but a 6 year deal for a 19 year old suggests someone in NUFC is supremely confident with this kid so I think he might make a mark in the 1st team this season.

For me the main upgrade is needed at RB, I do defend Simmo and thought he was actually very good for us last season but we need a better ball playing RB to take us to the next level.

In my view if we just get a RB and maybe a young striker then I would be happy.

Pards has never given me reason to doubt, him and GC have their heads screwed on and I think there is more than meets the eye to this apparent lack of activity. There is a lot more going on behind the scenes than we know.

  • 169 davybtoon // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:39 AM

I like to look at this match like this we jus battered a team 5-1 who Sunderland struggled against n got beat 1-0 jus last week haha

  • 170 AMEOBI // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:41 AM

Aye agree with Gosling, he could be a lot better than Guthrie was he’s got class positioning, good workrate, if Cabaye was to be injured at this stage you’d use Gosling at this point wouldn’t you? I like him like, just unlucky last season with injuries.
Aye the celebration was ours! Is it a darts tune? Don’t watch darts but I want that as my ringtone ;)
Is Ranger anywhere with our squad? It really would be pointless dragging our needed strikers for low easy games, but saying that we didn’t need a striker second half today, midfielders can do the job… Like a certain spain.

  • 171 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 8, 2012 at 12:42 AM

Ignore any references to scrotes, I would never use that word…mainly because it isn’t actually a word but a shortened version of the word scrotum…which is just crude.

Ruddy, I agree. The prospects we have coming through (in an already relatively young squad) are VERY exciting. Bigi and Amalfitano look like they will compliment what we have perfectly.

One thing I’ve noticed (it was Marv who brought it home to me when he controlled a ball running at full speed tonight) is that we are so much more confident with the ball now. Everyone has a good first touch and can pass out of a tight spot, generally. Bigi, Abeid, Vuckic, Amal are just adding to it now. When we are working it around the box for an opening, it is this what will stand us in good stead.

Pards, GC and the coaches know exactly what they’re doing, it seems.

Sheer entertainment, shame it wasn’t streamed… Oh gotta say David Craig got mocked like he was just behind us, was great! Anyone notice?

Yeah, they beat sunderland and boro looked toothless against them with their first team (+2 Brazilian trialists). My mate forced me to go to the boro match as he had no-one to go with. Possibly the most boring time I’ve had at a football match.

Then, we waltz in with a strong but, ostensibly not first team, squad and hammer them throughout. It’s looking good, I think the pre-season schedule has been perfect really. Euro experience and confidence builders.

Pards has said that he does want to build a team that plays the ball around on the deck and moves it around which is why Willo and Simmo are usually singled out for criticism as they are not the most capable with the ball at their feet.

In an interview with Curtis Good he did say that due to a Dutch coach he has been able to get used to playing with the ball at his feet which is a very positive sign.

Players like Raylor, Simmo, Willo and Perch, while they are very useful in terms of squad depth, we aren’t always going to play the most attractive football if they are in the side. Raylor can hit a dead ball but as soon as it is moving his technique isn’t quite the same.

The youngsters like Abeid and Vuckic have immense technical ability and it is great to see us cultivating that style of play with the other young signings we have made.

I just cannot wait for the season to start!

Yeah he got f****g hammered! Wish I’d taped SSN for his link ups to Victoria Park. SMB would have been clearly audible lol!

Ruddy, we can see that up front all we do is knock it about until it opens up, and usually it does. Then we have Cisse or Ba to lash it in.

As you say though, it is our “squad” players at the back who let us down in this department. Simmo is making more of an effort but they’ll all be phased out soon enough. They’ve done a job and I’m thankful but there’s no place for misplaced loyalty anymore. We are progressing well in stages and not upsetting the apple cart. If we got Debuchy, and Good turned out to be a capable, ball playing 3rd choice CB, we’d be laughing. Bassong came straight in, so might Good.

was at the match tonight lads, can tell you’s Marv and Amalfitano (who i doubted) were terrific, everthing Amalfitano done led to a chance at goal/corner/throw in. Marveaux oosed confidence and his touch and vision were absolutely SUBLIME (league 1 club or not). Curtis Good was absolutely solid, nothing went passed him when he came on, looks a real battler ala Steven Taylor. Simpson was fantastic with the fans in the first half, showed a real connection and love for us, appreciated that massively, will be sad to see him leave, be it this TW or next. Overall excellent game, by far the best we’ve played all pre-season, were in complete command, very pleasing to see. Apologies for not posting updates during the game as i see it was difficult for you’s to keep up.

Didn’t notice you eluded to a 4-6-0 ala Spain. We more or less ended up like that tonight, didn’t we!

Stealing a darts tune, hammering, David Craig (with audible SMBs on SSN surely) and a rousing there’s only one Sir Bobby were my crowd highlights.

Anyway gents, until another time. Botryococcus Braunii won’t research itself in the morrow!
