Haris Vuckic is one of Newcastle’s top youngsters but he was carrying a knock last week and did not travel for the first leg tie against Atromitos in Athens, Greece.
Haris Vuckic in action against ADO Den Haag in pre-season
But it looks like the Slovenian International i now fit and ready to go and we expect him to be in the starting line up tonight, and he could start up front as a second striker, since he has a knack for putting the ball into the back of the net.
Vuckic played well in pre-season, but he seems to pick up a lot of knocks that keeps him out of games, so we hope he can have a spell without any injuries and he could see himself get a chance in the first team in the Premier League too.
Newcastle will still be without the two Ameobi brothers, who are suffering from hamstring problems, and Shane Ferguson and Cheick Tiote are also not available.
Alan talked about Haris today in the local press:
“Haris Vuckic’s over a knock, and he’ll be available, which is useful. He’s shown up really well pre-season.” “It could be a chance for him.” “I haven’t really given too many clues out, because I think it’s important that the team’s right to win.”
“If we don’t go through, it’ll be probably me who has to take the responsibility.” “I have to do what I think’s right for the football club, and my main focus is Aston Villa.” “I want six points before that international break, and I think we can get them.”
“My focus is on that.” “But I need to win this game. We want to continue in this competition.” “Cheick’s still injured. I think he’s doubtful for the weekend.” “Shola’s injured. Sammy and Fergie won’t feature. Everybody else is OK.”
And it looks like Cheick could miss out in the important home game against Aston Villa on Sunday, and we expect Vurnon Anita to again deputize, and get used to the way the game is played in the Premier League.
And we don’t know what’s happened to Mehdi Abeid, who was not involved last week in Athens, so we’ll have to wait and see if he gets a run-out tonight, and if he does play, he could in for Anita, who could be rested for Sunday’s game.

1 Jail for Ashley // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Falling into the chocolate river at his life long ambition of a tour at the Mars factory in Slough and getting mistaken for Augustus Gloop is too good for Ashley.

Its time vukic realised some of his potential. I’d love to see him do well tonight
3 Markaccus // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:42 AM
Ah well, I was hoping to get the first comment to be actually related to the article, but at least yours wasn’t transfer window related, jfa

What time is kickoff anyone?
5 karasu // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:44 AM
I really want to see Abeid get his chance but we have to field a stronger line up and play better tonight. We can’t afford to let our efforts last season go to waste by not getting into Europe.

Abeid posted on twitter last night, and deleted it quickly.
“Football is unfair sometimes.”
So! Either he’s got an injury (but AP mentions Sammy and Fergy, but not Abeid)
Or he’s simply not selected cause he’s either not good enough or AP wants to run with a similar team as last round.
I find it odd tbh, cause he was great in pre-season.
Then again, so was Gosling last year…

“Cheick’s still injured. I think he’s doubtful for the weekend.”
I’m afraid it means, somebody offerd a huge bid for him…

Abeid tweeted somethin strange last night but he deleted… some about fair… I can’t remember.
11 Colo2 // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:49 AM
It’s strange as Abeid played well in all the games I’ve seen him feature. Bigi seems to have come in and taken his place
12 Transfer Sage // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:51 AM
I think abeid is just injured.
He looked very bright in pre season so can’t see him just being dropped.

My first post. In Aus we would freak out if the manager was concentrating on the next match and not the match about to be played. It is an important game for us surely?
14 gaz 44 // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:53 AM
don’t be suprised to see abeid on loan this year
15 Markaccus // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Mark29, how the hell do you automatically arrive at that conclusion!? 1+1=745.
16 GeordieoftheSouth // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:54 AM
This sounds very familiar to last season when Tiote was out injured initially for a week or 2 but ended up being a long time.
I am a big Tiote fan BUT I don’t think anyone would pay big money for him yet as his form has not been consistent enough for a while in my opinion.
17 TorqToon // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:55 AM
I think mehdi abeid is carrying an injury still and his tweet was related to missing the European game tonight. He has had an impressive pre season and will come good. Can’t see him being loaned out at all.
18 gaz 44 // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:56 AM
bigi also had a very impressive pre season.. more so than abeid i.m.o. and it will do abeid the world of good playing week in week out for a team like cardiff
19 Belgian // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Abeid played in the reserves game against gateshead on tuesday.
If he was to play today he wouldnt have featured there.
I think he just aint good enough.
20 Markaccus // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Ok, optomistic mode. Shirt nos 7 and 11 available. Clasically in football used for attack minded midfielders/wingers, or support forwards. Shirt no 12 available, often used for full back cover sometimes cb cover. So we have left room for 2 attacking players and 1 defensive player in our first team squad.
21 TorqToon // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Gaz – With our squad size mate I’m not sure we can let him leave on loan. Maybe somebody like Streete or good, but not abeid.
22 Transfer Sage // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Abeid looked one of the best players we had in pre season.
Hope he makes the step up soon
23 TorqToon // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Also £8mil for Jordan Rhodes??!!
Really??? Same value as Cissé??? I think not…
24 gaz 44 // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:03 AM
torq but the 1 position we have enough is cm.. tiote cabaye gosling Taylor marv guttierez can play there then youngsters bigi vuckic
25 nico // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:03 AM
When did Tiote get injured? Hope he’s not being transfered at this late stage.
26 TorqToon // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:04 AM
Gaz if you ask solano / kyo etc they will tell you that Cabs and Tiote are off tomorrow!!! Lol
27 gaz 44 // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:10 AM
torq .. n nico with the looks. he missed last game
28 yorkshire_magpie // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Gosling was shocking in the first leg. He was playing in such a brilliant postion. Free role just behind cisse but could not make an impact. amalfitano was impressive when he came on.
29 Slank // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Has Abeid been edged out or gone down the pecking order by the arrival of Bigi and Anita?
Pity, but its a nice problem to have so many skilled players in our midfield.
30 Crawfordladd17 // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:16 AM
Roma wanted abeid on loan, I think we should let him on loan, then sent Ranger, Good, Richardson, Dummett, Alnwick to Rangers on loan
31 Markaccus // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Ok now 2 ppl here have said Tiote+injury=sold. Wtf? You could get hurt jumping that high for a conclusion.
32 NUFCWill1986 // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Why is there no detail to Tiote’s injury then? Just ‘injured’ is very vague
33 phoonck // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:52 AM
@NUFCWill1986
i think Tiote injured his groun when he went in for the challenge early in the game against Spurs
34 phoonck // Aug 30, 2012 at 12:10 PM
*groin.. stupid iphone
35 get hatem // Aug 30, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Markaccus;
the number 12 shirt is not being used by players, it has been given to the supporters to use, as we are the 12th man and all that.
36 toonman // Aug 30, 2012 at 12:40 PM
I spoke with Mehdi Abeid for quite a while on friday night in town and he said that Pardew does not like him and he is hoping to get a move before tomorrowas deadline or on Loan if required.
He seemed quite a shy lad and felt quite sorry for him but thats life in the world of football
37 89Norcal // Aug 30, 2012 at 3:19 PM
@toonman, Abeid didn’t mention any loan chances? I support our growing youngsters but hopefully he would be keen to put his head down and work for his spot, he’s only been with the club for just over a year.
38 89Norcal // Aug 30, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Been hugely impressed with Bigi’s skill on the ball and work-rate on defense. I remember he made a lovely run into the box in one of our preseason friendlies and is a decent attacker.
Who knows, he could develop into an Alex Song type player, a great defender with an extra edge in offense.
39 LeedsMag // Aug 30, 2012 at 7:17 PM
Concerned to hear some of the speculation about Abeid. We seem to have a bad track record for getting in young players with potential then keeping them on the sidelines – whats the point? – all you get is disillusioned young players who have the enthusiasm knocked out of them.Especially true of foreign lads who need extra support to adapt to a new country and lifestyle
We need European football and cup runs to develop these kids because its likely that Tiote and Cabaye wont be hear at the start of next season
