Tough Choices If Tiote Cannot Make Everton Game

Wit the injuries Newcastle have so far suffered this season in just a short three weeks, we may see some experienced players playing out of position, and it’s either that or bringing in some of the talented youngsters Newcastle have at the club at the moment.

Will Bigirimana keep his place if Tiote not fit?

In fact if Cheick Tite cannot make it at Everton, and with Danny Simpson being out Alan Pardew may have to again call on 18 year-old Gael Bigirimana as the holding midfield player, although the Newcastle manager played Jonas Gutierrez in central midfield a few times last term.

Jonas was asked today what he thought of playing in central midfield, and he had this to say to the local Newcastle press:

“I have never played in the center of midfield before, or maybe I did a long time ago, but not recently.” “It is something all players may have to do this season with the extra games.”

“My attitude is that I try to play at least 7/10. I try to do the job the manager wants me to do. Maybe I won’t be spectacular in that role, but I know that I will do a good job.”

“I try to improve, when I have been given this role I try to watch other players who have played this position.” “It is the most important thing in football – you need to understand where you need to be at certain moments in the game.”

“When I play left-back, central midfield, in the No 10 role, I always try to find the best position to be in.” “The biggest thing is that you need to know exactly where you should be because when you are in your normal position you do it naturally.”

“So I watch the best players in the world who play in central midfield and look to them.” “I watch a lot of left-backs and central midfielders to learn about them.”

It remains to be seen who will play in central midfield at Everton, although we hope Cheick Tiote can make it and that Vurnon Anita will then be able to continue at right back, where he looked impressive in the second half against Aston Villa.

The Newcastle manager could also play James Tavernier at right back, and move Vurnon Anita  back to central midfield, or play Jonas in central midfield.

Or he could move Davide Santon to right-back and bring in Shane Ferguson at left back, and the Northern Ireland International has always looked a good player in the Newcastle first team.

And James Perch could come in at right back with Anita in central midfield, and that’s probably the choice Alan Pardew will make – if Cheick is still not available – or he could even swap those two players and have James in defensive midfield.

But our choice if Cheick isn’t available, would be to continue to play young Gael Bigirimana in defensive midfield, and the 18 year-old did all that was asked of him when he came on in that first half on Sunday.

He deserves to keep his place if Cheick cannot make it, but somehow we don’t think that’s the choice Alan Pardew will make.

What do you think?

agree with pardew about setplays in ed’s previous thread.

cabaye corners couldn’t go past the first man. was rubbish in Spurs and also against Villa. he should just stand far away from taking corners for now. its horrendous. his performance as well as his set piece deliveries.

And this is why this guy should be in the team every time he’s fit. Proper team player.

Wish people would stop whinging about the strength of our squad, it is miles stronger then 18 months ago, Perch wil come in for Collo, and too be fair might be more of a fit for the Everton game anyway, Collo lately has me worried, getting slower and a little desperate at times.

Saylor will be the massive miss, if he is injured shortly then we are struggling, but you know what, it is what it is so get behind the lads.

I just hope we can finally get Ed and everyone else to now stop talking about the transfers that didn’t happen. Team selection dilemmas are a good topic…. But only if we focus on those who can wear black and white.

The set piece article was a great opportunity to produce a well researched article highlighting our failing compared to our competition. Instead it focused on not signing players who “might” have scored a few headers. Rubbish article on a blog on a fast downhill slope.

Post done real discussions and stop dwelling on what might have been.

Nufcusa – surely the point would be for you to post some of your research and some considered opinion then? Try submitting and article to Ed if you think the quality of article is poor. Or maybe get your money back …. Oh …. Wait……

Also on tough schedule for nufc coming up –

    Easy peasy thingy doodaa-ey.

Its a really tiring schedule compared to some sports like cycling, for example that lazy blowk who won the tour de france …oh…wait.

Check….It only took Simmo getting injured, but your approach is extremely refreshing 🙂

Faustino….Spot on. He isn’t visually a spectacular player, but his work rate is the best in the team. He holds the game up well, which people may think is negative, but when the rest of the team aren’t performing, it’s essential imo.

We have an interesting month of football to look forward to, if we come through it in a good position it’ll give the team tremendous belief for the remainder of the season.

I think that the next batch of games, as listed on previous post, should allow us to make a better assessment of our prospects this season. The mix of cup games and PL games will reveal exactly what the mangers thinking is as to team selection. The high number of games in a short period may reveal that the top players have slipped into top gear or on the contrary are not playing well. I,ve just been reading about the Champions League finances when you qualify, I do not understand the way it is worked out, but it is a safe bet that qualification may get a club £30-£40 million. Whilst buying players is always a gamble it seems to me that if we had bid a little bit more for some of the players we were interested in to secure their signatures our prospects of getting some of the CL money would have been enhanced. However, it seems that the way of the club is clearly not to take any chances (financial -by not paying over the odds) and to slowly build quality into the team over a longer period -a strategy that a lot of fans may not have wished for -but we are going to have to wait and allow Ashley to do things his way. I suppose the majority of us would like instant success. If we fall behind in the league too far by the time January arrives -we may not be able to close any gaps to get that coveted fourth spot.

I like it but it seems stupid that santon and anita are on the wrong side. Anita has played left back and is left footed and santon is right footed so why not have them up the line crossing balls in with their favoured foot? and plus i would rotate Ba and Cisse fairly in all competition this season as there is alot of games to get through.

    Wow. Dead blog.

And Gerrard is being ridiculous. There’s no way England can win the world cup, and seein some of the youngsters coming through there is no way England will win anything for the next 4 tournaments or so.

In terms of class and quality, England are so far behind it is embarrassing. Compare us to Germany now. Germany weren’t this good 10 years ago, but they did something about it.

Disclaimer – I am allowed to be negative about England as they are pants. Being negative about nufc is irrational. Things are good.

Dave and Wizard….Firstly, thanks for bringing the blog back to life.

From what I read he said it would be difficult to win it, I just don’t get why comment when we’re not even qualified yet? Mind you, Gerrard thinks Liverpool will do well, so that should put things in to perspective.

As for England being pants, that is an extreme understatement 🙂

Does anyone actually care about the national anymore? It’s really sad when you think about it. Something must be done.

Anyway. Back to reality. There’s never any excitement in England games and more often than not i fall asleep. I mean they should be going out and hammering Moldova 12-0 but they won’t. Of Gerrard reckons we could win the whole thing then go out and make a statement. But they won’t. It will be same as usual only worse now I will have to avert my eyes every time Gary Neville comes on screen.

Why the concern about a couple of injuries? Ferguson, Vuckic, and the 2 Ameobis, are always injured. Perchie will be fit for Everton. As for Simpson and Colo, Pardew said last week that he is 100% satisfied with the squad, so must be happy that he has adequate cover! Mind the interviewer didn’t have the nous to ask, if that is the case Mr. Pardew, why did you chase Debuchy all summer, and why did you say all summer that a centre half was one of your top priorities? Or, why do you contradict yourself every time you open your mouth Mr. Pardew, could id be that everything you say to the press is vetted beforehand?
