Alan Pardew Apologizes For Pushing Official

8:42 pm, Saturday, August 18th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 303 Comments

Alan Pardew could well get a fine and also a suspension, after he was seen to push the referee’s assistant when the assistant didn’t flag for the ball being out of play on the touchline, and Spurs made a quick attack with Newcastle short at the back.

Alan Pardew – pushed official in second half

It happened in the second half after about an hour, and the ball did look out, but you cannot do that kind of thing to the officials, and Alan will likely get some kind of penalty from the English FA.

Alan went into the stands and initially sat next to Managing Director Derek LLambias,  and tried to get a walkie talkie working to communicate with the Assistant Manager John Carver, but Alan seemed to give up on that – so much for advanced technology.

In the end, Alan got his instructions relayed to John via officials running down the to the bench with Alan’s instructions, but from now on surely we can have  a walkie talkie that works, just in case the Newcastle manager has another rush of blood on the touchline.

Alan told ESPN after the game today:

“It was ridiculous really, I have to apologise publicly, I’ve been to see the officials already.”  “I’ve been telling my players this week to behave and have the Olympic spirit. I can only apologise. It was stupid. I don’t know what I was thinking.”

A fine, a touchline ban or both could now follow from the Football Association.

Comment welcome.

Pardew wasn’t even looking at the official when he ‘pushed’ him. Nothing to it. The nonsense with the broken headset was hilarious though.

No doubt it’ll be a 100 game touchline ban, and a £5,000,000 fine.

  • 3 BelfastMagpie87 // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:45 PM

    Probably a ban & a fine from the w****** at the F.a…

I had forgotten AP said this:

    Chris Conway ?@Chris_Conway
Eric Pieters was apparently spotted at St James’ Park today. Pardew said today that the next signing might surprise. Is he it? #NUFC

  • 5 Eddie // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:46 PM

tds: this is the respect our lot earned last season – the spuds would’ve been ecstatic with a draw.

Pleased to see perch play like he does, iron in the belly for the toon today. Gutierrez and santon look dangerous and well balanced on that side and anita has a big turn of pace, looks like he’s gonna suprise us all to be fair

  • 11 jayphoto // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:48 PM

all in all, if we turn last seasons defeats into draws and last seasons draws into wins we’ll win the title! 2 points up on the spurs home came from last season….. :-) we’ll do well to match the win at stamford bridge last season tho

@Beattie25 – yeah, thought liverpool trying to play the barcelona way was a bit like getting donkeys to do dressage! Saying that, was at that game today and west brom were very very good, mulumbu is an absolute beast and Yacob looked useful! Lukaku is huge too, didnt realise how big, for a 19year old he looks 30!

not surprised Pardew took a wobbler i could see the ball was out from level 7 and i had my eyes closed so how the pri*k missed it is beyond me, but if MR Atkinson had not sent Pardew to the stands he would not have given the pen mind i do admit to being slightly biased in this matter

    Beattie

I’ve been telling everyone that it was Martinez’s team for months now, every time people were raving about him. It’s SO much easier to implement philosophy when you’re in League One and there’s no pressure on you to win games.

Amusingly his Swansea side couldn’t find the net because of his conservative tactics, and they just scored 5 away from home under Laudrup.

  • 35 Beattie25 // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:55 PM

Is anyone else excited at the prospect of Anita, Tiote and Cabaye??

I’ve been saying for months, it’s going to be brilliant.

  • 37 pbNcl // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:56 PM

Defo right about big man benny and santon haha, that’s jus way too quick on the draw haha

  • 38 lukes26 // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:56 PM

That was a highly enjoyable game. Not necessarily for the offensive showing.

You had intrigue at the very beginning..Where is Marveaux? Then Pardew assaults the lineman, proving it’s not just ball boys who are unsafe when on the sidelines. Pardew and all the old people around him prove they don’t know how to use phones. Saylor makes an ingenious use of his head to prevent a corner kick.

    oh and newcastle won.

  • 39 Beattie25 // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:57 PM

agree completely on Pieters…yeah he can cover CB but that doesn’t mean he’s any good. there is so much better out there that are in that price bracket

disagree about Pards though. he was totally in the wrong. Let’s not what scum fans did during the Suarez debacle, please…

yeah this is different but he was in the wrong totally. don’t defend him blindly

  • 42 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Aug 18, 2012 at 8:57 PM

  • 47 ToonDownSouth // Aug 18, 2012 at 9:00 PM

    mattyNUFC

He was wrong, but let’s not make out he shoved anyone over or commited assault.

Yes, the rules are that you should not lay a hand of the referee. I’d have that as a sending off all day long. But let’s not over react.

As I said, he wasn’t even looking at the linesman. Have you seen his post match interview? It’s not like he’s claiming he was in the right. He apologised immediately, both to the official in question and the public.

just got in from the game good 3 points my 4 year old loved it. for me Perch man of the match he was great and deserved it. however Simpson positioning was very poor the goal was his fault he was about 15 yards away from Lennon which didnt allow simpson to position himself to stop the cross.

  • 54 dave 1961 // Aug 18, 2012 at 9:03 PM

i forgot about that one Liverpool 16/1 to win premier league we are 150/1 am i going mad or are the rat eaters more likely to win it because they won things in the 80′s you talk about living in the past, these bookies don’t bury their heads in sand they bury then in sh*te. and Simpson had a decent game as most of the team did, no all of the team had a good game. and if Taylor stays injury free hes heading for the England team. apparently he quality’s because he was born in London.

I’m no expert, but I’ve seen him probably 9 or 10 times, and he’s only impressed me a couple. I’m sure he’s a capable defender, but if people want attacking fullbacks, Pieters isn’t the answer!

I doubt there’s anything in it anyway – he’s injured, and good mates with Timmy.

We’re clearly not quite there yet, but you could see that they’re working on it in training and making a concious effort to keep the ball better.

  • 83 magpie6699 // Aug 18, 2012 at 9:20 PM

I’m glad Pardew apologised for pushing the linesman – he should have hit him with his white stick! Incompetent oaf!
Am I the only one who thought Jonas did a lot of unsung hard work today – seems to have had no mention? Benny was Benny – occasional absolute brilliance, occasionally frustrating – and did a lot more covering than I’ve seen – he seemed really up for the game.
Only a brief cameo from Anita – but he showed some pace and skill down the left wing a couple of times which hints at real ability.

know its a toon blog and dnt really like to dignify the scousers with attention, but got a close up look at them today! They have a few huge problems if they are to play the 4-3-3 system they were playing.
One huge problem is Gerrard, he was counter productive today, still trying hollywood balls, he plays for himself, i don’t think he’s disciplined enough for the tika-taka style!
The other problem was suarez, aside from the fact he is a simply awful finisher, he kept wondering from the centre and ofter they had no central focal point! Think they’ll be a long way from 4th place!

What a fantastic start to the season, really optamistic with this season, really annoyed that yet again all the pundits dont rate us.
Will be interesting if we were to get pieters, how much for?? 3/4 million
Does this mean we still have some more cash available to spend? What is our budget?? 20/25 million?
We’ve spent nearly 8 million, got 3 million for besty and offloaded smith who was on 50/60k per week.
Is Alan Pardew trying to throw another smokescreen? The other day when he said one more possibly in.
    Is that a ploy??
    3 million pieters
    4 million douglas
7.7 million for bigi and Anita
    10 million fo Remy
    total 25 million
    -money for besty 22million
Or do we just go for debuchy and Remy??
    Would rather Remy than Carroll.
We need cover at CB though, perchino did well today mind. Danny also put in a decent shift, do we go for Debuchey in Jan?

  • 128 mot7 // Aug 18, 2012 at 9:47 PM

no carrol please the defance and tiote will constantly look to play long balls to him missing out our best players .we mugged the scousers so lets not help them out by taking him back.we should buy a forward that can play football on the grass. some pace would be nice aswell .

  • 129 bills-son // Aug 18, 2012 at 9:47 PM

Perch did well today, good to see some fans recognising how good his passing is. Perch really impresses me, he is technically way better than he’s given credit for and a fast learner in the different positions he’s played in. Anita looked class, him and Tiote are gonna be great together and Cabaye will show his true skills in front of them.

To beat spurs with a half fit team is a good start, need fitness up quickly tho, complete reserve team for thursday, 1st choice 11 stay at home.

Still need CB and someone with pace up front or wide left especially. Spurs defence pushed right up and we had no threat in behind as we arent quick enough.

Overall though we beat our rivals, good job.

Remember when ben thatcher ran half a mile and forearmed pedro mendez back into 1921, and when joey barton tried to spark out 15 members of man city’s team last day of the season. Rio ferdinand chock ice carry on and harry redknapp’s dodgy tax returns. Then we have balotelli and platini.

Alan pardew does not need making an example of and if the fa fcuk around with him I’m driving down for a chat chat chat

  • 149 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 18, 2012 at 9:56 PM

The above list would only cost around £32m and then we’d have the ultimate squad.

It’s better to have more competition as it will force players like Gutierrez etc to play their best knowing that they’d get dropped if they didn’t.

Koura, Denswil and Konate are all young talents and would come on leaps and bounds if they signed for us.

We don’t really need Cissokho if we sign Debuchy, however it’s worth putting a cheeky £5m bid in for him as Lyon are desperate to get rid of him. He would be the first left-footed full-back at the club.

We need another attacking midfielder so Sissokho may fit the bill.

I’m hoping we go for Douglas and Remy this month.

Abeid, Amalfitano, Bigirimana and Good can be utilised for the Europa and maybe a few league games.

Abeid has the most potential at the moment and was unlucky not to be starting today.

Hopefully we will get £5m from the sales of Simpson, Williamson and Shola. That will make it a net of £27m.

    Beattie

Rodgers appears to be just as good at handling Big Andy as Kenny was.

They were 3-0 down, and needed to make serious changes – so he brings on Joe Cole. Then Joe Cole got injured after 5 minutes (shocker), so EVENTUALLY he brings on Carroll with 10 minutes left.

It’s just one more game to be chucked on the ‘Carroll has x goals in y games’ bashing, but what do they expect him to do?

I actually think the though of Suarez and a similar player, either side of Carroll, is quite a formidable prospect.

So, Pieters is at the stadium, saying; “dunno, possibly” about signing. Carroll gets escorted into a different car and does not go on the team bus.
Interesting. That’s all it is, just… Interesting.

  • 199 lukes26 // Aug 18, 2012 at 10:26 PM

Suarez is one of the more overrated players in the PL. He has obvious talent, but always needlessly tries to beat players rather than shooting or making simple passes.

I think it’s ingrained in his personality to prove he’s better than everyone else.

Xisco? Why the hell are we discussing Xisco? I smell Kets at work.

  • 202 ochytoon // Aug 18, 2012 at 10:27 PM

Anyone else hoping Rodgers is the first manager to get the sack? Can’t stand the bloke (and not just because he manages Liverpool). The guy clearly has no transfer ethics as displayed in his pursuits of Allen, Sigurdson and Dempsey. No room for people like that in football in my opinion.

That’s genuinely pathetic. They probably paid upwards of £40 in the hope of seeing us lose. I mean, at least pick a game against City that we’re actually very likely to struggle in.

What was the atmosphere like in the stadium? On TV it sounded incredibly flat – completely silent at times. Both teams were very defensive, slow and pretty poor, so I can understand why. Obviously I’m not going to criticise fans when I’m not there myself ;)

Fair play to the Spuds though, they sang throughout the game – feel bad for the fans who couldn’t get tickets because of the Mackems. Mind, once we started playing football in the second half, the Gallowgate and Strawberry corner picked up and actually got the East Stand (!) singing.

Indeed, it’s always slightly embarassing hearing the ‘Where’s your famous atmosphere’. I’ve only been to St James’ once – and it was a European game, so the atmosphere was fantastic.

There were times last season when I was so proud of everyone there – the Liverpool game springs to mind. The atmosphere was f’ing terrifying! I thought everyone would be up for it, being the first game and all.

To be fair though, Spurs set out to subdue and silence the crowd, and fair play to the, it worked.

  • 260 Munster Mag // Aug 18, 2012 at 11:48 PM

TDS, I think Michu ( on that performance ) looks good enough for us, all day long. In fairness, Carr knows his stuff, but he looks a gem of a signing. If he was French he would have been under the NUFC microscope….

Pleased to see arrogant Mark Hughes suffer. I always railed at the journalist who said we were crazy to have KK back – that we should instead have got a “proper” manager like Hughes. And of course he famously resigned , to get the Villa job, until the chairman saw through him…. ….knob.

  • 267 HBA Blood Twister // Aug 18, 2012 at 11:58 PM

I disagree about Santon. He’s still very young and has a lot to learn I agree, but he comes from a great pedigree and has shown in the champions league he can shackle the very best wingers. (Ronaldo). In time I think he’ll be one of the best. Not many players are likened to legends like Maldini at 17/18.

The atmosphere was really poor for loads of last season bar the liverpool game and the man u game, even at the sunderland game the atmosphere died for most of the match. I dont understand it, best atmosphere ive ever experiecned was the 4-4 arsenal, but its never been really good since then. were really letting ourselves down, away fans come up here expecting the best atmosphere in the country and you would probably get more noise at craven cottage or villa park most times. haway, we need to sort it out. where do you get a hold of those vuvuzelas. ;)

Oh right I thought there was an article or an interview where he was quoted saying it.

I still think we are in the market for one maybe two more players before the end of the window and I really think that AC will come back to the club, if not this window then the next one.

  • 279 Small World // Aug 19, 2012 at 12:13 AM

From where I sit (NW corner) the atmosphere was fine, certainly by modern day standards. It was quite noisy and lot of folks having a bit of sing song. It was certainly helped by the Spurs guys, though maybe it was a Sunderland infiltration. I still don’t believe that, they don’t have the wits to organise it :0)

I thought that HBA generally played well, especially after tracking back and helping out – though bizarrely he ignored the right hand flank for almost all of the 1st half, which made us strangely lop sided. Jonas played his usual sweating buckets for the team type of role, so in a game of no real stand out performances for me took MOM.

Santon will be fine if played on the right, he’s so one footed so as to be hardly true and the mix up for Spurs goal wouldn’t have occurred if he had to defend the other post and not have to work out which foot to use.

All in all a good start to the season. I expect the team to be more in their stride once Villa trundle up to SJP in a couple of weeks.

  • 280 Thump // Aug 19, 2012 at 12:15 AM

@Conaldo: It’s an awkward one, mate. Up in L7 or in the Gallowgate, you’re the odd one out for NOT singing but anywhere else and you feel like a bit of a prat. That said, me and my mate sang ourselves raw as usual – even got a wave from big Tim!

@TDS: Agreed! There needs to be more an emphasis on atmosphere. When we’re winning, the atmosphere is massive but when we aren’t it all goes a bit too quiet. Wonder if it’s worth getting some of the fan groups to have a pop at bringing the noise back?

  • 281 cupiddstunt // Aug 19, 2012 at 12:15 AM

    stevie101182 @ # 52

Well said this post qualifies you as the winner of the stupidest post of the day, and believe me you have to go some to collect that accolade on here.

I take it the fact Defoe was offside has nothing to do with it??

Three other defenders were within a stride of Defoe and failed to block him has nothing to do with goal?????

Santon who cuts across the front of Tim and almost scores an own goal but merely deflects the ball into Tim has nothing to do with the goal.

No no none of that matter all you see is Simpson was 15 yds away thus he was responsible.

By the way there were >b>three yes THREE NUFC players within Three yds of Lennon when he made the cross but all a braindead bigot like you can see is Simpson was 15 yds away.

I see you’re still a little angry fella, has the victory not taken the edge off?

Some people will never warm to Simmo, no matter how well he does, and for the record I thought after an initial wobbly start he was excellent.

Others just do not think he is good enough for the Toon, hopefully he will win them over much like Perch has won over a lot of his detractors.

  • 283 Small World // Aug 19, 2012 at 12:21 AM

MIuster Mag @257 – Yep I’d have Enrique back. I reckon Santon will settle in, though taking some time like Enrique or Colo. If Enrique was back, Id certainly pick square pegs for square holes and know which I’d play left and which would go right.

cupidstunt is correct. It happened right in front of me and I was baffled as to why nobody did a damn thing but Tim.

@TDS: I’d say it is. At least in regards to the singing section (though it’s more of a mumble on the pitch – the Gallowgate and East Stand is the best place to sing from an acoustic sense. The Gallowgate especially due to it’s sloped roof. There was a bit of a headache early last year regarding the lads who relocated from L7 to Strawberry Corner getting a lot of stick from the stewards. All in all the atmosphere has more or less been on a steady decline since the redevelopment of the stadium – the place is just too big to really get a consistent noise going. By the time the Gallowgate songs have reached Leazes, it’s all a bit out of time. A damn shame given that Leazes was effectively our “kop” once upon a time :(

  • 288 bills-son // Aug 19, 2012 at 12:42 AM

Cupid – your wasting your time on Simmo. The blinkered criticisers are typical of fans who take a dislike to a player and only ever see the worst and ignore anything that contradicts their opinion. The same fans think Santon is a class defender. Fact is both players are not as bad – Simmo – or as good – Santon – as the sterotype comments.

have to say the simpson thing bothers me even the prick Waddle earlier would say oh that was great play by lennon or nale or sigurdsson and then when danny would intercept or make a good tackle ir was bad play by the spurs man instead of good play by simmo

    Ruddy @ # 281

:) :) Told you last night I rarely if ever get angry had you been able to see the expression on my face while I was typing that post you would see what I mean.

Was my eldest daughter’s birthday mid week so took her out to get her a prezzie and spent the rest of the day with her and the grandkids was able to watch the game on telly, was not overly impressed with the performance today but ground out the right result and that is all that matters.

Then got back home put the puter on to catch up on the threads and came across that moronic bellends post trying to blame one player for a series of errors that culminated in a wrongly given goal, became somewhat irked so composed my reply to his effort and was smiling while I was typing it.

I take it you were happy enough with the result but felt the performance a little wanting as well?

At the end of the day most of us call it as we see it, I’m not a big fan of Simpson and I’ll openly admit that. I will also Admit that I wasn’t overwhelmed with perch when he came but since his performances have got better so have my thoughts about him. I have no qualms about him being 3rd choice centre back now, big shout to him after today. Simmo is a rb and should have been tighter to Lennon for their goal but the goal shouldnt have stood. From the gallowgate it was hard to see initially and looked like a scramble.

Match of the day showed santon allowing Lennon to get a cross in and play his part in their goal but they didn’t show how many long balls he intercepted and how well he positioned his body which I’m sure anyone who watched the full 90 will have noticed. We beat a team who finished fourth last year with pretty much the same nufc team as last year and only conceded one harsh goal. So credit to all the team, Simpson, perch, santon and Anita for playing their part.

Seen suggestions Ba and Ben arfa have issues and that Anita should be in the starting eleven. I don’t think Anita showed enough today to be in the eleven in someone else’s places. I think we need to ease him in and it would be harsh to drop any of Ba, cisse, Ben arfa, tiote, cabaye and Jonas for him so soon. Ba and Ben arfa looked fine, granted Ba wanted the penno but he went over a congratulated arfa and it looked like arfa really appreciated ba letting him take it. I think they both understood what it meant to each other.

Credit to all the lads for dealing with a tricky team with pacey players like walker, bale and lennon. Very happy with the result. Spurs made the atmosphere a little subdued but from the gallowgate I could only hear us singing and didn’t hear them once So they cannot of been that loud.

    Bill-son

Pards is going to fight Kets for his job as he knows who the manager really is.

@bills-son (287): This post just goes to show how ridiculously out of touch you truly are. Every single pos– oh, I can’t do it – I agree completely. Simmo is a decent defender, Santon is not all that good (although he does have his moments of excellence – he just likes to go forward way too often). Both will mature and come good, people just like to use Simmo as the scapegoat for some reason.

For what it’s worth, Simmo had an almost faultless game. Some questionable decisions (I actually can’t remember any specific incidents off the top of my head but it was usually a bad pass) but overall he had a decent game. The stick that lad gets is completely unfounded. I have always been, and will always be, a Simmo supporter.

    Howay the Simmo!

good game today, guttierez put in one hell of a shift ( his crossing was poor but he worked his socks off) and ba proved he can score whilst playing on the left ( even when he’s fasting). Does anyone know why captain collo was absent?, I really hope its not serious, that would be just our luck, saylor back and collo out. Anita looked amazeing on his debut, he’s got serious pace and can pick out a good pass and with the many youngsters ready to break thr ough I think we are one cb, one rb, and one st away from being a top four team. man I’m exited to see what we can do this season, let’s just hope there’s a few more players on there way to sjp.
