Vurnon Anita, the Holland International, is very close to joining Newcastle United, and he has given a number of interviews, telling people that his understanding of the fee is €8.5M, which translates to about £6.6M, and that’s still a great deal for Newcastle for what is a top player – but he has also to agree a wage deal.
Vurnon Anita – very close to signing for Newcastle
So if that fee is accurate, Newcastle have paid just over half of what Manchester City have just paid out for Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell.
You know Anita is good when his manager Frank de Boer tried to keep him at the club, and he was offered a new deal but he turned that down, but we still have to understand that no agreements have been reached with the player on compensation, but that seems the only thing that can now get in the way of his moving to Newcastle.
Anita had this to say to Eredivisie Live this morning:
“The clubs have a deal, I think €8.5M. Now I have to reach an agreement with Newcastle. I have an offer, but I can’t say more about this.” “The clubs have agreed a fee, but I have not,” “I’m still an Ajax player. I think it will be finished soon, but you never know how it will go.
“I have played for Ajax for 13 years, it has been a great time and I am grateful to Ajax.” “Now it’s up to me. But first I want to talk with the manager of Newcastle United before taking a decision.” “The whole picture has to be right for me.”
Ajax manager Frank de Boer also said he was disappointed with the sale of one of his key players at the very beginning of the season:
“The clubs are almost finished with the deal.” “Of course I believe that is very bad. Vurnon is a really important player for us. The season has just started, but there are some things you can’t do anything about.”
Vurnon played what could be his last game for Ajax yesterday in the 2-2 draw against AZ Alkmaar and Anita had this to say to De Telegraaf today:
“The wage I had in mind was above the new salary ceiling.”
It is expected that Vurnon will sign a five year deal at Newcastle, and as reported yesterday, the Tyneside club will review his wages after six months, and if he’s been a revelation on Tyneside, the club could give him more money, but he will have to earn it wearing those famous black and white stripes.
That seems fine with us.

Comment #42Let’s get him through the door.
As for this nonsense about Mike Ashley buying into Ranger s it is Sports Direct not him and Sports Direct are a Ftse 100 company. As for 9 players going there that is pie in the sky. They play in the Jocko 3rd Division which is such a poor standard none of our players would benefit by going there on loan.

Top domestic tax rates :-
England 55.2%
Holland 59.7%
Anita would pay less % tax in England.

It does look like I’ve overreacted! Thanks for the clarification! On a seperate note, what do you think our team will be for the cups and Europa! I’m hoping it will be a combination of 2011/12 and 2010/11 with Caroll reclaiming his spot upfront:
———————–Harper————————
Perch———Saylor——-Colo———Raylor
—————–Anita——–Bigi——————
Obertan———–Marveaux————-Jonas
————————Caroll————————
Subs:
Krul, Ferguson, Willo, Tiote, Cabaye, Shola, Ba
What do you guys think? I think Europa is nearly as important as the PL, so I think we should have our first team, minus a few key players. What would your teams for Europa and the cups be?

Comment #45Bloody..Obviously a lot depends on who we bring in. My problem with your CB pairing is we cannot expect both STaylor and Colo to manage the chunk of the PL games as well as Europa.
I think a lot will depend on who the opposition is in both the PL and EL. If a game is perceived as “easier” then we should use that as a chance to rest some key players.
For me, PL has to be priority. We need to qualify for Europe again next season. That for me is the number one goal for this season.

Comment #46LooneyToon41 that’s the point i was making and our footballers pay less than the 30% rate as they invest large parts into pension schemes that are tax free.

Comment #50From the Sky Sports report it certainly did seem that it was Ajax’s wage cap which was the problem. He hasn’t negotiated with Newcastle yet.

Comment #51Do you guys think the incentive of having a pay rise after the first 6 months of your contract are helping players adapt and settle quicker in a new country? Obviously we are getting players from leagues which are most suited to the EPL but I can’t off the top of my head think off the top of my head a player who has taken more than one game to settle. Maybe it’s just Pardew and the coaching staff being awesome as per.

Comment #52Ibiza – is annoyingly right yet again(. You could imagine him at school as a teacher’s pet ) NB I don’t have aSmiley face to show.
I refer of course to Ajax offering Anita a contract until 2016- 2017 but the wages he was seeking were above their( ie Ajax’s ) new salary ceiling. They thought if they exceeded it this soon then in would open the flood gates with other players. I will not be responding to- Jack Butler’s-. Questioning of me on this because I nearly lost the will to live last night. I thought you could only find clowns in the circus. “Now we’re signing Anita we should drop Santon to the reserves so he can gain more experience”. Jack- I know you have your own initiation ceremony for relatively new posters but chose someone else. There is room for everyone to chat about the if’s and but’s of pre season.
