There have been a number of reports that Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, was interested in getting Cheick Tiote to the Gunners, Newcastle’s top defensive midfielder.
Cheick Tiote – in action last week against Tottenham
Arsene spoke after Arsenal’s second 0-0 draw in a row this season, this time at Stoke, and he was asked if Tiote would be a replacement for the departed Alex Song, who went to Barcelona for £15M last week.
And there was even news today in the Sunday Mirror that we covered, that said that Arsenal had already asked Newcastle United about Tiote.
But it seems that Arsene Wenger may have put an end to the speculation – we hope he has put an end to the speculation.
This is what Arsene said when he was asked about the speculation linking Tiote with the Gunners:
“Tiote is a good player, but he’s not on his way to Arsenal.”
Alan Pardew is hoping that he can keep all his players through next Saturday when the transfer window will be over, so it looks like Arsenal are not after Cheick.
That’s good news.
Since joining Newcastle from FC Twente for £3.5M in the summer of 2010, Tiote has played 53 times for Newcastle with that one fantastic goal against Arsenal eighteen months ago, which leveled the scores at 4-4, after Newcastle had been 4-0 down after 26 minutes.

Its annoying me reading through all the comments and people are saying we lost because we were beaten by a better team and they’re European champions etc.
What people don’t realise is, we’re annoyed in the way we got beat.
To state the obvious 4-4-2 is Sh*t. We play Sh*t with 4-4-2.
And you’re right, we rely on individual pieces of brilliance to win games and a lot of luck. We hardly control games and when we do have the ball we look clueless going forward.
-Ba and Cisse can’t play together.
- Jonas is not a LW.
- Cabaye needs 2Dm midfielders behind him to play well.
-Ben arfa is too restricted and Simpson isn’t on the same wave length with when they go forward ( tbf not many people are) .
In a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 these problems would be sorted.
Krul
Simpson Saylor Colo Santon
Anita/Jonas Tiote
Ben Arfa Cabaye Marveaux
Ba/Cisse
That’s what we should play and with The French trio of HBA, Cabaye and marveaux all linking up we could be very dangerous. But we can all dream of such teams because it looks like pardew’s stubbornness to move away from 4-4-2 is taking effect again.

Ochy makes some very valid points. No one is saying pardew out but he can be frustrating at times like putting on Perch when we should have been going for goals.
Pardew is obviously an extremely good manager but maybe as Ochy says he hasn’t really hit the heights previously because he can be fatally stubborn at times and refuse to change formation, tactics and personel when we are losing.

Mr T simply aint going nowhere. He has stated on mumerous occasions that e loves Newcastle, the team the city & the friendly Geordie population!!!!!! Nice win on Thursday & then we play a poor Aston villa,3pts im sure of it! couple of signings wouldnt go amiss, especially Debuchy & a formation wid a free role for the majestic Ben Arfa wid either BA or Cisse up front, rest of team picks itself. Howay lads its early days in this season, get behind the TOON!!!!!!!!!

Super – Totally agree, said last week, wonder how many times Pardew changes formation during a game this season, last season we were shit more than good with 442, however some how picked up some pretty unjust results, seems like he’s hoping for more of the same this season.
Last years success was mostly down to Benny and Cisse being absolutely unbelievable and the rest of the team digging in, we need to offer more than that, At home last season i can only think of a couple of games were we truly bossed the match, Stoke, Blackburn. Outplayed by such greats as Wolves and Bolton even Wigan.
I look at performance rather than results to gauge how the manager is doing, for sure it improved a shit load last year when we changed to 433, dont know why we have gone back to 442 when it has been proved for the most part we are shit playing it, plus it promotes our team to hit the ball long.

Exactly, I just can’t understand why we continue to play 4-4-2 .
The coaches must know that 4-4-2 doesnt work. Surely they can’t all agree that 4-4-2 is the best formation. Aaaarrrrggghhhh!
It’s just so frustrating because we’ll all hope for it not to be 4-4-2 against atromitos and Villa, and we’ll be left dissapointed again.
Even if do beat Villa with 4-4-2, I can guarantee that it will be scrappy and we’ll comeback and still say the same thing. Villa are awful and a team back in the SBR days we would beat 3-0/3-1. Now it’s a hard fought 2-1. It’s nice to win, but it’s just not as satisfying if it’s undeserved. That’s why our GD was only +5 last year. We never scored 4 or more goals.
28 nick_9 // Aug 26, 2012 at 6:00 PM
There goes that little idea then, probably in case fans decide to boycott then it won’t hit ash in the pocket. I noticed he is selling room shirts in sports direct £13 cheaper than in the club shop, I bet lots of people bought from there and not the club, do we get out from that?

if a team with average players can control a game like swasea do why cant we with a better class of player do the same. as much as i respect pardew he is playing a very outdated english system that doesnt suit the players we have .
this will only result in them becoming frustrated and wanting to leave

After reading the blog for about a year this is my 1st post here it goes!! Check t t could not agree more with your coments about last season thought we were lucky to win games against “weaker” teams.I believe Newcastle need to play with 2 dm’s in front of back 4 and let the creative players push forward, Cabaye sits far too to deep for my liking needs to be on the front foot

TDS – i agree, think Rodgers knows how he wants to play and think he will be given time at Liverpool, clearly they are intent on spending so unfortunately they will probably end up above us in the league, it is hard to take but i think it is inevitable, hope Enrique doesnt eventually be proved to be right.

I feel the need to point out that just because Wenger says something, doesn’t mean it’s true.
Pardew said we wouldn’t sign a striker – we signed Cisse.
Why would Wenger be any different? He could easily just be trying to respect NUFC, unlike the way Barcelona treated them.

If i was fergy i would get some money for him now if he could, RVP is much better for me.
45 bills-son // Aug 26, 2012 at 6:27 PM
Super Mag – I agreed with you on one up front but I dont agree that 442 is sh%t, we went 10 games unbeaten at the start of last season with 442. The problem is it doesnt work with Cisse and HBA replacing Best and Oba. The former are better players but they dont close down defenders like the other two did plus Raylor and Guti were better down the left defensively than Santon and Guti. We used to play a pressing game with a high back four which condensed the midfield and compensated for Tiote and Cabaye”s lack of pace. Now we dont press and the oppo get into our half far too easily. 442 can work but not with the players AP is picking. This season is the real test of AP as a manager, he needs to play the best team not the best eleven. If that means upsetting some players, tough. Alex Ferguson has done it for years and it seems to have worked for him.

I like the idea of Jonas at fullback. Obviously, Pardew really wants a couple of work-horses in the team – which is fair enough – but Jonas doesn’t contribute anywhere near enough out wide.
I liked him in the middle last year. He linked up with Hatem really really well.

I think you can definatly see with jonas that he is being transformed in to a fullback/CDM think the only reason he started wide was cos marv had played thursday night and has just come off a season long lay off to full games in 48hrs prob was never gonna happen

TDS – I Like Jonas, combative and always gives 100%, however think Anita and Tiote would be better as a holding 2, Jonas for me cant play on the wing anymore, but him and Benny down the right would be great to watch at home, hope Pards might give it a go, think our team is evolving, however i am not known for my patience and i can see a super team already at the club,
If only Pardiola was a less cautious, last year at home he settled for 1-0 wins and shut up shop far to many times at home.

that could work as we already have the players at the club i think i would still like debuchy in at fullback more for his pace to get up and down the wing and for him feeling more comfortable in that possition .but jonas definatly worth a shot because he isnt a left winger

Exactly he seems to be caught between putting his players out or playing his best formation.
I think the following are no brainers.
1) Put Jonas at right or left back and have santon either stay where he is or move across, then we can have 2 attacking full backs because we are going nowhere with simpson at all.
2) Play 4-3-3 with Tiote, Cabaye and Anita in the middle. That’s a mouthwatering combo and plays to their strengths, especially Cabaye who gets totally bypassed in a 442.
3) Rotate Cisse and Ba and play 1 up top. I like Ba, but we can’t let Ba dictate our system. We could have 60 games this season and let benny and Marveux our most creative forwards play around them.
4) Forget about wasting money on Carroll, he isn’t a different option, just a desperate one.

72 Premiership Manager // Aug 26, 2012 at 7:14 PM
It makes my blood boil when people state we should play 4-3-3 do you not know anything about football?
Against Chelsea and any other top 5 team away we should be playing 4-5-1, or 4-4-1-1 with HBA sat behind the striker. playing HBA,Cisse and Ba up-front leaves too many gaps in midfield and that was clearly demonstrated yesterday, when thay kept giving the ball away and leaving the defence exposed.
At home or against mediocre competition 4-3-3 is fine however there is a time and a place for it.
If we lose Tiote or Cabaye it will be a loss to the squad however £15M for either player would be a realistic price that would test the club. Quotes of £20-30M for either player are way off the mark because despite them both being very good players neither is worth more than £20M max

Having caught up with the postings and discarded much of the dross and negative same olds same olds it was refreshing to read
Super Magpie @ 9 – may I congratulate you on a well thought out piece. However, I don’t see Pardew as being stubborn in playing 4-4-2 it was more a case of the art of the possible. I have reason to believe
that much of what you seek he shares but in the absence of Tiote he can’t deliver. Tiote and Anita playing in front of a back four with both full backs overlapping in a 4-2-3-1 is his preferred option. But this is not possible with Simpson and nobody capable just yet of adequately playing the Tiote covering role. A Debuchy signing would be a big plus but should the signing not materialise. I could see
Santon switching to the right and Jonas playing at left back. I also
favour Ben Arfa being given a freer role somewhat in the Hazard
mode. This would allow us to play with one up top either Cisse or Ba.
Ba on occasion could play on the left of the three somewhat as he did in the second half against Spurs. Also Cabaye who looks short of match fitness could play in an advanced role where he is most effective
linking the play. The priority is too strengthen the defence before adding to the forward cover. There was little wrong with our Chelsea performance because 4 very good chances were created which Cisse
and Ba can usually be relied upon to convert We didn’t lose because of the system we employed but clearly the side would gain from freeing up the more creative Ben Arfa and Cabaye from defensive duties . Those that condemn 4-2-3-1 largely do so because they consider it with current personnel -but Simpson is incapable of playing an attacking role. Certainly 4-5-1 away from home is more easily understood but it doesn’t have to be a negative system especially with the quality wide players we now have.

Gateshead mag – morals??
Was that when he kept taking 60K a week when he was in prison and basically having 1 good half a season in 5 on full pay. Saying Barton has morals is like saying Simpson is the best attacking full back in the premiership.

It was so bad yesterday I thought of not bothering with this blog ever again.. just so much garbage being spouted. Glad you agree TADS.
Beattie got a miserable mood on and loads of people were one-upping on Pards tactics saying he needed to get away from 4-4-2. Well I’m a 4-3-3 man meself but he has got his reasons and I trust his judgement. There are just so many know it all Footbal Managers on here who know even less than Panini Kets.

I cant believe there isnt another attacking right back that we can find, or move Santon over there and find anotehr left back – or try Guti there, although its not ideal. Much as i love Pards, he seems to have got it wrong when he said Ba and Cisse could play together because Ba would come short and Cisse play furthest forward? The team badly lacks creativity at present, but pre season wasnt great on that score either as far as i could see.
101 MagpiesFlyHigh // Aug 26, 2012 at 8:43 PM

Agree about 4-4-2… Pards is compromising given who he has available… Also Torres would have scored the killer second goal regardless of formation. The team can play crap in 4-4-2 and crap in 4-5-1. That’s how it goes.
Conversion of chances and half chances is d
own to the killer instincts of our strikers and they were just too blunt to be effective. Would have been the same in 4-3-3 or whatever

Gateshead – Ben Arfa was class, but Jonas stopped so many attacks. Also, you couldn’t see on camera, but I could as I was at the game, he was shouting and organising all game, he kept Santon/Simpson in line and in position all game, such an under-rated input

a manager has to keep his players happy but not to the detriment of the team.
Ba has an option for me
1. play near enough every game on the left
2. play through the middle but rotate with cisse.
A manager cannot let a player dictate where and how he plays.
Sturridge tried this with Di Matteo….he wouldn’t track back when starting out wide, he only went for goal and didn’t set people up….so he was benched and rarely gets more than 20 minutes.
is sturridge a better option that bertrand…..yes…but if you dont do your job as asked you dont get a go.
If it is true Ba demanded a middle role then he is just lucky he is at a club where there isn’t many better options for us.
113 Rotonda heights // Aug 26, 2012 at 8:55 PM
The way Perch has played lately i would have been tempted to go 433 with him replacing Tiote. 433 can become 451 and vice verca very quickly. Shame we didn’t go for moses instead of best when he was only 2.5M. Would have been ideal out left in a front 3.

116 Transfer Sage // Aug 26, 2012 at 8:59 PM
I think the only problem with the chelsea game was the 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 (ba did drop just behind cisse sometimes).
A lot of the game balls were played long from defence to attack…there was little involvement from the midfield except ben arfa.
Jonas offers nothing out wide (not his fault as he is clearly given a very defensive role)
Cabaye and Anita had too much to do in the middle…they struggled to contain and this tired them out which ruined them offensively.
117 Ian Toon // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:05 PM
Magpies Fly High- your right at the end of the day we didn’t ‘t take our chances and that had nothing to do with the formation. I thought Mata , Hazard and Torres were outstanding and. Anita is class but is getting used to the Premiership. For the life of me I can’t understand why so many are so negative about our chances. The Europa will help fast track the reserve/ academy players and that will give us strength in numbers which we currently lack. Still think we have a few positive surprises to come before the window closes.

Completly agree about jonas the man is a through and through leader fir us on the pitch and seems to be covering 4-5 positions throughout the game! He was basically doing what benny was doing but defensivly he was everywhere for us breaking attacks down!
Transfer sage
I agree no player should demand where they play but i also think its short sighted to say your gonna play on the left all season, players should be picked based on there performances on the pitch and in training etc and at the moment this season i dont think anyone can argue that demba looks like he’s hitting form was great against tottenham and played well against chelsea made some great runs to create space for cisse who was anonymous, carved himself some decent chances out if very little and was unlucky not to score

totally agree but i dont think ba has been trying to dictate his role, i think the only reason him being on the left was discussed was the fact it coincided with his goals drying up and he was probably just using that as a reason. then the press do what they are good at and twist it. ba’s always said hes happy to do a job for the team.
120 Transfer Sage // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:11 PM

thats where the rotation policy comes in
Ba is the man in form upfront so should be in ahead of cisse. Cisse can come off the bench and start in europa.
Its the best way, make them both earn every start they get. The competition will spur them on to be the best as they are competing with each other for the one spot.
Then if they both need to play for whatever reason start one on the left, ideally ba but could try cisse too.
So many people and managers (mainly england managers it seems) can grasp that the best team doesn’t always contain the best players.
121 Munster Mag // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:11 PM
I think those who were comfortable about releasing Ba should now realise how useful this guy is to us. He made last season for us. It may turn out that Cisse is the one who doesnt fit us….
122 papattack // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:13 PM
i think the major tweak the team needs is more attack from the right side, santon gets forward but simpsons more defensive. benny seems to be getting more of a free role too but thats difficult with the two strikers on the pitch.
123 Transfer Sage // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:16 PM

i think thats right, i was just going off the paper reports but pardew was quoted saying ba would get a more central role, he never said ba demanded one, so i am probably doing him a disservice.
I just want to see pardew be brave and drop players to get his best team out there, not his bets 11.
Maybe pardew thinks this is his best team and he knows them all more than me, i’m just think that we played our best in a 4-3-3.
I know being attacking leaves spaces in behind but all the top teams in the league play fast, attacking football and commit a lot of men forward.
The thing that holds us back seems to be fear and the feeling of inadequacy. Our players are good enough to take control of games.
We might not be as good as man city or chelsea but we are certainly able to go toe to toe with spurs, arsenal and liverpool. These three teams try to dominate games and usually do, we need to let off the shackles and attack and worry teams, not worry about them.

What I think is we do, I dont care who just good players. My point I tried to make earlier which was shot down is that swansea got Michu for 2mil, everton got Mirallas for 4.5mil, west brom got lukaku on loan, etc.
these players would have been good for us and available for very acceptable fees.
Thats my frustration, not that we haven’t spent the ‘extra million here and there’ on players, just that we have missed out on relatively cheap and good alternatives if our first choice are too expensive.

I think we do need a CB tbh because as much as i like the lad its to dangerous to rely on s.taylor all season, fb tbf im not as bothered as some dont think simmo is a bad as made out and at worst i think santon could shift to RB and would be confident with jonas at LB, mind you after all the debuchy shite i’d like to see him sign purely cos it feels like he’s already been here for months!
Pieters i think would be a good shout can play CB/LB
Think we need another CF as AP said a young striker but would like to see that gamero lad we were linked with last year

Transfer sage,
None of us know the inner workings of the club, but Carr can’t be at every game in every league and even if we did show interest, some players won’t sign unless they get guaranteed starting places: eg I think we could have maybe got Luuk De Jong if we could have said he would be starting week in week out,how do you know Michu would have came if he was told he would only be playing Thursday nights until Ba or Cisse went on ACON or got injured for 25K a week, how do we know that all our players said we don’t want Adam Johnson here he’s a wan*er,all I do know is that I’ll be really upset about the money I spend on this club I love if the only signing of note this summer is Vernon Anita.
139 APBWA // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:34 PM
would like to see ben arfa and cabaye have more free roles in CM/CAM, then also defend when they dont have the ball, then an attacking RB so the full backs would bring the width in attack… way forward imo, look at city, albeit with great players, but 4-2-2-2, completely dominating midfield

I didn’t mean those players specifically, I was just making a comparison that while we have been pursuing targets other clubs have got some very good players at relatively low fees.
Also Carr is the tip of the ice berg. He will have connections himself, the club will have multiple scouts watching multiple leagues.
I dont know which league we scout (other than french and dutch as the papers mainly say) but surely we have a scout of two in spain. Its one of the most technical league in the world so we must have somebody there watching people.
I just think that if the club dont want to pay the fees for the players we have been linked with there should have been a much more effective back up plan.
Unless they are very confident we will get some of them close to deadline day.

Aside from Debuchy, I cant see us doing much at transfer deadline – it doesnt seem to be our style. I think, if we dont invest, we should see this as a poor window, and an opportunity wasted. To say otherwise shows a complete lack of ambition for the club. Remember, most fans arent expecting us to spend silly money , just appropriate amounts around the 6-7 mill for players who are worth this.

NufcSteve yes I would prefer 12 million to be spent on a couple of players and not Carroll. 12 million would go along way for us with graham Carr in charge, two quality players judging by recent signings. I don’t even rate Carroll that highly, he can’t get in te Liverpool team and has a rubbish scoring record. Would rather sign Antoine Sibierski again and have him upfront
151 Munster Mag // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:46 PM
Interestingly, unless Cisse starts to work harder, this brilliant finisher may become the one who is dropped if Pards decides to play Ba centrally, and get Marveaux and Ben Arfa far up the pitch. I still think he will play a lot of 4-4-2 this season in order to get both men on the pitch. To get both men on, and Ben Arfa roaming, means that Debuchy is not what we want as our right winger will be a mess defensively.

I posted earlier but left before I had chance to see replies.
I saw on sky sports news that next season the new sky contract starts where clubs get an extra 70% in tv money. And also the BT deal starts giving even more.
Maybe Ashley is keeping sensible this year, not buying too many, just enough to keep us top 8ish and see what happens. Then next year when we have a lot more money we can spend a bit bigger and still be in a self sufficient model.
Or……he saw we did very well last year with this current team and he is just expecting pardew to achieve the same.
I mean we were 9 points ahead of everton and 13 head of liverfool so maybe he thinks it wont take much to stay ahead of them.

Pick players up from the age 14-19, arsenal do this better than anyone.
Train your own and supplement with the best from the world, it just takes a huge scouting set up and a lot of connections.
We also play too long anyway when we play 4-4-2, at least with carroll it has a chance to work.
171 Munster Mag // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:59 PM
But Transfer Sage, Liverpool will improve significantly on last season – i’m sure by 10 points or more – and Everton seem to have both ambition, and a scouting network. I still hope we will make signings, but logic dictates that we had our chance. Debuchy at best methinks, but maybe Douglas in January? Mind you. i’m not sure what Douglas offers ahead of Taylor, unless Pards fancies playing 3 at the back?
172 Jail for Ashley // Aug 26, 2012 at 9:59 PM
No matter how well we done last season and how much faith we put in Carr and Pards,I will see it as a real slap in the face for us paying fans if after selling Forster and Best and ridding the wage bill of Smith if the only signing is Anita, especially seeing our lowly rivals just splash out 25M,but I am reserving judgement.

Been reading blog for a while but this is my first post so go easy on me …… As long as we keep hold of our key players and add two in this window i will be happy formations will be mixed all season(i hope) but def think 4-5-1 would suit our current crop o players as ba and cisse individually good player but do not play as a duo ! Rather get an attacking foward/winger in the mould of Junior hoilett £4 or more expensive Victor moses with Benny either side of BA/Cisse

186 USToonRaider // Aug 26, 2012 at 10:09 PM
@Ian Toon and others..well said well said
All this whining about formations and he lack of cohesion/fit in the 4-4-2 is correct..however
Tiote was injured. So….any thought of a 4-2-3-1 must be remembered in that light.
With his injury and lack of a quality attacking RB…the 4-2-3-1 must wait
I think most Toon fans see the potential of quality defense and exciting midfield control/attack of a 4-2-3-1 if we get Debuchy at RB
I must say……
(4)Debuchy-Colo-STaylor-Santon
(2) Tiote-Anita
(3)HBA-Cabaye-Marv
(1) Cisse/Ba
Is clearly first class and with time to gel and form cohesion and fitness together, can IMO play with any side in the world.
However…with the window closing…without Debuchy and the depth at CB we need….it may be a pipedream.
As for Ba/Cisse..both are excellent finishers, ball strikers and good in the air…..but they are also too similar to play side by side and neither is quick/skilled enough to play on the wing.
Its not an attack…..its just the facts. There will be more than enough playing time for both….Why not share the time at Center Striker?
But overall….9th on the table with this week?…..Im well pleased….just keep Tiote and move forwards Lads

i agree with the best team part and not best players but i do think its difficult which to go for.
sometimes having your best players on wins you the game i.e spurs, other games you have the best team out play good football and control the game but lose. its the gamble of having the matchwinners on or trying to control the game.
i think we’ll have a good season as long as we dont unlucky with injuries and can add a couple.
looking forward to us running riot against villa, they look very poor
190 SupaToonKid // Aug 26, 2012 at 10:14 PM
If we’re prepared to offer £10-12M for Carroll, I’d rather we spent that on Moussa Dembelé. He’d add so much to our side with creativity, versatility & attacking threat. No offence to Raylor etc. but our bench doesn’t look very dangerous in a way that could impact the game.
I’d love us to sign Douglas & Dembelé before the window closes. A FB (still think Debuchy could happen) as well would be great. Remy would be my second FW option if we missed out on Dembelé.
191 ToonDownSouth // Aug 26, 2012 at 10:15 PM

What is the opposite of a neggar? Is it a Posser? A Poser?
A Tosser?
I don’t personally buy the “we got outplayed by Chelsea, as they can afford to spend £80m on players.” argument. Ten years ago, we were the bigger club. We still have much larger gates. We both have billionaire owners. The difference is that Chelsea’s owner sees his club as a sporting proposition. He wants style and success.
Ours is an Anglo-Saxon capitalist. His heart is in asset stripping.
I’m not much interested in blind faith or zealotry. It creates hysterical pipsqueak little Ayatollahs screaming “burn the traitor” at anyone who offers constructive criticism.
More positive, I think, to say “I’m not sure where we are going here”, than sit back for a smug “I told you so” later.
The business plan has been laid out. Carr said: “if we don’t get who we want for what we want, we won’t buy anyone.”
Pardew said: “the target for last season was eighth. It still is.”
We’ve been told.
This is the business plan that’s “the envy of the league.”
We won’t buy defenders who don’t have the potential to clear £5m profit in two years time. Debuchy himself, in castigating the Lille chairman for not allowing him to go, argued that as a defender, he’d never be worth more than six million. Do Ashley’s maths.
We’ll likely sell any midfielders who clear the £10 to £15 million profit bar. Talk of £25 million before we sell Tiote or Cabaye is whistling in the dark. Ashley will sell at the highest price, even if that is deadline day. He’ll tell Pardew. “You have other players I’m paying. Play them!”
They’ll hope to get £25 million for Cisse. It’s a five year plan. Not a six or a ten year one. What is at the end of five years? A European trophy? It’s possibly that’s not his priority.
Llambias’s gobsh*t* trashing of clubs he’s screwed suggests not networking for the future, but barrow boy braggadocio. It suggests five years is their out. Not a penny lost. Bailed out (by us) and bailing out. Cockney pride satisfied.
Football is about competition.
Football needs business acumen. But it’s a sporting, and not a business, venture.
You can draw up as many alternative line-ups as you like. You are shuffling 11 players, and that could be 10 or nine soon. I’d love to be wrong.
I am not trying to prosletyse for my opinions. Better I think to say “I’m not sure where we are going” now, than sit back for a smug “I told you so” later.
Some guy called Einstein once said that the definition of madness was doing the same failed thing in the hope that next time it will work. That’s for Pardew’s 4-4-2. Some other guy called Jesus also said “you shall no the tree by its fruit.” That’s for Mike Ashley and the other “big beasts” on this site.
Judgement day is five days away.

Totally disagree mate, there can be no comparison to NUFC and Chelsea, yes we get bigger gates and yes we both have billionaire owners but Abramovich has spent a billion in assembling a squad that hasn’t properly challenged for the title in 3 years.
They won the Champions League but the gods of fates smiled heavily upon them in doing so and have spent 80million quid this season to rectify the mismanagement of that club in order to try and obtain the PL and CL again.
Abramovich doesn’t treat Chelsea as a sporting venture he treats it as his own personal plaything, he signs players that he wants without consulting the manager (Schevchenko) and sacks managers even when they are working within his remit (AVB was tasked with the job of remolding the club and got sacked for doing it)
We were just outclassed by a better more expensive side and I for one do not agree that if deadline day passes and we still have no more signings that the end is nigh for us, it goes to show what little faith you have in our lads going forward.
The season is 38 games long and we have 3 points from 2 games with a much more exciting XI than we had last season, players are getting sharper and youngsters are clipping at the heels to get playing in the first team.
We do not have to spend big in order to compete, I for one like the way the club is being run and hopes it is run in this fashion for years to come. Stability is the name of the game, not breaking the bank to obtain CL football like Chelsea are doing.

Yeah, that’s fair enough – but seeing as on-field success (to a degree) is the way we’ll be running at a profit, it’s in Ashley’s interests to keep us fairly competative. After all, we recieved an extra £12m this season solely for the jump we made up the table.
Not sure if you ever read the comments on here, but I just usually find peoples valuations of our players absolutely mental. Talking £30m for Tiote, etc. It seems every transfer now has to be compared to Andy Carroll.

Break the bank? Nice article though. His pass% was awful. Interceptions good.

I don’t comment much on this lads but do ye agree that Simpson offers absolutely nothing to the team….. We have to get debuchy
262 Toon73 // Aug 27, 2012 at 2:20 AM
I’m the opposite Pete – got my home shirt delivered from the UK this morning CISSE 9
Still confident of Douglas and a ST this week perhaps Toivonen.
263 Sav // Aug 27, 2012 at 2:20 AM
We certainly need Debuchy if we are to make anything of getting Carroll back, because without Enrique, we need someone who can cross a ball. Having said that, there’s been rubbish spouted about Jonas, who, imo, was vital yesterday. The guy was everywhere and if the rest were as alert and hard-working at this stage in the season, we might have got something from Stamford Bridge. Also credit to Anita for playing full 180 minutes in 48 hours.

any1 knows how to stop auto sub in the league?
265 Brutooon // Aug 27, 2012 at 4:26 AM
1) Jonas is hardworking but no end product
2) Jonas can play left back or right back but i PREFER Santon. He still trying to adapt with the premierleague so give this lad a chance. Jose Enrique took two season and one championship years before he improve a lot.

Arsene Wenger in 2007:
“I guarantee Henry will NOT LEAVE Arsenal this summer..”
Arsene Wenger in 2011:
“Cesc and Nasri ARE STAYING”
Arsene Wenger in Jun 2012:
“I am certain Robin will STAY with us”
Arsene Wenger in Aug 2012:
“There’s nothing going on with Song…We’ve never had any contact with Barcelona”
Arsene in Aug 2012:
“Tiote is a good player, but he’s not on his way to Arsenal.”
I don’t like where this is going.

Definitive
Harper.
Perch,Williamson,Good,Ferguson.
Bigirimana,Anita.
Amilfitano,Vuckic,Marveaux.
Campbell.
That’s settled!!!!!!!!
Tavernier was caught out especially in the first half at fullback. We could give him another chance because he improved second half or go wii Perch the main fullback challenger for the first team. It’s interesting that Tavernier was played at centreback pre season to good reviews and that could be his best position . Want to see more of Tavernier but not sure if this is the right game.
271 magpiebop // Aug 27, 2012 at 5:59 AM
Amalfitano showed enough last week as sub to oust Obertan. Hope Obertan is sold before thursdays game to be honest!

Can’t see perch at RB.

im quite frustated with the way we play our game. we tends to defend more in the last 2 games rather than goin out to attack. Attacking is the best defending rite? we are clueless with the ball when we are attacking. everyone seems to wait rather than move/run ard to create openings etc.. dun hav to play beautiful football but pass-and-run works for me… simple can be beautiful too!
276 RedMissionBells // Aug 27, 2012 at 8:24 AM
We need to sign a Right Back and Left Winger as soon as possible.
Danny Simpson is very uncomfortable on the ball. Most of his passes are back to Coloccini. When he does cross the ball, he is in fact, ‘chopping’ the ball. This technique create a floating cross which is less effective in our league as the strikers are always very tightly marked. Simpson will make a very good squad player, definitely not a first team player. We also need to replace Jonas. He is better suited for long distance running than football. He does not create enough. TBH, if Jonas assist more than 4 times in a season, he has overachieved. Neither does he score a lot. We need quality.

@199:
Forgive my stupidity B & B but what does “prosletyse”! mean exactly?
Hate to play you at Scrabble!
If you wish to bring your points across here in a clear manner then you will need to use simpler English to do so! Some of the less intelligent people on here, myself included may have problems understanding what you are trying to get across!
Read most of what has been written on here and agree with most of it !
Getting Carroll back may or may not be a good move, but i feel we would be better using the money on a better player. There are plenty out there, but heh the concensus on here is that 17 Mil spent on Carroll would be a good move! Who knows?
The Tiote situation frankly worries me a lot, as i think basically we are Shite without him in front of the back , four/ three; or whatever system the manager plays. Tiote when he comes back is and would be strong presence in any mid-field.
Which is also why i would have a 30Mil price tag on any Transfer which may or may not happen! His sale for me would be a major disaster for NUFC!
Rooney,s injury yesterday may be potentially carreer threatening. I hope not, but the gash in his leg was very deep and is being compared to a Shark bite this morning in some reports. This may then rule him out for three, maybe even four months. Bad news for England and also for Manure, just hope that he recovers well but he will be out of action for the long term!
As for the Transfer window, well they have now got till midnight friday to either get someone in or sell off our best players. We will know the whole situation more when we run out against the Villains this week-end.

I admit I have constructed a possible theory on the basis of some speculation (most theories have an element of speculation). I have also tried to rely on quotes, from Carr and Pardew, and past events to support my case.
Ashley played Russian roulette with Liverpool over Andy Carroll, knowing they had £50m they HAD to spend burning a hole in their pockets. What he did may have made perfect business sense, and the money DID stay in the club, inasmuch as Ashley IS the club. Enrique was a more typical example. He achieved a decent resale margin for a defender, but sold at Enrique’s market value. Both sales left the club temporarily weaker on the pitch.
Here is another, recent, quote from AP, to the effect that.; “We’ll give Champions’ League qualification a good shot this season, but the owner isn’t going to bankroll that.”
Eighth fits the business plan better than top five does, and that appears to be the official target, again, quoting Pardew.
My fear is that when you take your foot off the gas, even a little, you can’t control how far you will fall back.
It could well be that the five-year plan aims to produce a Champion’s League team in a couple of years, and holes in the present squad will be filled by Friday. It could also be that player sales down the line will recoup Ashley’s investment, while debt clearance and a reduced wage bill will make selling up the obvious outcome of the plan. I hope it’s the former. Or at least something that hints at trying to win something, rather than merely hoping too.
If something walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s sensible to be open to the possibility that it might just BE a duck.
Either way, he will likely have left the club in a better position than he found it. But more years of my life may have passed without silverware. I love football, not Monopoly.
I have never posted before. I had something to get off my chest. I have no intention of becoming a stuck record. I’m off the board now, waiting and hoping with fingers crossed for the next week.
