Well done Obertan lad, you just need to play that way week in week out

For the first time, I can say Squidward was MOTM.

Good game Oba….please work on your passing and crossing.

Pardew just Said he will speak to the chairman as we might need to bring in some one due to Taylor injury

  • 6 Kyo // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:07 PM

Atromitos were so bad they made Obertan look good.

I counted 4(!) massive let offs which they should’ve scored from.

Obertan very good- hope he pushes on from that.

Slightly scrappy performance but we’re through, so never mind.

    Marveaux and Oba did well…

I heard Pardew post match interview and he mentioned Raylor seems to have picked up a bad know so he will have to speak to the chairman about possibly getting a player in …

  • 9 bazrazmataz // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:07 PM

so pardew will ask chairman to sign a player lolol dont think hes been asking this all along

I think the Ref gets a vote from me. .

  • 11 Novocastrian66 // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Piece of advice for Pardew. Don’t bother.

  • 12 toonking // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:09 PM

MOTM obatan he is still poor with crosses but a forward does not need to do many crosses, just be a threat to goal which is what he showed the signs of today the only thing missing was the goal which was always going to be hard as wingers need good skills like HBA or good range like raylor but obatan shows signs of rooney in a lesser scale.

    @ kyo
    well said!
obertan wasnt as good as lots of people on here claim

  • 14 Magpies-till-d3ath // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:09 PM

    Obertan for a change!

  • 15 MagpiesFlyHigh // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:09 PM

They wuz robbed…penalty and red card….naff finish second half… it was too close.

We played a bit semi detached… did just enough…

    Positives…. Obertan and Marveaux
Negatives… Injury to Raylor, Marvs corners, Bigi’s free kicks

damn you MUTINYbyLEMONS – you beat me to it :)

anyways well done to the lads and signing or no signing, lets support the club we love either way.

one more thing, lets hope Atletico teach Chelsea a lesson tomorrow night !! Come on Falcao !!! :)

  • 17 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:10 PM

I hope Greggs is still open, maybe Pardew can try to get more funds by bribing Mike with a pasty :)

  • 18 Beechycini // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:10 PM

Real hard work tonight that was, disjointed and sloppy. Relieved to sneak through

my mate in the orange call centre has just told me lambias just phoned up to put a block on pardews number calling him herd it here first

Colo is the best player. If no captain we will be dead today.

Bigi is too shy to play, still need much improve.
Gosling look good in midfield role but lack of fitness.
    Ba and Krul not lively.
Simp Obertan and Marveaux are good.
Vuckic scored the winner but can do better

Good experience for them. Hopefully they will learn from it.

Obertan looked threatening against a weak left back. He had him fire pace all day, still cant deliver a final ball though! Marveaux motm for me, picked out perfect passes at times, hopefully going to have an injury free, impact this season.

  • 22 Unbelievable Tekkers // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:13 PM

I dont think he was man of the match and he gave the ball away a couple of times but I really like the look of Bigi. I think he out of all the youngsters will be the one pushing the first team later in the season.

Well done Obertan. I was willing him to play well all game, although I do that every game :-) regardless of what people generally think of him, he does have very good skills and deft touches as well as quite a powerful shot at times.

  • 25 RossNUFC // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Obertan by far, and even he wasn’t great

Decent 1st half with some good displays by Obertan and Marveaux.
2nd half all became a bit lacking and against better opposition we would have been beaten. It looked promising in the early stages but as game went on they were a threat. Have to concede Gosling did himself no favours at all.
If anything it has very clearly demonstrated the need for new senior faces but alas it will all be in vain.
Enjoy the 6 Europa games lads as you won’t be watching Europa games next season and if you all think this window has been bad just wait until next summer. We have a good 1st 11 but will struggle IMO. Another season of frustration awaits but here’s hoping I am wrong.

  • 29 numba9 // Aug 30, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Collo or obertan as m o m marv needs’ to get his head up more and vukic needs to be more reactive to good play, good first half and ba did good job

  • 30 PapissSmurf // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:20 PM

Toon were lucky tonight. Obertan is infuriating to watch, few good touches but then does something stupid. Bring on Europe though!

  • 31 drivershigh // Aug 30, 2012 at 11:32 PM

Difficult call. It seems that most of Newcastle’s A/B team (not quite set in stone first teamers) are frustratingly close to being decent players, but seem to frustrate me in their attempts.
Obertan has pace and did give the back line a torrid time, but as RobsonWonderland pointed out in a previous entry, 0 successful crosses tonight is not good enough. Marveaux showed flashes of skill, but not quite as dazzling as Ben Arfa.
Vuckic looked pretty solid, Bigi impressed when you factor in his age inexperience.
Gosling didn’t impress me, still waiting for him to come good.

This game suggested to me that whilst I’m happy enough with our starting 11 aside from one defender (RB, but that’s another debate), our bench is either a step down or ‘potential’.

With playing in the Europa League midweek, I’m worried that our squad will suffer and the knock on effects will impact our league position a la Stoke’s European hangovers.

I do hope we go far in the Europa League, and of course I’m happy we’re in a European competition. Just concerned we lack the strength and depth to challenge on two fronts.

you guys are easely pleasesd , obertan was no where near our best player,
vuckic marv and colo where head and shoulders above him,

obertan had everything in place for him to have a great game, but once again his final ball is shocking, he makes poor choices nearly every time,
im not saying he had a poor game, he had an ok one, but he is in the team to suply goals, and this he is not good at
