Tough Choices If Tiote Cannot Make Everton Game

11:49 am, Friday, September 7th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 155 Comments

Wit the injuries Newcastle have so far suffered this season in just a short three weeks, we may see some experienced players playing out of position, and it’s either that or bringing in some of the talented youngsters Newcastle have at the club at the moment.

Will Bigirimana keep his place if Tiote not fit?

In fact if Cheick Tite cannot make it at Everton, and with Danny Simpson being out Alan Pardew may have to again call on 18 year-old Gael Bigirimana as the holding midfield player, although the Newcastle manager played Jonas Gutierrez in central midfield a few times last term.

Jonas was asked today what he thought of playing in central midfield, and he had this to say to the local Newcastle press:

“I have never played in the center of midfield before, or maybe I did a long time ago, but not recently.” “It is something all players may have to do this season with the extra games.”

“My attitude is that I try to play at least 7/10. I try to do the job the manager wants me to do. Maybe I won’t be spectacular in that role, but I know that I will do a good job.”

“I try to improve, when I have been given this role I try to watch other players who have played this position.” “It is the most important thing in football – you need to understand where you need to be at certain moments in the game.”

“When I play left-back, central midfield, in the No 10 role, I always try to find the best position to be in.” “The biggest thing is that you need to know exactly where you should be because when you are in your normal position you do it naturally.”

“So I watch the best players in the world who play in central midfield and look to them.” “I watch a lot of left-backs and central midfielders to learn about them.”

It remains to be seen who will play in central midfield at Everton, although we hope Cheick Tiote can make it and that Vurnon Anita will then be able to continue at right back, where he looked impressive in the second half against Aston Villa.

The Newcastle manager could also play James Tavernier at right back, and move Vurnon Anita  back to central midfield, or play Jonas in central midfield.

Or he could move Davide Santon to right-back and bring in Shane Ferguson at left back, and the Northern Ireland International has always looked a good player in the Newcastle first team.

And James Perch could come in at right back with Anita in central midfield, and that’s probably the choice Alan Pardew will make – if Cheick is still not available – or he could even swap those two players and have James in defensive midfield.

But our choice if Cheick isn’t available, would be to continue to play young Gael Bigirimana in defensive midfield, and the 18 year-old did all that was asked of him when he came on in that first half on Sunday.

He deserves to keep his place if Cheick cannot make it, but somehow we don’t think that’s the choice Alan Pardew will make.

What do you think?

agree with pardew about setplays in ed’s previous thread.

cabaye corners couldn’t go past the first man. was rubbish in Spurs and also against Villa. he should just stand far away from taking corners for now. its horrendous. his performance as well as his set piece deliveries.

Now that is a professional way of playing out of possition

  • 6 faustino // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:05 PM

And this is why this guy should be in the team every time he’s fit. Proper team player.

Can’t believe Jonas only gives 7/10 on the pitch. :O

Wish people would stop whinging about the strength of our squad, it is miles stronger then 18 months ago, Perch wil come in for Collo, and too be fair might be more of a fit for the Everton game anyway, Collo lately has me worried, getting slower and a little desperate at times.

Saylor will be the massive miss, if he is injured shortly then we are struggling, but you know what, it is what it is so get behind the lads.

  • 9 sticklebricks // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:22 PM

I think Bigi should be playing even if Chieck is fit…

    Ben arfa.cabaye….Ba

  • 11 nufcusa // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:24 PM

I just hope we can finally get Ed and everyone else to now stop talking about the transfers that didn’t happen. Team selection dilemmas are a good topic…. But only if we focus on those who can wear black and white.

The set piece article was a great opportunity to produce a well researched article highlighting our failing compared to our competition. Instead it focused on not signing players who “might” have scored a few headers. Rubbish article on a blog on a fast downhill slope.

Post done real discussions and stop dwelling on what might have been.

  • 12 Tsunki // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:30 PM

Nufcusa – surely the point would be for you to post some of your research and some considered opinion then? Try submitting and article to Ed if you think the quality of article is poor. Or maybe get your money back …. Oh …. Wait……

Also on tough schedule for nufc coming up –

    Easy peasy thingy doodaa-ey.

Its a really tiring schedule compared to some sports like cycling, for example that lazy blowk who won the tour de france …oh…wait.

  • 13 nufcdan26 // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:33 PM

Wonder who the striker is that’s on trial for the reserves tonight? Heskey anyone?! More than likely a young French guy reckon

  • 14 Tsunki // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:34 PM

… Although I do agree that talk of who we might have signed is a waste of blog space and should stop.

  • 15 ThaiMag // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:37 PM

    My team vs Everton

    Ben arfa–Cabaye–Marveaux

Bigi, Obertan, and Cisse to come off the bench in 2nd half

  • 16 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:38 PM

Check….It only took Simmo getting injured, but your approach is extremely refreshing 🙂

Faustino….Spot on. He isn’t visually a spectacular player, but his work rate is the best in the team. He holds the game up well, which people may think is negative, but when the rest of the team aren’t performing, it’s essential imo.

We have an interesting month of football to look forward to, if we come through it in a good position it’ll give the team tremendous belief for the remainder of the season.

  • 17 Mister Tuff // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:39 PM

I think that the next batch of games, as listed on previous post, should allow us to make a better assessment of our prospects this season. The mix of cup games and PL games will reveal exactly what the mangers thinking is as to team selection. The high number of games in a short period may reveal that the top players have slipped into top gear or on the contrary are not playing well. I,ve just been reading about the Champions League finances when you qualify, I do not understand the way it is worked out, but it is a safe bet that qualification may get a club £30-£40 million. Whilst buying players is always a gamble it seems to me that if we had bid a little bit more for some of the players we were interested in to secure their signatures our prospects of getting some of the CL money would have been enhanced. However, it seems that the way of the club is clearly not to take any chances (financial -by not paying over the odds) and to slowly build quality into the team over a longer period -a strategy that a lot of fans may not have wished for -but we are going to have to wait and allow Ashley to do things his way. I suppose the majority of us would like instant success. If we fall behind in the league too far by the time January arrives -we may not be able to close any gaps to get that coveted fourth spot.

  • 19 cockneymagpie90 // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:43 PM

I like it but it seems stupid that santon and anita are on the wrong side. Anita has played left back and is left footed and santon is right footed so why not have them up the line crossing balls in with their favoured foot? and plus i would rotate Ba and Cisse fairly in all competition this season as there is alot of games to get through.

  • 20 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Can someone tell me why Gerrard is already talking about our chances of winning the World Cup?

  • 21 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 12:46 PM

nufcusa…Just seen your comment. Surely you’d be better writing to Ed to voice your opinion? What have you achieved or what were you trying to achieve?

  • 22 dave 1961 // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:14 PM

Gerrard is deluded, he has a greater chance of playing in the championship than the world cup.

  • 23 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:17 PM

    Wow. Dead blog.

And Gerrard is being ridiculous. There’s no way England can win the world cup, and seein some of the youngsters coming through there is no way England will win anything for the next 4 tournaments or so.

In terms of class and quality, England are so far behind it is embarrassing. Compare us to Germany now. Germany weren’t this good 10 years ago, but they did something about it.

Disclaimer – I am allowed to be negative about England as they are pants. Being negative about nufc is irrational. Things are good.

  • 24 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:23 PM

Dave and Wizard….Firstly, thanks for bringing the blog back to life.

From what I read he said it would be difficult to win it, I just don’t get why comment when we’re not even qualified yet? Mind you, Gerrard thinks Liverpool will do well, so that should put things in to perspective.

As for England being pants, that is an extreme understatement 🙂

Does anyone actually care about the national anymore? It’s really sad when you think about it. Something must be done.

  • 25 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:26 PM

Ibiza – I couldnt care any less about England atm. They play boring football and never beat a team convincingly. Even playing Moldova we will probably only win 1 or 2 nil.

  • 26 jonobbad // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:28 PM

“Rubbish article on a blog on a fast downhill slope.” – Perhaps a bit rude and maybe should have been sent to the author of the article rather than trying to ridicule the man for providing a free site for toon fans. • 30 wynsleap // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:43 PM

Whatever happened to that triallist who came in a few weeks ago and scored twice? Never heard of him again.
What have triallists got to do to earn a chance to play for the club?
Incidentally, good comments there from Jonas – an intelligent footballer.

  • 31 Louis583 // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:43 PM

It’s worth pointing out that we haven’t scored from a corner since Ba scored the near post header against Wolves..

  • 32 Conaldo (The Wizard) // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:45 PM

Ibiza – blog police. How do I become one of these. Surely can only make me sound even more powerful. Blog police wizard.

Anyway. Back to reality. There’s never any excitement in England games and more often than not i fall asleep. I mean they should be going out and hammering Moldova 12-0 but they won’t. Of Gerrard reckons we could win the whole thing then go out and make a statement. But they won’t. It will be same as usual only worse now I will have to avert my eyes every time Gary Neville comes on screen.

  • 33 jonobbad // Sep 7, 2012 at 1:46 PM

wheres this ridiculing ed that you talk about?

Jonnobad – you critisised Ibiza for commenting on an opinion, so you then go and comment and critisise his opinion. Yeah that makes sense. Your defending a guy slagging of the blog and the writing of ed, then claiming the other posters are being “blog police” and making stuff up. If you don’t like the blog don’t come on jeez.

  • 39 jimmymagpie // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:02 PM

Why the concern about a couple of injuries? Ferguson, Vuckic, and the 2 Ameobis, are always injured. Perchie will be fit for Everton. As for Simpson and Colo, Pardew said last week that he is 100% satisfied with the squad, so must be happy that he has adequate cover! Mind the interviewer didn’t have the nous to ask, if that is the case Mr. Pardew, why did you chase Debuchy all summer, and why did you say all summer that a centre half was one of your top priorities? Or, why do you contradict yourself every time you open your mouth Mr. Pardew, could id be that everything you say to the press is vetted beforehand?

  • 40 jimmymagpie // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:05 PM

Why are people ganging up on Ibiza today? He’s one of the fairest, most inoffensive blokes on this blog.

  • 41 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Why not just have a squad photo pn the banner and then no-one can complain ?

  • 42 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:08 PM

Wynsleap…..That is rather odd. Seemed to be quite a buzz and then nothing.

Wizard…..I’m not really sure. I think you comment on something then get accused of being the blog police. So I guess people elect you?

Jono….Perhaps ridiculing is the wrong word. He publicy criticised Ed’s blog and said it was on a fast downhill slope. I asked him why he felt the comments section was the best way to address this, rather than an email to Ed. You do know you can ridicule someone with an opinion, right?

Please do enlighten me as to things I’ve made up.

  • 43 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:12 PM

Jimmy….As a member of the blog police I need to accept peoples criticisms of my work!?!?!

Anyway, obviously Pardew isn’t allowed to shout off about the club. I imagine interviewers are vetted also about what they can or cannot ask. When Pardew says he’s happy with the squad, that in no way means he wouldn’t want it to be improved upon.

Looked at the injury list earlier (can’t remember which site) and we have the most injuries in the PL along with Arsenal.

Personally I blame it on the players having to train with Tiote.

  • 44 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:13 PM

    Big Pappa…No-one complain? Howay.

  • 45 Transfer Sage // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:13 PM

I think a lot of interviewers have their question vetted before hand. If hey don’t tow the line they don’t get interviews again.

Only exceptions are sky and bbc as they pay a fair bit in tv rights so can’t be banned from games

  • 46 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:15 PM

I probably askin for too much there like. How about a nude photo of Rihanna or Mike Ashley 🙂

  • 47 jimmymagpie // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:18 PM

Ibiza – yes mate, 9 injuries, same as Arsenal, but as I said, some of them do have treatment room membership, because they’re there that often. Tiote decent chance of being fit for Everton, and Perchie told me himself at the Villa game, that he will be fit. He brought Raylor to the game, and i have to say that the lad was incredibly upbeat, signing autographs and posing for photos in one of the corporate areas.

  • 48 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:19 PM

Big Pappa…..Not that it would make a difference to the answer, but would Mike also be nude?

  • 49 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:20 PM

Tiote and Collo never seem to get serious injurys just little niggles every now and again that keep them out for a few games

  • 50 jimmymagpie // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:20 PM

Transfer – unless you are Sir Alex of course, who got away with not talking to the BBC for years.

  • 51 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:21 PM

You just wonder if we force them back to early and the problem reoccurs

  • 52 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:22 PM

Jimmy….Some of them spend so much time in the injury room, they should consider a change of career. I bet they know more about medics than football 🙂

Raylor seems a decent bloke. It’s a shame his all round game isn’t better, as he’s got a mean talent for free kicks.

When do you get your results back by the way, wasn’t it this week?

  • 53 jimmymagpie // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:23 PM

Big pappa – Tiote misses a few games though, and Colo will never get the kind of impact injuries that say Saylor gets, because he doesn’t put his body on the line in the same way. Tends to take the ‘Dame margot@ approach, turns his back and sticks a leg out!

  • 54 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:23 PM

Big Pappa…Perhaps. You would think they would know when they’re ready. Jimmy should be able to shine some light on this one for us

  • 55 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:24 PM

    @ Ibiza

Maybe one half of the photo of Ashley is being tortured and the other half being worshipped depending on how you feel about him 😉

  • 56 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Good old Stevie Taylor throws himself in front of anything. Really hope he gets somewhere close to a full season this time.

  • 57 jimmymagpie // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:26 PM

Ibiza – I have an appointment with the consultant next Wednesday. I do know that Colo has been playing less than 100% with hamstring ‘strain’ since pre-season, but I have no evidence to suggest that anyone else is playing less than 100%.

  • 58 AmericanGeordie // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:27 PM

Considering the situation I think it is time to move Jonas to left back and Santon to right back. We have better options at wing than fullback.

Further, in our preferred 4-3-3 (or 4-2-3-1), the Jonas/Santon fullback pairing gives us MUCH more going forward than the Santon/Simpson pairing.

Finally, Jonas at FB also allows Anita to focus on becoming comfortable in his preferred holding midfield position. Anita is young and new to the PL, and I don’t think it serves him or the club well by moving him around on the pitch. Jonas, with his experience, is much more suited for that.

  • 59 wynsleap // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Big Pappa @ 51 – isn’t that because we don’t have a big enough squad to cope? It all comes down to the same problem – lack of investment. At the very least we should be well enough covered in every aspect of the squad to absorb a run of injuries but how long have we been waiting now for full back and central defender cover?

  • 60 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:31 PM

Big Pappa….The only thing left to decide then is which side is being tortured and which side being worshiped. Obviously us Ashley lovers need access for brown nosing 🙂

American…..Whilst Jonas can fill in at LB, I don’t really find him too convincing there. Not sure what it is tbh, just looks a little suspect. I didn’t see the villa game, but people have been saying Anita did really well in the FB position. I suppose it’s an issue of whether he’s happy to play there on a regular basis or not. For me, Jonas is far more suited to a holding role these days.

  • 61 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:32 PM

I do think we have cover, just not top 4 cover if you know what O mean

  • 62 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:33 PM

Jimmy…Well let us know how you get on next week then, wish you all the best as always.

Personally, I think it’s foolish to rush Colo back. Far better to make sure he’s good for the season and risk one or two games imo.

  • 63 toonarmydownsouth // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:41 PM

Hows things mate? Hope your appointment goes well!
Whats with all the panic about injurie’s today from people surely if colo is facing a late fitness test they must be fairly confident its not to bad and that must put him in a goid position to be fit for the everton game?

I’d happy if saylor can do half a season let alone u full one!

  • 65 toonLYF // Sep 7, 2012 at 2:44 PM

good post AmericanGeordie, i agree Anita’s development into a PL player will not be helped by changing his role from game to game. I have no doubt that technically he is good enough, but i would prefer him to be played in the CM/CDM role infront of Bigi, and use Jonas as our utility player for the time being.

going on injuries we have currently ahead of the Everton game:

    Ben Arfa———Cisse——–Marveaux

Like the line up there LYF. I haven’t seen Anita at FB, but from what I heard, I would prefer to see him swap with Guti, but that’s me 🙂

Also, so far this season, Ba has impressed me more than Cisse. So unless Pardew is seeing something in training, if we were to go with one up top, I would be inclined to give Ba the first shot at it.

Big Pappa…Do you think so? Never crossed my mind to be honest. Cisse was in such good form last season towards the end you had to play him, even if he had been a free.

Either way, for me, we have loads of games and we should be rotating the two. I would have thought that would be enough games for them, but maybe not?!?!

I was listening to talksport on sunday and liverpool fans were already calling for his head, inexperience was the main complaint that cropped up and complaining they didn’t get someone like Capello in. I do feel sorry for Rodgers slightly by the sound of it the owners are kinda undermining him already. Still i hope he does badly mainly out of shear hate of liverpool 🙂

  • 94 ochytoon // Sep 7, 2012 at 3:37 PM

  • 95 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 3:41 PM

If things aren’t going well for them they could bring back Kenny to save them again.

Capello? Ha. They’ve got to be realistic as fans, they aren’t the same team they used to be and need to restructure badly. The owners seem to be willing to give Brendan some time to do so, but they haven’t really come under pressure yet, so we shall see.

When does everyone think we’ll see the first manager being fired in the PL this season?

  • 103 Tsunki // Sep 7, 2012 at 3:55 PM

Going horribly and wildly on-topic for a moment, I dont see much cause for alarm, fb cover is so versatile. Tiote was missed at Villa and would have quietened their shenanigans down if he had played, but Biggy done well, the lad, he done well, and must improve with the upcoming fixture run. CB cover aint so bad, if you remember we missed both Saylor and Colo for a large chunk of last season, but still ended on a high because we adjusted our midfield to protect them pretty effectively. With Saylor though, we still have a decision-maker to hold that back line on -field, plus we have the personnel (perchy for example) who have learned to plug gaps effectively.

My worry is that Ba is causing us problems positionally all over the last third. Cisse and him tend to cut each other out of games because they are players who want to be in the same areas, Ba may be posted wide but he cant help drifting into his favoured area, so Cisse has to find unfamiliar areas to run in. Ba being out of place has a knock on that virtually wrecks our attacking midfield, and I am going to put this out there that this is one of the main reasons Cabs is out of sorts.

Anyone got any thoughts as to where I am going with this?

  • 104 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Tsunki…I feel we may need to get the pitchforks out and go get Ba. He’s ruining everything!

I really think we should be playing one of them and alternating the starting spot. They don’t seem to play great together and whilst Ba can do a job on the left, it’s not his position. We’re somewhat short on strikers, so share the workload.

    Big Pappa….Certainly worth thinking about.

  • 105 ppb // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:06 PM

@tsunki sell ba he’s ruining our team! lol
good points though. 1 up top is probably the way to go

  • 106 Rake // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:08 PM

I would honestly start Ba over Cisse against Everton. For me Ba has looked sharper. I think we need 5 in the midfield against Everton at the end of last season they had us chasing shadows…

  • 107 dave 1961 // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:10 PM

Ba up front on his own against the Greek’s did not work too well maybe time to try half a game each.

  • 108 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:10 PM

I’ve said this before like but I think it is strange that Pardew has been quoted saying he wants to dominate the midfield yet he always opts to play 2 strikers. Gotta call him out on that tbf

Big Pappa….That is a baffling one. He obviously sees something in 4-4-2, but surely it’s not controlling the midfield?

ppb….Just going to have a cup of tea first, so you might want to put that out for a minute or two.

Dave….Nothing worked too well against the Greeks mind, other than the final result and Obertan. When choosing Ba or Cisse I suppose it comes to down to a judgement based on how they’re performing in training.

  • 115 Tsunki // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:20 PM

Ba has been the sharper of the two but it may be that it has been at Cisse’s expense. I dont think its all down to Cisse being off form. I wonder if we did finally see Santon rb, jonas lb, could we stuff Bigi, Anita, Cabs HBA and Marveaux in the middle with the latter 3 pushed forward, Bigi and Anita covering for our fb’s although I would always prefer them to stay back and not bomb forward too much. If they did they could play the ball out more instead of Timmy’s absolutely woeful punts. Try Ba up in front of that lot and then Cisse, or give them both a rest and wheel out shola for a final 20 minutes.

  • 116 Tsunki // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:21 PM

btw if we just fling a few shurikens at pards he might wake up a bit.

  • 117 Phatoon // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:23 PM

    ———S Taylor—-????

    Ben Arfa—————Gutierrez

    or 4-2-3-1

    ———S Taylor—-????

    Ben Arfa—-Cabaye—–Ba

You wouldn’t be referring to me now would you? Btw it is actually total coincidence that my first post is in and around the time school is getting out, I don’t actually go to school, those of you who care to pay attention I have actually stated my age a few times 😉

Anyway, I see Ibiza has been ruffling feathers for the second day in a row? How things have changed!

For the record Ibiza is only doing this because I told him to do it, he isn’t allowed opinions of his own, thought you all knew this by now?

Right, on topic, I fully expect our midfield destroyer to be fit for the Everton game, so as it stands we will probably be missing Colo and Simmo for that game, surely we can manage without the “dreadful” Simmo for one game, and I think Perch can come in and do a job in there, if they stick Fellaini up the pitch let Saylor deal with him and get Perchy to do a man to man job on Jelavic, job done 😉

Jimmy your constant criticism of Pardew is frightfully boring, we all know your thoughts on the matter why do you rake over them time and time again? Not attacking you just think it’s a tad repetitive.

Oh and Jesper, if you want someone to discuss MUSE with you I would LOVE to! What do you think of Madness?

  • 121 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:35 PM

Tsunki…Sounds good to me….the line up, not the shurikens 🙂

Phatoon….I would swap Ba for Marv in the 4-2-3-1 personally.

    Ruddy…..Awaiting your next instruction.

P.S. Saw Muse a few years ago….immense. Oh wait, that word triggers arguments doesn’t it? They were good, yes yes, good.

  • 122 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:40 PM

No one can use any other word except for immense for that band, and I will duel to the death any man who tries to argue otherwise! haha I have actually seen them 5 times, and I am not a big music buff but there is something about them that I love, heard their new song Madness?

To keep the football buffs at bay I will comment on football too. I agree with you Ibiza that if we are playing 4-2-3-1 then we should be playing our more natural left winger at LW, Ba was accommodated there last season but Marv deserves the chance to try and nail his position. I would rotate Ba and Cisse up top to keep them on their toes.

  • 123 Phatoon // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:47 PM

    @wynsleap #30

    Recent trialists:

Anthony Koura – 19 – (the one who scored twice) is still at Le Mans
Christophe Lowinsky – 20 – (French CB, is currently clubless)

Also that M’Baye Niang we were supposedly going to steal from Arsenal’s grasp ended up at AC Milan for £2.6m

  • 124 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:47 PM

Ruddy…..Get your own opinion ffs! 🙂

I have not heard their new song, but I shall get on it immediately. To be honest, I found the last album a bit underwhelming, which was a shame. They are amazing live though, saw them at Wembley stadium when they did their mini festival thing.

  • 125 VanToonMan // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:52 PM

Guys Everton at home are very solid so we have to have a 3/5man midfield. With that and the injuries in mind….assuming Collo and Tiote are unavailable….I would play this team….:

    ——Ben Arfa———-Cabaye———-Ba——-

Ba is not gonna like it but he just needs to do it for the overall good of the team. I think that midfield will be solid and hold the ball much better. Remember Anita was good at RB but his primary position is CM….so only if we had even more injuries would I put him in FB.

  • 126 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Sep 7, 2012 at 4:52 PM

I never heard them play their last album live, they are a live band if ever there was one, I tried to get tickets for their up coming tour but they’re all sold out 🙁 Madness and Unsustainable from their upcoming album the 2nd Law, I like them but they are another example of Muse experimenting with their sound, love it 😀

Or maybe I’m talking to myself

  • 130 bills-son // Sep 7, 2012 at 5:16 PM

Tsunki @ 115 – I know exactly where you are going.

I’m like a broken record now saying that Ba CANNOT play wide left in a 433 or up front with Cisse. Neither work. We have two potentially devastating creative players in Cabaye and HBA with two great finishers up front in Ba and Cisse. We have to find a system that allows Cabaye and HBA to get into the centre of the field which inevitably means an extra midfield player at the expense of Ba or Cisse.

Whether its my favoured 3511 or another system we won’t get the best out of Cabaye especially until we ditch 442 or even 433.

  • 131 Phatoon // Sep 7, 2012 at 5:20 PM

    No ideas, sorry.

  • 132 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Sep 7, 2012 at 5:22 PM

Sorry Ibiza, was on skype to my ex gf who just moved over to Manchester, and she misses everything Irish haha

It is a strange concept that 2 people can have opinions that share similarities without having one or the other forcing the other to conform….so mad I don’t even wish to consider it 😛

Madness was released like in the last week, not sure when the album is out but I am very much looking forward to it! The man has unreal vocal ability!

Ibiza there is just too much to ponder that I am incapable of pondering it all by myself…”People of Ruddynopolis! This is your mayor! Do my pondering for me!”

  • 133 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 5:27 PM

Bills….It would seem the best way to use the players as our disposal. For now though, I’m willing to trust Pardew to know what’s right (even if it doesn’t really make sense to any of us).

Phatoon….Sorry? Bloody sorry? No worries mate 🙂

Ruddy…You know where you can poke your sorry, that is if you have any room with all your brown nosers lingering. Just listened to unsustainable….good to see they’re not taking drugs anymore 🙂 Looks like the new album is going to be a cracker.

  • 134 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Sep 7, 2012 at 5:35 PM

Muse and dubstep? New hybrid of rockstep has been born! It has well and truly whet my appetite, but their new stuff is getting severely slated as being un-Muse….well considering that they are Muse I think they decide what is un-Muse or not!

Ibiza, razor sharp wit as always though. 😛

I tend to agree that it seems mad with the players at our disposal that we still tend to line up with a flat midfield 4, but like Ibiza has said I am also willing to put my faith in Pardew to get the best from the crop of players that we have.

I would assume that he has tried other formations to at least give us contingency plans and who knows? maybe these other formations aren’t convincing Pardew, or perhaps the players we assume will play well in these formations aren’t convincing Pardew that he should dispense with his tried and tested. All that I can be sure of is that regardless of what we think, it doesn’t make one blind bit of difference as Pardew is in charge and the sooner we all reconcile that fact with ourselves the happier we will be with things 😀

Absolution is a great album, just so happens that Muse were touring Black Holes and Revelations when I first went to see them so I have an emotional attachment to most of those songs, they closed with Knights of Cydonia and it was the most eargasmic thing I have ever heard.

Ibizatoon – maybe my tone was a little brash and a little rude. However, my opinion as a passionate fan exiled abroad is as valid as anyone elses.

Ed does a fine job in providing the blog and a topic forum. However, I am not the first to question the actual content and I won’t be the last.

My point is simply that we shouldn’t dwell on the past and post hypothetical solutions to our issues. We all assume set pieces ate poor so can we have facts. If someone is going to take the time to write a blog piece, then on occasion when a good topic crops up do it a little more thoroughly and stimulate real debate.

Don’t simply announce set pieces ate crap we hit the first man every time and Douglas could have scored 10 headers. He can’t do that if set pieces hit the first man!

My view is that we should be questioning the coaching staff. The same corner routine try’s and fails every time just like Joey Bartons long, straight ball to Williamson failed every time. Our creativity and ingenuity are sadly lacking.

If you disagree with me fine. But why attempt to prevent discussion and opinions from new blog users?

  • 154 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Sep 7, 2012 at 7:33 PM

Please don’t think I was saying you are not entitled to an opinion. In fact, I had no problem with your ideas, just thought, as I said before, the way you did it was perhaps rude.

If you want to debate with people, that’s perfect, it is why we come on here (well mostly anyway 🙂 ). You don’t need to have a pop at Ed though, as it just comes across as nasty imo (which I appreciate will not be agreed with by everyone). If you feel he should have gone further, then email him. Or perhaps a nice note at the bottom suggesting it, not dissing his blog. That is all.

You make some good points on topic and I hope we can engage at some point.

One last thing, when and where have I tired to “prevent discussion and opinions from new blog users?”
