Newcastle 2 Spurs 1 – Ben Arfa, Demba Ba Magic Does It

Newcastle somehow did what was necessary against Tottenham at St. James’ Park this afternoon, to get their first win of the season against a very good looking Spurs side, and it was a fantastic goal from Demba Ba after 53 minutes, his first since February, and a wonderful piece of sublime skill from Ben Arfa, who was brought down in the penalty area after 80 minutes,  as he went past  two players, and he rifled home the penalty in great style,  sending Freidel the wrong way – that did the trick for Newcastle.

This was a very hard earned win by the Magpies but it looked like Newcastle were second best in the first half,  with Spurs looking the better side and also having most of the possession as both Defoe and Bale hit the woodwork.

Then after 55 minutes a simply fantastic goal from Demba Ba, who took the ball down from a Danny Simpson  cross,  and he turned and simply rifled the ball into the back of the net with his right foot – a fantastic first goal of the season from Ba – what a player.

And his first goal in 15 matches since early February but he still has 17 goals in 37 appearances for Newcastle.

But after 76 minutes Tottenham equalized and it was sloppy goal to concede by Newcastle.  Lennon clipped the ball into the box to the far post,  and Tim Krul just about kept Davide Santon’s header out, what was Santon doing?

But Defoe then followed through and put the ball into the back of the net, and the scores were level at 1-1 after 76 minutes.

Ben Arfa – after scoring the winner – what a player

But only a few minutes later it was Ben Arfa out on the left wing, who cut in and moved between two Spurs defenders showing tremendous skill, and he was brought down in the box – a stone cold penalty.

And Ben Arfa took the penalty – with his left foot of course – and sent Friedel the wrong way and this time Newcastle were able to hang on for what was a great victory for the lads, and a decent performance.

Newcastle again showed this afternoon that they never give up, even when they were outplayed as they were in the first half today.

Bottom line – a terrific start to the season and Vurnon Anita made his debut as he came on for  Yohan Cabaye in the second half, and Yohan is still short of match fitness.

We’ll have a full match report out soon.

    Repost

Well played lads, Perch put in yet another great shift, did absolutely everything asked of him.

Shout out to S.Taylor’s first PL match in 11 months and looked very very solid.

Guti was a work horse the entire game never stopped running. Simmo played much better in the second half.

Anita showed a few deft touches and quick feet and Obertan held the ball up well a few times.

    HBA was a class apart.

3 points, and that is the main thing 😀

Y’know what I think I am going to leave proceedings for this evening as I am delighted with the victory and I have a feeling that someone will find the need to say something negative to try and bring everyone down.

Any negative people try anything smart make sure you lot put them back in their place 😀

HBA really ran that show in the second half. he was literally orchestrating…everything

tiote was poor, cabaye failed to impress as well. everyone else, even simmo, they were all at their best today. guti played so well in that CDM role

    1) concede with simpson during the first half, did ok in the 2nd half
    2) Good goal by Demba Ba – a confident boost for him
3)HBA is easily our best player
    4) Spurs goal was LUCKY
    5) Perch did well

What’s better is that Liverpoo lost also.
Liverpoo’s next 3 games are against City, The Arse and the Mackems. Can only see them getting a maximum of 2-3 points out of those 3 games.

I know I should be grateful to Liverpoo for pretty much paying for half of our team, but I just can’t stand them.

Loved the header back to Krul from Saylor.
U’ll never in a million years see Willo do that.
So happy. We’re aiming for the CL lads!
We just got off to the best possible start against one of the toughest oppositions.

Am really disappointed with today’s scoreline.
Simmo got the assist but we let one in…
and that means Kets is staying on the blog.

    2 txts sent during match….
    Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
    then
    Hbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
    Pure class HWTL!
Spurs were a lot better than I initially gave them credit. That was a good Spurs side, they pushed up high and at times we struggled as we did not want to push too high up the field coz of the counter attack presence that they have. This in my opinion was a monumental win….a statement of intent…we’re here and were gonna give you probs. Thought some of HBAs touches were a bit rusty and Cabaye a bit jaded but they are only gonna get better and better and better. Perch as great, Simmo did well to contain Bale and Saylor used his head …..LOL…best goal line clearance ever!!
