What’s Your Team For Thursday Night Against Atromitos?

Alan Pardew will have a challenging time in the next couple of weeks,  with Newcastle playing four vital games, having successfully navigated the first game at home to Tottenham in good style on Saturday, with a good 2-1 win top start the season off well.

Gael Bigirimana – will play in Athens

And as expected the Football Association charged the Newcastle manager today with misconduct, following his shove on the assistant referee after about an hour or so, and he has until 4PM on Thursday to respond to the charge.

Of course Alan will be in Athens with the side at that time, and the really interesting thing is what team will he field for that game, and he said over the weekend that James Tavernier, Haris Vuckic and Gael Bigirimana are three youngsters who will play in that game.

We had thought it would be all change side and that Newcastle would field a second eleven – maybe as follows:

Harper
Tavernier Williamson Good Ferguson
Taylor (R) Gosling  Bigirimana Marveaux
Ameobi (Sh) Vuckic

That would still not leave room for players like Romain Amalfitano or Mehdi Abeid (hmmm), and maybe Alan will give a full game to Vurnon Anita to get him in the swing of things at Newcastle, but that team is a complete change from the side that started the game last Saturday.

But Alan Pardew said this morning that some first-team regulars will be in the side in Athens to play Atromitos FC,  and that it would not be 11 changes from the side last Saturday:

“I’m going to put a team out that I think can win, and that might not be all of our big hitters all of the time.” “But I won’t be making 11 changes on Thursday.” “The most important thing for the next couple of days is rest. We have to make sure that we rest well.”

And we don’t know whether Shola Ameobi and Fabricio Coloccini will be fit enough for Thursday night, so it’s a bit of a challenge for the manager and coaches as to which side to play in Athens.

But make no mistake, this is a very important game for Newcastle, and we must qualify for the group stages of the Europa League, and it will time for some youngsters and players to show what they can do for Newcastle.

What do think the team will be on Thursday night?

i think with Ba coming off on Saturday, he will travel meaning Cisse will start in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 against Chelsea at the weekend. Got a feeling Anita will also go due to Cabaye and Tiote being seemingly okay to remain in the middle when we travel to Stamford Bridge. Good team that i think too.

    Tavernier. Willo. Good. Raylor
    Marveaux. Anita/bigrimana. Amalfitano. Ferguson
    Obertan
    Shola

I personally think that ferguson is a better winger than full back because of his physical presence.
I’m also hoping that Obertan plays second fiddle striker, tucked in behind shola, he’s not a very good winger but can find the back of the net on occasions.

    4-4-2
    Harper
    Tavenier Willo Colo Santon
    Obertan Gosling Bigi Jonas
    Ba Campbell

I think that side is more than capable of getting a result. If not be will batter them over here with benny and cisse playing. Need to give key players a rest while also keeping some experience in the side

Doubt the likes of Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba, Saylor, Colo will feature at all on Thursday. AP already stated EPL is priority.
    My 11 is:-
    Elliott
    Raylor, Williamson, Good, Tavernier.
    Anita
    Obertan. Gosling. Abeid. Marveaux

    Campbell
Shola for Campbell if passed fit.
All just a guess but will be watching to see who on here was closest.

A bit funny to see most going fora 4-4-1-1, despite most loathing that and 4-4-2, lol.
U wanna be slightly defensive in this one, make sure u don’t go out and expose the midfield.

    For Thursday i’d go:

    ——————————-Harper
    Tavernier —–Williamson —–Perch ——Raylor
    ——————-Bigirmana——-Gosling
    Amalfitano—————-Vuckic———Marveaux
    ———————————Ba

That is a team capable of going to Greece and winning.

Then for Chelsea at the weekend i’d go:

    ————————–Krul
    Simpson——Saylor—-Coloccini—-Santon
    ————Cabaye—-Tiote—-Anita
    Ben Arfa———————————–Jonas
    ————————–Cisse

I’d like to see Williamson, Anita, Amalfitano, Gosling and Ba start, from the more senior players.

Abeid has to play, so I’d fancy Abeid and Anita as a midfield 2, with Bigi maybe coming on for Anita towards the end.

I’d like to see Ba leading the line on his own again. I think he needs that.

Whats the status with Sammy Ameobi..? Injured or..?

    I would be going with:

    Tavs-Willo-Perch-Raylor
    Obs-Anita-Bigi-Vuckic-Marvs
    Ba/Shola?

    Bench:
    Elliot

Ba or Cisse will have to travel if Shola is still out. I think AP took Ba off with time to spare with that in mind.

We can’t rely on an 17 year old and Vuckic who is shite up front. Atromitos or not.
