Is there a slot for no one?

  • 2 ToonDownSouth // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:57 PM

I can’t really forsee our entire starting 11 being injured.

Slotting a couple of players in, and changing an entire starting 11, are two veeery very different things!

  • 3 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:58 PM

Very assured performance, were a little sloppy until Atromitos scored but after that there was only ever one team in it and we got the essential away goal.

No injuries and a good look at some of the younger fringe players.

Anyone that thinks that Tav should immediately be chosen at RB instead of Simmo needs to get their head examined though, the kid is good but has a lot to learn.

  • 4 AndyNUFC // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:58 PM

I love our defence now, if only Williamson had even half of what Bigi, Perch and Raylor have in determination in class he would be decent.

  • 5 toonking // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:58 PM

raylor was my motm today he was moving about a lot and did some good set pieces

  • 6 dmac // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:58 PM

Was a rubbish game of football to watch. Wish Campbell got the opportunity to play upfront with someone. He is not a loan striker. Still congrats to the lad!

An away goal is all that counts.

  • 7 eaststandgeordie1982 // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:59 PM

    Bigi by a mile

  • 8 JackButler // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:59 PM

Anyone who thought that Liverpools performance against West Brom was a one off……………….Sorry but they are shocking tonight as well :D

  • 9 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:59 PM

    Perch all the way.

Be happy if I didn’t see Gosling or Obertan in a NUFC jersey ever again. They’re becoming deadwood and we have promising players like Amalfitano being given limited time, due to them being given their billionth chance to impress.

    Overall – shite and a bad attitude/approach

Positives – Amalfitano showed he’s a real footballer with a few dribbles and his fleet of foot. Campbell looked hungry and showed much better movement and hold-up ability than Cisse. Bigi also did well aside from 1 rick.

MOTM however – Perchinio – didn’t put a foot wrong.

  • 10 dmac // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:59 PM

Also why oh why do we insist on hooving every corner and freekick to williamson for him to just foul. I honestly dont think i have ever seen him win one. Waste of a set piece.

  • 11 WWYCD // Aug 23, 2012 at 7:59 PM

Tough pick between Bigi and Anita imo had to plump for Bigi great full debut for Anita though

  • 12 ochytoon // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:00 PM

No of course not the entire starting eleven but if we lose Taylor/Cabaye/Ben Arfa all around the same time, we’ll struggle.

  • 13 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:01 PM

Also am I the only one who thinks that Obertan is playing with a little bit more confidence, he showed some excellent touches throughout the game, wasn’t afraid to try and take on his man and while his final ball was often lacking he never failed to try again.

His final ball can be improved and once it is he should be a proper little gem for us, was very impressed with him tonight.

  • 14 niafron // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:01 PM

    I’m off.

    Bonne soirée messieurs.

  • 15 Rotonda heights // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:01 PM

is campbell on loan to us?

  • 16 JackButler // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:01 PM

MOTM was Biggie for me, for someone so young to look so assured and composed on the ball is very, very rare. his positional sense is brilliant, this lad is going to be something special I think :D

  • 17 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:01 PM

Fake Ruddy Piss off you little piece of sh!t

  • 18 HBA Blood Twister // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:02 PM

    Anita was different class.

  • 19 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:02 PM

Right. We got the away goal. We got a draw. We can destroy them in the modest temperature of st James park next week.

Now, if everyone can turn to ITV4 an watch hearts beat fool

  • 20 Spuggy // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:02 PM

Obertan was a different player 2nd half, had a shocker 1st.

  • 21 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:03 PM

Giz Ruddy, you tell Jiz Ruddy!

  • 22 toonking // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:03 PM

the thing i thought was best about our team today was we did not put our heads down when they went 1-0 ahead.
if that had happened last season i bet the final result would have bee 3/4-1

  • 23 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:03 PM

Anyone that knows me on this blog would know that I don’t slate our own players, if you are going to use my name at least stay consistent with my beliefs you fcuking cretin.

  • 24 leeb1982 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:04 PM

Obertan first half was an absolute joke. Pathetic. Not the only one mind but all in all I’d take a 1-1 draw to st James’s

  • 25 Tonytoon73 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:04 PM

MOM me i sat and watched it, sack Pardew and get rid of the young one’s. Terrifying

  • 26 WWYCD // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:04 PM

Am sure not two threads ago u said ud happily never see Gosling or Obertan play for NUFC again?

    Uve confused me sir

  • 27 Beattie25 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:04 PM

I think we may struggle In domestic cups. Not a negative statement just a realistic perception.

I think we need some quality added to the first team and less pressure put onto the youngsters.

That team tonight was to full of players who have either A. Confidence issues B. Fitness Issues C. Have hardly played for a whole season or 2 D. Too much pressure put on them at a young age.

Overall the result was good but the performance is worrying and reflects what I’ve been saying for a long time. We need investment if we are truly going to try to repeat our feats this coming season.

  • 28 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:05 PM

Ibiza – which one is which again? Which one is blue ruddy? What a weird sentence.

  • 29 dmac // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:05 PM

Haha i meant lone not loan. I made a spelling mistake.

  • 30 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:05 PM

That’s a poster pretending to be me using my name. I never slate our own players.

  • 31 wingspan // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:06 PM

The moaning on this site gets on my tits sometimes. We had a job to do and we did it, we wont loose at st james’ so we are through on an away goal!

We had lots of players playing there first competitive matchess of the season you could see match sharpness/fitness wasnt there and also halfway throughthe second half we were content with a draw so we were just keeping possession.

MOTM for me is Bigi, the potential of that kid is huuuuge, and he seems to have the passion and dedication so that promise will come to fruition without a doubt. Fantastic signing.

  • 32 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:06 PM

Anyone that is familiar with me (the genuine Ruddy), would know that I wouldn’t use such coarse language, as that just used by this little upstart.

  • 33 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:06 PM

Good game. Kinda expected a game like this. A draw will do and we should be able to win at home and get through this. Amalfitano, Anita, Bigirimana all looked good. Didn’t see enough of Campbell. Obertan same old same old although he put in few good crosses in the second half but still not enough and needs to improve. Gosling didn’t do much either.

  • 34 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:07 PM

    Biggi for me like

  • 35 Dannyo // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:07 PM

Haha oh right I did wonder though I just figured u were in a bad mood tbh :)

Didnt think u were allowed to share the exact same user name, have u emailed Ed about this?

  • 37 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:07 PM

Wwycd – there is blue ruddy and green ruddy, you can’t tell which one is which if you aren’t on mobile site. Blue ruddy is real ruddy. Green ruddy is imposter ruddy.
    Only on this blog…

  • 38 Jamesthefirst // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:08 PM

Unfair to vote for Arnita because for me he is a 1st teamer. A class player and a huge signing for the club.

Bigi was the revelation tonight. It’s like watching a teenage Tiote who can actually pass the ball. The kid has everything. How on earth we got him so cheap is staggering. He’ll be the one a few years from now getting linked with the big money moves.

What a performance. Bossed the midfield and alongside Arnita proves we have a formidable back-up to Cabaye and Tiote.

  • 39 MagpiesFlyHigh // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:09 PM

haven’t you got your moniker problem sorted yet ?
Deffo shouldn’t have two guys with same name … too confusing .

Score draw away at Stamford Bridge would do okay for first three games of the season….until we bring in those new players next week haha:-)

  • 40 lukes26 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:09 PM

    The Good:

Amalfitano: After he came on for Gosling immediately made space for everyone else. Obertan looked much better because of this. He’s fun to watch. Very intuitive.

    Perch: Continues to Amaze.

Campbell: Looks quick. Didnt look fazed by opportunity. He’s a gamer.

Anita: Tidy player. The future of him Amalfitano, Santon, and perhaps Ferguson on left looks very promising.

Papiss: Looks just as comfortable as last season.

    The Bad:

Tavernier: Exposed at least 4 times that I can count. Uncomfortable on the ball. He’s 20, but so far seems a Poor Man’s Danny Simpson.

Gosling: I thought he had a good game in one of the preseason matches, but he’s too slow, Amalfitano created more in 25 minutes than he did in 65.

Bigirimana’s Ball Control: Gave the ball away a few times, better competition would punish this type of error from a DFM.

Obertan’s Final Product: Did better in the second half, but still confounds me how someone with all the necessary skill can continue to disappoint.

  • 41 leeb1982 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:10 PM

Wingspan he has potential but he did give quite a few sloppy balls away

  • 42 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:10 PM

Fake Ruddy what are you trying to achieve? You are not clever, or witty or funny. You have not shown any form of intelligence and have only served to prove that you are a pathetic sad little child.

For your sake I hope you are nothing more than a pathetic teenager who has self-esteem issues whose need for validation is only met by imitating someone whose opinion is actually valued on this blog. I am sure if your opinion was worth reading in the first place that you would post under your own name.

You are fooling no one, at least not on a consistent basis because as soon as I come on and see you using my name I call you out and you scamper away like the pathetic bottom feeder that you are.

If you are any older than 14 then I am afraid you may have some psychological defect, or emotional problem that requires professional help and I do hope you get that help.

In the mean time, however, fcuk off and stop using my name you little turd.

  • 43 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:10 PM

Though Bigimirana has an average game. Anita looked the part. Therefore I’ve given him MOTM with Raylor a close second,

The weak-links in the match were Gosling, Williamson and Tavernier.

  • 44 Tonytoon73 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:10 PM

    Ruddy is a prick.

  • 45 Rotonda heights // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:10 PM

Only joking, I know you meant lone striker.

Perch seems to be growing by the game and again looked calm and assured and in the right place, whereas Willo just doesn’t seem to have anything resembing a footballing brain and just keeps doing the same things over and over.

Bigi is a star in the making and Amaltafino has some great skill. I thought Anita knitted things today neatly as well. Was disappointed with Tav, but excited by Campbell’s cameo. He brings some much needed pace and was chasing down from the front.

  • 50 shirtonapole tinooo // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:12 PM

easy game, well in control except for tav for about 10min in the first half.
to all those calling obertan, i thought he was one of our best players in the second half (made two of our best chances)
it was a nothing game why should any of our players waste their energy???

finally i love reading this blog most of the time, but come kickoff everyone turns into absolute twa.s critisicing the team, players, management etc.
get some perspective, 3yrs ago we made liverpool (of today) look awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • 51 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:12 PM

Bigi for me the lad was immense!
    No injuries!
Bigi looked ready for anything and anyone!
Anita fantastic full debut him n bigi linked up fantastically!
    Amalfitano! Wow!
Campbell great to see the lad come on shame it wasnt for another 20!!
Perchinio williamson and raylor showed there worth to us as squad players who can slot in to the team at any time!!
Harps still looked a decent keeper

Cisse doesnt quiet look match sharp, although tbf he was very starved of service!
Obertan ended well but really shouldnt take a senior player 70 minutes to get into the game every outing!
Marv looked a bit rusty after along time out hope he comes good!
Gosling tbh might aswell of stayed at home and started amal

  • 52 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:12 PM

Ah right mate hopefully Ed will sort it out quickly

Ur first half of the comment was grand but this blog doesnt deal in negatives thus ur 2nd half will be written off as a mind burp

  • 60 lukes26 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:15 PM

I’m convinced our interest in Douglas is like this huge inside joke by our scouting team and Administration. Just like when Chelsea said, with a straight face, that they were interested in Simpson.

  • 61 JackButler // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:15 PM

Apparently the NUFC official site has just put up a message asking anyone who has seen Dan Gosling over the past few hours to get in touch with the club as he’s gone missing and Alan Pardew is really worried ;)

  • 62 Jamesthefirst // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:16 PM

I have a few friends who are Coventry friends and I asked them about Bigi when we signed him. They said we had just signed Essien, I thought they were joking. But from tonight’s performance you can see all the potential they were referring to. A couple of years from now with more experience he’s going to be some player.

  • 63 Tonytoon73 // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:17 PM

Ruddy. Now i know you are the proper Ruddy mate, no disrespect son.

  • 64 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:17 PM

    Jolly well cross?

Surely people can see past that. I wouldn’t say that.

  • 65 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:17 PM

maybe we can just put some masking tape over the screen for the second part!

  • 66 davybtoon // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:19 PM

Amalfitano looks a real good player another Carr gem

  • 67 toonking // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:19 PM

in next weeks home game i hope adam cambell get more playing time because if ether of our main two strikers are missing and carroll does not join then we have only got an impact sub or a player who lacks starting XP for the later stages

  • 68 Rotonda heights // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:19 PM

gosling is shocking just can not see anything in him at all.
we were much better when Amaltifino came on. The others such as anita, Bigi, Abeid etc are all far better than gosling in my opinion. Think we should cut our losses on him or get him out on loan.

  • 69 calvinzolamakongo // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:19 PM

Yeh every part of bigi s game was amazing he made 2 sloppy passes but then made up for it with some 40 yrd pings amalfitano looks good really good if he played for wigan or sumthing ppl would rave about him great spot by Carr & co obertan realy good linked play well didn’t give the ball away every cross he played was good jus a shame BA wernt coming in back post as they would of been certain goals..tav bless him had a bad game against arguably there best player still got hopes for him…will defended well but took the piss the amount of times he fouled there players in there box from corners raylor over the wall done well perch solid Anita looks tricky and a work horse and quick marveux flashes of brilliance evry1 else good

  • 70 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:19 PM

You clever so and so ;) none taken, thought it was a bit basic for you mate!

  • 71 WWYCD // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:22 PM

I can see no issues arising from that plan haha

  • 72 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:22 PM

Was expecting more from Marveaux tonight but I have to remember he has been out for a long time and Still is rusty and conditions weren’t very nice either. Also I thought Marveaux kept drifting inside into an AMF position as if he doesn’t really like playing on the wing. I personally don’t think he is a Ben Arfa type of player as in someone who dribbles and takes on player but more of a pass and move type of player. What are your thoughts?

  • 73 stoonley // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:23 PM

Does anybody else think that there isn’t actually a fake Ruddy and it’s just so he can hog some blog space for a bit? It seems like almost half the comments on this blog seem to be Ruddy talking to himself…
Just change your name if it’s that big a deal and stop whinging!
Also remember when there was a Bloody as well as a Ruddy? Always thought that seemed suspicious…
Respect the fog (on the Tyne) and don’t hog the blog!

how did mav play..seems he had game. disappointed to hear about tav too.

  • 75 shirtonapole tinooo // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:24 PM

as much as i was happy with tonights performance, i don´t think we´ll get that far in europe playing a side like we did tonight.
was at the chemnitz game which was a similar, lineup against a 3rd division side and we looked so poor.
game after against monaco with a couple more first teamers huge difference.
so basically i think that we´ll have to play at least half the first team to keep progressing, but well done :D

I’m a regular reader and occasional poster, I read every article every day and hope for some football related comments and I’m fed up of seeing loads from you whinging about someone copying you! Grow up lad!

Having said that, half of you does seem to make some good points and NUFC-related but I think we could all do without hearing about the pseudo-Ruddy.

If it is not a fake then I am sorry for the finger-pointing and what-not…

I’m being a huge hypocrite here as well by not posting anything NUFC related so sorry about this chaps.

  • 80 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:33 PM

Instead of talking around me why don’t you talk to me, why do you want to impersonate me? What exactly do you achieve? I happen to like my name, I am proud of it as it is my personal stamp on the blog. If you are trying to take it from me then I am afraid you won’t because I will gladly just keep calling you out.

Are you so insecure in yourself that you have to pretend to be someone you’re not? Maybe when you look yourself in the mirror you realise how worthless and pathetic you really are and wish day in day out that you were someone else and this is your chance to do that?

I am flattered that I am the object of your mimicry, as they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but it get’s to a point where I actually pity you, not in a caring way but I pity you as you must be a pathetic individual.

  • 81 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:35 PM

It doesn’t concern you, I like my name and don’t like that some is impersonating me. So how’s this for an idea…keep your nose out?

  • 82 Cool Hand Luke // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:35 PM

My MOTM was between Bigi and Anita, i gave it to Anita because he edged it in composure, they look like a formidable partnership though. Tav had a shocker, bad in attack and defense. Cisse a bit inefective but he was starved by a) Gosling being invisible and b) Obertans poor final balls.

Williamson, ok at the back but for dears sake.. every ball that came into the box when he was around and he somehow managed to foul. Hes the biggest player on the pitch, other players should be fouling him not the other way round.

An Ok display but really lacking a cutting edge in the final third.

Raylor and Perch were great too.

  • 83 Cool Hand Luke // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:38 PM

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.m

    It’s true like.
    Pervert alert..

  • 88 Andrew M // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:48 PM

Any particular reason why Perch and Simpson didn’t go to the Euros? Surely far better than the lads who were drafted in to deal with the injuries.

Same for Fraser Forster. Surely far better than a lad who couldn’t even get on the bench for Birmingham.

    Wrong agents, I suspect.

Meantime, this might have been a boring match, but given we were playing a reserve team, were away from home with the St James’ leg to come, I struggle to understand what people expected. It was all about protecting the first teamers for the Chelsea match while making sure we had a platform from which to qualify.

  • 89 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 23, 2012 at 8:49 PM

Bigirimana for me was the one who looked like creating something from the open play. I chose him even if I´s like to give credit for Raylor too.
I wonder how many of this team we`ll have to drop if we get to the group stage and want to do well.

It´ll be a challenge for Cisse to up his game from tonight in just 2 days on Stamford Bridge. Him and Jonas will probably be the only ones playing today getting a start on Saturday.

Belfast, even worse is the ‘man’ who tucks his jumper into his jeans, and completes the look with a mobile phone pouch. Ghastly.

Cool hand….That’s a horrid image. You have seen some terrible terrible things in your lifetime.

Ibizatoon, ive unfortunately seen this injustice on more than one occasion. Each time it felt like someone had just sh!t directly into my eyes

As I have said since watching him originally, Gosling is crap, and Obertan not up to much either. Two poor signings. Beattie, you cannot express concern about required signings on this blog or you will be shouted at, believe me. Unless Marveaux or someone else steps up to the plate, we are going to lack creativity this season, just as we did in preseason. Too much sits on HBA and Cabaye.
