We had said yesterday after the heavy defeat at Cardiff city that the one piece of good news coming out of the game was the great performance of 17 year-old Adam Campbell, who looked more than quick and set up two chances for Newcastle with two great through balls.
Adam Campbell – in action last season
And the 17 year-old was also brought down for what looked like a stone cold penalty.
Adam didn’t come into the game until the 84th minute, and if that’s an example of what Adam can do in the first team, he could even make his breakthrough this season at Newcastle.
He’s not blessed with too much height, but he gives Newcastle something completely different up front with his speed, passing ability and his knack of putting the ball in the back of the net.
Alan Pardew was asked right at the end of the nufcTV interview immediately after the game by Rob Scanlon yesterday, to comment on the play of Adam Campbell and this is what the Newcastle manager said:
“Well, we’ve got high hopes for Adam and obviously he came and deserved that in the summer after being Player of the Tournament in the two little tournaments.”
“He’s going to be a great player for us .” “He was the bright news today and if you want to say what was the positive that was Adam Campbell today.”
We put out a report today and wondered if Newcastle were still intending to bring in another striker this summer, and we hope the answer to that question is yes.
But if we don’t manage to do that, this lad could play the part of an impact sub, and it would be good (very good) to get a video out of the last six minutes of the game yesterday, where this lad looked great.
And watching that short video may even lift the spirits of Newcastle fans today, after a completely unexpected heavy defeat in South Wales yesterday.

Comment #1Again, i repeat, I was chuffed to hear that Adam was going with the squad yesterday.
And the fact that he turned the tide coming on is even better.
He’s a future Geordie Legend in the making.

Comment #2Always great to see a local lad coming through the system and making it into the first team. Hope he keeps up the progress and fulfils his obvious potential at SJP!!

Comment #3We have some excellent future prospects now – it’s been a clear strategy this window. I think Campbell will be promoted to the reserve side soon to join Bigi, Fitano and Good.
Just a shame we can’t land the 3 main targets, I can’t take another midnight finish on Sky Sports News, with the prospect of losing one of our stars with no time to replace them.

it’s comments like yours to hatem’s better than messi that show what a know-it-all you think you are when it comes to footy.
why make a dig at someone who disagrees with you? I’m sorry, but this preseason has been anything but exemplary. we’ve played with zero cohesion and as to the team pards will pick, well, that’s anyone’s guess. we’ve picked up zero first-teamers while losing three.
fair play, you’re an optimist. why berate others for not joining in your blind allegiance?

Comment #5My god DannyO, a legend in the making????? Give him a chance before he’s the next superstar. This is exactly what was said when Brayson and Chopra were young players and they both had better scoring records than Campbell, and look what happened to them.
Just don’t big him up too much after 6 minutes of a friendly, let him become whatever he becomes.

Comment #6I agree matty, some people are blinded by ignorance and bias and can’t see things in a balanced way.
Our first choice back 5 were ripped apart by Cardiff, this is after the whole preseason to get things organised again. Add to that bale, Lennon, vdv etc for next week and everything isn’t rosy. Add to that 3 players in Ramadan which may not end by spurs depending on the moon who will be drastically crapper due to lack of food and water, Tiote and colo nursing injuries, Cabaye and HBA hardly being seen, no new first team signings, our attack lacking severely in creativity and fluidity all preseason apart from against a div 1 opponent.
I hope everything comes good this weekend, but I am realistic enough to be able to see that this preseason hasn’t been as great as most imply. This doesn’t make me a neggar or whatever u call it, just means I’m not blinded by bias to my club that I can’t see both sides of the situation.

Comment #7Spoke to my medic friend at 10 o’clock and he told me the following – Tiote and Colo, they won’t know until both players report later this morning to be assessed, but he did admit that Tiote could be 2/3 weeks IF there is a tear in the calf, so it’s fingers crossed that there isn’t. Ba and Cisse – both will be fit for Spurs if all goes well this week, as their non-appearance yesterday was a precaution. Cabaye and Ben Arfa will be manager’s call, because neither are match fit, and if they play at all, Pardew will have to decide whether they start or are on the bench. Cabaye is the more doubtful of the two. Said that Pardew went ape-sh-t at the players after the Cardiff debacle, mainly accusing them of a lack of application. He wouldn’t even confide in the players when 1 or 2 asked him about incomings, just said ” Don’t know, it’s out of my hands.”

Comment #9Just a thought – most of you will remember that Ba was very slow to get up to speed last season, which was put down to his fasting for Ramadan. This presents a problem for the fitness staff, because they certainly don’t want to try and interfere with anybody’s religious beliefs. Cabaye is proving a bit of a worry, because apart from carrying a niggly little injury, he’s had a bit of a virus, and has publicly complained of feeling ‘knackered’, despite being treated gently since he returnrd from holiday. Of course, all this should give Pardew ammiunition in his arguments with the dreadful duo about reinforcements, but he knows as well as anyone that they won’t listen!

Comment #10Iff you all remember the Pre-Season we had last season we were Relegation fodder according to the Press especially after the humiliation against Leighton Orient. As allready mentioned Ba started slowly as he was in Ramadan and we will probabley have the same problems this season with him and Cisse. With the injuries we allready have our Squad is no where near as strong as it needs to be especially with a European campaign as well. We are 4/5 first team players short of where we need to be. If the board can’t see that they are not as ambicious as they say they are. We will struggle to finish top 5 with the squad we have with the extra burden of Europe on the agenda as well.

Comment #11Wonder what happened to “players signed by friday”?
I still think we will get a couple in by the window closing but Im slightly concerned we have let Best and Lovaman go (who got us goals when Ba wasnt firing due to Ramadan last season).
Where are the goals coming from for the first few weeks of the season?
Ba and Cisse could be off form, Shola is Shola and we have no-one else in the first team to contribute.
We could be in a position where we are out of Europe and be bottom of the league with no points from the first 2 games.
I dont think we will, but we need reinforcements and we need them to hit the ground running when they come in.
I know we havent lost anyone from our 1st team yet but we also have a few 1st teamers who are carrying niggles or are not match fit.
Time will tell though, I just hope Fatty and owlface are back to do some business for us now the Olympics are over in Landan.
