Alan Pardew has said at his press conference today, for the important game at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, that he thinks that could be it, and Newcastle have not lost any of their top players, and haven’t brought any new players in since we got Vurnon Anita through the door from Ajax for £6.6M.
Newcastle paid £6.6M for Vurnon Anita from Ajax
There’s always the possibility that something can happen today, and Newcastle are probably now checking around to see if there is a suitable defender they can bring in to fortify the defensive ranks, after Ryan Taylor suffered what looked like a serious knee injury last night.
But it’s very unlikely any new player will now arrive, and if a big club was going to make a move for one of our top players, you would have thought they would have made their move by now – with just under nine hours to go before the window slams shut.
So it seems Newcastle have a net spend of £3M, and here are the major players who have left the club, and come into Newcastle this summer.
Date and UK time | Club | Stadium | Result |
---|---|---|---|
9 July at 12:00pm | Gateshead | Benton training ground | W 5-1 |
15 July at 1:30pm | 1860 Munchen | SaalfeldenArena Bürgerau | |
18 July at 3:00pm | Mainz | Kufstein Arena | |
26 July at 8:00pm | Benfica | Estádio da Luz | |
29 July at 7:45pm | Atalanta | St. James' Park | |
30 July at 3:00pm | Athletic Bilbao | St. James' Park | |
We think the four players who have been brought in – Romain Amalfitano, Gael Bigirimana, Curtis Good, and Vurnon Anita – are all very good value, and will only improve on Tyneside.
How do you think this window has gone this summer?

Comment #8In’s and Out’s are pretty decent looking at the table above. Problem is bolstering the squad with FB cover and a Striker.
Could prove costly, come end of January, we may be really happy. Time will tell.
For now, let’s all shout and scream and stamp our feet.

Comment #10yeah, darrenfletcher what a great window
glad we got that CB we’ve needed for four years
or that striker to replace three outgoing strikers and one who’s always injured (best, lover, ranger, shola), and to potentially replace ba and cisse if senegal beat IC to go to the ACON
glad we got that FB we needed to kick on from simmo
glad we strengthened while every team around us do so, and all pretty well i might add
this window has not been a success. hope the players aren’t too downtrodden because of this and pull together

We would still have to pay him wages, unless Mike convinces him to play for free 🙂

Comment #12@MattyNUFC – We went after players as well publicised (Debuchy, Carroll) and were messed around by their clubs.
What more could we have done? Even the players were frustrated by it!
We all would have been happy with both targets coming in (Debucy to start, Carroll as a bit part) but they didn’t come in as a result of shocking management by their respective clubs.
Look at Carroll now, Rodgerws said a loan was never an option when we proposed it and I bet you we would have paid more than most other clubs to get him back but they’ve let him go to WHAM.
WHAM’s chairman came out and said they can’t afford to buy Carroll, so regardless of how good/bad he plays, he’s in the window next summer for less than the £17m they wanted.
Debuchy was as good as here before the Euros which is why Pards said somethign about it before the break and Lille twice changed thier mind and we even bid more.
You can’t just throw money at it like other clubs have done.
I’d rather we held out for another Cissé then panicked and bought in a donkey mate…

Comment #18also the fact that 3 of the 4 players we have brought in are CM is raising my suspicion more that they are just brought in so we can sell cabaye and tiote as they are the two targeted by other clubs

Comment #20Think we’ll get Debuchy in January after Lille have been dumped out the CL, probably for a bit less than we offered in the summer. Also, we’ll know Oct 14 if Senegal or Ivory Coast are through the ACON finals. Fully expect us to sign a striker also, if Senegal are through. No need to panic 🙂

Comment #23I am a bit disappointed but I don’t think I am anywhere near as disappointed as others. We should have bought a CB and a FB and maybe a striker but we thought this last summer when we pulled out of the Cisse deal and then bought him in January for much cheaper. It might work the same with Debuchy, we might get him or someone else cheaper in January.

I have heard the club are very busy…not 100% sure who but micah richards name has come up (unlikely I know).
Can say we will sign people for sure but there is a lot of work to get a couple bodies in…and not just make up the number players either…good players are targeted who will compete for the first team.
I will pass more on if I hear.

what proof is there clubs messed around with us?
given the lille situation seems to hold some verity because of debuchy’s comments, but none of us really know
judging by our recent history of woefully low offers, i’d say it’s us continually not being serious
LDJ went to monchengladbach for 12mil euros, by the way, not the mooted 20. i’m sure we never went over 8mil for him.
ahh whatever, this is fruitless. argue with optimists or wallow with the realists. either way, won’t change our team or hopes for the current season. i’m off, look forward to a result on sunday. unbeaten last 11 at home, AV haven’t won on the road in ages. bodes well for us

Comment #28Very disappointing window in my opinion but il always continue supporting and believing.
Great to keep are best players but the problem is can we keep them come January or next summer? As the players will thrive to keep on improving from last years 5th posisition but if we don’t I do fear them leaving for pastures new and I can’t blame them to be honest as we haven’t strengthend to improve especially as we have more games this year and a real possibility of doing well.
