News today from France and Spain that Newcastle are still interested in 24 year-old Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho, but it could be that the 24 year-old is on his way to Spanish side Valencia, and the Magpies may miss out on the French International – always assuming Newcastle were interested in him in the first place.
Aly Cissokho – 24 year-old Lyon left-back capped once by France
Cissokho, 24, has spent three seasons at Lyon after his move from Porto, which cost the French club a massive €15M (about £12M) and he has been itching for a move for well over a year now.
Newcastle were interested in signing the player last summer as a replacement for Jose Enrique, but Newcastle could not agree a suitable fee with Lyon – where have you heard that one before? 😀
Spanish newspaper Superdeporte are reporting that Lyon want €9M (£7.2M) for the defender, and if that’s true Newcastle wouldn’t pay that for the French player, who is of Senegalese descent.
Bernard Lacombe is an advisor to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, and he had this to say, and says Newcastle are interested:
“His case is in progress but Newcastle and Napoli are eyeing him too. There is a high probability Aly will leave the club. If he does, we could sign Fabian Monzon, from Nice, to replace him.”
The French daily L’Equipe are reporting that Valencia are ready to pay €7M for Cissokho (£5.6M), but we still think that’s more than Newcastle would be willing to pay for the Frenchman.
And of course we don’t know whether what Lacombe says is accurate, and it may simply be a ruse to get a higher bid out of Valencia.
Newcastle could be interested in signing Cissokho, but a good deal for Newcastle would probably only be at around £4M.
Cissokho has played 131 times with two goals for Lyon over the last three seasons and is a decent enough player.
