Great game. Bit of a roller coaster ride but we finished on the up. Sometimes need a bit of luck to get things going again

For me any formation will do as long a Ben Arfa plays in the hole. Give the lad a free role.

Great tempo. Considering the players missing we did well. Not so good first half but so many players in midfield missing – marveux was shite, cabaye and Anita did nothing. But much improvement when marveux came off.

A bit of confidence will work wonders for the lads. Not many teams will get a point at Everton. Good result.

Forgetting about the first half was plenty to enjoy from the match. Ba was a game changer, Cabs looks like Cabs again Jonas, Taylor, Willo, Perch (in CDM not RB), Shola all looked good and Harper reminded us all he can still play…and a true pro t’boot

Marv, HBA and Cisse need to show more over 90 minutes though imo

Having said that Everton were very hard done by should of won it but luck really wasn’t on there side h

Thought we missed Colo and Tiote today.

Anita going back to right back also made a big difference.

I still think he needs to get tuned in to the EPL.

As for Hatem, can’t believe he did not dink it over baldy’s heed

For me the first half highlighted that Marv can’t defend to save his life. That won’t do him any favours in the future because the way we shape up the wingers are box to box and double up with our fullbacks.

Ah, Ed’s rampant. I’ll repost once more and then I’m off.

    MFH

There’s always a reason players don’t play to their ability (badly). When it’s the entire team collectively in whole halves, it suggests there’s a fundamental issue – namely tempo and aggression in our case – we’re often caught cold in first halves. I’m not confusing anything.

    Long live King Shola!

In the first half it was as we were a man down because they always had a free man to pass it to. Puzzling.

in the end like it is just amatter of opinion only idiots like kets talk nonsense and well we won’t know how much a differance he might be, so yeh we stick with who we have. At the end of the day i now believe it is only poor forward play which has made us look poor because we have always went a goal down in our games in the league this season before show any real threat.

9 – it does not help that Perch was behind him, Perch does not look comfortable at RB.

Not only were we lucky for the 2 goals, there CF coming off helped even though their sub was a handful at times.

Pretty shite all in all but when you get a draw like that it often acts as a turning point

Anita going back to RB made the defence a bit better, but were still lucky not going down with 4-2.
Next time Anita RB, Perch CDM. Ba is in better form then Cissé, he must start before him, at least now.

After that second half we could only improve and we did. Our midfield was tiny and ineffective, we do need tiote back. Anita was more comfortable at lb, they killed us there in the first half, though kudos to perch for playing well in the second half, he aint a right back. M.o.m well check the vote its right on

    14 – I agree.

I think we are still suffering from hoof ball. When we do try to pass it out we get pressured and lose the ball then revert to hoof ball again.

We have the players, I think we need to keep the ball better.

G nev warned that bains was on form and he must have though all of his Xmas’s had come at once lining up against Marv.

That totally changed 2nd half as Anita and Guti had him sussed!

What a second half for the non-partisan football fan! Yes, they were unlucky but we had enough chances and a blatant referee error (theirs were not blatant) to win it

Signs in 2nd half that some of last season’s ‘joi de vivre ‘ was returning…..thank God for Ba and good old Shola….a marked difference with their introduction.
I think it was a huge error not to deal with the threat of Baines in 1st half….surely Jonas would have been better support for rookie right back, Anita ??? Instead Marveaux was run ragged and they had carte blanche to attack in first 45mins.
If ESPN news proves correct and Obertan refused to come off bench, then I hope he gets nowhere near the first team again. If he really is vain enough to think he is worthy of a starting place then I am flabbergasted!
Players in form and with proven ability should be incorporated into our starting eleven…it’s not as if we are laiden with quality in depth. Imo all this endless talk of formations is hogwash!
Marveaux – as yet – has done little to warrant a starting berth, so for me let’s get back to HBA, Ba and Cisse as a front 3…it provided a lot of points last year….and at least 2 of those players are bang in form! And Walker’s bestest is back to fitness for the not so distant derby!Hurrah!

cyprus i have to agree with you about the referee becuase although they should of had a goal when they didn’t get it the referee was stupid with not sending the everton player off because why else would he stop us from playing on when he could see we had a chance on goal.

Yeh ok we werent great in the 1st half but lets not forget that this is a quality everton we were playing & lets get our feet on the ground here we dont have a right to win or be amazing every game!!! Then theres the second half…..alot go on about tactics on here, well theres the change in tactics which apparantly we struggle to do & would you believe it we changed to a 442, lets here the moans about 442 now! Its easy to sit at home & be a manager, & everyone is entitled to there opinion & have a little grumble but some on here just make themselves look like right t1ts!!!!! No offence KETSBAIA9

Perch did a lot better once moved to CM position…didnt have the pace to close down baines, but it’s always a tough task.

anita did really well. quiet game, but shut down the baines threat. very simpson-like. definitely our best rb.

i think this made the difference between the first and second half. well done to pards for identifying this.

    We learnt a lot tonight
    1. Ba is on fire, cisse is not
    2. Anita is a better rb than perch
    3. Pardew has better second half because he sees the problems and fixes them
    4. We can play long ball when necessary
    5. It’s unusual but tight we had the luck!

    Ruddy

Exactly my point. We can’t string two good halves together. It’s a team game, so there is a collective performance, not just the sum of individual performances.

Being caught cold was a problem last season too…e.g. Spuds away… Fulham away…so it isn’t simply being overcautious. I’d say a sports psychologist would have quite a lot to say about our lack of consistency.

It really isn’t as simple as Pardew being conservative or holding the players back.

    Our best team is

    ————— Krul —————
    Anita – STaylor – Colo – Santon
    Jonas – Tiote — Cabaye – Arfa
    ———- Ba —– Cisse ———-

I would put Jonas on the wing that has the most attacking opposition winger/fullback to provide cover that Arfa will not do, or if he does he will not do it well.

Tiote/Cabaye have back ups in Bigi, Gosling and Perch.

Simpson can be a back up to both full backs as Anita can move to LB for Santon if needs be.

Obertan / Mareveaux will cover Arfa for an attacking winger.

Ryan Taylor, Amalfitano will cover Jonas and his more defensive wing role.

Amalfitnao will provide back up for all back ups along with Vuckic, Abeid, etc.

We have a strong first team, as injuries occur we lose strength but as you seen today Ba was unhappy being on the bench so we cannot expect someone to sign for us to sit on a bench if he possesses quality to challenge or even walk into the first team therefore leaving our current first team player unhappy.

I can accept our team, I feel we lack centre back cover with only Williamson, unless you use likes of Perch in my opinion in his weaker position as he suits the CDM role more.

5 points against Spurs (h) Chelsea (a) Villa (h) Everton (a) is an excellent start. I predicted only 3 at the start of the season expecting to only win Villa. And we qualified for the EL which is an added bonus!

Have faith! And stop asking for lone strikers it was proven tonight it DOES NOT WORK!! Neville even showed you why if you need explanation!

Solano – ESPN rumours are about as reliable and Caughtoffside.com and the daily fail !! Relax lad!

On tonight, gotta say fair play to Sir alan Pardew. Saw what was wrong in the first half and made the correct changes! Anita looked very accomplished at RB (albeit a few hoofed balls – but that will all come), cabs looked more like the player we know and love and Ba (after being dropped!) looked like a man on a mission. If its cisse’s turn to take a bench spot next time maybe it will have the same effect. Although I thought the front 3 worked well together again. HBA had a quiet game for his standards and perchinho at CDM looked very good and more comfortable than at RB.

All in all, and I said this this morning, I’m happy with a point. Everton have a very good side (their best in a long time!) and not many clubs will take points off them at Goodson….especially after going behind!

Well done lads!! I’m sure many neggers will be out tonight moaning about Cissé and calling for him to be sold in January, but being a school night…hopefully they won’t be out long!!! TOON TOON !

The publicity the disallowed goal is getting is absolutely ridiculous. If they showed the “foul” that led to the free kick that made the goal you actually see that santon does nothing wrong. And what on earth does the ref think he’s doing when he doesn’t give advantage when Ben Arfa is through on goal…

I take your point about ESPN but the only caveat I can add is that I don’t rate Obertan anyway and his non-introduction may well have contributed to our point!
As for your reference to the “neggers” may I point out that I do indeed do some work in schools, so have to get to bed early 😉
