Pardew Dismisses Rumor Obertan Refused To Play – Video

Alan Pardew was asked a number of questions immediately after the game on Monday evening, and one of them was a question on whether Gabby Obertan had refused to come on as a substitute towards the end of the game.

Alan Pardew – immediately after the game on Monday night

And Alan mentioned that he was always only going to play one striker at Everton and because Papiss Cisse had scored for Senegal during the long International break he preferred Cisse, and he was also sure that Demba Ba was upset he did not play in that game against the Ivory Coast too.

But Alan was also pleased that Demba Ba was annoyed and came back like he did last night in that second half, and he wished everybody would take benching like that,  and come back with good energy and show the manager what they can do.

Alan also quashed the rumor that was put out on the TV near the end of the game when Bigirimana came on, that Gabriel Obertan had refused to come on as a sub – Alan said that just wasn’t true.

Here’s the interview.

In the end it was an excellent display by Newcastle in that second half, and it will give our lads the confidence to get wins at Maritimo and at home to Norwich City on Thursday night and Sunday afternoon respectively.

The long ball tactic definitely has its merit in any approach to football and Newcastle have benefited immensely from the tactic over the years. Shearer, Ferguson, Sir Les, Carroll, Shola even Bellamy with his pace have all thrived on the long early ball with thrilling effect. This is a side that wants to keep it on the carpet and knock it around at pace but who also use the option of the long ball and that’s exactly how I like to see them play.

I hope that Marveaux doesn’t pay for his poor performance. He is primarily an attacking player forced very much on the back foot by 3 excellent players combining to immense effect. If it was an opportunity at all it was one to fail. Not to be judged in any way by that performance.

AP looks lkike he is under enormous stress in this interview. Seems like a guy who is going to have to deal with a bad situation of his making right after the press leaves. Hope he gets things patched up.

Yeah , he does appear washed out and it does make you think that maybe there is some truth to the Ba even Obertan rumors and that AP has caused some discontent with word or action. Ba should have been on from the start even if it was out wide and Obertan might think he’s earned a spot in the pecking order ahead of Marveaux and Pards might have forced his authority indelicately. Just a thought that’s probably miles off and more likely a passing moment but he does look exhausted in the interview.

    Morning lads 🙂

How was the reserve game yesterday? I keep hearing that even at that level we keep playing the youngsters out of position 🙁

Shame though, but I hope it was a great game 🙂 do we have any stand out players at the moment?

The big stand out for me regards the reserves is that Gosling started and also wasnt captain, think he has had his last chance for the 1st team, he simply hasnt took his chance, and he has been given many, hope Bigi and Amalfitano look impressive on thursday.

    Team

    Harper
    Tav Perch Willo Jonas
    Obertan Bigi Amalfitano Marveaux
    Vuckic
    Cisse/Shola

Check…I thought Gosling had a great pre-season both last year and this year so I still hope he’ll come good.

There seems to be a confidence inssue there; the same as with Obertan last season. Gosling haven’t had near as much games.

Maybe it is also a case of Pardew not knowing where Gosling’s best position is or maybe he is best in a Nolan position?

But we don’t play like that anymore.

Gosling looks good in pre-season as most other players arent up to speed and the pace of the games are much slower, as soon as he is in a real game he looks one paced and predictable.

Always seems to be chasing the game, has not shown any attributes of any note.

With Obertan you can clearly see the lad has ability, just lacks confidence and a bit of a footballing brain, may still come good, he is super quick which cannot be understated.

Sammy was a cut above the rest of the reserves last night and Inman was very eye catching the rest were decent but not knocking on for PL game time atleast not on that performance

Yo…is Sameobi ready for the first team you think or should he be loaned out (like Cleverly and Wilshere) so he can challenge for a starter next saeson?

Loan out Abeid and Inman I say 🙂

I still have faith in Gosling. Far worse players at NUFC has been shown the olive branch in the past 😉

…some have repaid the chance; I hope Gosling will too.

This whole situation needs nipping in the bud. Damba has been as miserable as sin for months. His attitude has been stinking. I also saw him at a thing for kids where the club had arranged for him to attend, and he was awful. He needs to give his head a shake. There is no one player bigger than the club, and Pardew needs to get this sorted out. That was the first league game since the beginning of last season where Demba has been left out. Who the f*** does his agent think he is? No recognition for Demba? PArds praised him to the hilt every time he played out wide.

If we are gonna play 4-4-2 and play the odd long ball, then they are all in danger of losing their place to Shola, who is the best we have in the air and at holding the ball up. Wouldn’t e surprised if Pards lays the law down over the next few days. Carver won’t hold back either.

Jesper sammi is first team quality no need for a loan, If abeid n Inman get season long loan they will b first team next year without a doubt, jak Alnwick future Nufc no1 keeper

Thought yven moyo looked bright when he came on he could also b first team with a loan this season

Feel for AP, tough decisions ahead. Ba is a player who could’ve walked out on us dirt cheap (which would’ve meant high salary) and he didn’t. I was amongst the 4-5-1 ‘coaches’ but that proved wrong, although Marv made that a 4-4-1 in honesty. Somehow, AP must find a way to play his best 11 and Ba is certainly in that category. One half at CF for each sounds fair… shame that CFs are measured through goals because, given the acrimony, how can a partnership between the two flourish?

I think he could challenge but if he isn’t getting games by Jan loan him out. Very skilled when he has the ball under control and Sunderland had 3 players on him everytime he got the ball but his first touch is pretty poor tends to take 2 or 3 goes before he settles the ball when under pressure, he was out main outlet though

Agree on Inman and Abeid but then that’ll leave the u21 squad with bare bones so not sure we will let both go

As for Gosling he was solid handy in a tackle and passing was good but not great however he didn’t stand out in a team where he should of so I doubt he will play Thursday I reckon Romain will get his chance then tbh

Jesper- Good morning . The reserves were poor for second game running. Campbell looked as if he didn’t ‘t want to get injured with another game in prospect on Thursday. 2-2 but mackems were better side. Alnwick played well he looks promising. Abeid needs a run of games on loan. Gosling played in another different position but looks fitter than I have previously seen him. Needed to lose some weight.

Final thoughts on Goodison . If an official gets something wrong it’s plain wrong. If then officials get something wrong 6 seconds later in a manner that favours the initially wronged team this does not equal right. Wasn’t ‘t Saylor slow in reacting to Anichebe (2nd goal) on what seemed to be a fairly straightforward turn and shot.

What puzzles me with the Ba situation is why he didn’t leave in the summer after Pards played him out wide, which clearly he wasn’t happy with. I actually said on here a while back that I hoped Pards hadn’t dug a hole for himself by promising Ba he would play through the middle if he stayed.

Like other fans have noticed, Ba has been moody for a while and his body language has been a give away. Having said that if we play one up front Ba has far more to offer than Cisse. Ba not only scored in his early run last season but led the line and linked play really well, something that Cisse still has to show.

    Davybtoon,
WW…,said last night that AC isn’t ready for the PL would you agree,I havent been to a reserve game so can’t really comment, but attitude aside I don’t think our keeping Ranger in the first team done him any good at all, purely because we had no other options up front I hope the same doesn’t happen to Cambell because Mashley won’t spend.

Jail Campbell only 17 but he’s gonna b some player probably not pl level yet but the one thing he’s got now is he’s lightening quick which scares defenders n I wouldn’t mind him having 20mins if we were 3-4 up in a game

Morning gents! Demba Ba needs to finally take some control of his representation! His ‘agents’ seem to be money orientated solely, with little concern to the player himself.

As has been said before, we have shown that NO player is bigger than the club. If those truly ARE the thoughts of Ba then he will either need to grow up and earn a starting position (which he has done!) or find himself a club that will guarantee him a start every week! (good luck with that!!) I’m 98% certain that these ARENT the true feelings of big Demba, and if that’s the case, it’s time to take initiative and get rid of the vermin that are trying to cash in on the lad!
