There are reports coming out of France today that Real Madrid are interested in 27 year-old Lille defender Mathieu Debuchy, and that the Spanish club are ready to make a bid of €10M for the French International right back.
Real Madrid are in for the French International Mathieu Debuchy
France Football are reporting that Real Madrid have made Debuchy a definite transfer target, and Jose Mourinho’s club are apparently willing to pay €10M (£7.9M)to get their man, and that will leave Newcastle out in left-field, even if they had decided to go in one more time for the French International, and try to agree a fee with his club Lille – for the umpteenth time.
This is what comes of haggling over £1M, which is what Lille wanted over and above Newcastle’s best offer so far, and if the news is true and Real Madrid are going after the Frenchman, we can all kiss Debuchy goodbye.
News out of Spain tonight suggests that Real have already put in a bid of €10M, and that wouldn’t be surprising, since there’s only until Friday for the deal to go through, and even though Debuchy wanted to come to Newcastle, Real Madrid are one of the biggest and best football clubs in the world, and won the European Cup for the first five years of its existence.
Real Madrid are said to be unhappy with the form of current right-back and former Liverpool player Álvaro Arbeloa.
The news yesterday was that Newcastle were about to go in with a new €7.5M bid for Debuchy, which is why the Spanish giants are going in quite a bit above that figure, and their bid will be very likely be accepted by Lille, since it’s even above the club’s own valuation of their player.
This is one of the problems with Newcastle’s transfer policy – that they hold out and hold out for a good deal – but if the player’s really good, some top clubs can just come in and bid what the selling club wants – and they get the player – in a New York minute.
As an example, we wouldn’t pay more than £1M for left-back Neil Taylor of Swansea last summer, and now how much is the lad worth? Manchester United are now said to be interested in getting him to Old Trafford.
So we can overdo the thrift bit of the transfer deals a little bit too much, and Newcastle seem to have done that with Debuchy, and it now remains to be seen if Newcastle try to get a defender through the door before Saturday rolls around.
Debuchy is still injured and will not play against Copenhagen in the Champions League qualifier tomorrow night, which Lille are trailing 1-0 after the first leg away from home.
Bottom line – if this news is correct, we’ve missed out on Mathieu Debuchy.

Comment #41I agree with what u saying beef mate it’s just annoying when you look at his net spending yer he is shrewd. But come on mate we should at least b spending 10,20 million just as a reward for getting into Europe. If we spent only that and got a couple decent players in,then we can certainly push on from last season. That is of course if we don’t lose any players!

MA buys assets for his business. We just don’t see eye to eye with Lille.
Not gonna happen but would love to see MA sign Dempsey just to screw the scousers over some more lol

Let me start by saying I agree and disagree with comments you have both made.
Beefman – The reason Debuchy has not been sought after is it is most likely clear that his preferred destination is here. Any club even enquiring with his agent(s) would most likely be told this. Real Madrid, Inter Milan and likes of Man City are exceptions to Debuchy and his preferred location.
Couchy – Mike Ashley is not a prick. He is a business man, perhaps tight yes but lets remember he deserves our respect. Had it not been for Mike Ashley you may not have had a club to support these days, or possibly if still active in a lower division. It is impossible to tell what would have happened had Shepard continued is reign but one thing is for certain. The club was in massive debt, money had been used we had not even received and we werent improving!
He is tight as stated, and frustrating to actually know 1-2m would have sealed the deal here. BUT ultimately he cannot be a prick when he is one of the main reasons we have done so well in the past 2 seasons!
Time for the Ashley haters to drop the pitch forks and just accept, and acknowledge his contribution to the club! The guy has loaned an interest free introduction of cash worth up to 200m! And has somehow managed to scrape a youngish team fighting for top half positions, in Europe AND ultimately self sustaining!
What else can he do?! If he was to crumble then it would go against what we have built recently at the club.
I too am frustrated and slightly angry when it comes to Debuchy as 1-2m for a player of his quality is nothing in todays game. But Beefman has rightly stated if we are held to randsom now, when would it ever end?

Comment #44Anyone else heard Mackems are trying to get Henderson back on loan?! lol
Look I hate Sunderland as much as anyone else who supports Newcastle but I would love this to happen!
Even more so if we managed to scrape Carroll back on loan!
That would be 55m worth of purchase made by “King Kenny” which looks to like BR wants rid!
Hell even Sterling a 17 year old kid is preferred over a 18m Downing lol

Its a loan, if he actually does well they will lose a ‘key’ player next season. What is not to like about it?
Sunderland are nowhere near us in terms of quality in both youth and starting 11!
The only players that could possibly make our team are Sess, Mcclean and Johnson.
And only 1 would play, and have to compete with Jonas who has been an outstanding squad player! Would those 3 work like Jonas does, Mcclean maybe so should they sign Henderson I really am not worried.
I would just like to laugh at Liverfools more in the mean time! Then Sunderland after the spend 25m and still get spanked of us!

Comment #50paw/couchy i to am a tad frustrated thats why i am on every device every 5 mins looking for signings, his philosophy business wise is value for money, he loves parking his tank on other companys lawns and waits them out, now at this moment us punters could tear our hair out he wont budge, well not at least till the very end, he stands his ground, its not always good for us supporters cos we want players and we want them now but he has a way of doing business which has proved a great sucsess for us in the last 3 years, just let us get to that point for starters then we can see were we stand ie have we sold any have we any more in, many would say not selling any is the best signing we could make, i feel another one coming in though. and no one going out. ps i do feel frustration i just know how the fella does his business and he is as good as anyone in the country at tit, like him or loathe him hes got balls of steel for a deal!

Comment #51To be honest I think no more will be signed, Carrol is a big smoke screen with Ashley pulling the strings. We had no intention signing him just the board trying to appease the supporters.
I may be proved wrong, and here’s hoping I am, as we’re all in the same boat. Wishing, wanting and Dreaming!

Comment #53american, i just think their is frustration and we want certain players in to the club its a natural thing, i will say amilifitano will prove a fantastic buy for us, as will bigirimana, and having watched young adam campbell all his career he is going to be a geordie legend, he really is sh.t of a stick when he gets on that last defender its game over, terrific finisher and link up play is top drawer as well.

Comment #54To be honest it is great that Newcastle haggle if we go and pay that extra million then we will show to all hat newcastle will pay over the odds, then we will be held to ransom by all clubs and in the long run we will not get the players we want. Better to lose out on one player and in the future get better deals and more players. Of qualityfor less.in the meantime let’s pray we keep the players we have.

Comment #62I do agree with Ashley in some aspects of his business. I for one hate seeing players command huge fees and get massive salarys each week. It’s great that we don’t do it that way,but I agree with u Gav mate we need to push the boat out slightly more than we are at present! Am not saying buy egos who just want to come for the money. But if a player like the calibre of debuchy says “I want to join nufc” then we should be buying players like this!!!

Comment #64If Lille lose to Copenhagen tonight the word is they have to sell Debuchy for the money as they’ve spent all the hazard cash on various deals. Tonight will be crucial for the Debuchy deal, maybe it’s no surprise there’s been a link of Madrid interest. Brinkmanship springs to mind

I’m quite surprised other teams havent been trying to buy him given the Lille transfer saga became very public due to newcastle pussy footing. hes a cracking player and for 6mil im surprised hes still there.

Comment #67Humor me here, why is reporters always think righ clubs are willingly to pay over the asking price?
Lille are not asking that much for Debuchy; surely Real if it is true would just table the asking price 🙂
I don’t buy this one minute and I don’t really care either.

Comment #68Why would madrid pay €2 mil more than what lille are asking for? This is no different as to when they were claiming chelsea would pay €10 mil!
I see spuds have agreed a fee for dembele shame great player but £15 mil is a lot of cash for a player that seems to stuggle so much with injuries
Also think we should be putting a cheeky bid in for sinclair seeing as city’s deal has fallen through, looks like walcotts being flogged as well doubt we could offer him the wages though

Comment #70Why all the clamour for Debuchy? Now that we have Anita, why not play Jonas at LB as he IMO is a better all round player than Debuchy and given that we now have Marvaux, Amalfitano, Anita, Tiote, Cabaye, HBA, Obertan, Sammy Aeomobi and Gosling it would be good to let Jonas play at the back where he plays for Argentina and buy players that we actually need.
Sturridge for £10 would be a good investment and Sakho for around the same would be a good window and cover all options. I’m a big fan of Carroll but to be honest a player like Sturridge who is also a very good winger would be a much better option.
If we don’t sign anybody although I will be disappointed it won’t be the end of the world as we have some promising youth players who need to be bought into the first team. we used to have a habbit of paying OTT for players and selling them for nothing but ashley seems to have stopped this, however we now seem to be letting good promising players go for next to nothing instead of giving them a chance in the first team. Two food examples are Guthrie and Routledge who are playing very good football at the moment. we have some good squad players and it’s about time we started developing them by giving them time in the first team.

Comment #73pfft! Walcott.. whats he all about, benched for years, lacks balls, not much passion..winger or a striker? i thinks hes taking the p*** asking for 5mil and 100k a year.
Walcott’s people have told the club he isn’t prepared to sign a new five year deal worth £75k a week with a big signing on fee of around £5m. They want closer to £100k a week, putting him on an equal footing to many of his England colleagues

Comment #75Real Madrid in for dreamboat #2? Eau n’eau. If it is true then maybe its a blessing in disguise as Ashley and the Llama will be less eager to piss about haggling all summer like those irksome guys who frequent car boot sales and haggle the life out of the sellers. I say if because i notice these reports are all coming from France. Time will tell but i’ve resigned myself to not seeing him in the toon colours next yr. If he comes its a huge bonus.

Comment #77Oh No!! – the horror of it all /sarcasm
Seriously though, i don’t see Debuchy as being Real quality. An improvement for us over Simpson as far as attacking goes but not the be all end all of RB’s.
Personally i think we were pretty close to his actual valuation and i’m glad we haven’t caved in. Imho his price would be around what it was before the EURO’s…having 1 good tournament shouldn’t automatically inflate a player’s price and if that happens at least i’m confident MA won’t pay that inflated price but rather go in at the “regular fee” and it pleases me that he does so.

Comment #80Dont have to buy Debuchy, theres planty of players out there.
BUT!!!
We must buy at least one defender, and a replacement striker, also replace every man, that leaves from now.
We saw whats our B team capable for, they cant push for top 4-6 , we hardly can rest our best players, or we struggle with most of the prem teams.
We dont need 10+ mill buys, but spending a sum of 15-20 mill for 3 players isnt a big cash. Or if we have only 2-3 mill to cash every year, we better go for more talented youngsters. Im waiting for a good Vuckic, Tavernier and so on for like 4 years. Vuckic is now 21-22 but still not showing that talent to replace Cabaye for example. Hes still not ready for the Prem. just like our other youngsters. Not even Sammy is an option compare to our first 11.
As long as these youngsters need developing, we need replacements in weak spots – fullback, centerback, striker.
