There is news today that the agent of Newcastle’s long term target, Brazilian center-back Douglas, is now in London and is discussing terms after it seems a fee was agreed between Fulham and FC Twente for the Brazilian center-back.
Douglas – Fulham have agreed fee with FC Twente for Brazilain
This could be another case of Newcastle missing out on a player, but with only one year left on his contract, the fee Fulham are reported to be willing to pay – €5.2M (about) – is hardly a good deal for somebody who could be available for nothing next summer.
Douglas is in the last year of his contract at the Dutch club, and it seems Newcastle have been after the 6’4″ Brazilian all year, but they may now miss out, and probably are not willing to pay the fee requested by FC Twente.
The report in Voetbal International is that Fulham have had a £4M accepted by the Dutch club, and his agent is now currently in London, discussing terms for his client with the Craven Cottage club.
It’s not clear if Newcastle have even offered a fee for the Brazilian but if they have, it seems that Fulham’s offer is a better one, which is why Fulham are now in pole position to sign the center-back.
We had a report out yesterday in which FC Twente Chairman Joop Munsterman confirmed that Newcastle and Fulham were two clubs who had expressed an interest in the player, but there had been no official bids received.
That seems to have changed today with Fulham’s bid being accepted, and it could be another case of Newcastle being unwilling to bid any more than their own valuation of a player, which in this case seems to be around £3M – not enough.
