It seems that the animosity what Lille is still going on with Lille boss criticizing Newcastle today – presumably for not paying the price Lille wanted for their French International right back.
Mathieu Debuchy – still wants to join Newcastle
And with Mathieu still having dreams of joining Newcastle in January maybe the deal is not completely off, but we have to think that Mathieu has let it be known to the powers that be at his club, that he is still more than anxious to join Newcastle.
This is what Lille manager Rudi Garcia said today about Mathieu:
“If Newcastle had done what they should have, then Mathieu would have gone. He is now looking forward and that is the most important thing.” “How do I find his behavior? Perfectly normal, that is the right term. He longs to play again after his injury.”
It’s hard to know what the truth was with the potential Debuchy deal, because the local papers were saying that Newcastle though they had a deal with Lille on the transfer amount, only for Lille to pull away from the verbal agreement later.
It depends how Newcastle do this season through January that will; decide whether Newcastle go back in for the french international, but at 27, Mathieu is right on the age limit of players Newcastle like to bring into the club.
We’ll just have to wait and see, but we think Debuchy would still be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle – even if we have to go up to £7M to get him.
What do you think?

Comment #1I just want Pardew to try dropping one of them for 1 game at the least just to see how we do. After the European championships allot of teams are flooding the midfield trying to emmulate Spain or Barcelona. I have always said that I have no problem in us playing 4-4-2 so long as the other tean is aswell. When other teams play 5 in the middle it effectively takes Ba & Cisse out of the game as they don’t get enough service IMO.
Its not as if they dont get chances. I reckon Cisse could have had 3 goals this season. Went close against Spurs, missed a sitter of a header at Chelsea and should have scored against Villa. Ba should definitely scored against Chelsea to add to his one against Tottenham, so who knows maybe we just arent getting the breaks we did last season in front of goal ?

Comment #2Lets see where we are in January, but lets no kid ourselves; Mike is not going to pay £7M for a 27 year old fullback and nor should he. 🙂
Let Lille sweat on it 🙂 they’ll get less in january and they know it hence the reason why they keep on about it instead of moving on as we have 😉

Comment #3So frustrating like. Ashley chose to gamble by trying to save a couple million quid and keep Simmo, now Raylor is out long term and Simpson is probably a few weeks away. Debuchy wanted to come and play for us whereas Simmo would have left in a heartbeat if someone offered him a better contract. Not to mention Debuchy is a French international attacking fullback that can do things with a ball Simpson could only dream off. I really hope we can snap him up in January

Comment #4It looks like Debuchy again from now until January, give it a rest. Ive just returned from U18s Sunderland 4 Toon 2. The boys were totally outclassed by a superior side, Sunderland were much better individually, not one of our team would get in the Mackems side, even their subs were more skillful.

Comment #5In the near future Ashley will be taking large pats of his interest free loans back form the club, but Ashly haters will be disappointed if they think that it signals the near end of his ownership of the club, sadly for some its just a signal of profitability and the need to reduce corporation tax. at the moment theirs no body with the funds to depose Ashley, Ashley gets so much out of the club in business promotion, i am quite confident he will make a go of the top 4, maybe not out of love for the club but solely for business reasons, sports direct are moving into Europe, as there only real area of expansion & to get the best exposure he needs the club to do better than it is now. if i had of had these prospects when i was in my early 20’s i would have been well happy. i don’t think Pardew will be manager when we make the next step but i cant for the life of me think who would take the job on other than a has been after his last payday. one annoyance at the moment with the academy Ashley seems to know the importance of getting it right but seems to have totally failed it we heard how the £35m was to be re invested but it seems to be a bit puzzling where it went other than financing some of the massive errors made at the club our current youth set up is a joke underfunded and to high a turnover is staff, our academy seem to be a pit stop for out of work coaches, and as we pay so badly they just use us as a stepping stone until a better job becomes available. i suppose only to be expected when the clubs owned by a pile em high sell em cheap owner and a managing director that thinks hes a bigger gangster than Nile ranger.

Comment #6Yeah, that deal should have been done and dusted from a fans perspective. From Mikes, well, he got Cabaye for 4 and Debuchy is perhaps not as good, nor as influential, but he is what we need, a top right back.
I’m not sure we’ll pay 7, if he goes at that price it’s likely to be elsewhere.

Comment #7Lets see how we are doing come January, we may find we don’t need him.
Don’t forget Ashley and Pardew are looking long-term and want some of our youth’s to break through.
I know Ashley will not buy at Lille’s price and will only trade if it is lowered.

Comment #8People talking about his age being a barrier to us signing him will have to explain it to me. He will be the same age in January as he would have been had we signed him in the summer and yet it seems evident we made serious offers for him then. It may well be that he is cheaper in January but he won’t be any different in age.

Comment #9What a joke. I thought Real Madrid had come in and had a bid accepted?!?! Or was that just a load of tripe from Lille to try and get us to stump up the cash. If he was that good there would have been other teams after him so I think this one will be let go.

Comment #10It should be obvious to any discerning fan what took place.
First we unsettled Debuchy, followed that wirh a lowball bid and gave the impression we had offered a fair amount and went back in with a supposedly increased bid.
At best we offered less than was fair for a full French international FB and complained that Lille kept moving the goal post.
Apparently following a season where we signed some decent French players with low bids (Marveaux, HBA and Cabaye) Ashley thinks he can walk on water.
Unfortunately both the Frebch and Dutch sides we attempted to do business with laughed at him and more or less told him the facts of life.
Certainly as far as dealing in the football market is concerned.
Yeah ! he screwed up again, gambled and lost.
But does he care, why should he, hopefully we will retain PL membership but quicky get dumped out of the european competition and finish nowhere near last season.
As for silverware, are you joking !

Comment #12Very naughty Ed fancy getting everyone wound up about transfers again lol.
Supporting Newcastle is a challenge and a cross all true Geordies must bear.
Stop dreaming about silverware going to the match with your mates and taking the piss out of the SMB is what the journey is about.

Comment #13I thought we’d had a bid accepted and Lille changed their mind. I don’t blame the Toon for this at all. If we’d bid £7m, they might well have asked for £8m. Let it go, Ed.

Comment #14Well ! This is an ongonig Saga which has been going on for months!
It is also not clear what has been happening between the two clubs !
I would sit and wait this one out, let the dust settle, and try and get him on a Free when his contract with Lille is finnished !
Its is rich , though, that their this Lille Boss is trying to blame us for a Transfer that was wanted by the player and Veto-ed by the French themselves. Not sure if there were any Agents involved trying to screw NUFC too!
However, the Bullshit stories about our squad continue to make this Blog!
The latest is that Barca want Krul ? if they are willing to pay 50Mil then maybe!
But i would not sell him for more than that ! Ashley and Llambs Ass would i think!
