If the Newcastle Board ever had any doubts that the Newcastle squad is just not big enough, then they will have learned a lesson during the International break, with two of our top players returning crocked, and both will miss a number of games.
Tim Krul – out for two or three games
The latest news today on Newcastle’s injuries is not good, with both Coloccini and Krul missing the trip to Everton on Monday, and Tim will likely be out for up to three games with the elbow injury he picked up at the Dutch training camp last Saturday.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is not happy at this course of events and he had this to say today, during his press conference for the Everton game:
“We lost Shane Ferguson, and we have lost Coloccini twice now on international duty and we have lost Tim.” “With the technology we have today we want to know what they are doing because we are handing these players over, to an extent on our pay, so we want to make sure they are looked after.”
And Tim and Fabricio only add to Newcastle’s current injury woes, with Ryan Taylor out for at least six months with an ACL injury, and Danny Simpson out for another couple of weeks at least, with his hamstring injury.
And Cheick Tiote is still not available for the trip to Everton, and he has been out since the first game of the season, when he picked up an injury in the first 10 minutes of the game against Spurs, but tried to play through the injury.
But at least the reliable James Perch, who missed the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa because of a pain in the neck (so to speak), is available for Monday’s game.
Veteran Steve Harper will start in goal on Monday night, and we would expect Vurnon Anita to stay at right-back, with 18 year-old Gael Bigirimana getting a chance to make a name for himself in defensive midfield, since he looked good there against Aston Villa after he came on in the first half, although James Perch can also play in that position, and has more experience than the youngster.
Either Mike Williamson or James Perch will come in for Coloccini, and start alongside Steven Taylor in central defense.
This is not good news for Newcastle on the injury front, and maybe this will force Newcastle to bring in a couple of top new players in January – we certainly hope so.

Comment #1NEWCASTLE UNITED’S opening clash in the Europa League group stage against Maritimo will take place in front of a smaller crowd than first anticipated in what will be a below-capacity Barreiros Stadium following a visit from UEFA chiefs.
The Group D encounter at the Portuguese club’s home – which holds 8,922 – has been subject of an inspection by UEFA recently.
And officials weren’t convinced by certain safety aspects at the tiny ground.
Following their detailed look around the Funchal venue, delegates have ruled that certain sections of the stands will be closed for the visit of the Magpies.
The game has already proved a logistical nightmare for Toon fans to attend on the tiny island, with many flights fully booked coming back to the UK and limited chartered services.
It means that many fans are concentrating on making arrangements for the game with Brugge in Belgium in November.
A UEFA spokesman said today: “The stadium has been approved and the match will take place in Madeira.
“However, due to construction work some sections of the stands will be closed.”
The September 20 clash comes just three days after United’s televised Premier League trip to Everton on Monday evening.
The home club had looked at the possibility of playing the game elsewhere – such as the Estádio da Madeira home of neighbours Nacional – but the stadium doesn’t have enough seats to meet UEFA’s 8,000 requirement.
And Maritimo’s Carlos Pereira said: “We were always confident that we would get approval.
“The work is now completed for the big game.”
should have been moved to Albufeira and it could have been party time i looked into Madeira but could not get a late holiday at least the wife did not work out what i was up to but she did end up with a week away the week of the makem away game, and i get back a few hours before the Bordeaux game, i might get one of the other games away hopefully.

Comment #8Injurys will always happen with players on international duty, they go away and train with different players and coaches and use different training methods as they normally would. I worry without Colo in the team but I’m sure incoming players will not let us down especially Harper. I predict a battling 1-1 draw on Monday.

Comment #12Everton to score at least 3 past us, resulting in a loss. Imagine Fellaini pulling off onto the back post against Anita – child’s play.
Tiote will become ruffled and get sent off too On their small pitch, combined with Everton’s high energy and one of his many flaws being dwelling on the ball, it’s a good bet – vastly overrated that kid.

I’d take a 1-1 draw at Goodison. Everton are never an easy team, but 3 points is not beyond us, even with some key players missing. We still have decent team to field and I will not be going in to the game worried for the worst.

Comment #20Ben3arfa…So if we had signed a CB you think Pardew would have been happy to see Colo injured or it would be deemed okay by anyone?

Well in that case, Jonas will take up that mantle. Either way, we’re 95% sure of a defeat. If you have a Paypal I’d be willing to wager a wedge, amount chosen by you, with a 500 quid limit.

Comment #23I don’t know why everyone is panicing! FFS
we’ve got pretty much the same squad that finished 5th last season there’s no reason why we can’t do it again. Sure we’ve got a few more matches in the uefa cup but we are giving youth a chance. Good youth at that.
You could sign any cb in the world but for me Captin Colo is irreplaceable any team would suffer without his absence.

I actually think we could give them a good go, Jelavic isn’t a big man so Perch could step in and do a man to man job on him and have “hand on” Willo mark big Fellaini at set pieces and for that diagonal ball in.
Harps can do a job and the back 4 may have a sharper mentality due to Tim’s absence so we may see a surprise result (surprising for those who think we’ll get hammered)

It’s called being realistic, Belly, you juvenile. You should try it. If we are beat I won’t be too disappointed, as I’m expecting it. I’m also expecting AP to be chopped by the end of the season.

Comment #32Just want to point out, we shouldn’t be referring to this fool as ruddy. This is fake ruddy, or as Jesper and I prefer Jiz Ruddy.
Thought you were so disillusioned with NUFC that you had to leave? Life turned out to be more pathetic than you imagined? This has gone beyond a joke, does it really entertain you? If you’re so angry with the state of the club at least vent your frustrations with your own identity. It’s not like anyone thinks Ruddy the eternal optimist would say this rubbish.
Sorry everyone, I know we’re not supposed to feed the troll, but he looked starving.

I actually don’t think we are going to get beat. I certainly don’t think we are going to get hammered. I especially would never bet against the Toon and as one of AP’s biggest fans ever I would never ever contemplate the silver fox being sacked.

Comment #37Ok let me start a new topic for discussion – isn’t it amazing how almost all of the signings in recent years have been from above average to amazing. And the players sold have been all generally less than average.
I remember a time when it was the other way round. And you just prayed the next signing would be ok or not injury crocked! I am so happy to be a nufc supporter right now and I get excited about players we are linked with because I have more confidence that they will turn out really well. Recent arrivals cementing that even more.
And I look at other clubs and laugh. e.g. Joey Barton haha

Ruddy….It’s a simplified method, but cuts out the b*ll*cks 🙂 Glad you liked Hinterland, their other albums are pretty decent too, but that’s probably the best.
Shanghai….It is a refreshing change, isn’t it? They may not be well known all the time, but I am genuinely excited by the players we do bring in.
