  if you think about it, full back, as a position is really underrated. Some say they’re just wingers who weren’t quite good enough, but to be fair it’s the only position on the pitch where the player is fully judged on both defending and attacking. Some would argue centre midfielders also are, but most teams have a a CM more suited to attacking and another for defensive duties. It is impossible for us to sign a full back that can do both to a high standard; as simply, there’s only a handful of players in the last 20 year (my footballing life) that have done it successfully. Ashley Cole, Phillip Lahm, Roberto Carlos etc. So i think some of you need to lower expectations a bit.

  Anyway here in my country, Italian football have more coverage than English. We also got a lot of visits from Italian clubs for friendly, even our youth also join primavera programs.
  I like ITalian football because of their defensive play, great technics and dirty play “the ball can pass you but not the man”.
  If we are looking for defenders, we should look at some Italians.

  I personally think that any notion that Ashley is going to fund a Champions League push, after ONE good season, is ridiculous.

  I think it’s mental, I think it’s completely forgetting that the club has a long term plan, and I think that everyone needs to have a little look at what went wrong with Leeds.

  @transfer sage – he was a good enough Left back / Left wing back for Real Madrid to spend 15m on him at the time! He played left back in the only games he’s played for Holland too! Pretty sure he only started playing other positions when Madrid signed Marcelo and they tried to fit drenthe in further up the pitch! Agreed tho, he did seem lazy at everton, but really dangerous when they had possession!

  i am starting to give up trying to explain all this chaos with fullback even a friend said to me yesterday that maybe these bloggers who slate simpson don’t care about 4/5-0 thrashing as long as we have lots of player going forward. i myself also think of FB and winger doing team work ether by both going forward and getting back like jose and jonas did or the FB stays bak while the wide man remains forward most times which is how HBA and simmo play.

  I know this has been heavily talked about but I hope this is for the midfield. Quite amazing to think we could have Anita and Tiote sitting in front of the defense with Cabaye free to do what he does best. I suppose if he is the only one through the door we will have the answer.

  Tds … I wouldnt say that is to unreasonable . Really CL is proberly beyond us this season. What we need to do is focus on building and maintaining a side that can consistantly challenge for top 6. After that we should look to build and push on to bigger things.

No doubt it will not be our only major signing this month – Ed may have called it correctly a few days ago: “Anita first, then Debuchy” – that’s not counting the reurn of England centre forward.

  Carlos highly over rated as a defender in my opinion had a thunderous shot and overlapped going forwards but was not a good defender.

  By the sounds of it, the talk with Pardew was to find out exactly where he will be playing. If that is the case do not expect him to be as versatile as we are making out to be. I may be completely wrong but thats how I have read the comments from him.

  TDS….You are right in your assumption, I do agree. He has put a plan in place, progressing faster will make him take note more, but imo, wont make him spend more to speed things up.

  I would imagine each year we will add a little to improve the squad…within our financial means.

  I hear people say “well if we don’t push on now, we will lose our star players”.

  Well, if that is the case, then they are on long term contracts and I would imagine we’d get good money for said player and then re-invest in the squad, slowly but surely.

  We may not take the CL by storm straight away, but this model, as used by Arsenal, seems to work for long term “big dog” status. Whether it will bring trophies is another question altogether, but one we can get to down the line.

  would have to disagree mate, i thought he was an absolute terrier as a defender, and his blistering pace meant not many wingers would be to simply outrun him, and just keeping up with wingers (traditionally the quickest players) is a good asset for a full back, something i wouldn’t consider Santon nor Simmo have.

  Carlos was a tough fcucker as well, which helped him.

  anita is two footed, been at ajax for ages therefore is drilled into him not to give the ball away. im pretty sure the first first team will be anita n tiote, cabaye in front, benny, n demba demba. thats pretty insane.

  but obv theres lots of other options i guess if anita can play lb, he can do a pretty decent job at rb too. id like a cb over a cf , we’ll see if we get one, id be surprised if we get 2, more surprised if we get a fb

  I have little doubt that Anita has been signed to START as a HOLDING MIDFIELDER for Newcastle while providing cover at LB.

  This makes our primary formation a 4-3-3 with Tiote & Anita holding and giving Cabaye more free reign to go forward and make plays.

  The key to the 4-3-3 is that the fullbacks are more like wingbacks who must provide an offensive threat and overlapping runs, while the holding midfielders provide their cover. (Here Anita should work really well with Santon. Also I wouldn’t be surprise to see Jonas playing a lot more LB like he did for Argentia in the world Cup.)

  So, to me, this move really marks the end of Simpson and increases the need to bring in Debuchy. (Watch him with France in Euro 2012. He spent more time in the attacking zone in one month than Simpson spent all year.)

Reason we did well last year is that our defensive fb simpson was paired with an attacking winger in hba, while santon who can attack was paired with defensive jonas. So a good balance. Disagree on ashley cole being one who can do both mind. I know evryone keeps telling me hes a threat but i perso ally dont see that in his game. Defend yes, but id like to see some stats on goals or assists as i cant remember many

  @american geordie – No doubt you’re right! To be honest, he’s not good enough a left back to have been signed for that position, hes a top quality centre midfielder though! He wouldn’t join us unless he was playing centre mid, this is the position is on the verge of the national team playing!

  Gateshead, he’s quick, but coming up against a winger such as Bale he wouldn’t keep up, the point i was trying to make is, players like Carlos, Lahm etc, possess the qualities of wingers physically, aswell as being tough and mentally sound in order to not get complacent with positioning/marking etc. The life of a full-back is hard.

  Considering that the chain of thought that Anita will come in as a DM to sit and hold alongside Tiote whilst rampaging full backs act as wingers leaving Benny, Cabs and Marveaux to create is likely correct, do you think the club is confident that we can sign another WB?

  I can’t see them spending so much on Anita to waste him at LB or as CM cover which a few believe.

  Jonas will probably be given a start at the begininning of the season, but as he inevitably deteriorates as the season progresses, Anita will slot in quite nicely.

  Jonas has been too loyal and too much of a team player not be given the start.

  Im informed that there was a NUFC presence at all of Japans matches in the olympics and they were eyeing up a defender, a full back but dont know if its a lb or a rb.
  Carr is currently in Japan eyeing up this guy at his own club and discussions could, I repeat could lead to him having a trial.

  I think Ed needs to leave his PC more often! I’m also delighted (and slightly humbled) by the fact that I chose this day to have a little moan about the lack of transfer activity, then we pull Anita out the bag! Love the way all at nufc have the ability to sign players either out of the blue or when it looks as if everything has gone quiet and stale. Good work guys. We still need at least one more signing though so don’t stop just yet!

  Maybe Debuchy will follow but I don’t think we’ll go over the £6/7M mark for him. I’m not a big fan of Pieters or Douglas, and the less said about that blonde Swedish striker the better, so who knows what other targets (if any) we’re pursuing but whatever happens I’m sure Anita will be a great buy. Great value, too. If we could sign a CB and/or a striker then I would be literally jumping for joy.

  Will be interesting to see how we use Anita – what kind of position/game will he feature in – but his versatility will be a big asset. I’d love to see the look on players’ faces when they realise they’re running at a solid human wall made out of Tiote and Anita. Scary stuff!

  I think the Douglas deal is done to be honest! They can’t announce anything on that until he’s done his 5 years in Holland as it will jeopardize it! Reckon Pardew is happy with colo and taylor until september! Somethings amiss there because at the q&a pardew said douglas, anita and carroll were the only 3 players they’d spoken to, yet douglas said he knew nothing of newcastle move, seemed a bit dodgy to me!

  I think it’s a mouth watering knowing that we have the chance to have Anita and Tiote playing just in front of the back 4 with Cabaye pushing on and HBA and Marveaux both playing out wide.   beddersmag, good post in regards to the jonas/santon…hba/simmo thing, but as much as we all love to hate Ashley Cole, and rightly so alot of the time, that man can play football, he’s a quality attacker in my eyes, he got 8 assists last season, which is very good for a full back imo.

  You cant just have a fantasic attacking FB, you need a fantastic wing man who is also good at spotting ahis runs and covering just as well, or its virtually pointless. IMO, although we desperately tried hard to pull that one off, it makes me laugh that we attempted it with simmo and HBA, especially considering Tiote AND Cabs were totally pegged back covering the CB’s. Alright then covering Willo. I would rather the FB did what he should do, because HBA will not be a defender. Ever. So don’t expect it. Plus Simmo cannot get a cross in. Doesn’t anyone else notice that?

  Great news and hopefully means we will be pushing again for debuchy or another more attacking right back that’s comfortable on the ball.

  with anita splitting the center halves wider across the pitch to come and get ball from deep it means both full backs need to be able to play further up the pitch.

  Pardiola really is building a team along the lines of this much talked about Barcelona style ticka tacka style.

  best full back I ever say was Cafu for Brazil! Maldini in his earlier career up until about age 32 offered a lot going forward as well as being amazing defensively! As a german i’d say phillipe lahm is fantastic offensively and defensively! other fullbacks ive seen that were complete, Eric Abidal, Lillian Thuram and Bixente Lizarazu! On a toon side of things, thought jose enrique was strong defending and attacking, also John Beresford was a very good left back!

  Why do people keep putting Douglas ahead of Saylor? Can’t wait to have Stevie T back, he epitomises the fighting spirit of the Toon and is a bloody good CB. I reckon he carries a lot of respect in the dressing room, too. I don’t think we’re looking to replace him, just need better back up than Willo. Could be wrong, of course, but hope not.

  I’m not sure whether Anita will play LB, allowing Santon to replace Simmo at RB, or whether he’ll play alongside Tiote in the middle… or whether he might replace Tiote in European/domestic cup games.   fingers crossed with the medical for anita, terrific signing for us, toondownsouth ur right in my opinion we have to take it a step at a time we are actually ahead of the game after last seasons brilliant effort, i to always think about leeds and what a massive club they were but at this moment mediocre championship team with mediocre players, would we rather of had ken bates or milan mandric or peter ridsdale! let this fella in charge follow his plan an budget, that will also increase as the seasons go on, we are building the club up every day he really is doing a fantastic job, we may get another striker and centre back if not right now then one now and one january at least in my view, i wonder how pompey, leeds, sheff wed, even leicester are feeling comin in to the new season, i suspect they are not as excited as us, we have a team chocka with international and top drawer players so you wont get me moaning about owt, we are in a tremendous position, a team of krul, simpson, santon, colo, saylor, anita, tiote, cabaye, marveaux, demba, cisse. would be a handfull for any team, i am amassive marveaux fan terrific football brain and rarely gives the ball away, bring on spurs and hopefully we can have a near full strength team to put out ,shame benny isnt fit though.

  I agree with Bloody Marveulous, 3-5-2 Formation would be good, Anita&Tiote sitting in front of back 3, then Cabaye focusing on attack along with Marveux and Ben arfa, and that way we can have both Ba and Cisse up front together without chopping and changing, then when we are winning Anita can drop into LB and we have a 4-1-3-2 formation with Tiote in CDM

  Anita seems a decent player–I really like his versatility, especially given the brutal schedule at the beginning of the season + the African Cup of Nations Conundrum in January (Tiote backup). But Debuchy is the real prize here. With him, Anita, Santon, and Jonas, we could have a wealth of riches in the back. But we also need the depth just in case age and injury start taking their toll (Colo, STaylor).

  Happy this went through, but still concerned that we need to do more.

  @ transfer sage – got a couple of mates who are journos, I guarentee you there is a huge difference with what a journo knows and what gets printed regarding local journalists! The problem the chronicle, journal and sunday sun have is that they rely on newcastle exclusives to get the majority of their readers! NUFC under ashley is well known for banning publications and journos who print things they don’t want printed, therefor alot of the time they won’t risk exposing a transfer story and jeopardising it or behind the scenes story and getting banned from toon press conferences etc because effectively it willl be the end of their career! The amount of stuff thats happened in toon in the last few seasons that Mark Douglas knows about and hasn’t printed is astonishing! The worst case being the real reason Ranger won’t play for newcastle again was other 1 thing in particular he did, not sure what it was but it never made it to the newspapers!

  Would like to think that the Debuchy saga isn’t over yet, always thought that he was the one player that the club was desperate to sign but then again maybe they reached their glass ceiling and refused to budge, he is 27 (not old but not really within the transfer policy)

  I think we offered a fair price for him and don’t blame the club for sticking to it, if our interest in Debuchy is over I still think we will upgrade there before the window closes.

  Welbeck – in my opinion – has the potential to be an absolutely world class forward. He’s got every single attribute needed, he’s tall, strong, fast, good in the air, skillful… I hope, for Englands sake, that he doesn’t end up warming the bench forever.

  I am getting slightly excited about Anita -teamed up with Toite – get them to do the aggressive stuff to allow Cabaye a bit more time to pick out a killer pass. A bit like the Italians getting the ball to Pirlo? I think other teams must hate facing Tiote (and Bigi- same type of player) they can run all day and stick to you like glue- you can’t shake them off. Still need to get Debuchy -I think he is a mirror of Santon. Commanding CB is a must also. Whilst the board may have been surprised to finish 5th- ahead of the master plan- I think privately –they know we need to better 5th this time around -otherwise we’re going backwards -to achieve this strengthening is a must. The Rangers interest by Ashley is intriguing – Ashley is foremost a businessman and I suspect up to something cunning.

  Cabaye just needs to be more consistent. He only had 1 excellent game last season, and that was against Villa away.

  I disagree with you about Welbeck. He doesn’t score enough goals and seems to be a bit lightweight. I prefer players like Sturridge, Carroll, Bent and Agbonlahor.

  Players like Carrick, Ashley Young and Rodwell shouldn’t be in the squad. I just don’t rate them. Also we would’ve done much better in the euro’s with Paul Scholes in the team instead of Scott Parker.

  Jonas did OK at full back a couple of times last year, not ideal though, personally wud play Perchinho RB and Santon LB. Agree with the rest of the team, just hope most of our big hitters play.

  Sammi will be gud down the left of a front 3 as well, think Pards early season may play Cisse from the start and replace him with Ba, or maybe not, maybe 442 with Obertan and Raylor, predicting the team for saturday is almost impossible.

  Ibiza – I am not bidding to be reviled in the manner of so called ITK’s but I learnt something of interest( at least to me) yesterday which I will share with you. Take it for what’s it’s worth or don’t take it at all.
  Pardew’s thinking is to take a critical look at the young midfield options available to himin the time between season start and the window closing. If Gosling and others doesn’t cut the mustard he is increasingly attracted to trying to get Mark Davies from Bolton. He has apparently been watched for some time . Just this evening there
  was an announcement that Fabrice Muamba is to retire which could well. Make Bolton reluctant to sell. There apparently has been some
  talk of Simpson going to Bolton in part exchange. Clearly that also
  pre supposes that we get Debuchy or an other .

  Ibitza – i havent gotten around to posting in a while. Still visiting and reading the articles though.
  Halftime score Brazil 1 – 0 Sweden. Toivonen hasn’t been overly involved (only 1 header off taget) but thats to be expected since the swedes arent really attacking much. Brazil are leading proceedings with Sweden mostly counterattacking although they did have 2 big scoring opportunities late in the first half. Hope for better in the second half as i’m rooting for Sweden in this game. Oh…Brazil’s goal was a header from Daimio (or some such…nr9 in any case) after a nice cross from Neimar.

  I also think Van Persie’s joining a team that’s worser than Arsenal. Man Utd would kill to have Anita, Cabaye and Tiote in the centre of the park and Ben Arfa/Marveaux on the wings.

  If we make these 4 alleged signings, I think we can challenge for a top 4 spot. We will still need to strengthen in January by making a further 2/3 additions (i.e. Konate, Denswil etc).

  Looks like Van Persie is pretty much a done deal to Utd, would love to hear some Arsenal fans views on that one. Modric to Madrid too, those two deals could spark some transfer activity. If we defend well Spurs are there for the taking on Saturday. Just need to keep Bale quiet.

  Man Utds striking options would be Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Van persie and Berbatov, thats not including the two young prospects like Powell and Will Keane. Utd have better defenders too, midfield is possibly fairly similar in depth and quality.

  I’m just being honest. Carroll is much more threatening than Welbeck. Welbeck has slightly more pace but that’s it.

  Cabaye was excellent throughout the whole game against Villa.

  I’d rather us go for Remy than Carroll though, but I can see us going for Carroll and Douglas at the last minute. I’m preying to god that we sign Debuchy before Fri. We cannot start the game with Simpson at right-back otherwise it’s game over. Bale will have a field day.

  3 of the teams that will be around us, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool are all very hard to predict, Spurs only have one Striker, but surely will add well with the Modric money. Arsenal have Podolski (overrated), Giroud (unproven in prem) and again need another 2 or 3 signings especially if/when VP leaves. Liverpool again prob are prob short of a winger and striker, maybe another cb.

  So like us, 3-4 signings could make a major difference and the one who makes the right moves in the transfer market could well be the team that finishes 4th.

  The thought of Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool all finishing out of the champs league spots is very nice!!

  Man Utd need a defensive midfielder, 2 centre backs, 1 right back and a left winger. Arsenal just need a centre back, a midfielder and maybe another striker.

  Jonny Evans isn’t good enough and Vidic is always injured. Evra, Nani, Kagawa and Rooney are there best players at the moment. The only players I’d take from Man U would be Rooney, Evra, Nani and maybe Kagawa.

  On the Simmo situation, I would be quite happy to he was our RB from now until January, if he doesn’t sign on the dotted line and accept he will be a back up player then bring in another RB and let him go for nothing next summer, a lot of similarities to the Guthrie situation with the notable exception of a RB that is better than him.

  I don’t think Simmo at RB will be the difference between a CL spot or finishing 8th, a RB simply doesn’t have that kind of impact but as WWYCD rightly pointed out a CB does make a that kind of difference, maybe Pards sees Saylor as the man to move forward and has only ever been looking to bring in a young up and coming CB and has succeeded in doing that by bringing in Curtis Good, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t sign another CB.

  That seems to be the most likely use of him, or Pards could see the need for rotation but I think we’ll see Tiote and Anita play alongside each other in some games this season as Pards has stated that he feels that if you control the midfield battle then you control the game which would make me think he wants to play a midfield three.

  I could be jumping the gun on that one so it will be interesting to see how Pardew sees it.

  I think we have every chance of top 6 finish and really think we can get in contention for 4th, even if we dont get it.

  All our players have had a season together, we have cisse for a full season now, Anita is coming in, the youngens are further on and Amal and Bigi look like they can do a decent job in the squad.

  Arsenal have lost RVP and Song is expected to join barcelon. That was a combo that worked for them last year. RVP is half their goals gone. Will be a big ask for podolski and giroud to settle quickly, could happen but equally might not. Arsenal have a reasonable back 4 but one injury and it crumbles.

  Spurs have no adebeyor or modric now and Parker will be out for the start of the season. Also ledley king has retired and he played in a lot of games last year and contributed to 90% of their clean sheets.

  Liverpool haven’t done anything for me, not really improved in any way.

  Everton havent done much yet either, good, well organised team but seem unable to get a good start to the season.

  I think 4-8 will be Us, liverpool, everton, arsenal and spurs but no idea in what order.

  A more senior figure with top level experience at CB would make me feel a lot better but it is a fine balancing act between putting faith in the youngsters you have at the club or spending cash to immediately improve your starting XI

  Saylor and Colo will be the pairing to start the season off in my opinion, Willo as next senior backup and Tav/Good to try and keep him on his toes/take his place if he underperforms.

  Another CB would push Tav and Good down the pecking order which might be something that Pards doesn’t want to do but I am purely speculating here.

  jayjo, its weird beacuse for me BA always looks dangerous when cisse isnt playing when cisse plays with BA he dosnt look that dangerous and certainly hasnt scored a goal, oh one in their first game together, i think, interesting stat that they did not complete a pass together in the box last season and only two outside the box, quite staggering really, i have to say marveaux is a terrific player and plays down the left, very intelligent skillful and technically superb, maybe we can use him a bit more.,see him as a real player for us.

  Yeah I agree fella, to be fair I always though Tav was a RB and not a CB but in pre-season he has been used at CB so Pards must see him there, or at the very least was testing him there. I still think he just isn’t tall enough to play there and considering that the PL is so physical he could struggle.

  Time will tell and it could be that due to the lack of experience in CB backup that Pards does bring in another more experienced CB but we will just have to wait and see.

  Willo had a tough time of it in some games but don’t you remember the solid partnership he forged with Colo during our first season back in the Prem? I think people are too quick to write the man off, with Good and Tav clippling at his heels it could be exactly the motivation he needs to up his game to that standard again, at the very least he is a very good squad player to have.

  You have asked the million quid question. If Saylor stays fit then all is well with the world but the likelihood is that, even if it isn’t a season ending injury, he will spend some time in the treatment room for bumps and niggles as do all players which is why we need decent backup.

  I think the players we already have at the club are of sufficient quality to see us through. I don’t expect Saylor to be out for the same duration as he was last season so the need for a new CB may not be as great as some people think.

  The only major issue I have will willo and simmo is that they struggle to pick a pass, even a simple one, their defending is adequate.

  It doesn’t help they play next to each other either, it means opposition striker can mark colo and santon so krul can go long or give it to willo/simmo who themselves go long.

  Shame we cant have willo as left sided CB and colo right, but alas they don’t do that position as well.

  He is renowned for having all players ready to play several formations and change during a game depending on he situation so sure pards has a lot of things planned.

  I think everyone is in unanimous agreement that Willo and Simmo are not of sufficient quality to be in our starting XI if we really wish to progress as a club to the next level.

  I also agree that they are decent and it is their passing that lets them down, we need good ball playing defenders in order to play slick passing football and they don’t quite cut the mustard.

  At the same time I am not going to panic if we do not “replace” them, in my mind they do not need replacing, they need upgrading as I still think they both have roles to play at our club and would be sad to see such loyal servants be cast on to the scrap heap after all they have done for us.

  The whole point is whether we think that Saylor can stay fit or not, he hasn’t played a full season in…has he ever? So it probably is fair to expect him to be injured again. It is a shame that even before a ball is kicked we expect Saylor to get crocked! haha

  If the right player, at the right price can improve our first team then I agree, get them signed. Douglas’ temperament and attitude has sometimes been called into question and the whole “bigger clubs than Newcastle are after me” thing kind of ticked me off but I reserve judgment. If Pards and Carr are happy with him and want to sign him then I too am happy.

  I do not think Simpson or Williamson are as bad as people make out. I wouldn’t say they where fantastic players but canny players non the less. I do not want either of them to leave but i do want us to strengthen in them two areas. Williamson and Simmo would be very good squad players and would add some depth if we where to bring in two better players in their areas. I can’t see Simmo being happy siting on the bench so i think it’s highly likely that he will be away anyway.

  I’m not saying we’re going to play like Barcelona, but Mascherano’s unbelievable CB performances over the last 2 seasons really show that height isn’t necessarily key. Conversely, Williamson is pretty tall, and the mental imagine of Victor Moses leaping above him haunts me.

  Always thought he was badly treated at Spurs and would have definitely been a good shout for a number of other clubs in the PL I would more prefer a young striker in the mouth of those you have mentioned, Remy is a ready made striker but someone like Guidetti or Castaignos (is he still available?) would be immense.

  Maybe we could see Vuckic in a more advanced role and play CF? Or maybe Sammy will breakthrough and play there as 3rd choice? Or Adam Campbell could shock us all and be the surprise package of the season.

  It is all a mystery which is why it’s pretty exciting

  jail for ashley, KK was my hero at the toon and left over principles at a time when we as a club had to go in a different direction to the one was told about when he arrived MA lost 600 million quid in 2008 in the banking crash KK could not accept that we had to go in a different direction and the court transcripts show it was all about ignacio gonzalez coming in to the toon without him knowing, for me he should have played the lad in the reserves laid the law down to MA about it and that it cant happen again, and gave them a second chance but KK would not he walked away with 3 million quid, saved his footy school business that was down the pan, he is a principled man but for me to sensitive by far and no other club to my knowledge has gone anywhere near him plus, plus as a principled man and being out of the game for 3 years without watching a game by his own admission he should have turned the toon job down as he was not ready for it but for me money again came to light, i was their when he was on the steps at st james and he looked awfully sheepish about our prospects, i was cheering him on at the time but his principles should have told him he was not ready. bit of double standards for me and i idolised the fella.

  @t00ntime – reckon Man utd taking van persie is a little bit about weakening arsenal a little bit too! If he plays like he did last season he’ll be well worth the money, but if he plays the way he did the 6 seasons before, then not so much! He’s a good finisher though and man utd create a lot more chances! Personally feel Balotelli will be first choice at Man city alot next season, if he finds consitency him and Tevez/aguero is stronger than rooney/rvp!

  t00ntime, yeah but Rooney may be forced to play deeper and RVP may have his inevitable injury season this season…Tevez is sparkling at the moment, he’s loving being back into the first team picture, he’s probably second on the team sheet after kompany, he’s THAT good on his day. Aguero, a guaranteed 20-25+ striker and they already have a partnership formed. Rooney and Van Persie might not hit it off. I think City will still win the league again, united second, then it’s a fight from 3-5 and we could be in for that 5th place again i think.

Arsenal are selling a 29 year old, injury prone player who has scored less than 100 goals in 8 years at Arsenal. he averages about 12 goals a season and is being sold for an 800% profit or something. Let time tell whether this is a good transfer but either way dont regret it. Im sure Arsenal can make that £24m go along way with their scouting system.

  Think the signs were there for Manure. Fergie has toyed with Rooney in the hole this season. So Rooney supporting RVP could work well. BUT think how this could affect Rooney no longer being the focal point in attack. Manure needed another striker really with Berbatov on the way out.

  an ITK is an “in the know”, meaning someone who claims to have exclusive information about the club, transfers, etc.

  For the most part all their information is incredibly inaccurate.

  I hope there’s an official announcement sometime soon, because everything so far seems to be unsubstantiated. All the reports I’ve read seem to say something like “it is understood that”, without any credible source being quoted.

  It’s a pity we don’t have jimmymagpie around any more, because I think he would have been able to let us know whether any medicals had actually been carried out during the last 24 hours. I don’t usually take much notice of people who claim to be ITK, but jimmy always came across to me as sounding 100% genuine, so if he claims to have a contact among the club’s medical staff then I’m inclined to believe him. Unfortunately, because of the attitude of some of the people on here, who started to question his integrity, he decided that he doesn’t want to get involved with this blog any more and, quite frankly, I don’t blame him.

  Jimmy never claimed to be an ITK he just shared the info he had.

  People are inclined to take it for that it is, but for me he was the only one I cared paying attention to.

  I thought he been treated unfairly and I have stated that.

  And I think those in question in time will to…or I really hope so!

  Jesper — I hear that there could be an official signing of Anita today.
  He is an exciting signing a really good player who can move and pick a pass. Gives us so many options and I was not surprised how hard Ajax battled to keep him, he’s only going to improve. Both he and Tim will be fixtures in the Dutch side before too long.

  Jesper and Chris g jimmy wasn’t an itk? I’ve been comin on this blog for four years now and had many run ins with jimmy. Mainly coz he claims he loves Newcastle and all he ever does is whinge. Hr has said soooo many things will happen and they didn’t the only one he got right was Enrique but I think the writing was on the wall with that one. If U ever fancy wasting some hours look through all the comments round every transfer window he IS an itk. U know, he could be right that he knows someone who works there or that some bloke in a pub told him but that doesn’t mean that the fabrications are true. Sorry but as jimmy probably knows i really dont like his negativity or what appears to be lies. I’m glad he doesn’t pitch in regarding transfers any more

  Jesper- no just down for the day. Rain is forecast but it get’s me out of the frenzy of the if’s and but’s of pre- season. I am a sports fan but don’t get quite the same buzz as being at SJP. The start of a new season full of optimism …… Paddy Power 12/1 for us to finish in top four. Looks attractive. Priority for me , league , because financially that would secure finance but more importantly our star players

  A source can neve be revealed as if it was they would be fired or have their connection with tw club cut.

  The only way to judge is if the source gets enough right for it not to be luck in guessing. Sky sports are usually goo with this, my source…not so much haha

  Debuchy and Douglas will be the hopeful arrivals by end of transfer window! We need them!

  Simpson and Williamson no matter what anyone says are not good enough to be playing week in week out. They are backup at best, possibly even back up to the back up!
