Fab Coloccini And Vurnon Anita Start At Chelsea

Fabricio Coloccini has recovered from his thigh  injury and makes his first appearance of the season for Newcastle United at Chelsea this afternoon.

Coloccini comes in to partner Steven Taylor at the back as expected, but Cheick Tiote has an injured knee, and Vurnon Anita comes in for his first start in the Premier League.

Alan Pardew has made 9 changes from the side that started in Athens on Thursday night, and Vurnon Anita and Papiss Cisse are the only two that start today that were in the starting eleven against Atromitos.

Shola Ameobi is still not fit and Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba continue up front, and we’ll see what Papiss can do to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this time around.

Ben Arfa and Jonas continue on the wings, and this is a strong Newcastle side.

The Magpies will be trying to repeat what they famously did last season at Stamford Bridge when we came away 2-0 winners with two great goals from Papiss Cisse.

The Newcastle bench is very strong  – Steve Harper, James Perch, Mike Williamson, Ryan Taylor, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux and Gabriel Obertan.

For Chelsea the dangerous Eden Hazard starts and David Luiz and Tim Krul are the two center-backs with John Terry being out injured.

Teams:

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, David Luiz, Ashley Cole; John Obi Mikel, Raul Meireles; Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Ryan Bertrand; Fernando Torres
Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, Oriol Romeu, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Ramires, Oscar, Daniel Sturridge

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Hatem Ben Arfa, Vurnon Anita, Yohan Cabaye, Jonas Gutierrez; Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Steve Harper, James Perch, Mike Williamson, Ryan Taylor, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan

I actually live in London (uni) and it has stopped raining for a little while now so the game should be fine! And oh dear is parses making the same mistake ala spurs going too attacking? Risky!

Good team. But please play 4-3-3

We look so ordinary when we play 442

We went 4-4-2 and won there last year.

The spurs game was different as we had no cabaye or tiote in the middle.

Go 442 nice and boring should keep the pace of the game slow, we don’t want to get carried away, as chelsea can do good counter attacks. if in doubt give ball to benny i say or Cisse if he fancies it

That team can play 442 or 433

Same as spurs, mix it up if the starting formation isn’t working

tbh this is a ballsey line up from AP as he could easily just flood the midfeild and hope for a draw. which we all would be happy with

Bench isn’t very strong. We will have to see how Anita copes with two full games in such short space of time, same with cisse. Can see perch and marveaux coming on for those two later on in the game.

And I am right again!! 4-4-2! Check previous thread, probably got comments in reply saying it won’t happen!

4-2-3-1 while both strikers fit won’t happen! 4-3-3 could!

Think we will lose midfield battle today, we’ll change to 4-3-3 like last week

it doesnt look good when we have no striker on the bench!

we need a cover striker for sure.

niang would of been a wise choice for the money and everton dont usually make blunders in the transfer market either could of been a good move for us.

told you tiote wouldnt play even tho everyone had him them in there pre-starting 11.

    BIG BLOW

havent been impressed by anita thus far

probably have a blinder now today after i said that ha

Cech ©; Ivan, Cahill, D Luiz, Cole; Mikel, Meir; Mata, Hazard, Bertrand; Torres. – subs: Turn, Ess, Rom, Lamps, Ram, Oscar, Sturr.

Apparently chelseas lineup, not the freshest of teams, the likes of torres playing all 3 chelsea games along with an international freindly

    Krul
    Simpson Taylor Colo Santon
    Anita
    Cabaye Jonas
    HBA
    Cisse Ba

so many negative people on the blog today.

Tiote is going nowhere, he’s got quite a bad knee injury. As well we are playing a 4-4-2 but can you not remember we beat Chelski with that formation last year also it’s a flexible side so Ba can easily go out on the left with Jonas dropping back into CM.

    Pawl

Agreed we would play 442 and not surprised we are either.

I would say changing to 4-3-3 is possible as is 4-2-3-1

    It basically The same formation.

Anita and Jonas play deeper then cabaye pushed a little further up. The have cisse, hba and Ba across he front.

4-2-3-1 can just as easily be written as 4-2-1-3

Its all about movement with that and the front 4 aren’t in a set shape.

My god “Tiote is on his way” it’s so predictable! If he is injured he can’t play!!! Is that so hard to understand!? Is it?!

I mean god some people look far too much into things! Rooney was on the bench today but I bet no Man Utd fans said he’s on his way!
