With only two weeks left in this summer’s transfer window, we put out an article earlier today wondering what would happen with Danny Simpson, since he still hasn’t signed his new contract, which has been on the table for over a year now, and he has only one year left on his current deal at Newcastle.

We’d be very surprised if Danny doesn’t start the game at right back for Newcastle tomorrow against Tottenham Hotspur, and add to the 112 appearances he has already made for the Magpies over the last three seasons.
And it will probably depend on whether Newcastle can bring in Mathieu Debuchy over the next two weeks, that will decide whether Danny stays on Tyneside, or is sold before September 1st rolls around.
Manager Alan Pardew has talked about Danny’s situation in the Evening Chronicle today:
“He has a good attitude. Things were not great for him.” “He only has one year left and the contract we offered him he did not think it was right.” “We have not had a bid which has been right for him, so he has stayed here.”
“He has to earn a contract with us – or with another Premier League club which he will get.” “So we will have to wait and see.” “His attitude, though, has been first-class.”
Both Reading and Fulham were interested in the player earlier this summer, but we don’t think Danny will be short of clubs coming in for him, if Debuchy does arrive at Newcastle, especially since the transfer fee is probably only around £2M.
We’d love to see Danny have a change of heart and stay on Tyneside, and sign his new contract, whether or not Mathieu Debuchy comes on board.
But it’s completely up to Danny, and we don’t think he’ll get too much more money at another club, and Newcastle are starting to go places too – and we have been rumored to have offered him £30K/week – which is not too bad at all.
I’d take one week of those wages anytime.
But as we said it’s now completely up to Danny boy.
