Anita Rejects Ajax Contract – Newcastle Make €8M Written Offer

9:59 am, Saturday, August 11th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 58 Comments

There are reports in Holland that Newcastle have indeed made a new bid for Ajax’ Dutch International midfielder Vurnon Anita, thought to be around €8M, which is about £6.5M.

There have been many reports over the last week that Newcastle were preparing a new bid,  but there is news in Holland today that the Ajax club have received a written offer from Newcastle for Anita.

The news is again in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, and the new news is that he has rejected Ajax’ new contract offer made to him earlier, and it seems he wants to leave the Dutch club.

Thanks to a number of our readers for pointing this news out to us.

There was news yesterday that Newcastle had indeed opened talks with Anita’s new agent, Italian Mino Raiola, and that Managing Director Derek Llambias and Secretary Lee Charnley were both in Holland trying to tie up the deal.

And the Magpies had informed Vurnon that he would not be one of the club’s top wage-earners if he signed on at Newcastle, but they would review his wages after six months on Tyneside.

The fact that he seems to have turned down Ajax’s new wage offer after being told that by Newcastle could be taken as a positive sign that he could sign on at Newcastle.

This could be good news for Newcastle fans, because some of the Ajax web-sites are even suggesting the bid could be accepted by Ajax – but we’ll have to wait and see.

It would be nice to have a breakthrough in the transfer market and Newcastle bring in their first senior signing of the summer.

What do you think?

It will be rejected and mike ashley will be to busy trying to buy rangers and we will end up with no 1 New

  • 3 seantoon // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:09 AM

I think it’s a very good thing this Rangers deal for Ashley. Just think any top player that comes through the ranks at Rangers we must surely have first option on buying them now

  • 4 HarryHarrison // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:09 AM

I really do not understand why we are trying to sign another defensive midfielder, ye he’d be good cover for Tiote during ACoN duty but not for 6.5 million, I myself have not seen too much of Anita but he must be good I suppose if we’re after him and Ajax are reluctant to let him go!

  • 5 HarryHarrison // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:11 AM

Also…the Debuchy saga has gone quiet, wheres that @Transfersage dude who gets inside info apparently??

  • 6 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:12 AM

    Harry
What make you think hes cover? We played our best football last season playing 2 cdms in a 433 giving cabaye a more attacking role

  • 7 dmac // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:14 AM

Llambias was at the uefa draw yesterday? Now unless that was in holland (could easily have been) then im not sure he was with Charnley.

Anita can play dm or lb and its that kind of versatility we need. Would be a good signing. Holding out for debuchy/VDW though

  • 8 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:15 AM

    SuperKrul
Out of intrest how much do you think %10 of a company thats is only worth £5 mil is gonna cost? Cos you seem to think it will take our whole transfer budget, i doubt ashley is using the clubs money somehow!
Also think he has very little to do with transfers other than signibg a cheque

  • 9 Spuggy // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:15 AM

    Harry

I agree, if we are signing 2-3 players an Anita is one of them, which of the CB, FB and CF positions are we missing out on. OF course another way to look at it is that Anita IS a FB (can cover LB) which is our weakest position. Still doesn’t make sense though, I have not heard anything legitimate from anyone about a CB, which along with CF is our weakest position IMO.

Since the De Jong and Carroll saga it’s all gone quiet on the CF front. I truly hope we do bring a CB and CF in this summer. FB and DCM would be nice but are not priorities.

  • 10 Slank // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:17 AM

    Harry & ToonDownSouth

I’m a bit puzzled why we are going for Anita as good as some people say, given our priorities.

Either Pardew is going to adopt a new formation which includes Anita alongside Tiote or Tiote is going to be sold or Anita is a replacement for Guthrie I don’t know.

Was llambais at the draw? The only place ive seen claim he was at the draw is jimmymagpie

  • 12 Transfer Sage // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:18 AM

I think this sets us in a strong position of he comes in.

He can play dm next to tiote. From what I have heard he will do that bette than Jonas and he is more advanced that bigi currently.

He also offers cover at left back.

But I remember santon saying pardew told him he would play rb this year. So a possibility he could be signed as a left back.

  • 13 PompeyJohn // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:18 AM

I don’t want to be too suspicious but if we get him I hope Tiote is not on his way!

  • 14 Dannyo // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:20 AM

Says he was at the draw in the Chronicle too.

  • 15 Transfer Sage // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:22 AM

I think Anita and a CB would be good business this summer.

A cf can wait until January as we won’t lose cisse and ba til then, presuming they beat the ivory coast in qualifying, which they are the under dogs for.

Maybe we don’t need a cb if Curtis good is ready. Sure pardew knows how far along his development he is and if he is ready as a squad/backup player

  • 16 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:23 AM

    Slank
Im pretty sure he’ll play alongside tiote, pards said he wants us to play a quicker passing game lots of short quick passes anita has got great techinical ability tiote also plays better along with someone besides him perch played great with him last season

  • 17 Slank // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:23 AM

    Superkrul @ 1

You are making the assumption that Mike Ashley is buying a stake in Glasgow Rangers for himself.

He is more likely to be doing it for Sports Direct in order to market and sell Rangers strip to their huge worldwide fan base which is substantially larger than Newcastle’s fan base.

  • 18 Transfer Sage // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:25 AM

    Tads

Think you are right with Ashley. He will consult with Carr, pardew and llambias and they will have a rough budget for fees and wages and then he will say spend no more than X on this player.

Then llambias and charnley will do some negotiating. Also if Ashley is needed pretty sure he will have a phone he can be contacted on, not like he has to be in the room.

Anyone know if the match televised today?

  • 20 jesperfuglsang // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:27 AM

It would be good news, but I cannot help to high expectations when you pay £6.5M for a player.

I know that is peanuts in the world of the bindippers and the likes, but he would be our expensive midfielder and defender since Colo ;)

What does people know about him? read an article about him that discribed him as the new Seedorf which of course is not bad at all :)

  • 25 Ian Toon // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:30 AM

Tim Krul went on loan to Falkirk for season 2007- 08 . During his time there he dislocated his shoulder and was sent off. He described his time there as invaluable in his development as a footballer. The crowd experience and the if it moves kick it style of play( only kidding ) would toughen the youngsters up. Vuckic might benefit from it – this is semi serious.

  • 26 Slank // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:31 AM

    Sage @ 18,

That’s my take on it too. Ashley sets the rules / budgets and conditions and then lets others do the work.

People forget that Ashley is a very busy man with Sports Direct which is currently the darling of the City.

I doubt very much whether he actually attends any negotiations. He will only get involved as you say by telephone.

  • 27 check the toastie // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:32 AM

Not happy with Fat Mikes investment in Rangers, he clearly thinks its the cheaper option to get real exposure in champions league football in the coming years rather than throwing a bit more of his money and some ambition into getting Newcastle their. Fat Shit is al business, business, business.

As for Anita, he wont be coming as we wont pay the going rate. If a player is seen as a real good youngster by Carr with plenty of potential then he should just be signed depending on Carrs and Pardews Valuation not Lamearses and Fat Mikes.

Will get a RB in too, and I reckon we will get someone, a big signing, on deadline day…

  • 31 clinath@ed // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Alan Campbell even going to Cardiff, tells me pardhew has accepted we won’t be getting a new CF, and it’s his way of making his disapproval public.

  • 32 Transfer Sage // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:34 AM

    Ian

Should we send an injury prone player to a physical league played on poor pitches? Would be a concern.

Maybe young Adam campbell could go, he is a tough little guy who would benefit from a bit of physicality and a big crowd.

Also of we help rangers out now it could pay off a few years down the line if we want to buy some youngsters from them.

  • 33 Beattie25 // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:34 AM

I swear some of you lot just come on here to start arguments!

Firstly the whole of European footba was together at the draw. Ajax and nufc were I the same building. Maybe del boy sliped them a bit of paper during the draw.

Also those of you speculating he could be a Tiote replacement are fcuking moronic and I don’t have the paitence nor the desire to tell your retarded minds how wrong you are.

All I will say is 4-3-3/4-5-1 and versaitillity you fcuking half wits.

    @Check
As a man claiming to keep to facts, u do make allot of assumptions about MA and DL.
Who cares if he invests in Rangers by sponsoring or buying stocks.
He’s only out to further exposure for SD.
It’s a clever move, and as a business man, MA does that all the time.
It’s a non issue for us as a football club.
Hell, if i had the money, i’d buy into Rangers. It’s a no brainer.

  • 39 clinath@ed // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:38 AM

  • 40 Transfer Sage // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:38 AM

    @check

Easy to spend somebody else’s money isn’t it.

Ashley might not be the most generous owner and makes a lot nd controversial decisions but he is responsible.

I would rather us never win a trophy and be here 100 years from now than have 5 glory years and go busy.

Obviously it would be ideal if we could get somewhere in the middle but beggers can’t be chooses.

Winning in football is now dominated 90% by clubs with huge financial backing. You get the odd exception but none of our previous owners won us anything even when they spent huge amounts.

  • 41 Beattie25 // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:39 AM

C’mon man. Rangers are never going to get in the champions leauge. Not for a long, long time.

Anita would be a fantastic signing for us; he could have as big an impact as dreamboat did when he arrived and also make said DB an even more effective creator than he already is.

    We can but hope!!

  • 46 Solaidback // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:46 AM

I think a few of you are gettin the wrong end of the stick with regards Ashley & Newco Rangers…. he’s not buying a stake in the club, Sports Direct are buying the rights to sell their kit in the SD shops around the UK & Europe…. Green has come out & said it will bring in around £10m in merchandise sales for Newco Rangers yeah… this doesn’t mean Ashleyis spending money on Rangers instead of buying players for the Toon, it’s a Sports Direct transaction, which if you don’t already know, Ashley maybe the major share holder & founder but he’s only the Vice chairman & board member, he doesn’t decide what the company does & what they spend there millions on, thats a board decision & has nothing at all to do with Newcastle United & Ashleys own money…

  • 47 cestriasteve // Aug 11, 2012 at 10:47 AM

This would allow us to play 4-5-1 giving Cabaye much more creativity in midfield with Tiote and Anita as the defensive midfield.

  • 48 Ian Toon // Aug 11, 2012 at 11:03 AM

Ibiza- How are you? I am beginning to think your a figment of my
    imagination.
Monster Mag- your confusing fact with opinion. The transfer market
is no different from any other market. It’s subject to the same peaks and troughs . My use of Henderson as an example was to show the vagaries that exist. A manager can always rationalise both at the time of purchase and subsequently eg English young potential, need someone to put better crosses in/ part of transformation to a different style./need more experience etc etc. the price in buying and selling in any market is what the market will bare. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king- English therefore pay the premium. You can ask a high price for a property which is way out of line with the market for a comparable dwelling but still sell it because one person wanted to buy and would pay the going price. Hindsight is a wonderful thing
but time and the market moves on. I understand ( I think!) Ashley’s market thinkingc. On acquisition he was on a steep learning curve and he made costly mistakes trusting Wise and others. He was badly burned by what Allardyce ( who was responsible for our relegation – another story) left behind. Ageing players on long term contracts and a ludicrously high wage bill(smith ,geremi etc) who could not be offloaded . Wise also screwed us because he did not research likely buys properly. The current practice is absolutely rigorous before a player is on board to the extent of how he works at getting fit once injured. Tamas Kadar showed apparently a lack of determination in
pushing to get into the Premiership. In short Pardew /Carr have to sell
the deal along Ashley determined lines. Just like presenting a business plan to your financier . This from a man who when he bought Nufc got his people to do a quick and dirty rather than formal due diligence.

Transfer Sage – Fair point on quality of pitches – wouldn’t always be playing on good surfaces. Our reserves play a number of behind closed doors games against Scottish sides though. Campbell is quite
wiry but quick and tricky. Don’t see similarity with a young Rooney – apart from age.

  • 51 fog on the tyne // Aug 11, 2012 at 11:13 AM

Ffs why is everyone saying ashley more concerned with rangers and that he’ll care more about them!
Its a commercial deal allowing his company to sell rangers tops and merchandise, it has nothing at all to do with nifc and all the deludes on here thinking we’ll be sending our young’ns up there on loan are lacking upstairs.
Whatever MA does with his personal money is his perogative and nothing to do with any one. I for one is very grateful for what he has done for my club, ableit after a turmoilutous start. I’m not even sure he is funding this rangers deal personally, and pretty sure sports direct will be. For all those numb nuts amongst you lot, sports direct is a FTSE 100 listed company, which means there is other shareholders other than MA and he only ownes roughly 65% of the company. Also he has a chief exec whom i’m pretty sure would have a major say on commercial deals SD would undertake and endorse.

So FFS get off the poor blokes back and let him stick to what he does best , which strangely enough not many predecessors have done a very good job of, and carry on rebuilding our club in to a major force again

    RANT OVER

Is there the possibility that Anita is being bought to play left back as he has done for Ajax? That way Santon could play right back and if we then manage to get debuchy, we have santon and debuchy full backs and Anita to play at full back and in midfield as well. Anita can fill in and adapt wherever he is needed depending on if we get debuchy or not.

  • 55 Premiership Manager // Aug 11, 2012 at 12:13 PM

Am I one of the few people who don’t think we need Anita?

One of the reasons we did so well last year is that we had a settled team with fringe players who were happy to sit on the bench and who stepped up to the mark when they were required.

I do believe that we need to strengthen the team however if we play up the middle without width or players who can cross the ball it can be very easy for the opposition to close us down and stem the flow to the front line.

Cisse and particularly Ba will need crosses if we are to get the best out of them and to be honest if you want a technical, defensive midfielder who can step up to the mark and play up the middle why not buy a defender and put Santon in midfield as his distribution, passing and vision are all under used at RB. He can also play down the wing and I for one would like to see him given the opportunity to play in a more attacking role.

Come the AN we will have a big gap to fill and although HBA can play up front who will be our main striker? Shola? Two games in succession will see him huffing and puffing and only making runs when he has to.

We do have cover in most positions but up front we are short and we could also do with a CB who can double up at LB/RB.

For me Sakho would fit the bill and I wouldn’t be surprised if we sign Carroll at the last minute.

We don’t need another midfielder as we already have too many which may be detremental to development of the fringe players coming through.

  • 56 stunna // Aug 11, 2012 at 1:42 PM

We need to add depth at CM, FB, CB and forward. Anita can play CM and FB. Assuming he’s good, it sounds like a good fit. He can play alongside Tiote in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 allowing Cabaye to push up. Jonas isn’t a proper CM, Guthrie is gone and Vuckic, Adeid, Gosling & Bigi are young.
