There’s never been much doubt of Haris Vuckic’s ability since he arrived at Newcastle in January of 2009 from NK Domžale, but he needs to toughen up a bit, and his positional play also needs to improve, but he showed last night what an exciting player he could become, with a wonderful game winning goal for the Magpies after 21 minutes.
Haris Vuckic after scoring first senior goal for Newcastle last night
We had mentioned in our Match Preview that Vuckic might start up front last night, because of his eye for goal, but he didn’t, and was brought on for the injured Ryan Taylor after 10 minutes, with James Perch moving to left back, and the Slovenian International put Newcastle ahead with a beautiful left footed curling shot that went just inside the far post, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
Alan Pardew admitted his inclusion of some youngsters was a bit of a risk last night:
“We took a bit of a risk with our first selection and we took a bit of a risk tonight.” “But we have managed to just do enough and it gives us a chance for Sunday’s game because if we can get six points and qualify for Europe out of the start we had – Tottenham at home, Chelsea away, two European games and Aston Villa at home – I will be absolutely delighted.”
The 20-year-old Slovenian International had only been on the pitch for 11 minutes after replacing the injured Ryan Taylor, before he scored his goal, which was the difference between the two sides last night.
Alan Pardew talked about Newcastle’s match-winner after the game last night:
“He has got a great technical ability, but there are a lot of things he needs to harness. His defensive play and some of his positional play still needs to be right to play in our first team.”
“But there is no doubting he has got tremendous flair and talent, and hopefully he can grasp all that’s needed to be a top player.” “He’s got a great chance, though. I’m pleased he got the goal.”
“He’s one of our real favourites in the dressing room, with both staff and players.”
This could be the breakthrough season for Vuckic, who turned 20 years old 10 days ago, and he’s been called up for the full Slovenian squad for their two World Cup qualifying games early next month.
That was Vuckic’ first senior goal for Newcastle, and he has now played 13 times for the Newcastle first team.
We expect Haris to be involved on Sunday at home to Aston Villa, and we are hoping we can win the game, and that will give us a great start to the season from a very difficult first five games.

Comment #2Glad he got a goal last night. Looked lively throughout. With some more games and staying clear of injuries he could have a big role to play this season and beyond.
Villa at SJP should be a good game for us, and Pards is spot on. European qualification over 2 legs, six points from Spurs home, Chelsea away and Villa home from our first 3 weeks is bloody excellent and something every toon fan would have been delighted with before kicking the first ball. HWTL!

Comment #4Personally wasnt that struck with Vukic – thought he had some very nice touches, but panicked a bit in front of goal, and got caught in posession a few times.
Nice strike for the goal, but the deflection helped that.
Not knocking the lad as thought he looked very good in some other games.

Comment #6Beattie…If you’re possibly / likely leaving us tonight, do you not fancy joining me and going out with some style? Come on Beetle…for old times sake. Grab your pitchfork now….use it to fight in the same of optimism. You can storm SJP park later with the blood of negativity dripping and then turn it on yourself or Ashley….depending on your mood. Fight until the end brother!

It could well be cover,I believe it to be the policy of most clubs that aren’t bankrupt or in administration to have some sort of back up in place in case a player gets injured.

Comment #12I used to be one of the few on here praising Ashley and the transfer system we employ. I also along with Beattie said we would definitely sign players in this window. I am afraid even with about 12 hours left i am moving over to the dark side as we have no excuse for not improving on Simpson bringing in a CB to push williamson further away and bringing in a st for competition.

Comment #13Well I know a player in the youth system of United who has trained with Newcastle first team several times over the course of last season.
According to him Vuckic and Ben Arfa come across very arrogant and big headed. Between them they are the least favourite players behind the scenes according to him.
Or atleast that was the case last year! and before you ask for sources I wont name my friend as I dont want his name being mentioned and cause him trouble hope you understand.
Simpson is one of the favoured players apparently always pleasant and willing to offer advice especially to young kids (Not sure if this is a good thing especially if the kids our asking advice on defending or crossing lol). Also Tiote is a popular character.
At the same time if you want to believe me or not its your choice! I am not asking you just passing on what Ive been told about the behind the scenes from someone who actually has trained with these players.

Comment #14I was at The Game last Night – Just Next to The Newcastle Dug Out – It was Great To Hear Alan Pardew Giving Out Instructions to The lads . I can See The Youngsters Doing Well under his Guidance… The Injury To Ryan Taylor Looked Pretty bad .. Alan Pardew Was Giving Haris Vucic loads of Abuse for hashing a Few Moves up but on the whole we did well. BUT we do need a few More Players Today !!! Yohan Cabaye Papiss isse and Romain Amalfitano came out and ran up the Line in front of us no way Cabaye is off today !!! Shola Ameobi and David Santon were sat about 5 seats to the left of us after the daft uafa ref turfed them out the dug out with Derek F and a few others !!!!! On the Whole it was a Great Night !!!!! Howay The Lads !!!!!!!!!

I winder what It feels like to live in a world where you have cover for all positions, it must be beautiful.
Ibiza
The only way I’d be joining the optimism express and booking a one way ticket to positivity would be if we were randomly linked with a player. Until then I live in the dark shadows of doom standing on the precapice of the great abyss of sadness. Join my Ibiza, you never know you might like the gloom.

Not saying us being optimistic today will have any relevance to incomings, but I wont end the day clutching my stomach and hugging the loo.
You stray away in the shadows, I was just hoping our last day together could be spent hand in hand, skipping along merrily. Oh well….war it is good sir, war it is 🙂

Comment #21Well its nice to see that some fans are realising that we are being spun along. All it takes is one injury to a squad player for us to realise our predicament. Not sure why we would want Debuchy in for Taylor, but Lille will be laughing at us now, just as they laughed at us when we tried to unsettle their player with a laughable 3m offer. You see chaps, as I have been saying all summer, negotiating isnt always about big balls of steel and stupid offers. Its about being clever and having some respect when needed. Still, as so many of you goons said, no one will take liberties with NUFC the hard negotiators now!! Well thats great isnt it????

Comment #27Pawl – I heard the same thing about Ben Arfa! Very complex character wdnt surprise me if alot that he does and says gets a blind eye because of his talent! With vuckic, I’ve heard some of the passes and goals he scores in training are insane! Technically speaking his technique is up there with the best! Remember a journo compared him to an adult playing with kids in a reserves game he was that far ahead if everyone!

”Beattie…I promise you, I don’t like the gloom. Life is too short and it achieves nothing.”
I know and that is why I must take a backward step from nufc if today doesn’t go the way it should.
I’m fed up with nufc ruining my day and breaking my heart. I’ve invested so much time, money and passion and yet it remains in the hands of 1 man who makes the decisions that have an impact on my happiness.
Life is to short and it shouldn’t be spent in habitual sadness and anger.
Much like you choose to be true to your nature and be optimistic, I unfortunately choose to be the highly emotional being I am and he distraught that Ashley doesn’t match my, your and all our ambitions.
Anyway I still think we could sign someone.
Guidetti for sure!!

Comment #35Beattie….Each to their own and all that. Not sure what not coming on a Newcaslte blog achieves for you, but if it does make you miserable being on here and diving in to other NUFC avenues of entertainment then you’re probably best off taking a break. Hopefully not forever, as whilst sometimes frustrating, you are a wonderful character around here.
I assume you’ll still support the team and watch games etc, but refuse to put money in to the club….that I can respect. But don’t cut your nose off to spite your face….unless it’s an improvement of course 😉
Ochy……I’ll put it this way. I trust their chairman as much as ours.

Ashley turned the offers down because they probably didn’t match his valuation knowing that the clubs may come back today.
It’s nothing to do with football with him it’s business and I for one will never thank the man for not selling our star players.

Comment #37Everyone around us it’s gettin stronger… No ambition… before the summer I had a different opinion but now everything has changed. I’m very positive person but honestly I start to feel desperate. Even Everton make a transfers ffs… Colo will get serious hurt by the end of September and after that will be so much fun. It’s a shame that we miss the oportunity to make a breakthrough in top 4. I don’t know anything about our scout system except Carr… but obviously there’s no one else or they are not even close to his knowledge. On the other hand if we have a half a dozen or a dozen good scouts and even so we don’t make a transfers… we are stupid as fcku. After Cisse’s transfer Pardew said that this transfer show that we have an ambition… well how about we looks now?

Comment #38Everton spending 5m on a left back / left midfielder. I think that signals Baines is moving as him and Pieenar occupy them spots and neither will be moved out of the team. Everton don’t have the money to spend on 5mill players for competition. Baines anyone?

Comment #39I would love Babel on a free as a back up striker. He is also versatile so would work as Midfield cover too!
Defence we really need just one biggish signing your talking between 6 and 10m for any of
Sahko, Debuchy, Mbiwa, Douglas.
Of course those that are versatile like Sahko and Mbiwa should be higher in our priority list.
I would be happy with Babel and a defender (any defender if am honest).
I agree the lack ambition to replace Simpson and make Williamson our back up to our back up! This should have been done.
A striker well I kinda would like to see young Campbell closer to the first team, he will improve quicker. Of course the issue you have is he will be very raw and need time to adapt should players ahead of him get injured. Its important for him to get game time!
