First teamers who did not make the trip today to Maritimo today included the two Senegal strikers Ba and Cisse, and French Internationals Yohan Cabaye and Ben Arfa, but everybody else from the first team squad seemed to be on the plane today.

Hatem Ben Arfa is suspended from European competition for this match, so it wasn’t a surprise that he wasn’t on the plane, and it seems that Vurnon Anita, Gael Bigirimana and/or Dan Gosling will make up the central midfield.
And Alan Pardew made no bones about it this afternoon, and said he thought it would be tough test for his young Newcastle side, in our first group game in Europe for six years.
This is what Alan said:
“Maritimo will give us a test, you can be sure of that, but whatever team we put out I want a win.’ However keen he is to take three points though, Pardew does not hide the fact the Europa League is not his top priority.”
“I make no bones about it, the Premier League comes first and then it’s the FA Cup before the Europa League and the League Cup.’ “I may not have been in the Champions League yet but I have played or managed in just about every round of the FA Cup and was minutes from winning it as both a player with Crystal Palace and then as manager at West Ham.”
“It would be fantastic if Newcastle could enjoy a run to the final, although we try to win every trophy available.’ “Having started my career in non-league football I know just how important the grassroots level of the game is.
“These sorts of clubs are a great asset for the local community, as much as they are for the players.’
This is the squad that made the trip today in alphabetic order:
Mehdi Abeid, Romain Amalfitano, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi, Vurnon Anita, Gael Bigirimana, Adam Campbell, Rob Elliot, Shane Ferguson, Dan Gosling, Steve Harper, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, James Perch, Davide Santon, James Tavernier, Steven Taylor, Haris Vuckic, Mike Williamson
We expect the team to be somthing like this tomorrow afternoon, when the game kicks off at 6:00pm local Newcastle time:
Perch Williamson Taylor(S) Ferguson
Obertan Bigirimana Anita Amalfitano
Ameobi (Sh) Vuckic
There could be some changes to that team with Tavernier and Sammy Ameobi possibly in the starting line-up.
And with Adam Campbell making the trip, we could even see him come on in the second half, and the local youngster has been in cracking form for the Newcastle U21 side this season.
Newcastle will be going all out for the win tomorrow night, but we suppose a draw would also be a decent result.
