There are reports coming out of Italy today, that Inter Milan could be preparing a new bid for for Newcastle United target, 27 year-old French International right-back, Mathieu Debuchy, and it could even match the valuation his club Lille have put on the player.
Mathieu Debuchy – Inter-Milan still interested?
The news is coming out of the Italian press, and Tuttosport in particular, who are reporting the Italian giants could be preparing a new offer of around €8M for the Lille defender.
The club are looking to sell Brazilian right-back Maicon this summer, and the full-back is past his best, and they will need to replace him, although it seems their number one target is Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov, and current right back Japanese International Tuto Nagatomo would move over to the right back position, if they acquire Aleksandar .
Inter-Milan are apparently waiting to hear from the Premier League Champions whether they will sell Kolorov for a fee they have already offered, rumored to be €8M, but Manchester City are likely to hold out for more.
And if they cannot get the Serbian International, they could turn to Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy, and Inter-Milan President Massimo Moratti is said to be willing to offer up to €8M (about £6.4M) to Lille for the right-back – according to the report in Tuttosport.
It’s debatable what Newcastle have actually offered Lille for the player, but it’s probably not as much as Inter-Milan will offer, and it could even meet Lille’s valuation of their player.
If this happens and Inter-Milan do make a move for Mathieu, we would hope Newcastle will be straight in with an improved offer for the Frenchman.
It would be tragic if Newcastle lose out in the bidding for Debuchy – and certainly a certain Yohan Cabaye would not be too impressed.

They didn’t up their valuation. Our first bid was a cheeky 4m euros which was laughed at. They said they want 8m euros so our improved bid was 6m plus 2m or so sell on bonus if we ever sell him. This was not good enough for lille.

i have seen Cissokho play on numerous occasions and have been thoroughly underwhelmed..
i’ve noticed he’s pretty erratic in his decision making and loses possession quite often.
would rather get someone younger like Sebastian Corchea who everyone has been mentioning. I’ve personally never seen him play but with regard to how highly everyone speaks of him and Tavernier beginning to fulfill his promise, i feel financially and thinking in terms of the future, he or someone similar (age, potential, etc) would be preferable.

No bloody urgency from the board to get deals over the line even though we are short on quality for the start of the season and a hectic European game. What a bloody shambles. I know people will tell me to chill but Ashley seems way to stringent when it comes to transfers. It would be a complete shambles if we were to lose out on DEBUCHY for a difference of a million pounds or so. For god sake, sort it out and get Debuchy and Anita in mannnn. Good old silly season, always as frustrating. We have already a decent squad and a Debuchy-esque signing would certainly improve the team. I hope we will get at least some one (a full back) over the line, and also a centre back (and a striker) – we are now also in Europe, and there will be plenty of matches this season.

Its simple really.
Sign 4 decent players at FB, CB, CM & LW/SS and we have enough quality and quantity to push on all fronts next season.
Sign nobobdy and we lack the depth to challenge in the multiple competitions and we have to make massive sacrifices and gambles to push forwards.
Sign a couple of players and we might have success but a lot will be down to luck and fate.
It’s that simple IMO. You can’t buy success but your signings can ensure cover for most eventualities and the additional quality should propel us forward.

As much as I want there to be more British players in the team its not gonna happen any time soon. Prices are just ridiculous and no way we would pay what clubs are asking for average Englishmen.
Welbeck has just signed a 75k a week deal, I know he is better than a lot but thats still a crazy amount of money for someone so young. And Fletcher at 14 million, Butland rated at god knows what….
Im more than happy to produce our own English players for a while, at least give them a chance anyway.

D.Cisse did well last season but got booked and sent off a few times. If he manages to not lose his head, he’ll have another good season. Santon might provide a few assists but our defence will leak goals.

Seriously lads, all this stressing out cannot be good for ya, so sit back and relax. Transfers are going to happen eventually. Looks like Anita will sign and I also think that we’re in for a surprise or two by the end of the window.
It is a bit of a shame that we were unable to conduct business as quickly as we were able to last year but I trust Pards when he says that this is the work of greedy clubs, agents and even players themselves.
I don’t agree with the “just pay them an extra few million to get them signed” policy and I am glad that MA and DL are handling these deals and not the monopoly men off this blog.
We have enough about us to get a positive result on Saturday and anyone who thinks that by the end of the window we may be too far adrift to challenge for European places simply because we haven’t strengthened the team is either moronically brain dead or has no knowledge of football. Either way that opinion doesn’t count.

Yeah, Boyce is better defensively and he can actually get forward and shoot/assist. He scored 2 screamers last season and was pivotal in Wigan’s relegation battle. Wigan beat us 4-0. Who was at fault for those goals? They need to be gone within the next few days.

4 right backs i would sooner have in the team than Simpson. Steven Taylor, James Perch, James Tavernier and Jonas, all at the club already, put gosling and Raylor into that mix as well, maybe SIX at the club thats how lowly i rate the lad.

For me, Raylor is the worst player in our squad. He’s a really decent guy, but far below our level unfortunately. I hope he sticks around, as he’s got a lot of experience to pass on.

Simpson is well overrated by our fans. Him and Williamson were the reason why we didn’t get into the champions league.
Raylor is a lot better defensively and offensively than Simpson. Simpson backs off attackers and allows them to get the cross in.
Even players like Best and Obertan were criticising Simpson last season.
I can’t think of a player that’s worse than Simspon. Maybe Bradley Orr was, but Blackburn went down. I’d rather have Stearman than Simpson in the team. Bosingwa is a class fullback.

Gotta say even though i dont rate simpson , Raylor at Full back is seriously flawed, he maybe OK to come on as full back if we are getting beat, did against Blackburn at home last year, linked up well with Benny going forward, puts in a mean cross, however leaves massive spaces in behind him, cant see him playing much this year……….hopefully,
Being taken off after 30 minutes at the weekend and stropping straight down the tunnel wont have done him many favours. Dont understand why he was given a contract extension apart from him being a good pro, and a good example to the young guns.

Anita has a better ‘sell on’ value if he doesn’t work out, Debuchy not so much, so Newcastle are more likely to stick to their guns on price with the Frenchman given his age. I find it hard to believe that Debuchy wouldn’t do well, but I’m encouraged that Anita wants to talk to Pardew about his role…a nice change from the days of players just looking exclusively at the pound signs…not that this isn’t a part of it of course.

I think it’s unlikely we get Anita and Debuchy, unless Anita is to replace Tiote (heaven forbid) or Jonas. Santon will make one Full Back slot his own and we do have others who can slot into right back if needed, such as Simpson (if still here) Perch, Raylor, Saylor or Tavernier. We’d better off getting one more specialist Centre Half on board. We saw last year that on occasions stand-ins in times of injury / suspension didn’t work out too well.

Well I’ve seen nothing on the Anita front, I thought he was in Newcastle yesterday but that was obviously untrue and I’m not liking that he is seemingly basing any move to Newcastle on assurances that he will play solely in a certain position. I’d like to think he’d play wherever Pards asks him to play but if they think the guy is good enough then I am convinced.
I’ll not get too excited until he actually signs though.

Why is slagging players off on forums acceptable? These players pull on the jersey and try to do the best they can for the team. So, personally, I think that slagging them off is not on. We can question their performances and offer criticism to a point but when it resorts to “he’s shit” that’s where I think it crosses a line.
Also, bear in mind that supporting a club isn’t always about going to games, some supporters don’t have the luxury of actually living in Newcastle.
Some here might think I am baiting or trolling but I am just making what I think to be a fairly valid point.

I do agree every1 should be entitled to there opinion but i think we all know your opinion on simmo and willo now and you genuinly do post some good stuff with some insight in to some good players that would be great for the toon.
Do you think for the sake of blog peace and sanity you could maybe tone it down a touch on simmo n willo (not all together) and stick to your scouting gems and generally feelings about the season coming? Cos its better to actually talk to you about it than have ppl telling you to shut it etc. after all thats why ppl used to get fcuked off with indian magpie and his shola bashin!!

Ruddy – one thing I feel about our present lot is that when they pull on the jersey they try their hardest. Maybe some lack talent, lack confidence, pace, make mistakes or whatever – but they don’t not try. Owen, Viduka, Dyer anybody? Because of that, they get my support whenever they play, even if I disagree with their selection. I remain unconvinced about Gosling – but each time he plays I hope he’ll prove me wrong. I wrongly assume all true fans are the same but I do know some who sit near me who groan when Shola scores because it means he might be picked again! Bizarre!

I agree, but even when Owen , Viduka and Dyer (to name a few) were playing for the Toon I still always gave them my unwavering support, even if it wasn’t merited at times.
The point is that we are supporters of NUFC, and pride ourselves as being among not only some of the best fans in the League, or country, but in the world. Surely we cannot boast that if we feel it is our god given right to slate our own players simply because we don’t think they are good enough to don the sacred black and white.
We may think that Simmo or Willo or Obertan aren’t good enough (I personally think that they are great players to keep around the team) but even if you think they aren’t good enough that doesn’t give anyone the right to slag them off, they are NUFC players and deserve our respect and more importantly our support.
NB: Anyone who doesn’t think Shola is worthy of playing for NUFC can literally take a running jump because I am sick of having that argument.

Am I the only one getting twitchy about this Anita deal? 48 hours after the fee is agreed, and no progress on personal terms, and the player himself seemingly not exactly ‘busting a gut’ to make this transfer happen. Hope I’m wrong, but I can tell you that there is no way that we are increasing the bid for Debuchy. Ashley has told Pardew that he has gone as far he’s going to for a 27 year old, and the deal will only happen IF Lille backtrack. Not likely, especially if they get other offers!

I must confess i did stop supporting owen and this was based on one turning point for me, i’ll set the scene for you maestro
It was the toon vs reading away, my dad phoned me on the way there saying he had sold our tickets to his mate because someone at work had got him some complementary tickets from harps
Got to the ground, found our seats sitting with a few of the other ppl with complementary tickets, at half time went to the bar and started chatting to the lad who was sitting next to me, now this bloke was in a full suit and hat so i said i thought he was a bit dressed up for a toon match!
Turns out he was micheal owen helicopter pilot (paid for by the club ffs) and he basically flew him to and from training and to and from games, meaning that he didnt even travel with the team, at that point i decided he was a money grubbing little cnut who had no intrest in the club other than lining his pockets i despise the little fcuker!!!!

Jesper – I’ve had my nephew and medic mate trying to find out about the Anita deal, but it would appear that everyone is keeping it zipped. There isn’t even any talk, good or bad, on the agent’s grapevine, so we’ll just have to wait and see. What I can tell you is, they are a bit more optimistic about Cabaye being able to play at least SOME part on Saturday.

A truly detestable human being, I agree with you on that one 100%, but whenever he was on the pitch all I wanted to see was him smash the ball in the back of the net, so although I hated him as a man I wanted the best from him as a player and wouldn’t spout my hatred of him until he left the club.

It’s not a personal issue. It’s just criticising certain players’ abilities. That is normal as we want what is best for NUFC. Getting rid of weaker players and replacing them with talented individuals is the way forward.
The majority of people on this sie understand who the weak-links are.
I also think the criticism of Obertan is completely unfair. Especially when certain fans were booing on the pitch last season. That’s just ridiculous. He’s not a bad player. It’s more a confidence issue rather than an ability issue. He’s a good squad player. Probably the fastest player in the league.

Jimmy that is the rankest form of twisting someone’s words. He isn’t saying that to be a good player you must score in pre-season, he is saying that Vuckic has looked decent in pre-season as evidenced by him scoring some goals.
Pards himself said that he was optimistic of Cabaye playing some part in Saturday’s game so nothing new there. As for the Anita signing, perhaps there is more to it than meets the eye, and it could be on Anita’s end not necessarily the club’s fault.
This is getting exhausting really.

As for debuchy tbf i think lille will budge on the price i dont think they will see any benefit in having an unhappy player and i think they are just waitng for another club to show intrest n get a bit of a bidding war going, i kniw they made a tonne of hazard n gervinho but dont really know enough about the club to know if that leaves rolling in it!

Well Anita’s dad did say that Anita wants assurances from Pardew about where he intends to use him and I assume those assurances are going to be relayed to him through his agent and not necessarily Anita in person.
Perhaps the club is talking with his agent about these supposed assurances as well as discussing personal terms before they invite Anita over to Newcastle. I’d assume that the only reason we need Anita in the country is to do the medical and sign on the dotted line.
So if personal terms have not been agreed the club might not ask him to come over until they have been settled.
This is purely me speculating as I do not, nor ever have, claimed to have inside knowledge at the club. It is a case of the blind leading the blind on this site.

Ruddy – you obviously don’t keep up to date with what is said at this club. Pardew said publicly a week ago that the deal with Lille was agreed, then they moved the goalposts. We even told Reading that Simpson was theirs’, but when the deal fell through we had to tell Reading the Simpson deal was off, and they signed Gunter from Forest. I’m not asking you to believe me mate, I couldn’t care whether you do or not, but I don’t have to spend hours each day listening to all the garbage in the media. Pardew told you that we would have 2 signings by now, presumably you think he has no contacts either. The local and national press were briefed by the club that they would not increase the Debuchy offer and it was well reported – keep up!!

Surely you remember what it was like to hAve growth spurts and become a little disorientated at times, in fact of your 78 your probably not much of a mover yourself.
Vuckic has started 2 full PL games. One away to Liverpool where he and the rest of the team were anonymous, and one at home to WBA when he was the best nufc player in the pitch.
I’ll go off what I see in competitive matches. Is it not the same people saying Vuckic can’t cut it after his appearances in friendlies that were also saying after the 4-1 Cardiff jumping that friendlies don’t matter?!

AP was quoted last night saying Obertan lacks confidence. He’s a very skillfull lad and shows it in training, but finds it hard on the pitch. He needs people to cheer him and get behind him.
IMO, i doubt he’ll ever get there, atleast for us, he could do with a month loan in the Championship to build confidence there.

This blog is back to being negative.
When I first stated reading it was the same way, then cisse signed a few days later and people cheered up.
We then lost a few and negativity came back, then the ACON finished, we had a good run and everyone was happy.
People get agitated over things out of their control. We need to trust the club, they have done well since pardew took over and money is available for certain players, the right money IMO but that’s just my opinion.

I just urge people to see how the lads do against spurs, remember this team finished 5th and whilst we need to improve like the teams around us we still have time to do that.
Also spurs haven’t really for better, lost their main striker and their playmaker is off. Vertongen will be no better than Ledley king, juat fitter, so can’t see them being much different.
Liverpool haven’t done enough to make up the huge difference in points betweenua yet IMO

Happy with the Anita signing because it really signals an intent to play football on the ground instead of long and direct, shame we won\t be signing Benjamin Corgnet though! Im a bit Ligue 1 biased as its the league I get to see live the most (although usually its PSG games) but I would have loved our summer to have been M’Bengue, Boly, Corgnet and Riviere! We would have had a beautiful team to watch with those additions!

Personally I dont have an issue with a lot of what Jimmy says, and agree with much of it. I’ve always felt that we could have had quality players stitched up by now, even if that meant paying a little bit more, particularly given the derisory offer (3m) that we made for Debuchy initially. Put it this way, if Arry was at Spurs, and they came in and offered that for, say, Santon , we’d hate the bastard, and have even less respect than we already have for him. And rightly so. There’s a fine line between smart negotiations and brinkmanship, and I wonder if Ashley tries to be too tough, when other approaches would yield faster results. Pardew has known his targets for months, and would have benefitted hugely by getting them in faster. If Jimmy has issues with MA in this regard, i can see his point. Incidentally, I’m not from Newcastle iether, but have been there loads, and travelled all over the UK with Geordies, and consider myself a fairly knowledgeable fan – certainly passionate, and have been like this since about 7 yrs old. Anf of course, I hope to meet Mr Shearer at the West Ham game, in his box. Which is nice …..:) Lets try not to fight gents , we’re all black and white brothers at the end of the day….

It’s hard to judge rubbish in the papers.
Even quotes aren’t trustworthy. Players, managers and owners only say things what help themselves.
To get deals done quickly Liverpool spent 15 million on Allen and Sunderland are spending 14 on fletcher.
I know they may just ask for one more million but we shouldn’t pay more than we think. If they were worth that extra million we would spend it I’m sure.
But at the same time as a fan i wouldlove us to spend the extra money and get some top players in.
No matter what we think the club won’t change on fan opinion anymore. We need to wait and hope pardew can manage the lads he has.

Since my last surgery I’n may put me outta commission for typing these last 2 months I have read the blog daily but have been unable to respond. Come on lads, we will be fine, we will get I’n the 3 players we need, may not be who we think is coming but we will get 3 Carr players and that’s good enough for me. Transfer Sage- Naturally a winning start to the season would be what we all want but it won’t determine our season. No more did our first game up to the Premiership under Keegan when we lost the first game of the season at home 1-0 to a Sheringham goal. The second game we drew 1-1 at Man U and I believe finished 3 rd in the league. We’re shaping our side and when all fit and in place will more often than not play 4-2-3-1 which is already taking shape publicly and privately in training. The personnel are not in place so the team and formation

And we don’t “need” any player. To win the league we need players, to get top 4 we need players but what is the boards ambition. Top ten, top 8, 6, 4…. We dont know.

Let’s bring back the Fat Freddy approach of not only paying over the odds but well over the odds for players. Wasn’t Michael Owen subject to an 8 million quid bid from Liverpool when he was at Real Madrid and we came in over the top with….17 million quid.
The funny thing about this is that we applauded that approach until it blew up in our faces.
We also signed Boumsong for 8million 5months after could have had him for nothing.
Millions spent on players like Marcelino, Luque, Duff, Viana all in the name of progress and we applauded Freddy for spending the cash necessary to evolve as a club….only we didn’t evolve did we? We got relegated as a result of the mismanagement of the club by idiots in charge.

Man city might spend more than they earn but they have an owner who can finance this personally.
Our owner cannot afford to throw 30 mil at a player. And spend 100mil a year
Even city have slowed the spending this summer. They invested a lot to get to the top but are low slowing down the spending as they don’t need to.
They injected a lot of cash early and now trying to be more sustainable, will be hard though.

You throw your “too good for Ashley” lines out there, which are amusing, as I don’t think you generally mean them so much now and continue it with the banter that goes with the blog, other than that, you’re a reasonable poster.
I agree it’s sad Jimmy feels he can’t post on here anymore, but I really don’t think Ruddy or anyone else can make someone not come on here.
The blog has nothing to do with age, where you were born, where you live, how long you’ve supported the toon, how many games you go to, how many tattoos you have or whether you’re positive or negative…it’s about supporting this great club and entering in to debate with other fans.

I don’t base or temper my responses based on whether I think the person on the other side has more or less NUFC knowledge than I do, or whether they are older or younger than me or whether they have connections in the club or not. I base my responses on what they say and whether it’s rational or not.
Jimmy was making opinions sound like facts and I just wanted to call him on it. I wasn’t insulting nor did I speak in a derogatory fashion towards him. Plainly put I just told him that I didn’t believe a word of it and sought more proof of what he was saying. He then resorted to childish insults about where I lived and how old I was yet I seem to be the one who is targeted as a bully when that is far from the truth.
Indian Magpie did nothing but criticise wor Shola with things like “Shola is shit, we’re going to lose if Shola starts”
How is that a rational opinion to have? He was quite rightly asked to explain himself and then bogged off when he was constantly called on it.

Would love to know who supposedly told others to stay away if they weren’t going to be positive and optimistic? I suppose that blame lies on my shoulders.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone else is entitled to dissect that opinion and ask for qualification of said opinion.
Some opinions are based on rational judgment, others based purely on irrational spite and anger, the latter opinions usually do not stand up to scrutiny.
When those opinions are torn to shreds it is then apparently the fault of those who did the tearing as being bullies.
I can live with that then I suppose

Jail…I think you know I have no problem with you and to be honest, most posters on here.
I do disagree though that people are bullied off the blog. As I said, all someone needs to say is “you know what, let’s agree to disagree. I don’t like talking to you, so why don’t we just enjoy this blog Ed provides and ignore each other”?
It just seems simpler than hurling crap at each other of saying you didn’t feel you could post on the blog due to bullies.
Got to say, it’s getting a little tiresome people saying they felt they were being driven off by optimistic comments. I mean think about it, frightened by optimistic bullies – it just doesn’t add up. But then again, I do often see things differently.
Also Indian and Kets are different stories. I will respect their right to post, but on the numerous occasions I’ve personally tried to engage them in conversation, they’ve both been as awkward as possible, it’s kind of hard to fight their corner.
As for Ruddy’s, I think there are more. He’s become an easy target lately, mainly as he’s not afraid to voice his views, personally, I’d love to see someone who views things differently to go head to head in a reasonable fashion, but I haven’t seen much of it tbh.

I’ve just escaped with Chief Bromden from my electro-therapy sessions with Nurse Ratched….good to see all is well with NUFC and we’ve turned another profit in transfer trading so far to add to the £44m accumulated under Mike. Wow, it makes you feel good being an accountant! Thank God we haven’t spunked any money on genuine 1st team quality and taken advantage of the opportunity to propel ourselves ahead of the so-called big teams who have new managers and are rebuilding and restructuring.
Patience is needed, people say we need 4 quality players but I reckon one signing on the last day will do because it always feels better after getting pissed around for four months. All these ‘names’ that Carr recommends and Pardew wants is nonsense….Mike and Del have our best interests at heart.

My take is everyone is getting a bit tetchy and wound up by ITK’s, imposters, people who seem to like being negative without backing up their negative statements (not those who have genuine fears I hasten to add),and occasionally, Ketsy. Chill, in a few days all that pent up energy will be released as a Toon roar that shakes the foundations of the earth, when we put our first goal past Spuds-U-Don’t-Like.

People take things way to seriously on the internet. Its the same on any community online. Hell just throw some buzz arguments onto the right forum e.g ps3 is better than xbox megalulz and you’ll have 10 pages of rage in 10 minutes.

to be fair to some ITK’s alot of the time situations change! I work in an industry where every now and then you hear things (in my case unfortunately its usually about stoke city or aston villa) and then those things don’t pan out! For example, Yacine Brahimi was at bodymoor heath about 3 weeks ago, 100% was there with Seydou Doumbia yet those transfers never happened! Problem is with ITK’s is that a lot of the time they jump the gun or put 2 +2 together and make 5, for example, both Eden Hazard and Debuchy visited our training ground last season, both spoke to Alan Pardew and both watched games at st James park! Anyone associated with the club, ie: catering staff, bar staff etc if they had seen them would have reported we were signing hazard, yet he was just there to meet cabaye and watch a game!
