Ben Arfa The Man Of The Moment On Tyneside

It took Hatem Ben Arfa a while, but this year he has shown the fantastic form he was renowned for when he played for French Champions Lyon and Marseilles, and in the first three Premier League games of the season, the 13 times capped French International has been Newcastle’s best player in every game.

The great Ben Arfa in action last Sunday

And he already has two goals this season, a penalty against Tottenham which he earned,  and then whipped the ball away from official penalty taker Demba Ba, and coolly sent Brad Friedel the wrong way.

And then on Sunday he got Newcastle a point, when he launched a missile, this time with his right foot, that rocketed into the back of the net, and showed everybody he’s not a just one footed player.

That goal should be used to show just how fast a ball can fly, when a player with almost perfect technique shoots at goal – it was simply remarkable.

And it seems that Yohan Cabaye, his French team-mate,  is well aware of the magic of Ben Arfa, and he had this to say on the  Newcastle web-site today:

“When the defences are hard, every time he is the best player to make the difference for us.” “Against Aston Villa it was him and even against Tottenham, he won the penalty to win us the game.”  “He is the man of the moment and I’m very happy that we have him in the squad.”

It remains to be seen what the International future holds for Hatem, because he didn’t exactly see eye to eye with Didier Deschamps when he was at Marseilles and Deschamps came in as the manager.

And with Didier now the French National manager, Ben Arfa has not made the last first two squads since the European Championships.

And before we end this article – here’s that goal again from last Sunday – the video’s not too good – but you get the point:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvC6r6np6GI

My goodness it’s still fantastic – I feel a whole lot better now. 😀

First week of school finished and exhausted!

Need to blow off steam… Need an argument.

I think Ashley has done a fantastic job and we should be on for fifth or sixth.

Plus I think colo got beaten for pace loads in our last game and against quick strikers this season I’ll worry about him.

    Any takers?

I also think Hatem’s ready for the free-role number 10 position now, build the team around him and hope he doesn’t get injured.

    Thanks for trying tho Ibiza!

And benny is a real player. Needs to try and bring others in to the game as well. Saw cabaye against villa in ample space on several occasions and benny just ignoring the pass.

Can easily see Benny scoring 15 goals this season if he is given a free role just behind the strikers. This lad just oozes talent and class!

I think sometimes we underestimate the challenge of sustaining injuries like Benny had, and then working hard to come back an even better player.

It just shows the raw determination Hatem has to be amongst Europe’s elite. Another player we can count on. He could even be our main attacker should Cisse and Ba stay longer in the ACON.

Amidst the doom and gloom that surrounds our club with the weight of expectations and lack of transfer activity, quite a few take it for granted how good a player we have in benny..as someone said the most talented player in the premier league and i am proud he plays for us.

Unfortunetly thuggy teams like chelsea, Stoke and Sunderland will realise they can’t stop him so injuring him would be the best thing to do.

I was absolutely raging when De Jong Broke his Leg because I knew we’d lost our most skilled player for a season.

If something similar was to happen again I would be even more P*ssed off.

Was just watching the Republic of Ireland against Kazakhstan, 1-0 down up to the 87th minute, got a penalty to rescue an unlikely point only for Kevin Doyle to step up and nick all 3 points! 😀

Buzzin, Origins of Symmetry is Muse at their most Muse-like, Absolution is fantastic, Black Holes and Revelations holds a personal sway as my favourite, the Resistance has a few cracking tunes and is slightly disappointing as an album and the few songs that I have listened to from The 2nd Law has left me wondering why I have only seen Muse 5 times…must plan the next gig I am going to 😀

Sorry for the digression, back on topic, HBA is one of those players that only come around once in a blue moon, he is certainly something special, let’s hope we get the best out of him and that he repays the club for sticking with him during his darker times here, if that happens then the club can go very far indeed 😀

Anyway here’s my team for Everton
    4-2-3-1/4-5-1

    Krul
    Anita Colo (Perch) Saylor Santon
    Tiote (Bigi) Jonas
    Ben Arfa Cabaye Marveaux
    Ba

I’ve dropped Cisse because he’s been below par this season and it would be very unfair to drop Ba, who although with a lack of service has been trying.

However this is the team pardew will play
    4-4-2 👿

    Krul
Anita —-Colo ( Perch) —-Saylor —-Santon
Ben Arfa —–Cabaye —–Tiote (Bigi)—– Jonas
    Ba—-Cisse

Personally I add Tiote to that list too, I see him as the future captain of the club and he should be kept at all costs too. I agree that GK should always be a position of stability, if you’re chopping and changing keepers it doesn’t let the back 4 bond with the keeper so Krul should never be sold, also he isn’t half bad either 😛

Also, does it really matter how Fifa rate our players? These are just the opinions of people outside the club, surely our opinion of our own players is the only one that counts.

However, it is interesting to note that if those ratings are true, Simpson is rated higher than both Santon and Anita.

    Food for thought…

A year ago I would’ve had him down as well.
However he hasn’t been able to stay fit for a good period of time and is continuing that into this season.

I can’t fault his ability and attitude when playing though, he makes our team so much stronger. We wouldn’t have conceded 5 at Spurs and Fulham had he been playing and not at the ACON

Ah Super Magpie, have a little faith in him, HBA was out injured for a year, doesn’t mean he hasn’t the same ability, Saylor is highly regarded as a player despite having the unenviable title of a walking sick note, and we still think he can do a great job at the club.

I wouldn’t say that Tiote has overly concerning injury problems, he has missed a few games with a calf niggle and will no doubt be back to his supreme best for the club.

I would hate for us to sell him to a “bigger” club, because let’s face it we won’t be selling him to a club on par with us, as only the so called big clubs could afford what we would want for him, and if he ever did move I have no doubt he would be as brilliant for them as he is for us. The simple solution is to just keep him here 😀

The think I like about Benny is the fact that he WANTED to play for us. Remember the photo of him at Newcastle Airport when he went on strike? He was like “Screw you i’m flying straight to Geordie land until its sorted out!”. And what do we get? Fantastic displays. Thats what you get when you sign players who want to play for you. He’s just fantastic. 😀

Ben arfa for us fans is the diamond dogs1 he just lifts the whole gaff, more wonder goals to come from him as well in my opinion, for me he will continue scoring and improving, what a kid to have in your team such a game changer, he loves the toon, he is worth at least half a dozen times what we paid for him,

its funny cos in the past our buys went back over, now we have kis worth 4/5/6 times what we paid for them.

they all seem to improve it virtually a role revesal from the owen boumsong luque marcellino days etc etc

i think its brilliant though, what a frigan scouting system we have!

As a player I regard him as a fantastic player. As I do for Saylor and HBA. HBA’s leg break was a freak injury as was Saylor’s achilles rupture.
Although Saylor had never consistently been able to stay fit before that anyway.

Tiote just seems to get these niggles so often that keep him out longer than expected. Now is it because of the way he plays? Or is he just being bang unlucky all the time?

It really is a shame because when he plays the team looks so much stronger and assured.

Well I think the tackle he put in against Spurs that caused the injury he has now was totally needless, but that’s the way he plays.

I for one would be absolutely gutted if he was ever sold, he is the business. Strap a captains armband round his arm when Colo hangs up the boots and I think you will see a man possessed.

He adores the fans and we adore him. I think he was blown away by the support he got when he suffered the leg break and wants to repay us with everything he’s got.

He wouldn’t have got support like that back in France with his ‘reputation’. Nor would he get that support if he joined any other team in our country now.

How class would it be being hba and walking around Newcastle with everyone worshiping you? Breaking your leg and getting what was apparently thousands of get well soon cards and messages.

Newcastle must be a nice environment for him. It would be a risk moving because he will not be hero worshipped anywhere else. He is just about back in the French fold. For wise he should be there, no doubt. Without him this season I honestly believe we would be in a little trouble now in the league. He has taken the pressure off.

Hope our team don’t rely on him too much!!

I’m actually excited at the prospect of the kids coming through and I am very content at where we are in our 5 year plan, in fact if we look at the body language of say Cabaye and the hunger/desire from Amilfitano i wouldn’t be adverse to us dropping Cabaye and giving a youngster a chance, look at Sterling at Liverfool, he has came in and shaken things up a bit, competition for places and shedding some of the complacency setting in with players ‘dropping their levels’, McClean last year at The Unwashed. Remember Michael Owen debut goal against Wimbledon, who’s to say Campbell isn’t to do the same against someone to fire Cisse back into action, it will be a turbulent season and I for one will be buckling up and enjoying the ride that NUFC take us on (I think you call that unconditional love)
