One great thing about the transfer window is that Newcastle didn’t lose one of our top players to a bigger club, and also Demba Ba decided to stay on Tyneside, even though he could have picked up a bigger wage package if he had activated that now famous £7M release clause in his contract.
Alan Pardew – happy yo keep his players
Alan Pardew must have been relieved to have kept all his top players on Tyneside, even though the news this morning is that Ryan Taylor has indeed damaged his ACL in his right knee, and will be out at least six months. Ouch.
This is what Alan said in the local press today:
“I think keeping our best players makes a strong statement, from Mike in particular.” “He’s had a fair bit of criticism here for perhaps not investing in the club or not being fully focused or wanting to sell it and so on.”
“But if that’s the case why didn’t he cash in on one of the big hitters if he didn’t have some ambition to do well for the football club? I think he does, he shares a belief with myself that we’ve got it right here.”
“That the coaching staff are good enough, the manager and all the backroom staff are doing the best jobs they possibly can to get the maximum out of the players.” “That’s all we can do.”
It’s very good that Mike Ashley put £25M on the heads of both Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye, but we’d have been happier if Newcastle had also brought in a center-back and a striker.
But with the Papiss Cisse signing in January, and Danny Guthrie being the only player we lost this summer we would have preferred to keep – and Vurnon Amnita was brought in to replace him – the squad is now probably stronger than it was last year at this time.
And we finished 5th last season, so we have a decent chance to have another excellent season on Tyneside, and do well in the Europa League to boot.
What do you think?

Comment #41Guys you know I support the current regime, however, the failure to address shall we say weak areas of the team has seriously brought my loyalty to the management of the club into question!
My reasons are:
Alan Pardew stated we need 3-4 Quality players to take the club forward! Then 2-3, then 1-2 then 1! Then 100% happy with the squad!
I’m afraid he has lost a bit of respect and credibility in my eyes! IMO
Last season is now the past! History! It matters how we go forward! We have less numbers in the squad now an have failed to replace in the positions we have lost! Noticeably up front! Surely this is as blatant to management as it is to me?
1 player seriously injured and the manager needs to speak to the chairmen to replace? 100% happy with the squad Alan? Oh free sleeping on it yes! ( ooook)
Dress it up how you will but I believe Anita was bought to replace Tiote who they expected to sell this window for approx 20m !! This is just my opinion! No EPL team plays with 2 defensive midfielders! We have 3 who would walk into any team in EPL! Plus 2-3 who can fill in there!
Mike Ashley should be given all the credit for holding onto his stars? They have said all along if an acceptabl offer comes in the player will be sold!!! It is expected that the chairman of a football club should want what is best for the team IF they have ambition, which would be to build on previous semi successful season and NOT dismantle! So no, I disagree that he deserves any credit this window!
These are my opinions! I’m not a negger, it’s simply the way I see things

Comment #42And what if a bid had came for £25milion for Tiote if Cabaye? Good money granted, great even but make no mistake it 100% wouldnt have been spent on new players yesterday
Ashley might be willing to part with £5-6 million in January maybe but that would only be for a player worth at least twice that, a tactic which will BLATANTLY not work anymore seeing as the entire world now knows what were up to. The fact we wouldnt budge on a couple of hundred thousand to get Debuchy in is just pathetic frankly and I doubt Cabaye was too impressed by the none effort to get his best friend here either!
What a fantastic opportunity to aim for the CL missed yet again by Ashley’s miserly attitude. I dont care what all the other fools with short memories think on here. Ashley is and always has been a greedy, gambling arsehole who no interest in ANYTHING other than lining his own pockets. He’s just had q very lucky run at the table so to speak so far. It wont last.

Comment #43just because you buy a player does not mean you will do better !!!! they have invested in players yes but most players take time to gel if they gel at all and toon know the players they have and know the hard work with them is already done!
i would rather keep one of our “star” players than sign a replacement who may not do as good.
amal/anita/good/bigi apart from good they are all first team contenders and great squad players and those out we lost maybe guthrie and best who were ever any good to us.
arsenal and totenham seem weaker this year as garoud and padolski dont seem to be the “great players” that people say they are and tot have lost van-der-vaat who was there best atk mid imo.
the only teams pulling away from us are manc/manu/chelsea but we were never in there leagues anyways with there “we will just buy the best players in the world” routine when they look a little shaky in one of there games.
pards is not stupid he fields a second team to concentrate his main team on the prem as we have seen so i still think we will finish top 6 if not aiming for 4th with luck on injuries and form but if we get into europe again next year we should all be happy.
and stop moaning about transfer windows you forget we are not long out of the championship and look at where we are they must be doing something right !

Comment #45can’t wait for us to keep getting good results then the people who only show up on here during the transfer windows to complain will slowly disappear.

Comment #48Tiote4PM while I agree with the way Ashley handles finance, do you think that if we received £20m for Tiote and he accepted that that whole £20m would go on players in this window? It wouldn’t. Arsenal received big money and spent it back on decent players. Ok MA has left us financially strong but out club is worth a lot more than a summer spend of £3m is it not? We finished 5th where’s that money gone? TV rights where is that money?

Comment #49If we had of sold any do u really think he would invest it to the team ? They just tag u along 4 a couple of windows until u forget about it and use things to distract u like the Gary speed death came at a good time for him as he was shitting on us with rename of s j p we had to pay respects to a real football man !

Comment #50Optimism is the key here! .. Let’s have the young players mixed with the seniors in Europa and the cups ( a max of 4 senior players only during each game). Let’s just hope we don’t get hit by serious injuries! Hwtl

would it matter if not all the money was spent ?
amal was free but if we payed £5mil would that have been a better transfer window ?
bigi £1mil =todays market he could have easily be sold for £5mil would that have made it a better market for us ?
anita £5-6mil a standout performer at the olympics he could have been worth £10mil maybe
if we had waaaay overspent on these players i can see there not being so many complaints so why not try looking at what we have signed and ask yourself what you think they should be worth and not what we got them for just because he spent net of £3mil does not mean we got £3mil’s worth of players

Comment #53All in all we’ve done great under Ashley, he deserves real credit for that. Mistakes will be made of course, have been made in this transfer window, but so far they have essentially learnt from their mistakes. but Numba 9 is correct, the renaming of the ground is genuinely unforgivable and should never ever be forgotten.

It’s all your opinion and your entitled to that. Respected.
A question? Do you think we have the strength in depth to last until January?
Alan Pardew blatantly does not! Otherwise why did we need 3-4 quality players at beginning of window? And none at the end? Did we sprout more quality players? Ps this statement came after the signing of Amal Bigi and good who he said were for development squad!!

What people don’t recognise is that most of our so called young and new players are between the age of 18 to 22. 21 or 22 isn’t young and in some teams are considered seniors. I think this season these players will need to step it up and I’m looking forward to it!

Comment #61croftus5678 – point taken, but by the same rationale if we had spent ten million might we not have then got really great value in the market with one or two more canny buys.

Comment #62Yeah, they’ve done well, but the players will want out in January as we haven’t signed anyone. We’ll finish 10th this season. Sunderland have had a better window. Fletcher and Johnson were good signings.

Comment #63i think ill just have to agree to disagree with quite a few on here. les i respect you as you give your opinions straight and debate well (sometimes a bit aggressively lol).
what i don’t like right now is the stirrers who come on now argue call people names then disappear when results are good only to reappear when we lose 2 in a row or at the next transfer window.

Comment #65An appalling lack of transfer ambition shown by Ashley, and anyone on here who is stupid enough to say otherwise needs to wake up. We now have very few strikers and STILL cant seem to get a centre half or full back. It was embarrassing watching Sky last night and please, for those who say that Spirs had money because of Modric – well we had 35 mill from Carroll. You wont hear Spurs bleating about agents fees ! What you will see though is AMBITION.

you answered the question yourself
bigi amalf ect was brought for development throw gos perch who’s improved abied vukic who’s beggining to be a bit better sammy as well and yes the squad is much stronger than last year and would not insult them by saying they were for the development squad more a brink 1st team squad.
what i do not understand is how imo we have a great 1st team so with people talking about depth do they mean squad players ? in which we have ! or 1st team players ? which will push what we have atm out and upset those we have in our 1st team not getting a regular game !
i would only personally change simpson as a first team position not because he’s not good but because he is only good and my other would be williamson as defensive cover as i personally think he makes too many mistakes and i would push perch and tav ahead of him
perch has been amazing so far and has proved he is a prem cb/lb/rb and dm if we did not have him then we would be a weaker team for sure

Comment #67Kets, all those players u dreamed about – up in smoke!! How come Sunderland can spend money without fear of “doing a Leeds” and we cant , despite that fact that we made so much on Carroll ??? This was a chance to build on what we have – a chance totally lost. For those members of the MA Supporters Club ( accountancy division ) who told people like me to wait till the end of the window – well, I have waited. And you now have your answer. Lots of errors of judgement made by the blind optimists on this site, time to admit as much boys. But most of you arent capable of that.

we got more than a replacement for carrol in ba/cisse/cabaye/marv so you can not cry about past tenth’s wether his money was all spent or not the team has greatly improved because of it.
@65
ambition for what ? we allready have our team in place and players capable of the euro’s ! so maybe the ambition you are talking about is selling there better players to gamble on others ?
spurs are weaker this year than last same imo with arsenal as garoud and padolski dont look that great

Comment #69Delighted about Ba staying. That passed off more in relief than celebration but ‘Yay!’ And he’s looking good although I’m concerned part of the deal is he isn’t keen to play out wide left where he (and Cisse) was so successful last year. That is a worry and I was shocked we played the 2 of them up front at Stamford Bridge.
But given we are in Europe, need a striker for the ANC another CB and a RB – and we have for ages, then yes, it has been disappointing. If we het a bad run of injuries it will look reckless more than disappointing, but Mashley loves to go all-in on a spin of the wheel, so here’s hoping…
