Local lad Steven Taylor has come out this morning and he’s yet another player who has now apologized for the terrible display against Cardiff City last Saturday, and said the lads let down the faithful Newcastle fans who traveled all the way to Cardiff, and had that stuff to watch from the Magpies.
Steven Taylor – by his look we guess he doesn’t like the new strip
But as usual our players have to learn as they go, and there are many valuable lessons to be learned in a game in which we were 3-0 down after only 26 minutes, and against a second division side to boot.
This is what Steven told the local press today:
“We’re very disappointed. We’re gutted with the result. We feel we let the fans down a little bit, but we’ve learnt a valuable lesson.” “It was a lesson we needed to learn.” “The main thing is to move on to Tottenham.”
“That’s the thing we’re really looking to now.” “We’ve got to get our heads back together and concentrate on that. That’s what we need.” “All over the pitch, we weren’t together, and that wasn’t a Newcastle performance.”
“We’re not going to take the fact that we didn’t have some key players as an excuse.” “We had a job to do, and we didn’t do it.” “But we’ll deal with it and learn from it, and put it right.”
“It doesn’t help that players are going away on international duty, and we won’t see them until Thursday or Friday.” “But the main thing is now to concentrate on what we have to do.” “We’ve got some big games coming up, and we’ve got to regroup.”
“We want a winning mentality at this football club.” “The lads are hurting – they’re gutted.”
Of course all will be forgiven and forgotten very quickly, if Newcastle can come back strongly and win our first game of the season against Spurs on Saturday at St. James’ Park in the late kick-off game.
It will be important to try to repeat what we did last season, when the lads were unbeaten for the first 11 games of the season, and we expect a much better display from Newcastle at St. James Park on Saturday – that’s the very least we expect.
A win would be fantastic!

An assumption by your name. Any chance you want to buy a football club?
3 cupiddstunt // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:31 AM
Ed it’s a well known fact that you learn and develop more from adversity than success.
Last season we did not have the greatest pre-season but did well enough when the season started
4 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:33 AM
I suppose the hidings we got last year were forgotten by the players then, while they’ve being living it up this summer? How many times do they need to ‘learn a lesson’ (the same damn one repeatedly)?
5 Dannyo // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:34 AM
The good thing is we’ve always bounced back from those types of defeats.
Meaning we’re sure to beat spurs
6 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:35 AM
Ruddy….I’m assuming not the original? Any android users care to confirm this?

It happens to the best mate.
Our defense can be unpenetrable some days. Others non existent.
8 Nick 69 // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:36 AM
Ruddy – in all fairness, Its Saylor who’s talking here, and he wasn’t involved in any of the hidings we got last season.
9 Kyo // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:36 AM
The thing we did best last season was after a 4 or 5 goal drubbing we bounced back in spectacular fashion. I fully expect Pards to have given the lads a kick up the arse and in the mood to give it their best at spurs.
And I don’t think we have any injuries. Think we’re just trying to get them off the international duty. Speaking of, the timing of that couldn’t be any worse for clubs.
10 LGFUAD21 // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Dannyo
Agreed. One thing i noticed about Pardew is that he did improve on weaknesses from past games in general. Its a shame new ones would pop up in place.
Also Cardiff are a good side. If they get back into the Prem I can really see them becoming a mainstay. They have been consistently one of the best teams in the championship and play some alright football.
11 WWYCD // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:38 AM
What lesson did they learn? Standard line to say though isnt it, it appeases those fans who hit the roof over a random battering I suppose
12 GeordieDan // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:38 AM
It might not be such a bad thing being beaten by a dogged, motivated Cardiff last week.
If we had of won that game too easily then some of our players might have gone into the game again Spurs thinking they were already World beaters after a successful pre-season prior.
Hopefully it will be a monumental kick up the backside to make them remember just how hard it will be back in the Prem this season.
And with Parker out of the game and hopefully Ba and Cisse shaking off their knocks I’m hoping for our home crowd to roar us to a win this weekend!
Anyone else excited yet!!!!
13 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Is no one else finding it a little odd that Cisse isn’t being mentioned as a possible top scorer this season by the pundits? Don’t care, just think after the way he took the league by storm, he’s be a serious contender.
14 cupiddstunt // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Ruddy @ # 4
The poor outcomes may well have been the same but the mechanics of the events varied and over the passing of time they should be remedied.
All things then being equal you are in a better position than before.
I personally think we are improving therefore we are learning from those lessons.
Maybe not as fast as some would like but it is progress.
15 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:41 AM

We never get a mention. Sometimes it’s like we arent even in the Premier League.
Pundits talk of financial fair play rules. What about Media fair play. They are also part of the problem in the game. They give all the focus to certain teams that tend to wear red or blue. Fair enough thats what they want for ratings but we’ve ended up with a bunch of Myopic glory supporters in the country.
This is why I dont talk to Manure fans, they dont know anything about anyone other than their own players. I met one with a season ticket who had never even heard of HBA, didnt realise there were 2 Taylors. They buy into hype and as a result cant really discuss football because they follow one team, and watch 1 match per week.
We were talking about pundits yesterday and its true. Neville is the only decent one. Barnes is good for tactical analysis.
Hanson does nowt but put teams down except his beloved Fool. All he’s good for is pointing out defensive errors.
Lawrenson, i question whether he actually played.
Shearer, only says the obvious things. Talks in general terms.
Its shocking when these are the quality of some of our main pundits in the game.
I prefer picking up american streams these days. Their pundits seem to know, or at least speak more tactically. They give you a better insight and show virtually no bias. ONly problem is they are boring to listen to.
Who’s the english guy that does it with them on Fox Soccer. He’s alright at times. Others he seems to know less than the Americans.
25 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 14, 2012 at 11:51 AM
Yo…Well we all know what a clueless puppet he is, what do we expect? We only got 5th place because we didn’t have to play any proper teams and were lucky. I fear relegation is on the cards this season
Ameobi…He said what? Willo LW? I really need his stand up DVD, must be a right laugh.
Iggy….Drinking, football, winning and then drinking again…..gotta love football season

Think ed needs to research what was said last night by pards and JC. One or two bloggers mentioned some interesting bits such as the unhappy squad rumours are rubbish and also that 90% of our mentioned transfer targets are hoaxes. That makes some very interesting reading and I would like to see what does happen

the 90% rumours comment was very interesting. From what Dannyo said, it was like “We have targets but no one knows who they are”
Also the Pards being unable to talk about Debuchy was interesting. Going into this window it was clear he was the top target. Pards even said on the radio about a Lille player close to Cabaye he wanted in.
Hoping Lille will buckle and sell, his interest will be more this year after Euros than it will next year with no major competition. And despite reported interest from heaps of clubs, Man U at one point, we now appear to be the only buyers.
Ajax came to with Anita when they realised he wanted out. Lille are simply playing hard ball. MA and DL will certainly test their metal. Its just a waiting game now. They have the replacement in.

Geordie Dan – really looking forward to the game saturday, hope the lads are at it from the 1st minute, and echoing many peoples thoughts if Obertan plays i hope everyone gets behind the lad.
I have sat behind a lad who just continually gave him pelters last year even though he was doing OK, it is annoying, once in the ground everyone should get behind the team. Gabby has talent, however the next couple of games for him will make or break his Newcastle career, fingers crossed he can be positive.
I know i express concerns on one or two players on the blog, but once in the ground i would never boo or loudly critisize one of our own. Some People in the ground are real pricks and i dont know why they bother.

Spurs match will come down to who is fit to play. If we are missing 2 or 3 of our big players then could see us struggling, if we have all bar HBA then fancy us to nick it.
Really cant wait, only benefit of being here is every match is live, even the Saturday 3 oclock matches, not that we’ll see many of those this season.

How great it will be to be able to watch our lads battling in Europe again as well?!
I’m still gutted about the way we lost to AZ 6 years ago!
Oba Martins could have sealed that tie a few times and completely wasted our opportunities. We scored 4 goals in the 1st leg and still couldn’t get through!
AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgghhhh. Told u it still hurts.

Im now of the shuddering opinion i wont believe it till i see them in a toon shirt inside SJP. So im off for a few weeks hopefully by then Anita will be in and the Debuchy crap will have been put to bed.
54 Kyo // Aug 14, 2012 at 12:12 PM
If Anita signs (which he should) then I can see Cisse and Ba scoring a lot as we’ll be controlling the midfield a lot more than we did last season.
I’m fine with media underrating us as usual because proving them wrong is what makes NUFC exciting.
Hopefully Ba and Cisse can prove to be successful together in central positions though. Don’t think we ever played them together like that?

Just had a look on that sky sports premier predictions, don’t know what it is.
However about 3 people have said we are going to get relegated and nobody lists us for top 5
These people need to get there heads out of their southern arses and realise that we actually exist.
However it will be much funnier to see the look in their faces when we get champions leage and beat arsenal spurs and Liverpool to top 4.
It does really annoy me when these people do this though. After last season how can anyone think we will get relegated??? It’s just daft.

Am I the only one thinking Anita will be playing left back and Santon right back for the start of the season, unless Cabaye/Tiote are injured.
I dont see this 4-2-3-1 formation coming in at all Pardew has already made it clear Ba is going to play a major factor in this year starting line up. Therefore unless Cisse is left out which is also unlikely most of you are just hoping for something that wont happen.
4-4-2 pretty much guarantee it!
—————————- Krul ————————–
Santon OR — STaylor – Colo ——- Anita OR
Simpson Santon
————————————————————–
Obertan ——– Tiote — Jonas —— Marveaux
————————————————————–
——————– Ba —— Cisse ———————-
If you say otherwise I think you would be lying to yourself! 4-2-3-1 will only happen if one of the big lads upfront are injured, and even then Ameobi could play.
4-2-3-1 also doesnt work without Ben Arfa or Cabaye!
Cabaye and Ben Arfa wont make opening game I dont think otherwise it would be different.

Ian Toon – 4-2-3-1 is in your wet dreams whilst sitting on football manager!
Leaves our fullbacks vulnerable, even more so should Santon go on a wonder up the pitch!
Its too weak!
Even when playing 4-3-3 last season it was like 4-5-1 as Demba and Ben Arfa were back defending near our own box! Its great going forward but they have no defensive ability whatsoever!
4-2-3-1 wont work for us in the real world….. only in the virtual one! Too much responsibility for Marveaux and Benny not too mention if they did come back the formation itself is a fail!
THEN you take out our highest goalscorer last season NICE ONE! where would we have been without Ba?!

Made a ma beed- it’s the media . The pair made a statement which over the last two days as been endlessly re reported . As I interpret it the main issue is that Anita wants assurance that there will be a regular role for him in CM. This will be forthcoming because Pardew wants Anita to be able to play his favoured system of 4-2-3-1. We are not buying Anita to play left back.

What is wrong with you lot?! Pardew HAS SAID! Ba will feature in the middle this season that means 2 strikers!!!
UNLESS Ba is playing behind Cisse in a 4-2-3-1 and Cabaye is played wide, Pardew would have lied to Ba.

I’d say very few. There’s your answer.
128 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2012 at 1:39 PM
Yea cos France performed so well in Euro 2012! Infact the spanish goal was due to Ribery not tracking a Alonsos run from midfield!
Arfa and Mareveuax will no doubt be the same! We are playing AM we wont need to defend!
How do you expect Anita and Tiote to cover the opposition
Centre Mid x2 possibly x3 if they play 5 midfielders!
Fullback x2
It would leave our fullback (weakest area on the pitch) exposed! Our left flank with Jonas was covered with 2 players last season and still leaked goals!
And our right back will be in the same position again this season as Ben Arfa although tracks runs at times is useless in defence!

What is your problem? Oh my goodness. You are aware that teams can rotate their starting elevens?
All this talk about football manager, it sounds like you’re the one who’s played it too much to me.
Last season Cabaye was absolutely run into the ground – and this season we (fingers crossed) will be playing an awful lot more games than last. Are you suggesting we shouldn’t sign any players, because we already have 11?
Manchester United have Valencia and Nani, wh both play on their right wing. Do you think either of those considers themself ‘backup’ ???
No. They don’t. Different games and different situations call for different players. I assume you’ve actually watched football before, and will probably have noticed this.
Quality teams have more than 2 good CMs. They have more than 2 good strikers. They have more than 2 good wide midfielders.

paw1250-the two central midfielders Tiote and Anita cover whilst the full backs get forward . With Cabaye being pushed on . Depending on the state of play the full backs can play a fluid role ie not both marauding or not marauding at all at various stages. You make 4-2-3-1
sound like kamikaze football . Pardew loves the fluidity the formation provides and Carr has been on a mission to find the players to make it work. An additional benefit is that with Anita we can play a higher line. Byee back to football manager.
147 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2012 at 1:51 PM
Pardew will most likely say to Anita – you will play centre midfield if someone is having a bad run of form or missing from the team.
But you will also cover our fullback position, possibly for the majority of this season. You will get a fair chance in centre midfield to prove yourself. If you impress you will become 1st choice!
This lad is not as good as Cabaye and Tiote. I cant see him playing centre mid unless we play 4-5-1 (4-3-3) but like I said unless Ba is out wide which he doesnt approve of it would have been bare face lying when he talked with Pardew.
I just dont think Pardew will drop two strikers who can get 10+ goals a season with some ease.
20 goals alone roughly puts you mid table! and we probably expect more, aswell as other players chipping in!

Hi guys! been following this blog since 2009. Just made an account now to join in the fun and to speak to other fellow Toon supporters. Apparently we have approached Nuri Sahin as well and he as rejected as coming out with a comment saying we are not competitive enough for him to boost and develop his career which he’s said the same about liverfool which im not so surprised about. But why would pardew look at another midfielder or even a player like Nuri Sahin where hes wage would be way above ours? Ill put the quote below for you lot to read. This is the whole quote btw:
“I love Madrid. My ultimate goal is to succeed here. I’m a player and a man who does not give up. This is why I’m so hurt by these false reports that the things are in my head and not in my body. I know pain and I know it’s real. ”
“My relationship with Mourinho is perfect. I’ll be honest, he has said, I do not play many games this season and has encouraged me to go temporarily on loan to develop my career and come back an important player.”
“For me it is not the ideal solution, but I understand it.”
As always, Sahin is not hesitant to the offer his opinions.
“If I’m forced to temporarily leave England is a league that interests me. I always teams like Manchester, Arsenal and Chelsea have admired. Tottenham are a good team, and Mourinho has told me that Villas Boas is a very good guy. It would be kind of funny when Modric went to Madrid, and I went to London ”
“I would not be interested in a team that are not competitive, such as Newcastle or Liverpool. When I am gone, I would like to improve as a player and to do that I have play with other quality players, which I do not have at those clubs.”
Can’t wait till Saturday kick off against Spurs!! But still worried we have to get CB which is my main concern which has been our priority since the last transfer window and also if we could get a young potential striker along with LB which I think what Pardew has got planned at the moment since he was talking about shifting Santon to RB so maybe we back in for Erik Pieters? Hopefully we get Anita over the line today or before the game!!
P.S Just to let you guys know Ramadan will be finishing this sunday so you will see BA/Cisse/Mehdi back to full fitness levels.

Toon Down South – we will not rotate much during PL.
I can see him putting out younger squads early on in EL and LC. He may try rotating round FA cup depending on the current progress in other cups/league.
Cabaye will play every match we need to win, as will all our big players. If we play Doncaster in league cup we will field young sides. If players are injured we have cover to fill the gap.
Last time I played football manager was about 8 years ago!
Ian Toon -
I just dont know what you are on about?
So Anita has a problem playing fullback which he will cover anyway?
Look in a match our better defending came when we got alot of men most times 8 if not 9 (not inc keeper) behind the ball! We will not allow ourselves to be in a position where our 2 centre midfielders end up fullback in a defensive situation!
It would be too complicated and the team would be able to slice through when players have to get back to their natural position.
4-2-3-1 is a fancy 4-5-1, which even if we tried setting up will be played as a 4-5-1, and I cant see Cabaye moving forward as often as we would like!
158 pardews plan B // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:01 PM
@Ian explained it better than i could.
Pawl seems to be under the impression that the fullbacks will both bomb forward and we’ll have 6 players in or on the edge of the box and then the opposition will push a counter attack of 6-7 men instantly on the dms and cbs without anybody else tracking back.
If pards did use this formation (if, pawl) then he’d have the team well drilled.

paw1250- time will tell. Under your scenario Anita won’t sign for The Toon.
161 Transfer Sage // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:03 PM
Pawl simply cannot see how formations work.
4-2-3-1 is a formation used to allow full backs to attack. Unless real Madrid and mourinho have got it so wrong?
Players cover each other when they get out of position.
Also Ba may play through the middle in 4-4-2 or maybe the release clause story was true, so pardew told him he would play centrally to keep him happy and at the club then might play him out wide now the clause is done?
It’s all speculation until the season starts and we see.
I imagine pardew will rotate his formation in the same way he will rotate his players.
162 Kyo // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:04 PM

Anita if he demands to play centre mid wont sign. I cant see how they can guarantee him a position in midfield.
He may accept fullback for the time being, with opportunities at centre midfield?! I dont know but they cant say you will play centre midfield without upsetting someone currently playing a central position at the club!
That would be Tiote, Cabaye, Ba, Cisse.
All the above we prayed to god wouldnt leave us this window or the near future!
You have to choose really Ba or Anita, and Anita wont get you was it 15 goals last year? a season!
UNLESS he is happy being backup and playing in the cups when as stated will most likely rest Cabaye etc.

168 Ian Toon // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:10 PM
paw1250- I think the reason your failing to understand the formation is the following:
- your viewing The role of the 2 CM in the new formation as you did
Tiote and Cabaye last season ( depending on state of game it will be defensive and offensive.
- Tiote and Anita will not be primarily full backs
- Simpson and Willo will not be in the team so we will not be losing as much possession.

While I’m not questioning your point, using a friendly match as the basis for an argument isn’t exactly solid.
176 JDdubai // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:22 PM
The BIGGER point here is :
Pardew shouldnt have guaranteed Ba to play in the middle IMO. He must have seen we played better football with the EVIL/GUNG-HO 4-2-3-1 formation so why guarantee Ba this?
No matter who the player is, we shouldnt change the formation from something successful just to keep 1 player happy. Ba should be happy enough to be playing up front for us, if its on the left then so be it.
Having said that I think he wasnt much cop out wide so wouold rather Marveaux be given an opportunity there to begin with, give Ba bench duty and say we were protecting him due to Ramadan, that he wouldnt be able to last the full match.
177 check the toastie // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:22 PM
If i was Pardew, you would clearly say to Big Vern that he can play were he wants, we are gunna play total football and he is integral to it.
He then signs, and then we stick him were is best for the team, anything else said to the lad would be stupid, just say what he wants to hear clearly.
Personally Pardew played 4231 a few times last year, stoke at home was the clear example of how it might work, cabaye just in front of Jonas and Mr T, Cabs still helps out with his work rate but playing a bit higher up the pitch, thus loads of chances created. Cabs, Benny and Marveaux wud be breathtaking in my opinion, Cisse up Top.
Demba Ba wud have to play second fiddle, didnt do well when pushed out wide last year after Cisse arrived, might not be happy but thats modern football, Ballatelli might not be too happy playing third fiddle to Aguerro and Tevez this year, its the way it goes.

Big Question for me at the weekend is how sharp is Steven Taylor? not really seen a lot of him in pre-season, ususally takes time to get up to speed, anybody shed any light, little concerned he may be off the pace.
If so i would play Perch or Tav as Spurs have no real height up front to worry about, Willo shouldnt play against a front three of Defoe, Bale and Lennon, Disaster waiting to happen for me.
183 Offkey // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:28 PM
Pawl @171 – He doesn’t exactly say we will be playing like spain. He talks about looking at other teams and trying to implement their best bits. Such as possession play, which I think Anita in CM will help us do.
He also said a similar thing (on TV I think) about how Pirlo plays and how he has tried to get CM’s dropping deep to start play off. I could see Anita doing this from what I have seen (and no, I am not saying he is as good as Pirlo)
184 Gateshead-Mag // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:28 PM

Spurs 4 – 4 – 2 … almost guarantee it, would only be 4 – 5 -1 if Ba or Cisse isnt fit and he doesnt think Shola can do the deed!
Cant see 4-2-3-1 happening this season
JDubai – I agree he should have told Ba something that he may not be able to back up!
I still think 4-4-2 will be played majority of this seaosn. Maybe 4-3-3 if one of the Dembas are injured.
Anita cant be given the same guarantee to be played in the centre.

I didnt actually read the article just the heading. Forgive for jumping to conclusions but it was poorly named if that be the case.
Gateshead – I cant get my head round people wanting 4-2-3-1 it makes the weakest are of our game (fullbacks) twice as vulnerable!
I can maybe see playing 4-5-1 with
Ben Arfa – Cabaye – Tiote – Anita – Jonas against the big boys as we would have a very hard working midfield (minus Arfa)
I do however think it would peeve Ba/Cisse if they were to be benched for the big boys!
Ba was unhappy coming off 80 minutes in a game towards end of last season!

You talk as of we’ll either line up 4-4-2 every game or 4-5-1.
Morons we’ll play many formations over our 50+ game season and our tactics will be chosen to best stop the opposition and give them a headache.
Whether that’s a 4-4-2 against Southampton, 4-3-3 against Everton or a 5-3-2 against Boston in the cup.
Stop being so had stupid and narrow minded.

What ppl are failing to say here is cabaye is 20x better when pushed forward which is why Anita is coming in to play alongside tiote, and then cabaye can go behind the striker
Also Anita maybe a CDM but the lad got skills goin forward from his time at lb

marveaux and sessengnion are very different players. marveaux is a much better passer and holds the ball well..he plays a lot deeper. Sessengnion is basically a second striker & can beat a man with his dribble.
203 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:41 PM
Beattie – Your right we should play more formations, however I remember Wor Bobby tried to do the same!
It failed! we ended up 4-4-2 every game in the end!
Its between 4-5-1 (or 4-3-3 if you think we actually play that) and 4-4-2.
We wont play 5 at the back, its a death wish in the PL. Its an attempt to park the bus, and a one sided game for 85 minutes!

“why cant Pardew see our best formation”
BLAH BLAH BLAH!
Terrible formation, hope we dont play it we dont have the players to do it!
4-5-1 with the hardworking lads would be a good defensive game plan. It would be hard to work through our midfield. Striker wont be happy whoever is dropped.

Moussa Sissokho
Konate
Remy
208 ToonDownSouth // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:53 PM
We’ve played 4-2-3-1 a couple of times in pre season. I don’t see why Pardew would use it if he had no intentions to mix up our formations a bit.
442 works well – in my opinion – against the top teams, because we don’t have the all round quality to match them. Against Manchester United & at Stamford Bridge, we went for a blood & thunder approach with the two big lads up top, and blew them away.
209 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:54 PM

Iggystinger -
The lads have tried to settle me by saying the 2 DM will cover midfield flanks left and right. 1 DM will certainly not be able to do that!
Simpson and Santon are not good enough defending in the PL! Santon is excellent going forward but very average at defending. His pace allows him to have a 2nd attempt to defend should a player pass him.
A weakness in 4-2-3-1 is you will find Santon and Debuchy if bought will be further forward and defensively we will look weak especially on a counter attack!

about Anita,
It’s not which position AP will play him, it’s about being regular first choice in the team. The problem is who will AP relegate to the bench, will he be good enough to be starting line-up every game. We have to remember that Anita’s wage will be reviewed in 6 months if he signs, so.. he expects to be regular starter.
213 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Aug 14, 2012 at 2:59 PM

214 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2012 at 3:03 PM
Anita if hes good enough will start, but in that statement would mean Tiote or Cabaye would most likely be gone in near future.
I think Anita will play left back unless one of the two above get injured OR we play a different formation.
I wouldnt mind 4-1-2-1-2 This would allow Cabaye moving forward. Of course it would add alot of pressure to Ben Arfa and his defensive obligations.
215 Toon73 // Aug 14, 2012 at 3:03 PM

216 Transfer Sage // Aug 14, 2012 at 3:04 PM
@pawl the reason Madrid have the ball a lot and attack with pace and width is the formation which allows full backs to support the wingers.
We played 4-2-3-1 against stoke last year.
Tiote and Jonas holding with cabaye advanced with Ba and benny either side en cisse up top. So we have he players.

I’d expect 4 signing before the summer transfer window and further additions in January. Arsenal and Spurs are ahead of us at the moment. We could’ve done with Vertonghen and Sigurdsson.
Arsenal have made 3 first team signings, so we need at least 4 signings to be on par with them.
Vertonghen will be in my fantasy football team. He’ll be getting 8-10 goals this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores against us. All our targets seem to bang them in against us.
220 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2012 at 3:10 PM
Conaldo – but how many points off a champions league place?
And with Chelsea having a very poor league campaign last season. Spending 70m+ to date on new additions it would suggest they wont repeat. Arsenal have also improved.
Infact I think top 4 now will be out of reach with City, Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea having much better squads this year.. If Arsenal lose VP it would depend on how well the new strikers adapt to PL.
Spurs could be dropping to 6/7, Everton however will be up for 5/6 in my opinion. The 15m for an average Rodwell will allow them to strengthen the squad. Something Moyes has done very well in his time at Everton!
I think we will be top 10, but wouldnt be suprised if we are 8th/9th due to EL. I would like to think we would concentrate on that more than any other this year. Its an automatic qual to CL something that will allow us to step up towards the top 4.

Kyo-
I ve been telling you they can, but not in the centre if Pardew intends to hold to his word about having Ba centre striker!
He wont drop Cisse therefore we have 2 upfront!
At what point does Anita Cabaye and Tiote ‘fit’ together in the centre then?!
You clearly dont have a clue!
It can happen BUT Pardew will be leaving our top scorer last season off the pitch? Why are people so desperate for this to happen?!
Its the first time since Shearer and Ferdinand we have 2 scorers, with incredible power and talent and we want to bench one of them!!! It bemuses me!
We have had to wait 15 years for two top quality strikers that seem to not be injury prone and the fans decide we dont need one and he will clearly be happy sitting on the bench?! YEA RIGHT!
226 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2012 at 3:21 PM
The EL will give you qualification stages for the CL as you won the competition you can enter qualification stages. If we happened to lose it, we would drop into the EL final qualification stage (same stage we are now).
You will also play CL winners in the super cup early on in the season another bonus!

Pawl, not sure about Arsenal, think Wenger has started to lose the plot a little, Arteta, Mertesacker, Podolski, Santos are players he would never have signed 5/10 years ago, not sure about Giroud, totally unproven, many a ‘physical’ french striker has found life difficult when confronted with the likes of Shawcross and Terry, hopefully this season maybe Wengers last. Fingers crossed.
And god knows what they are doing with Wilshere, out for 16 month with a poorly ankle??? Personally think with our strongest 11 we could again threaten top 4. Pardiola thinks that as well.

Quality player!
Ok you have a point about Mertsacker, by Nana at the age of 83 is faster than him. Arteta is a brilliant player, even today his passing is amazing. His problem is injuries!
As for Santos cant say I know enough about the kid. Arsneal have strengthened after losing Nasri and Fabregas this time last year. I would never doubt Wengers judgement of a player, hes found some gems!
Wilshere is an odd one, think he got an infection or something, but he will be a massive bonus this year providing he can come back at the same level he was injured at.

Big Pappa Cisse -
Would that formation show Ba on the wide left? Oh thats right he promised that he would be given a central role. Not wide role!
As for this 4-2-3-1 blah blah the main positive that I happen to agree with is Cabaye playing further upfield, in a 4-3-3 as you have shown it would not really allow him to do this as he would be restricted to his midfield defensive duties.
We may start several matches that way, but Ba wont exactly be looking for a season on the wing. I can see him leaving if that be the case.

I dont know everything, just pointing out the obvious. The whole discussion revolves around
Ba Cisse fitting same team upfront central
And Anita Cabaye and Tiote playing in the same central midfield. With Cabaye offering a more attacking option.
Its a good problem to have but you cannot get the lad to sign by telling him you are a first team central midfielder.

On paper at least, a midfield of Cabaye, Tiote, Anita and Marveaux would blend, having pace, power and ability. Taylor has started mouthing it already, its time he shut up, got fit, stayed clear of injuries and let his feet do the talking on the pitch.
