Really great news is coming through that Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Ajax for their Dutch midfielder Vurnon Anita.
Vurnon Anita – fee has been agreed with Ajax
The next step is to agree terms with Vurnon, and that’s not exactly a given, but it seems that Newcastle are close to getting one of their top targets through the door – at last.
Ajax manager Frank de Boer confirmed today that the Amsterdam club have struck a deal with Newcastle United for the transfer of 23 year-old Vurnon Anita, who can play in a number of different positions.
Once terms have been agreed with the player, Anita will travel to Newcastle for his medical, and it could well be that if Cheick Tiote is not available for the game against Tottenham next Saturday afternoon, then Vurnon will play in that position.
He has played both in defensive midfield and left back for Ajax over the last two seasons, and has been one of their best players.
Vurnon stands 5’6″ tall and he made his debut for Ajax in March of 2006, in a 3–2 away loss against FC Groningen, and since then he has made 137 appearances for the Dutch Champions with 7 goals.
We’re not sure how much the fee is – but it’s likely it’s around £7M, and Vurnon will be a fantastic signing for Newcastle.
We wonder if Newcastle’s dismal showing yesterday at Cardiff had anything to do with this?

Just a thought.

Comment #86I think most are in the agreement that 4231 is the best formation to play and with Anita joining us it makes us even more solid and allows Cabaye to play in a more influential forward role. I believe Cabaye will pick up close to double figures in goals this season if pushed forward and Anita is just like Tiote but can play a decent final ball. With two holding it also allows our attacking minded wing backs to get forward….freeing up space for HBA and Marv to get in behind.
Now we need a CB cause Willo is not really up to it and Debuchy! We also need a striker however that can maybe wait until Jan (although the Jan window is a horrendous time).

God, I don’t think Shola can start games! I think in the EL, Ba with be the front man. After all, Pardew did say that he promised Ba he would be play center forward 90% of the time.
We’ll definitely play 4-4-2 quite a bit this year. Ba drops so deep that it’s more of a 4-4-1-1 anyway.

Alderweireld was at fault for the first goal, but both goals have come from Altidore taking up and capitalising on the space VDW has vacated by pushing on, which is clearly his instinct.

Comment #96It’s no secret how much I rate this guy. Will be an excellent signing for us if we can get him ‘over the line.’, Which lets be honest should be called the Horizon because it seems so blooming far away
We could then have one of the best midfields in the league if he adapts well in Cabaye, Tiote and Anita.
I sad a few days back that I think Anita would be the one signing to impact the team the most. Bringing about a better midfield, will help us keep possession giving better build up play for us as well as protecting our back 4 a bit more.
And in allowing Cabaye to push forward, which Anita can also do. we will now hopefully have more dimension to attack from instead of the at times one dimensional approach of 1 flank last season.

Poor Guy… all the more reason not to tell him about Alderwield.
@JackButler,
You never know, with Charlie Adam in their team, they could end up injuring all of the opposing team’s players.

Comment #101How about AZ’s Jozy Altidore? Scored 2 great goals in 10 minutes vs Ajax, seems to be very fast and strong striker who knows where the net is. Surely cheaper option than Loic Remy?

Comment #102Allowing Cabaye to play in a more advanced role is the massive upside of the Anita deal, he created more goals than any other player during Lille title winning season and it is a massive waste of his abilities to have him sitting deep

Comment #104I don’t think the 4-2-3-1 is going to happen to be honest, Pardew isn’t going to leave Ba or Cisse on the bench most games, I believe we’re going to be playing 2 up-front with Ben Arfa behind them or maybe right-mid in a 4-4-2; I think 4-3-1-2 seems more likely with the full-backs pushing up to give width.

Shola will have a hatrick by the time he needs subbed so we’ll be fine. :D. He’s scored 12 goals in Europe, more than the mackems. 🙂
I hope we don’t play 4-4-2 much this year, we looked so disjointed using it last year, there was no movement and balance in the team, maybe use it for a few games but hopefully not a lot.

Comment #111Guys, we’re not going to play random formations that we’ve never tested, are we?
In pre season we’ve played 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1, so that’s what we’re likely to play all year.

I’m thinking 4-3-1-2 with Cabaye, Tiote and Anita in the centre with Ben Arfa just in front supporting Ba and Cisse, I don’t see Cabaye as a wide player
