Newcastle Linked With Striker – Are Magpies Still After One?

There have been no reports at all for a couple of weeks on any Newcastle interest in Marseilles 25 year-old striker Loic Remy, who has been told he can leave his club this summer, and Tottenham apparently are no longer interested.

Ola Toivonen – are Newcastle interested?

There’s  a report in The Sun today that Newcastle may have rekindled their interest in PSV Eindhoven’s Swedish striker Ola Toivonen, who turned 26 last month, and it’s not the first time this summer Newcastle have been linked with this player.

But this could be stale and old news, and we’d be surprised if there is too much truth in the report.

Newcastle still need to bring in another striker this summer, so that we have four experienced strikers which include Papiss Cisee, Demba Ba and Shola Ameobi, and there’s also been no word at all on any new moves for former striker Andy Carroll.

In fact Andy seems to have settled at Liverpool and new manager Brendan Rodgers has also praised the Gateshead born striker for his attitude at the club. West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has said Andy will not join the Hammers, but we don’t know if that means Newcastle are in the driver’s seat.

The one good thing to come out of the game yesterday at Cardiff City was the excellent cameo appearance of Newcastle youngster Adam Campbell, who looked more than lively when he came on after 84 minutes.

Adam created chances for himself and others, and was even brought down in the penalty area for what looked like a penalty – but it wasn’t given.

But youngsters like Adam are only a plus, and Newcastle still need to fill out their striker options with one more striker coming through the door in the next three weeks.

And the performance of what looked to be our top five players in defense was not good in that first 30 minutes yesterday, and hopefully that will hasten new defenders coming through the door too.

It’s now almost half way through August, and if anybody had said back in May that Newcastle would not have had a major player in by now, we would have asked what they had been smoking.

But that’s the position Newcastle are in at the moment and the transfer window closes three weeks tomorrow.

Of all the strikers we have been linked with this summer, it seems that Loic Remy would be the best option – what do you think?

    repost from previous thread

As I said yesterday about the defeat, it’s the cunning silver foxes mind games at work again. He’s going to beat AVB’s Spurs singlehanded using his jedi mind tricks.

We just got beat Ahh heck I can’t remember what score it was its too early. Anyway, we just got heavily beaten from a lower team, our two key midfielders aren’t “match fit” and now ba cisse tiote colo are injured aswell.
I’m sorry, but we simply aren’t that unlucky.
As far as I see it, there are three scenarios
That will play out on Saturday.
    1. Spurs let their guard down, think we have a weaker side and BOOM fully fit starting 11 to tear them to shreds.
    2. We start a weaker side (no cabaye ben arfa cisse)!but contain them defensively, roll by half time and BOOM talk about impact sun and we tear them to pieces.
    3. Our players genuinely are injured and Ben Arfa and cabaye aren’t fit an we wil more than likely get torn to pieces.

It’s too early on this beautiful grey cold Newcastle morning to be filled with pessimism so I’m officialy ruling out number 3.
That leaves us with a fully fit squad, who don’t have to play international games 3
Days before the spuds game, ready and
    Raring to go.

I have seen the future and dan gosling will score the winner for us… It has been posted and so it shall be done.

Ibiza we have already got 3 top young uns in that im sure will break into the first team this year, all i want is a couple of defenders and i would be happy we have enough cover for the rest.

also, Danny Simpson will deliberatly score an excellent own goal, then turn to the camera, give the middle finger then fly down to france in a swap deal for debuchy.
My god, i think my brains broken.

I doubt we are in as bad a shape as we claim, of we are we can kiss goodbye to getting anything from the Spurs game. Just cannot see us missing 4 of our best players.

I’m also gobsmacked we haven’t brought in at least a full back by now.

Why all the doom and gloom just because we lost a friendly against Cardiff? Did the world end when I wasn’t looking; Did 6 players get stretchered off with season ending injuries?

If we can add one or even two GOOD players, in the right places, we dont need World Class (it would be nice!!) we will be a much stronger unit than at the end of last season – where is the problem??

The Space Station whizzing past last night was very impressive!!

Have some faith, we will sign the players we need. Can’t believe how some people worry so much. 3 players and it wouldn’t surprise me if AC was one.

A combination of Ramadan and Euro-hangover is to blame for the loss.

Pre-season has been tricky because of tired international players and no new signings hasn’t helped.

Are we prepared for Spurs? I don’t think so, we need another pre-season! Our passing has been so poor.

Ed, Of all the strikers Carroll is the best option.
He desperately wants to play for us.

I just learnt that Newcastle United has spent the least among the 20 clubs in the top English division. I am not suggesting that the more we spend, the more success we will have. However, I do think we need more depth and quality in our team. For one, I feel we need a solid centre back as I do not think Steven Taylor can last the whole season given that we have European fixtures now. I am a fan of Danny Simpson, however I do think it is necessary to bring in Debuchy as he will give us more attacking options down the right flank. Simpson can definitely hold his own in the league but he lasts the powerful bursts to go up and cause a threat. Lastly, I feel that we need cover when Ba and Cisse goes for the AFC as Shola Ameobi is simply not the prolific striker that hoped for. In essence, lets sign a CB, RB and a promising striker. If we have more funds, we can also do with a ball playing midfielder.

This preseason hasn’t been great in getting us ready for Spurs IMO.

No first team additions, team hasn’t looked that fluid or creative against anyone other than Hartlepool, shows how much we rely on Cabaye and HBA, first choice defence gets ripped apart a week before Spurs, by the time the last friendly is played all issues should have be ironed out prior, have hardly seen Cabaye or HBA,.

I hope we are ready for next week and spank spurs, but to blindly say the friendlies don’t count for anything other than fitness and blindly hoping everything will be fine next week and our defence will have remembered how to play against bale, Lennon, vdv etc is v optimistic.

Am not a neggar, just able to see things without being blinded with bias.
