A happy Alan Pardew was interviewed immediately after the game last night at Victoria Park, and he was very pleased with the performance of many of the Newcastle players in the 5-1 demolition of Hartlepool.
Sylvain Marveaux – looked very good last night
And something we wanted to hear is that the manager says that Shola Ameobi, who came limping off just before half time, is OK.
Alan Pardew had this to say to say after the game, when asked about Shola:
“He’s fine and he was unplayable tonight , and when he’s like that (laughs) he gives them no end of problems.”
“But we had some great performance tonight and our wide players in particular, with Marveuax, Romain and Gabby all showing that little bit of class tonight.
“And it’s nice to see Hatem get half a game and he’s not far away.” “In his mind he thinks he’s ready but whether we think he’s ready for the first team we don’t know – but he’s missed a lot of pre-season.”
The Newcastle manager talked above about whether Hatem will be ready for the first game, and Alan said although he thinks Ben Arfa thinks he’s ready, Alan wasn’t sure.
But Alan stressed it was important to play the right teams in those three games in the first week, that starts a week come Saturday.
Newcastle play Tottenham at home on 18th August and then have the first leg of their qualifying tie for the Europa League group stages the following Thursday night, and Newcastle will know their opponents on Friday, when the draw is made.
Then Newcastle play at Chelsea two days later, so it’s clear that Newcastle will need to rest some first teamers in the game in Europe, and we have to hope we get a fairly easy draw in that game, but it’s a two legged tie that we must win.
It’s good to hear that Shola is OK, and he had a hand (or should that be foot?) in all of Newcastle’s first three goals last night, and looked very good, along with a number of other Newcastle players.

Comment #1Beattie apparantly he had a small knock im sure he’ll play against cardiff hopefully for the full 90 maybe he’s one of these lads who struggle with fitness during pre season remember him at the start of last season?
I doubt he’d be going to PSG he wanted to get out of ligue 1 for a new challenge and that sh1t about his missus is just a rehash of that story some mackem put out when we signed him!
As for man utd they have been linked with pretty much our entire starting 11

Comment #8Cheers TADS and I agree with your assessment of his wife.
When your husband is a millionaire footballer you can return to France whenever you want. Plus she isn’t the only ‘le wag’ in Newcastle at the moment.

Comment #12Bollance… 🙂 Don’t worry mate, we accept Shola lovers, it’s just the haters that get to us 🙂
Wingspan…Not really sure. Seemed a little odd at the time. Maybe’s it’s a practice thing, Pardew thinks Marv will be on the pitch more than Shola, so he needs to be up to speed?

Comment #17Marveaux is going to be a sensation this season no doubt!
Debuchy and Anita and it’s top 4 challenge here we come!
Does anyone else think (taking any bias out of the equation) that the Mackems and the Scousers may struggle this season?
The mackems are just a poor side and even oneil cannot polish a turd.
Liverpool are in transition but it takes years to change the ethos of a club and you cannot teach players to become a neat passing team. The quality simply has to be there. Rodgers inherited the team at Swansea and it’ll be a massive challenge to get them playing. Especially as they seem to be in a financial pickle.

Comment #22God, the cr-p that gets on here – Cabaye is fine. He’s has been ill and missed a few days training, but should be fine for Cardiff. He is a neighbour of mine and my wife and his converse regularly when exercising the dogs. She hasn’t seen Madame Cabaye for a few days, but kniws that she does goe home often to see her own mother who isn’t in the best of health.

Comment #23I was reading 4-4-2 magazine last night (cost an effin fiver by the way, rip off!) and it was previewing the new season.
According to them we will finish 7th and the Scousers in 6th.
Why do journos rate the Scousers so highly every season? Look at the team, its pants.
Bookies are offering odds of 20/1 for Cisse to be top scorer and 12/1 for Suarez! The worlds gone mad.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Liverpool finish about 12th. That’s my honest opinion without any hint of the hatred I feel towards them.

Comment #24Beattie…Agree on Marv, looks to be a real special player, cheers Liverpool 🙂
I also think both liverpool and the scum will struggle. Neither have shown anything to make me think otherwise and I know pre-season isn’t really a great way to judge teams, I just don’t see where they’re going to get enough results from.
Jesper…Have watched little to none of the Olympics tbh.

Cant see the mackems and there team of has beens doing fcuk all tbh
As for the bindippers i think the key point, as you said, is he inherited a team where all the ground work had been done and they had a stability about them for me it remains to be seen if hes good enough to intergrate a bew system in to a team who perform with huge expectations especially without the financial backing dogleash had i think “king kenny” may have done a fair bit of damage to the fools

Comment #28I see that Pardew is now saying 1 or 2 players in. I just wish he would shut up on transfers, as he says something different every week. What about the strong physical centre back, that he said was a priority? My own gut feeling is that if we can get Anita over the line, that might be it. Ashley won’t pay the necessary to get a top striker, and it is getting more difficult and more expensive the closer the season gets. Clubs won’t sell top players, strikers in particular, if they haven’t got time to sign replacements.

Comment #29Shola has looked great in all of the pre-season games. His first 20 minutes against Olympiakos were brilliant. He battered their back four and you could see them looking at each other thinking “who the fk is that!”.
Shola is a hugely respected player in the dressing room and he is NUFC through and through. He also knows that he will probably be mostly used in the Prem as an impact player and he knows he is bloody good at it. He also knows he is becoming a cult player with fans now and that is driving his confidence through the roof.
Big CFs of Shola’s build and playing style often have their best years in their late 20’s and early 30’s. That’s when their size and experience make them a right handful, especially for young defenders.
Make no mistake, Shola in his own way is a big player for us in more ways than one.

Comment #30Anita and Debuchy won’t be enough. We desperately need a quality centre-back and striker as well. If we get the 4 players in, we have a realistic chance of breaking into the top 4.

Comment #32I know Pardew would like to get some first team players over the line; who wouldn’t 😉
But there is a difference between wanting something and getting something.
My fear is we won’t get any first team players – Debuchy was the obvious one and that doesn’t look to happen.
We might sign a few more development players, but as for the first team we might have to brace ourselves for the worse 🙁

Comment #33@23 Beattie25. On paper, Liverpool have double the revenue that NUFC have, despite non qualification to the Champs League, and hence Suarez gets a new £120k a week contract, a contract that we could never afford unless our turnover increases dramatically. Luckily, they have wasted loads of money and have expensive contracts in place. I do agree with you that we will finish above them again this season!
