Alan Pardew Hints At More Newcastle Signings Before September

It was terrific to finally get Vurnon Anita on Tyneside, and he certainly looks a great acquisition and good value in the transfer market at just £6.6M, but some of us are now wondering whether Newcastle can bring in one or two more players before September 1st rolls around,  which is in two weeks time.

Mathieu Debuchy – Lille have decision to make

Alan has talked today about the opportunities that may arise towards the end of this transfer window, and that’s because that’s when push comes to shove and clubs are forced to make decisions  in the transfer window before it ends, and why most deals are done in late August.

Newcastle still have some targets they’d like to sign,  but have been unable to agree a fee for them with their clubs, but that may change late in August as clubs review the offers they have had for their players, and possibly decide to accept them.

This is what Alan told the local press today:

“I think there’s a possibility of one more because I always think towards the end of the window,  opportunities arise and something might just fall our way which is right for us.”

“Players, agents and clubs are quite rightly holding on, holding on and holding on,  but at some point clubs have to make decisions, because they need money or the finance or they need to move the player on.”

“Maybe the player’s demands come down and then that’s a good opportunity, not just for us, but for the whole of the Premier League.”  “A lot of us have been sitting on our hands a little bit waiting for that opportunity to arise.”

“Probably our best business is keeping the ones we’ve got.”

What Alan says there applies to at least two of Newcastle’s targets this summer – Mathieu Debuchy and Andy Carroll.

Lille will have a decisison to make over the next couple of weeks on whether they want to keep an unhappy player in Mathieu Debuchy in their ranks, especially since the French International has been a model professional  for the French club and played in their first team since back in 2004.

And it’s the same with Andy Carroll, because are Liverpool really going to keep Carroll at the club, if manager Brendan Rodgers doesn’t see the Geordie striker as part of his future plans?

And we don’t know if Newcastle are really interested in 25 year-old Marseilles striker Loic Remy, they used to be, and  his contract runs out next summer, and if he is not moved on before September, his price will go down,  as the end of his contract approaches, and he becomes a free agent next summer.

Remy is another player Newcastle could possibly bring in before September, but that would be a surprise if it happens – but a nice surprise.

What do you think?

Also Ed, Remy signed for Marseille on a 5 year deal back in 2010 so he’s got another 3 years left mate

Has to be Debuchy that we are still pursuing which would be great.

I still feel we need a FB and CB to seriously challenge the top 4-5 this season, it would be such a shame to fall short by 1-2.

An injury to Saylor or Collo and we’re significantly weakened.

How bad is Debuchy’s injury? If he is out for several weeks I can’t see us going for him unless his price is knocked right down.

I think Williamson can be ok cover.

The problem comes when we lose 2 centre backs and we have to use perch (not a natural there) or a less experienced youngster.

We are not going to be great if all we do is scout for bargain. It is not a lasting strategy and it pisses the selling teams off especially when you brag about your ability to turn the players around and sell them high. The amount of time it took to get one first team player in at a saving of at best €1M is nothing to be cheerful about if all it does is to give you a bad name in the footballing business.

The biggest improvement I would like to see this season is to stop getting humped by conceding 2 or 3 goals in a 20 min period.
The 15 clean sheets last season were great, but too often we got battered through poor defending not because we were the worst side.

pardew just made a statement on the official site saying we are in great shape and can,t wait to get going so i can,t see us having many injuries for the game today, if we were missing cabaye tiote cisse and ba then thats not great shape, bring on the spuds

I think if your really analyse Pardews comments he means to say he thinks we’ll get one more player in regardless of the situation and then if the above applies we may get more than 1.

Or is that just wishful thinking??

We are not a small team by any measurement standard. Our support base is large and only need to be built on. Effort should go toward strengthening our appeal to asia and the middle east, where the new money is. Ash, pls dont run this team the same way you will run west ham, southampton and their likes. 50,000 fans for home games is not the hallmark of a small team.

I think this season will b an eventful one. Hopefully we can mainatin top 6 spot and have at leat one good cup run e.g. Final/semi-final.
Can anyone else see us not achieving this because our centre backs get injured. I think if anyone comes in now it has to be a centre back. IMO more important than Debuchy (although I’d like him to) I think January might be the time we get him if we are in a good league position and still in cups.

If we only sign one more player then it has to be Mbwia, as he can play all across the back four.

Good luck telling a man who went from a small shop to the largest sports chain in the uk how to do business.

He doesn’t have a lot of friends in business or football but the man knows what he is doing.

He has always surrounded himself with experts. Dennis wise was meant to be but proved useless so he went for Carr. He can run a business very well.

Even if as a fan we would like more investment in players

out of all the players we’ve been linked with i’d like douglas. williamsons a perfectly good squad player despite what some people on here say about him, and taylors good when he’s fit but i just think we rely on colo far too much.

remy aswell and i think we could have a really strong squad.

I’m a bit surprised there isn’t more people screaming about the striker situation. I know it will be tough for Nigeria to get through against the ivory coast , but stranger things have happened. If they do get through , and they then do well , we could be stuck with just ameobe for the best part of 2 months. That scares the life out of me!!!

Did anyone hear talksport during yesterday’s match???? Erik peters was at st James park… So the Debuchy deal looks more unlikely. Douglas won’t sign will the last minute. Need another centre forward. With shola out… (rested till Sunderland match)

It is good that everyone just don,t know whats going down though, the next two weeks are going to be interesting !

See the children are out in force this morning! Make a date somewhere lads and just sort it out amongst yourselves.
