It’s worked out really well that Curtis Good cost £400K (£0.4M) from Melbourne Heart and Vurnon Anita cost €8.5M from Ajax, because that converts to £6.6M, and therefore Newcastle got them both in for a nice even £7M, and with just 11 days to go in the transfer window the good news, the very good news, is that we haven’t lost any of our star players.
Vurnon Anita – top player so far through the door
Demba Ba is still at he club after the release clause in his contract ran out on August 1st, and he got off to a great start on Saturday afternoon with a wonderful goal to break the duck he’s had since early February, and that will give him added confidence – if he ever needed it.
There are reports that Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United – three top clubs in Europe – are after some of our players, and notably Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye, with the first two clubs after Cheick and Manchester United said to be interested in French International Yohan Cabaye.
Alan Pardew hopes he can keep all of his top players at the club this summer, but with the repeated comments being made by Alan that he’s worried he may lose some players, you have to think Newcastle know about some bids are coming in for some of their players.
Here’s a list of the transfers in and out and it adds up to Newcastle having paid out around £3M in net transfer fees so far this summer, but we are still hoping for one and maybe two new players coming through the door before Saturday, 1st September, when we could well be at the top of the Premier League. 😀
And this is not meant to be criticism of what Newcastle have done so far in the transfer market, because the club have brought in four excellent players for just £8M – so far.
But we are hoping for more.

i agree, they have massive debt, and these rules are in soon, so they’ll have to keep wages below a certain amount which will stop them signing the top top players…

Comment #284Apparently there is 5 teams that have matched the £10million fee Man City want for Johnson, Those teams are apparently:
Newcastle, Sunderland, Everton, Tottenham, and someone else…
I’d love him to come to us but I just doubt it, Really hope he doesnt go to Sunderland because he’s better than a relegation battle.. If he didnt come to us I’d hope he went to Everton

They can hardly compete against Man City and Chelsea in terms of purchasing power and history isn’t really a draw to most players nowadays. I know some people may say “but what about Van Persie”; well he’s only gone to them because because they were the only big club willing to pay that much. He won’t win a major trophy with them this season anyway, FA Cup at best.

Apparently the lad has a stinking attitude and that’s one of the reasons why they are looking to ship him put. I don’t doubt his talent but I don’t want is to bring someone in who could potentially upset the apple cart.

Comment #289ochytoon – He’s got an attitude because he doesnt get a fair chance.. Ben Arfa was supposed to be a total ass and someone who people said we shouldnt touch and look how he turned out with a manager who will put an arm round him and get the very best out of him.. Johnson and Ben Arfa in one team with Cisse or Ba or both ahead of them would be unstoppable and very scary

Comment #291on the douglas thing…i wouldn’t be wholly disappointed if we didn’t sign him. Mbiwa may be a pipe dream but he seems as though he’d be receptive to a move. Would much rather him if it were plausible….
I’ve been one of Perch’s biggest detractors though I usually don’t comment on the matter. Easily his best game for us last Saturday.
and Dannyo, to continue on with the Pieters discussion…
i agree with you 100% on Pieter’s inability to offer anything going forward, which is one of my biggest qualms with buying him, hypothetically. In my opinion, football has evolved recently and the best teams have guys who offer much more going forward with wing backs. According to Pardew and evidenced by pre-season and spurs, we have transcended a flat 442 philosophy. The need for FB to be incorporated into the attack is at the utmost in either a 433 or 4231 formation. If that is what we intend to deploy, it means both tiote and anita will be back there to cover for the FBs. Pieters does not add anything we don’t already have. Tavernier can play FB and CB as well, and, again going by pre-season and his loans last season, in my mind he would seem more appropriate for the first team than Erik.

I wasn’t aware that European suspensions rolled over season to season. In fact, in quite sure they don’t.

Comment #298Well perhaps I’m wrong but it doesn’t work like that in the Champions League. It was at least 3 seasons ago and I would be very surprised if it turned out he was suspended. I guess we’ll find out Thursday.

it was put up by an apparent friend of a footballer. I think it is probably one of the players that has left… Routledge? Did players such as Xisco and Kadar get medals or not? can’t see it being a player like Loven etc, too much class, would say smudger but i think even he has too much pride to do that.

Comment #311Whoever it is I sincerely hope they are no longer at the club. That medal is something that every Newcastle player should be proud of.
I have a feeling that it could be Nile Ranger’s medal, perhaps as a result of AP saying that he would never play under him again.

on AC note, heard spurs are interested. hope he goes there so 1) he doesn’t end up here and 2) he’s the exact opposite type of striker spurs need.
