Obertan, Shola Ameobi and Marveaux All Start At Cardiff

Gabby Obertan starts the game at Cardiff City this afternoon, after a bright substitute performance at Hartlepool United on Tuesday night when he scored a terrific goal.

Surprisingly neither of Newcastle’s top Senegal strikers Papiss Cisse or Demba Ba is included, even on the bench, and Frenchmen Yohan Cabaye and Ben Arfa are also missing from the line up.

That has to make it doubtful that Yohan will be able to play against Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday afternoon, in Newcastle’s first game of the season.

The defense of Krul, Simpson, Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Davide Santon could be the one that starts next Saturday too.

Ryan Taylor will play on the right wing with Sylvain Marveaux on the left, and it seems that Gabby will play up front partnering Shola Ameobi as a striker.

It seems that Argentine Jonas Gutierrez could be in central midfield alongside Cheick Tiote.

As expected, 17 year-old Adam Campbell, the former Wallsend Boys Club player, is on the bench and it’s very likely he will come on sometime in the second half,  for his very first taste of first team football.

Cardiff City will also be wearing their all new red kit, which has caused some annoyance with Cardiff City fans – however their away strip is all blue, and we suppose they’ll continue to be nicknamed The Bluebirds.

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Steven Taylor, Davide Santon; Ryan Taylor, Cheick Tiote, Sylvain Marveaux, Jonas Gutierrez; Gabriel Obertan, Shola Ameobi
Substitutes: Steve Harper, James Perch, Mike Williamson, Romain Amalfitano, Adam Campbell, Haris Vuckic, Dan Gosling

Where did you pull that from Kris?

Team isn’t to bad against a championship team.

Pards must think Cisse and Ba are match fit and Cabs and Benny aren’t worth this risk.

All the preseason games, apart from fitness, have been about one thing. Developing and understand the quality of our B team for Europa and the Cups.

A good tactic from Pardew. Now doubt training has been hard for the first team, after all we know they can perform. This is about bringing on the underbelly of the club, and develop they have.

Every quality side in the PL has pace all around the pitch, we have Obertan, this needs to be addressed for me, what the fcuk have Ben Arfa and Cabaye been doing the last month, they have been getting paid by the way, hope they are looking sharp in training and Pardiola is just keeping them back.

If that is a 4-4-1-1 then that is one experimentally weird formation 🙂

I think (certainly in the case of Cabaye) the professionalism of modern day footballers means that fitness is more important than match sharpness and seen as Cabs is so professional Pards thinks he is ready to go.

Team for next week – Krul – Perch – Saylor – Collo – Santon – Tiote – Gutti – Benny – Cabaye – Marveaux – Cisse. playing 4231 with Gutti and Cheick holding, Benny Cabs and Marveaux supplying the bullets for the most lethal striker in Europe, Pretty decent team eh.

Would love Anita for Gutti and Debuchy for Perchy but it aint gunna happen.
Our best footballing side for me and actually better than Spurs.

ben arfa is short on match fitness so he doest get any minutes aganst cardiff… Makes sense -_-

Not been pesamistic but chalk down a loss/draw for next week
Cisse has barely played press season
Cabaye+ben arfa probably wont make it, and if i learned anything pre-season its that without those 2 we have no creativity
    Spurs always start well

I hope i’m wrong but cant see it going well against spurs with this line up (and ba+cisse will be the only change if they are fit…)

Tads… I dont remember cabaye struggling last season? Fair enough against arsenal as we didnt have the ball and against sunderland we didnt have that much of the play either. After that he was immense especially against villa.

hope so, and im certainly no aspiring footballer or sports academic so really cant comment on fitness levels but you always hear them banging on about match fitness and getting minutes under their belts, iv always thought though playing matches in training would surely have the same effect

Remember Cabaye and Arfa have had a pre pre season with france and Cisse and Ba have featured heavily in preseaon so far. It’s about getting the rest fit and ready.

My biggest concern is if Cabaye is unfit who replaces him? Do we have a top quality playmaker backup? Gosling? The others ar emore like wingers, although I’d love to see Marveaux in that role.

Spurs always start well? I seem to reneged them getting stuffed 5-1 by Man Citeh last season.

Anyway don’t fret my Geordie brother because in Pards we trust. If he says theyll be ready, they’ll be ready.

If not then Anita, Remy and Debuchy will play.

Its not like players are smoking crack when they’re not playing they all will have been training hard the past couple of weeks. Fitness wont be a problem barring cabaye and maybe ben arfa.

It’s frightening to think what our first 11 would be capable of with an in form Cisse for a full season, Ba getting back to form and the additions of Debuchy, Douglas, Anita and someone like Remy.

He got pulled off after 60 In more than a couple of occasions and even said himself he was struggling to adapt to the pace of the english league, as i said hopefully thats all it was last season cos hes only had about 20 mins of pre season but hopefully his fitness levels are right up

Everybody is taking this too negatively.

Every team plays youth and reserves in the first teams Pre season. When have you ever seen first teamers play every minute of every game for any team.

I think Cabs is the type of player that is always match fit. He hasnt got the English mentality of a month off means a month off.

We know Beent has been training hard during his holiday and Cabs will be the same. If they turned up to training and looked mega sharp then Pards won’t risk them against Cardiff.

    Simple as that.

Or they’re on their way to Arsenal.

It was an awfully short 2 game struggle then :). Tbh though our 1st two matches were very tougth although i probs wouldnt start him against spurs. Pards should look for an alternative solution. Midfields a hard place to play and if he’s not up to speed then i wouldnt risk him.

Imagine if Chelski got Hazard for 30, the scum got Fletcher for 15, Scousers got Allen for 15 and we got Anita and Remy for 15.

Ha ha ha ha that would make me die with laughter.

I think nufc this season have played their hand very cleverly. See what everyone does, let them spend their money and then take whatevers left.

That medication is doing well for you.
No chance of signing Remy and Anita for £15m.
    £20m maybe.

AVB has probably already got a doll with Carr’s name on it an pins coming out of it.
Spuds are desperate for a striker so I reckon Remy might well go there
