Pardew Makes 9 Changes For Atromitos Game

Alan Pardew was true to his word when he said he would not make eleven changes for the side to play against Atromitos tonight at the Peristeri Stadium in Athens.- he made only nine.

As expected Steve Harper is in goal and James Tavernier, Gael Bigirimana and Vurnon Anita all start with Papiss Cisse also in the side.

James Perch is the other starter who played on Saturday against Tottenham, and that could suggest Fabricio Coloccini will be fit to start at Chelsea on Saturday – we’ll see.

17 year-old Adam Campbell is on the bench and is likely to see some action tonight, but there is no Mehdi Abeid, even on the bench, so maybe he’s injured.

It’s hard to know what to expect tonight, but the positive thing is that the youngsters have not let the side down, and they were very impressive in the 4-1 win at Hartlepool earlier in the summer.

Big hitters Yohan Cabaye and Jonas Gutierrez are on the bench if reinforcements are necessary, as is Romain Amalfitano, who is also likely to see some action.

Ryan Taylor starts at left back, so his free kick and corner taking will be available to the side.

For Atromitos, 29 year-old Njazi Kuqi, who stands 6’4″ tall, starts up front for the Greek side, and he’s the younger brother of Shefki Kuqi, who was brought in after Andy Carroll joined Liverpool, to help out with the striker duties on Tyneside. Shefki is now at Hibs on a one year deal.

Teams:

Atromitos: Itandje; Skondras, Giannoulis, Fitanidis, Beljic, Lazaridis, Brito, Iglesias, Dimoutsos, Epstein, Kuqi
Substitutes: Radman, Tavlaridis, Nastos, Karagounis, Karamanos, Garcia, Chumbinho

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Steve Harper; James Tavernier, Mike Williamson (c), James Perch, Ryan Taylor; Gael Bigirimana, Vurnon Anita; Gabriel Obertan, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Tim Krul, Davide Santon, Steven Taylor, Yohan Cabaye, Jonas Gutierrez, Romain Amalfitano, Adam Campbell

My word, calm down. Abeid wasn’t in the squad. Pardew said he’s taken everyone fit

Hence – Abeid is not fit.

    @mutinylemons

There’s obviously some logic in his decision not to take other players, e.g resting them or they are injured.

Will people please copy and paste live streaming links on here please, really want to watch the game, cheers. 😀

    Gates

If he is, wonder why Pardew didn’t mention it when he mentioned the likes of Vuckic and Sammy were injured.

Very experimental line up but hope we can do the business, anything but a loss will be a good result but if we can get some away goals then even better……

That’s a good group that, i just don’t like that back 4 tbh.
We really need to add to that area, FB and CB has to be prio.
Will be an exciting game me thinks, abundance of pace in this team, it’ll be a strong victory imo.
Too much for the greeks to handle.

Dannyo, seems like it on paper and fingers crossed.
Perch n Willo CB pairing and to think Ober and Gosling are the experienced mf players in the team…..
Will be a interesting game to watch especially as we know very little about the opposition.

Seems a decent enough team to get a result. 40 minutes and counting 🙂

Happy with that team. Very similar to a lot of the preseason teams so the group will have played together before. Our main struggle in preseason was controlling the middle of the park without Cabaye or Tiote, hopefully Anita will solve this problem.

Marv, Anita, Tav and Cisse to excel and i’m sensing an over the wall special. 2-1 to us.

Here in Macedonia the coefficient for Newcastle to win is 2.3(don’t know in odds) but its a pretty huge amount if you ask me…100 pound bet would get you 230…i was waiting to see the starting 11 and honestly i didnt expect such a strong team and didnt expect anything more than 1.7 coefficient…on my way now.
