There have been a number of reports that Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, was interested in getting Cheick Tiote to the Gunners, Newcastle’s top defensive midfielder.
Cheick Tiote – in action last week against Tottenham
Arsene spoke after Arsenal’s second 0-0 draw in a row this season, this time at Stoke, and he was asked if Tiote would be a replacement for the departed Alex Song, who went to Barcelona for £15M last week.
And there was even news today in the Sunday Mirror that we covered, that said that Arsenal had already asked Newcastle United about Tiote.
But it seems that Arsene Wenger may have put an end to the speculation – we hope he has put an end to the speculation.
This is what Arsene said when he was asked about the speculation linking Tiote with the Gunners:
“Tiote is a good player, but he’s not on his way to Arsenal.”
Alan Pardew is hoping that he can keep all his players through next Saturday when the transfer window will be over, so it looks like Arsenal are not after Cheick.
That’s good news.
Since joining Newcastle from FC Twente for £3.5M in the summer of 2010, Tiote has played 53 times for Newcastle with that one fantastic goal against Arsenal eighteen months ago, which leveled the scores at 4-4, after Newcastle had been 4-0 down after 26 minutes.

Maybe initially but i genuinely think anita has been bought in to play alongside him, but looking at the bench yesterday i think that was prob the strongest team he could put out, also think it prob would of changed to a 4-3-3 if it wasnt for cisse bieng missing

Comment #44Not sure were to stand with Rooney, lad scores goals in the PL, however never really impressed me for some time, rarely fit and for me is not that dedicated, was a disgrace at the Euro’s for England, fat shit and then went on holiday after it for more beer and lazing around, the boy peaked when he was 17.
If i was fergy i would get some money for him now if he could, RVP is much better for me.

Comment #45Super Mag – I agreed with you on one up front but I dont agree that 442 is sh%t, we went 10 games unbeaten at the start of last season with 442. The problem is it doesnt work with Cisse and HBA replacing Best and Oba. The former are better players but they dont close down defenders like the other two did plus Raylor and Guti were better down the left defensively than Santon and Guti. We used to play a pressing game with a high back four which condensed the midfield and compensated for Tiote and Cabaye”s lack of pace. Now we dont press and the oppo get into our half far too easily. 442 can work but not with the players AP is picking. This season is the real test of AP as a manager, he needs to play the best team not the best eleven. If that means upsetting some players, tough. Alex Ferguson has done it for years and it seems to have worked for him.

Comment #48Mot7- think i would change debuchy for Jonas and then we have a good FOOTBALLING side already at the club, capable of fighting it out with the teams challenging for 4th place.

I like the idea of Jonas at fullback. Obviously, Pardew really wants a couple of work-horses in the team – which is fair enough – but Jonas doesn’t contribute anywhere near enough out wide.
I liked him in the middle last year. He linked up with Hatem really really well.

I think you can definatly see with jonas that he is being transformed in to a fullback/CDM think the only reason he started wide was cos marv had played thursday night and has just come off a season long lay off to full games in 48hrs prob was never gonna happen

Comment #54TDS – I Like Jonas, combative and always gives 100%, however think Anita and Tiote would be better as a holding 2, Jonas for me cant play on the wing anymore, but him and Benny down the right would be great to watch at home, hope Pards might give it a go, think our team is evolving, however i am not known for my patience and i can see a super team already at the club,
If only Pardiola was a less cautious, last year at home he settled for 1-0 wins and shut up shop far to many times at home.

that could work as we already have the players at the club i think i would still like debuchy in at fullback more for his pace to get up and down the wing and for him feeling more comfortable in that possition .but jonas definatly worth a shot because he isnt a left winger

Comment #56I can’t believe you’re complaining about the chelsea game. i have a few friends who are chelski fans, they said thats the best they’ve played for awhile, as they were passing and moving. TORRES is back. Hazzard is awesome
2-0 but should of had a Ba goal thats the only issue i have with the result

That’s more of a pity then isn’t it when he saw what did and didn’t work and went back to what didn’t!!! I don’t know what’s worse!! We had 6 wins on the spin playing 433 and things seemed smooth and cohesive but we look very uncomfortable and restricted in a 442

Comment #63Got to go. If you got time, i suggest you to watch PSG Bordeaux. Will be a good game. You know much about Paris, but there’s good players in Bordeaux, like Plasil, Obraniak or Gouffran.
Pay particular attention to Bordeaux’s LB, Trémoulinas. The lad would be perfect for us as far as i’m concerned.
Bonne soirée messieurs.

Exactly he seems to be caught between putting his players out or playing his best formation.
I think the following are no brainers.
1) Put Jonas at right or left back and have santon either stay where he is or move across, then we can have 2 attacking full backs because we are going nowhere with simpson at all.
2) Play 4-3-3 with Tiote, Cabaye and Anita in the middle. That’s a mouthwatering combo and plays to their strengths, especially Cabaye who gets totally bypassed in a 442.
3) Rotate Cisse and Ba and play 1 up top. I like Ba, but we can’t let Ba dictate our system. We could have 60 games this season and let benny and Marveux our most creative forwards play around them.
4) Forget about wasting money on Carroll, he isn’t a different option, just a desperate one.

Comment #66would love to see Tiote and Anita in dm. with our team pressing high. Cabs, HBA and Marveaux creating goals for Cisse/Ba. I really don’t think 4-4-2 works with our players could see us demolishing teams with that midfield and fullbacks stretching play

sounds good to me i just think pardew feels comfortable coaching a 4 4 2 formation but still wants to play all of our best players if thats the case he should have bought players to fit the system no point in playing passing players if there gona spend 90 mins chasing the ball about the pitch or getting a sore neck watching it sail back and forth over their heads pards need to adapt to what hes brought in

Comment #72It makes my blood boil when people state we should play 4-3-3 do you not know anything about football?
Against Chelsea and any other top 5 team away we should be playing 4-5-1, or 4-4-1-1 with HBA sat behind the striker. playing HBA,Cisse and Ba up-front leaves too many gaps in midfield and that was clearly demonstrated yesterday, when thay kept giving the ball away and leaving the defence exposed.
At home or against mediocre competition 4-3-3 is fine however there is a time and a place for it.
If we lose Tiote or Cabaye it will be a loss to the squad however £15M for either player would be a realistic price that would test the club. Quotes of £20-30M for either player are way off the mark because despite them both being very good players neither is worth more than £20M max
