Andy Carroll is an easy going youngster, and he always been strong mentally, and news today that he’s even relaxed about his future, and the 23 year-old will be quite willing to stay at Anfield and fight for his place, if Newcastle fail to agree a deal with Liverpool to bring him back home.
Andy Carroll – in England colors
But there’s also news starting to come through that Liverpool will be bringing Clint Dempsey to Merseyside from Fulham before Saturday, so that will probably mean even less playing time for Andy with The Reds.
The Evening Chronicle today has some comments form a source close to Andy (Carroll himself?) and the unnamed source – who seems to get around all over the place – had this to day:
“Andy just wants to play football and concentrate on his career at club and international level.” “He’s aware of everything in the media. But his outlook has always been to just work hard in training, something he’s done all summer.”
“That reception on Sunday meant a lot to Andy.” “He knows that he’s got the fans by his side and he’d never dream of letting any of them down.”
When Andy was brought on after 86 minutes on Sunday against Manchester City he got a very warm reception from the Liverpool fans, who seem to have taken to the big lad, even though he has struggled for form at the club.
Andy has scored 11 goals in 58 appearances for Liverpool since signing for them on January 31st, 2011 for £35M, and while at Newcastle knocked in 33 goals in 91 appearances.
Andy is getting huge wages at Liverpool, and at least financially he would not be too willing to leave the club, but it seems Andy is only thinking of his football career, and apparently is willing to take a wage cut to move back to Newcastle.
The fact that Andy is being so professional and willing to fight for his place, probably makes it worse for Liverpool, and it seems so obvious that he’s not the type of footballer Brendan Rodgers likes, and he’s simply not going to be used much at the club this season.
And if Brendan Rodgers brings in Clint Dempsey, and that’s now a rumor in the press, that’s two new strikers the former Swansea manger will have brought in over the summer, and he also signed Luis Suarez to a new long term contract to keep him at the club.
It seems to us Andy Carroll is out in the cold on Mersyside, through no fault of his own, other than Liverpool have a new manager with different ideas from the man who signed him – Kenny Dalglish.
It would be good if he can be brought back to Newcastle before Saturday.
