Good news form Alan Pardew yesterday, after Yohan Cabaye was not even on the bench on Tuesday night in the 5-1 demolition of Hartlepool United, that the Newcastle manager thinks Yohan will be just fine.
Yohan Cabaye at Euro 2012 – should be OK for Spurs game
The French International who starred for France in the Euro 2012 tournament and was probably their best player is expected to be fit for the first game at home to Tottenham in a short nine days time, and it seems he’s had some very slight injury problems to deal with.
Alan Pardew seemed confident he would be ready for the season starts as he had this to say yesterday to the local press:
“Cabaye’s OK. We’re just taking care of him.” “He’s had a couple of little issues on the injury front, but we think he’ll be OK.”
But it’s not so clear that his French team-mate Ben Arfa will be fit, even after he had a good run out in the second half at Hartlepool and looked good.
But with wide men Romain Amalfitano, Sylvain Marveaux and Gabby Obertan all looking good in pre-season, the Newcastle manager may want to give some of those players a chance at the start of the season.
It wouldn’t surprise us to see Obertan in the first team starting eleven against Tottenham, and for Romain and Sylvain to also see some playing time in that first game too.
And of course Newcastle have a game in Europe to play on the Thursday following the Spurs game, and that’s only two days before we travel to Stamford Bridge on the second Saturday of the season – so all those players will see significant action in that tough first week of the season.
And to further complicate things there are International friendlies next Wednesday night, just three days before the season starts, and this is what Alan said about that yesterday:
“We’ve have one day to quickly assemble the team. Tottenham are in the same position. We’ll have to hope we’ve done enough work.”
Newcastle will find out tomorrow who we have to play in the two legged tie to reach the group stages of the Europa League, so that’s something to look forward to.
