Alan Pardew has named seven changes for Newcastle United’s Europa League fourth qualifying round – second leg tie – against Greek side Atromitos tonight.
Surprisingly the Newcastle manager has started a very strong side, and Tim Krul and captain Fab Coloccini are both in the starting ljne-up.
With the next game not being until Sunday afternoon and Newcastle keen to get two wins under their belt, Pardew lasso starts Danny Simpson and Demba Ba.
Gael Bigirimina, who played so well last week keeps his place in central midfield, and it looks like Dan Gosling will partner the 18 year-old old in the center of the park.
But James Tavernier, who struggled against Amotros goalscorer and top player last week – Denis Epstein – sees himself on the bench, along with other youngsters Haris Vuckic and Adam Campbell.
It looks like Alan Pardew wants to take no chances tonight and wants Newcastle in the pot for tomorrow’s group draw in Monaco.
Newcastle will be wearing their new lime green strips – so let’s hope they dazzle us tonight!

Strong defence especially with Perch and Bigi protecting them BUT is Gosling good enough to be the playmaker in central midfield?
Dissapointed that Obertan is picked. Will probably be proved wrong. The Greeks need to attack because as it stands our away goal wins the tie. Perhaps Pardew thinks Obertan will catch them out on the break. Not convinced though. I had hoped that Amalfitano would start as he is more tricky than Obertan. But perhaps a second half sub. Nice to see Campbell on the bench.

Can you really blame AC? Seriously. The lad wanted to stay at StJP but MA rubbed his hands and sold him for £35m….and a good bit of business for the club. Selling that one player has assisted us in transforming our team.
So AC faced with the prospect of a season on the bench at Liverfool or going to WHU, it’s a simple choice…..surely.
Liverpool were never gonna release AC back to NUFC as that would be like rubbing salt into the wound.

On Topic….Very strong side. The tournament as a whole may not be priority, but Pardew obviously understands the importance of being in it. Chipping in on MA’s investment into rangers shows that he is a very astute businessman. Superb opportunity to achieve big returns for SD with very little outlay. No NUFC Ltd money will have been involved as this is a SD venture.
As for match, super respect being shown for Fletcher, pitch looks perfect and it’s a strong line up with a decent crowd.

Haha just saw the news on Carroll. It’ll be fine boys, the Hammers will get relegated and we’ll get the boy back for about £8mil. As soon as he signed for the Fools I knew he’d be back. Consider it a prolonged loan deal but with £35mil in the coffers. It’s all a deal between Cashley and Carroll.

But im gonna defend my statement about gosling, i think there are a few lads who should be getting the nod ahead of him at this stage, he seems to be lacking any match fitness, im only basing this on seeing him olay pre season and the away leg last week but he seems to need a prolonged run in a team which is why i think a loan would benefit him greatly whilst at the same time not taking game time from abied and amalfitano

Obertan needs to be transformed from a winger in to a centre-forward. I think it would be a good move for him. He’s obviously got skill and he has the pace to break away from defenders, but he isn’t a winger. With Ameobi injured and Campbell unproven, I think we should give him a shot as a deputy striker to come on in the later stages of matches for Ba or Cisse. I think he would suit the striker role quite well – kinda like Agbonlahor – and it would give us a few more options.

Half time analysis
Total controll basically. Fluent passing, good running and good defensive work, from midfield aswell. Every one has played very well but my stand outs are:
Vuckic; been great since he came on. Clever passing, good dribbling and a goal. Looking the player he is talked up to be. Should have put a couple of those chances away though.
Marveaux: another Ben Arfa? He looks amazing. Great dribbling, different to Ben Arfa. He is more classy and direct, Ben Arfa is more stopping starting and quick turns. Good passing and is just roaming about freely, turns up everywhere.
Obertan: I think he edges it on my first half man of the match. Using his speed very well. Their left back has been terrorised. Best game he has probably ever played so far. Amazing delivery, outstanding running and hasn’t really lost the ball at all. He would be a starter if this was the way he played on a consistent bassis.
Very good first half, just need more goals. We need to keep it up

Going back to Gosling. As I said earlier he has not played alot of football end of. Games played improve players. However another point is you can’t get a true assessment of a player by watching on TV. Majority of people watching on TV watch the ball and dont see the work being done off the ball like you can if you are at a game and make a point of watching one player closely. Gosling probably playing to instructions and doing the job AP is asking of him.
As for Obertan, how many times until it’s realised he is simply a confidence player. It’s all psychological with him IMO.
For me this line up confirms we do have depth but a couple more would not go a miss.

I agree with nufcursed – Obertan has had more ball than anyone else on the pitch and has failed to find a man with a cross once as far as I can remember. Really poor.
Regarding the window in general, I’m as disappointed as anyone but think we could be wise to avoid this window where some frankly stupid money has been flying about. Let’s ride it out until the next window with what we have and keep our powder dry.
Should have got Debuchy though – that was inexcusable.

Overall good result and some decision made our way. Krul was dead lucky in the first half. Thought Marv and Obertan were the stars of the evening. We’ll get better and sharper with the season progressing. Fingers crossed we get a few players over the line tomorrow.

First 35 mins, we were dominant; movement was fluid, virtually all 11 players looked handy.

Bad points:
Krul’s handling.
Should have conceded 1 or 2 penalties
Midfield dissolved after 35 mins
never won a thing in their box all night
Ryan Taylor’s injury – he’ll be out for a while
You won’t win many matches packing in with a mere 1 goal lead after 35 mins!

As much as Obertan beat a few turd greeks he just doesnt apply himself enuf for me, esp off the ball.

im not liking the rumours on twitter about tiote moving to arsenal.
i would be devasated if tiote is sold for 15 million
he is worth 25mill+ atleast.
reason why?
there aint many players like him in europe he is the new makalale look at what happend to real madrid and chelsea when they left there clubs for an amount of time.
there so rare we look so much better when he is in our team.
i dont rate gosling etc if we did sell tiote and got m villa in or someone highly rated then ok lets move on but if we sell tiote and not replace him and just let anita replace him i be pissed of real bad.
tiote and krul are our future sell 1 of those players and i will find it hard to enjoy been a newcastle fan again.
ive gone true a lot of highs but mainly lows as a newcastle fan but i dont think its fair on fans when you get attached to players who want to stay and then just sell them on.
we got big stadium we are in the biggest league in the world we get 50 million a season just been in the league yet it seems we got to fund transfers by selling our players something is not right there when tony fernandez who is worth much less than ashley yet shows ambtion even tho mark hughes is brain dead in how to bring quailty players in the squad he just seems to be wasting the money on anyone he can find pathetic
