There were reports in Holland on Tuesday evening, that Newcastle are close to completing the deal for Ajax’ Dutch International midfielder come full-back Vurnon Anita.
Vurnon Anita – signing for Newcastle by Friday?
This may even be consistent with what we know about Anit’a current situation, since there were many reports that Newcastle were going back for Anita with an improved bid.
And there was even a report a few days ago, which has been repeated in many news sources, that Newcastle are going to Ajax with a double bid.
The reports suggest that Newcastle have gone in with a £10M bid to bring both Dutch Internationals Vurnon Anita and Gregory van der Weil to Tyneside.
There’s a report in Sky Tyne and Wear that says they have spoken with Dutch journalist Vanentijn Breissen in Holland, and he is saying Newcastle could sign the Dutchman by this Friday.
And there’s a report in De Telegraaf from the same reporter Breissen, and he says that Anita’s agent wants to see a deal done soon.
This is what he said:
“Definitely, a deal can take place in this week.” “Anita will not extend his contract. He’s a player coming from the youth of Ajax. They’re not the best paid players.”
“He also has a new manager in Mino Raiola in the last 10 days and he’s a guy who wants to sell players.”
Anita has been offered a new improved contract to stay at Ajax through 2016, but he still seems keen to try his chances in the Premier League and has talked in lyrical terms about Newcastle United several times this summer.
We have no idea if this report is true or not, but we do know that Newcastle need a top player like Anita in their ranks, and he would be a great acquisition for Newcastle United.
And Gregory van der Weil wouldn’t be too bad either, but we’d still prefer it if Newcastle can somehow bring Mathieu Debuchy in from Lille, and we think that deal still has a chance to be successful.
As far as Anita signing by Friday it could be possible, but we’d be surprised if it happens, although things are quiet on the Newcastle transfer front right now, and you have to believe Newcastle are working hard behind the scenes to bring some players through the door.
We need to get a top player on Tyneside soon, and we hope theses reports are true, but we’ve also said that a few times already this summer.
What do you think?

Comment #1He would be good to bring in but could hurt the development of who we already have (Bigi, Abeid etc.). If Pards/GC say this is who we need though, I’m not arguing.

Comment #3was at the match tonight lads, can tell you’s Marv and Amalfitano (who i doubted) were terrific, everthing Amalfitano done led to a chance at goal/corner/throw in. Marveaux oosed confidence and his touch and vision were absolutely SUBLIME (league 1 club or not). Curtis Good was absolutely solid, nothing went passed him when he came on, looks a real battler ala Steven Taylor. Simpson was fantastic with the fans in the first half, showed a real connection and love for us, appreciated that massively, will be sad to see him leave, be it this TW or next. Overall excellent game, by far the best we’ve played all pre-season, were in complete command, very pleasing to see. Apologies for not posting updates during the game as i see it was difficult for you’s to keep up.

Comment #6Marveaux and Amalfitano really were something else tonight. Hopefully, one more rung up the ladder on Saturday and then we’ll be ready to hit the ground running in the league.
Right, it is bed time now. Speak to you later, Gents.

Comment #7Kyo, If we play 442 with 2 midfielder he would probably get a lot of the cup games and euros in this, his first season in english football (if he comes).
It is a big, big season for Abeid and an extra person in front of him with Perch, Bigi, Guti (if he’s playing DM-ish this season) would clearly be a knock on his development.

Comment #8There would be more than enough games to be played this season that we could get Anita in as well as bring on the likes of Abeid and Bigi so I wouldn’t worry too much about harming their progress, if anything it should spur them on to fight other quality players for that spot in the team.

I agree with Ed, course it would.. It would knock them back by 1 surely? You’ve got Amalfitano, bigi, gosling, Abeid, who all can play in the midfield role.
So for me this would be a good signing, but at the same time would knock the youth a step.
But.. We have Europa so should be alright, any signings would be nice from now till the end

Comment #12I’d like Anita, or similar, but feel we probably have someone who will be better than him by his age (and well accustomed to the Prem) in Abeid. LB cover would be nice though so I suppose he could be very useful.

For what I know of Anita is he can play LB and DM, better as a DM.
Stats showed that they finished 5th 2 seasons ago when at LB, then 1st last season whilst playing DM.

Comment #15Pards may be looking at having Tiote and Anita behind Cabs for the league and Abeid and Bigi behind Vuckic for cups/smaller euro games. That is if he’s playing 433 and not having Ba and Cisse up front together.

Comment #22If Mr Carr says he’s good enough then great. However for me our priorities lie elsewhere. We just got away with 3 centre backs last year, we have only 3 strikers opposed to 5 last year, and right back needs sorting. Add to that that we may have 20+ more games this season.

Comment #25It would be great to really expand our squad but I can see no more than 2-3 players coming in if we’re lucky.
Looks like the new kids (Good, Amal, Bigi etc) are just gonna have to be up for it.

Comment #27I suppose I should be delighted at people on here taking their thought process somewhat closer to mine . However I find myself amazingly
agreeing with Beattie 25- let’s keep things in perspective. Last nights showing was good – but it was a pre season friendly. But a good confidence booster for team and fan alike. On confidence boosting it was good to see Obertan looking like a player. He joined us having had a mauling confidence wise from Ferguson and Pardew has been working on repairing the damage. We have seen promising glimpses – like away at Blackburn, but could this be his season . Let’s not sell him.Tavernier can pass, has shown he can play at a higher level – we would not miss Simpson and we would get around same fee for Simpson that we would for Obby. All of the signings to date looked
the part . All of our sides- at all levels are looking to play the same way which means a seamless transition from academy to Premiership . A passing fluid ball retention more 4-2-3-1 . Good looks more
Rio Ferdinand( younger version) and Colo than Saylor or Williamson.
Only pre season ……..

Comment #28So likely signing are shaping up to be:
Carroll
Anita
Van Der Wiel/Debuchy
Plus we should look at imo:
Cb for rotation/challenge first team
Plus other development defensive players.
young cf for development.

Comment #30I believe that playing Anita alongside Tiote in front of the back four would release Cabaye to be the base of a 4 man diamond.
Cabaye would then have Benny and Obertan/ Marvey playing the wider channels with either Ba or Cisse as the front man at the head of the diamond.
This would give us great balance going forward or in defence with Tiote & Anita in front of the back four, it would be like facing a wall lol. Bring it on.
