Newcastle have announced the dates of their six group games in the Europa League, and that’s good because it will allow fans who can go and want to support the lads to get their tickets and travel booked.
Alan Pardew – managed only two games in Europe with West Ham
The group is a good one for Newcastle, so we are hoping the lads can progress beyond the group stages this season, and we’ll know that at the latest by December 6th, although the Premier League is the number one priority this season, as Alan Pardew keeps reminding us.
Newcastle will begin their Europa league games at Maritimo on the Island of Madeira on Thursday, 20th September. Madiera play in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, and the finished in 5th place with 50 points last season.
Newcastle then play two games at home against Bordeaux (4th October) and Brugge (25th October), and with 29,242 at last night’s game it looks like the lads will get some good support in Europe – as usual.
And then on 8th November Newcastle will head to Brugge, before taking on Maritimo at St. James’ Park on 22nd November, and then finish off away to Bordeaux on 6th December.
Here are the Newcastle United Europa League fixtures, courtesy of the Newcastle web-site:
All kick-offs listed are Central European Time, which is one hour ahead of local Newcastle time.
Thursday, 20th Sep – CS Maritimo v Newcastle (7pm KO)
Thursday, 4th Oct- Newcastle v FC Girondins de Bordeaux (9.05pm KO)
Thursday, 25th Oct – Newcastle v Club Brugge (9.05pm KO )
Thursday, 8th Nov – Club Brugge v Newcastle (7pm KO )
Thursday, 22nd Nov – Newcastle v CS Maritimo (9.05pm KO)
Thursday, 6th Dec – FC Girondins de Bordeaux v Newcastle (7pm KO)
It;s the first time in six seasons that Newcastle have qualified for Europe so while I’m disappointed we didn’t get in another couple of players over the summer, we still have a good squad, and we could shock people again this season.
But players like Ryan Taylor and James Perch are much better than they were last year, and several of our youngsters have also improved a lot, and the four players we did sign look great buys – so there’s a positive way to look at things.
In retrospect, we should probably have kept Leon Best, and have him as the 4th striker – since he’s still young and done quite well for the Magpies, but it does give Adam Campbell more playing time, and this lad could prove to be a huge surprise on the upside this season.
We hope so – and we still think Newcastle can do very well this season, but we definitely need all 3 points against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Finally, news coming through that Newcastle defender Paul Dummett has joined St Mirren on loan until January, as their manager Danny Lennon has confirmed.
Dummett, who is only 20, was on loan to Blue Square Premier League side Gateshead last season, and he will get valuable playing time north of the border.

It is a compare between the strength in depth. Those I named were who would, I believe, be able to come into our 11 if AP was to suffer with key injuries and are better options than what we have.
Djourou for Williamson
Oxlade Chamberlain for Obertan
Arshavin for Jonas
Ramsey ahead of Gosling
Oh and the last time I looked I still have all my toes.

Comment #47Really pleased with the transfer window. We have kept our half dozen world class players and added another in Anita. Only disappointment was that we did not get a right back. Our squad is a year older and wiser. Youngsters are developing really well. As long as we stay free from serious injury to our top players there is no reason why we cannot challenge for 4th place or above. We just need a bit of luck with injuries. A big thank you to Mr Ashley.

Comment #56I’m not too bothered if why sign anyone else.
It’s always exciting to get a new player because the hope is that that player will improve the team. We have an above average team but nothing much better. Potentially we could be very good with 2-3 more quality additions, I think we can all agree on that?
Sadly, I highly doubt anything will happen today…possibly a new defender at most, probably Debuchy.
The bitter taste in my mouth tonight at 23:01 will be that the SMB’s doon the road will ‘think’ they’re a bigger club than us because they spent more pocket money – and to be honest, it’s in part this that leaves the bitter feeling….
Simply that the Mackem’s have had a more exciting transfer window than us.

Re-read your post from the previous thread, either you are deliberately being disingenuous or you omitted it accidently in the initial post but your post referred to Arsenal players on the bench against Stoke who would be in our starting XI (no mention of injuries to our players)
Djourou is not better than Willo, the lad is dreadful and Arshavin for Jonas? You would honestly replace the hardest working player in the league with the laziest? Better you than me.
I agree with the other two which surely leaves us at a stalemate, which by inference would lead me to believe that at worst, we have as good a squad as Arsenal’s 😀

Comment #62eaststandgeordie1982- I would have liked Obertan to come inside the full back more because he became more predictable. However he did well by getting down the line. Gosling disappointed and was slow and cumbersome at times. Still not sure what his best position is. What’s happened to Abeid? Saw he played for reserves on Tuesday .

We may not be as exciting during deadline day as we used to be but we have the most excitingly talented squad we have had in years, all chomping at the bit to give us fans a season to remember. There are 36 league games left, a League Cup campaign, an FA Cup to challenge for and the first European adventure in 6 long years!
Surely we should be buzzing, let’s chalk this down as perhaps an uninspiring window, doesn’t mean we will have an uninspiring season though! 😀

Comment #69Has anyone had a look at the tranfermarkt website. On their transfer section it shows all the coming and goings for each of the club. It also shows whether each club is in the positive or negative regarding transfer spendings. Only a few clubs in the positive at the moment.
Will be interesting to see what it is like at the end of the transfer window.

Comment #76My revised view on our tranfer policy is as follows:
We draw up a shortlist – 1 player for each position that has been identified for strengthening
We make a bid at the beginning of the window, if that is accepted, great.
If not accepted, thats it – unless the players makes an effort to leave the club himself or the club comes to agreement with original offer, no movement will happen.
It also seems that there are no other choices on the shortlist
Seesm to fit the last few transfer windows

Comment #77the way things are run at newcastle begs the question could it be down to the fact that there is a january transfer window that is the reason we don’t buy players now.
ashley does not know anything about football he is a buissness man what i am thinking is his idea of transfer is during summer we don’t bring anyone in, when i think is his way of running the club isas long as we have 11 players good enough to start we don’t bother bring a player in and so if in january we get injuries then we sign someone.
let do a protest to fifa and demand that the january transfer window does not exist and can only be used for loans while all during the period there is no club football and the season has finish the window opens rather than open in july then we can see true owners with ambition.

Comment #78Right lads I am off for the rest of the evening. Not by choice although it may be a good thing that I am leaving for the sake of my own sanity 😉
For those of you of the positive inclination, try and keep people’s spirits up, remind them that even though we may get no one in we are still in good shape.
Please keep it together fellas, we are Newcastle UNITED. See you all on the other side! 😀

Yeah we will go with that consensus and as for the deemed success or failure of this window only time will tell. As you say plenty games and comps to go so who knows. As it’s said football is a funny old game.
Anyone know if Madrids bid for Debuchy was real and if so have they signed him up?
