I just got back from taking my daughter into Raleigh, and that ploy seems to have worked as intended (laugh), because the reports are that Vurnon is now having his medical on Tyneside, so we should have an announcement shortly that he has signed for Newcastle United – that’s great news.
Vurnon Anita – undergoing medical on Tyneside
It’s Sky Sports that is reporting that Vurnon is now undergoing his medical at St. James’ Park, so the little talk he had with manager Alan Pardew about what role he would play in the Newcastle team, must have gone well and to to his satisfaction.
The Magpies reached a deal with his club Ajax a few days ago on a fee of €8.5m (£6.6M) and he wanted to have a talk with Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, and it seems his wages have also been agreed.
There was some concern that the fee wanted by his agent Mino Raiola may have been too high at around £1.5M, but that also seems to have been solved because the next step, given that he passes his medical is to sign the contract, which is rumored to be for a full five years.
And Raiola has been true to his reputation, by pushing through the deal quickly, since he only got Vurnon as a client last week – hey time is money in football too. 😀
It took a long time coming, but this is another excellent signing by Newcastle and even cheap at the price of £6.6M for a top player who can play in different positions, and he could even make his first team debut on Saturday against Spurs at home.
The 23-year-old Dutch International can play at left-back or in defensive midfield, and Newcastle have been after him for a few months now – but it will have been worth the wait.
We’ll now wait for the official announcement from Newcastle on their web-site.
It will occur some time between 6:30pm and 8:30pm Newcastle time, because that’s when I will be away from my PC transporting my daughter to another of her business appointments, things happen that way somehow.
We’ll get this transfer wrapped up today, and then what are the chances we can complete the Debuchy deal by Saturday? 😀
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #42Great news. Although personally I think a CB an CF should of been are primary target.

Comment #43Considering that the chain of thought that Anita will come in as a DM to sit and hold alongside Tiote whilst rampaging full backs act as wingers leaving Benny, Cabs and Marveaux to create is likely correct, do you think the club is confident that we can sign another WB?
I can’t see them spending so much on Anita to waste him at LB or as CM cover which a few believe.

Comment #46AmericanGeordie…I think you’re right, … eventually
Jonas will probably be given a start at the begininning of the season, but as he inevitably deteriorates as the season progresses, Anita will slot in quite nicely.
Jonas has been too loyal and too much of a team player not be given the start.

Comment #47Just want to post my ITK, its only a rumour and heresay but have posted previously with no response, Im also abit aware about bloggers on here giving me grief but thought, why not, if true I can always refer back to this comment and say I told you so. A chance to get my name in lights lol.
Im informed that there was a NUFC presence at all of Japans matches in the olympics and they were eyeing up a defender, a full back but dont know if its a lb or a rb.
Carr is currently in Japan eyeing up this guy at his own club and discussions could, I repeat could lead to him having a trial.
Can you please note Im older than Jimmy so be gentle with the abuse esp beattie. only joking.

Comment #49I think Ed needs to leave his PC more often! I’m also delighted (and slightly humbled) by the fact that I chose this day to have a little moan about the lack of transfer activity, then we pull Anita out the bag! Love the way all at nufc have the ability to sign players either out of the blue or when it looks as if everything has gone quiet and stale. Good work guys. We still need at least one more signing though so don’t stop just yet!
Maybe Debuchy will follow but I don’t think we’ll go over the £6/7M mark for him. I’m not a big fan of Pieters or Douglas, and the less said about that blonde Swedish striker the better, so who knows what other targets (if any) we’re pursuing but whatever happens I’m sure Anita will be a great buy. Great value, too. If we could sign a CB and/or a striker then I would be literally jumping for joy.
Will be interesting to see how we use Anita – what kind of position/game will he feature in – but his versatility will be a big asset. I’d love to see the look on players’ faces when they realise they’re running at a solid human wall made out of Tiote and Anita. Scary stuff!

Comment #50Who would be happier with debuchy or Douglas by end of window?
I pik Douglas, think cb more Important. Debuchy would be better than Simpson but Simpson steady enough.

Comment #51I think the Douglas deal is done to be honest! They can’t announce anything on that until he’s done his 5 years in Holland as it will jeopardize it! Reckon Pardew is happy with colo and taylor until september! Somethings amiss there because at the q&a pardew said douglas, anita and carroll were the only 3 players they’d spoken to, yet douglas said he knew nothing of newcastle move, seemed a bit dodgy to me!

Agree, CB more important than FB, because history tells Saylor will struggle with injuries.

Comment #53I think it’s a mouth watering knowing that we have the chance to have Anita and Tiote playing just in front of the back 4 with Cabaye pushing on and HBA and Marveaux both playing out wide. Having said that, i want to see both Cisse and Ba on the pitch lol. Would love to know what Pardew has up his sleeve.

Comment #55beddersmag, good post in regards to the jonas/santon…hba/simmo thing, but as much as we all love to hate Ashley Cole, and rightly so alot of the time, that man can play football, he’s a quality attacker in my eyes, he got 8 assists last season, which is very good for a full back imo.

Comment #57You cant just have a fantasic attacking FB, you need a fantastic wing man who is also good at spotting ahis runs and covering just as well, or its virtually pointless. IMO, although we desperately tried hard to pull that one off, it makes me laugh that we attempted it with simmo and HBA, especially considering Tiote AND Cabs were totally pegged back covering the CB’s. Alright then covering Willo. I would rather the FB did what he should do, because HBA will not be a defender. Ever. So don’t expect it. Plus Simmo cannot get a cross in. Doesn’t anyone else notice that?

Be interesting to see if that develops. Do you know if this is scouting for first team or development squad? I hear you say it’s nothing concrete, but is this person at all reliable or likely to know what’s happening?

Comment #63Great news and hopefully means we will be pushing again for debuchy or another more attacking right back that’s comfortable on the ball.
with anita splitting the center halves wider across the pitch to come and get ball from deep it means both full backs need to be able to play further up the pitch.
Pardiola really is building a team along the lines of this much talked about Barcelona style ticka tacka style.
lets hope come end of the window…

Simpson – STaylor – Colo – Santon
Jonas – Tiote – Gosling – Marveaux
Ba – Cisse
This would be my team vs Spurs. I would think it will most likely be the team too! I would leave Anita on the bench until 2nd half. He is new to our team, style of play, PL I would be suprised if he starts on Saturday.

Sky News is normally a reliable source!
Still won,t believe untill an official announcement is made?
Normally at this stage, summit appens and the whole transfer goes Tits-Up!
Lets just not make any stupid extra clauses in his contract!
Like release clauses or anything to do with a playing Permit !
Cupid ? We aint got the Financial Balls like Shitty or Jetski have! At Least not Yet !

Comment #71best full back I ever say was Cafu for Brazil! Maldini in his earlier career up until about age 32 offered a lot going forward as well as being amazing defensively! As a german i’d say phillipe lahm is fantastic offensively and defensively! other fullbacks ive seen that were complete, Eric Abidal, Lillian Thuram and Bixente Lizarazu! On a toon side of things, thought jose enrique was strong defending and attacking, also John Beresford was a very good left back!

That epitomises the true way to talk about possible transfers and inside information.
You didn’t create a massively misleading back story and even admitted it could be wrong.
That is wonderfully refreshing to read and I for one believe you and am excited to hear more news in the future.

Comment #74Oldgit – I’m sure there were rumblings during Euro 2012 about us possibly being interested in the Japanese skipper and centre half?! Lads on here spoke very highly of him and commercial factors aside – could well be a great signing for this club! May well have some truth in it!

Comment #77Why do people keep putting Douglas ahead of Saylor? Can’t wait to have Stevie T back, he epitomises the fighting spirit of the Toon and is a bloody good CB. I reckon he carries a lot of respect in the dressing room, too. I don’t think we’re looking to replace him, just need better back up than Willo. Could be wrong, of course, but hope not.
